Sony Xperia backup and reset question.. - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I'm having a problem with this feature. Basically there is the option to automatically restore app data when resinstalling an app. Does this actually work? I tested it by deleting an app and reinstalling it and it hadn't restored the app data. Am I doing something wrong? I want to restore factory settings but not until I'm 100% sure my apps Data is backed up and can be restored.
I have searched but not found the answer I'm looking for.
Thanks!

Hi dan.langridge88,
App data restore will take place if you created backup connected to its online service (google account).
Once you reinstall the app, you can go to "restore data" and select your online backup.
Select only "Applications" and this will restore its app data.
After restore process has been completed, you can re-open the app and its data should be restored.

Gmail from latest froyo update apk? Or, how to make a titanium backup work?

Could someone upload a copy of the new gmail apk? See, I did a titanium backup of everything I had from the first leaked froyo rom and restored it after installing the latest, but after rebooting gmail just force-closes all the time. Anyone have a solution that doesn't involve clearing out everything?
Scratch that, fixed it by clearing out the data from the app in the "manage applications" setting...
That's how you do it. I found out the hard way, by doing it all over. Then the second time around I went that same approach and cleared the data. A gmail is restored.
When you restore from Titanium Backup? Do you have to hit Install and done on some of the Apps? What a pain...Is there a setting I am missing that will install everything? Without having to go through process, after I hit Run Restore All Apps + Data.

If you donate, it will restore in batch mode.

Thanks for this!

[Q] Google backup or titanium?

so i have titanium backup..
anyway..just flashed my first rom....and when i booted the first time. i set up my google account. Before i could even get to titanium my phone was downloading all my apps and contacts from google.
Any opinions on googles ability to restore stuff? Im contemplating wiping again and disabling auto restore before i set up google. Is it worth it?

Google backup works just fine for downloaded apps and contacts, so why bother?
Well for me this didn't work. I did some wipes now but the Google backup functionality never worked for me. Therefore I always use TB.
well this is the first time ive flashed a custom rom. Was running stock for the first few weeks of root.
The first time i flashed and set up my phone google didnt do anything
Was having some probs so i decided to wipe and reflash...the second time google went crazy and started dowloading everything from the market.
I always use Ti Backup. In my experience, Google backup doesn't always backup and/or restore all my data and I end up uninstalling and re-installing through TB anyways.
If you choose to go the TB route, remember to force a re-do of all your backups (or at least of user apps) before wiping data and flashing a new rom. That way you'll ensure having the most current data from your apps when you re-install.
Also if you want to only restore from titanium, just skip the google sign in setup, and uncheck the restore from google setting. Go to the market and download titanium restore all the apps and data, wifi and bluetooth settings only. Restoring system data from an old rom or stock rom to a new one may bork your system.

Yes but make sure your phone wont autosync. When you skip the setup that should also skip the autosync as well. Just in case go to settings, accounts and sync and make sure autosync is unchecked. Sign into the market and get titanium backup. If you have a rom like coredroid, it may already be included. Check your particular rom for details.
Well I used titanium after I reflashed. I restored all user apps. System data is where I'm confused cuz there is so much data. I'm thinking contact sms Bluetooth settings wifi settings and sense desktop are what you would want to backup. Most of these were in green type.
However..... After restoring I still noticed multiple copies of friendstream and a lot of weather apps which all seem to be the same thing. I dlfeel like I got a bunch of dupes

Carbon Backup; What am I doing wrong?

Hi guys,
I've been trying out the new backup app called carbon. I've been fiddling and backing up my data, but I cannot seem to find the setting to have it backup the data and the apk.
Upon restoring through carbon it makes me manually download every apk from the play store.
Anyone know how to backup both the app data and the apk?

On the backup screen, you can swipe the blue bar up and it brings up additional options. You can uncheck "App Data Only" and it will backup apk along with app data. You can also "select all" and "deselect all" here.

Question How am I supposed to restore a backup from my p2xl to my new pup using the backup on Google drive?

The title says it all. I've got this backup on the Google drive cloud from my old phone. There are no options to restore from it. Is the only time to restore from the old phone's backup at setup?!
I was wondering that too and I just assumed you could do so during setup by selecting the "cable doesn't fit" option or saying you didn't have access to your old phone. Not sure about after setup tho..

I can't believe there's no other way to utilize our backups except during the time of setup ridiculous. Does anyone know if there's a way to get the backups on our new device after setup or how to force the setup menu?
It's not too tough, using ADB, or it doesn't appear tough (I haven't actually tried this, but retrieving and using the correct token-values seems pretty straightforward): https://developer.android.com/guide/topics/data/testingbackup
There do appear to have been some "launch apps" that were able to trigger this through a (hidden) system-app-launch, but I see zero mention in more recent (i.e. > A9) times...
My personal peeve is the fact that Google makes it incredibly difficult to access (can't even see these anymore on my Drive account), and create some sort of restore-point backup, of a device. You can use this same adb technique above, but what if you just want to "fiddle with some sketchy apps", or similar, and have a couple of bailout backups, it's sure not easy, by any stretch...
Just use Swiftbackup with Google drive. It backs up and restores all your apps, data, phone logs and messages

I just moved my swift backup from my PC to my p7p. I'm ready to restore. Google seems to have done a good job restoring my apps through its backup. It didn't seem to restore any of the data though. How should I do the restore with swift? Do I just restore the data for system and user apps? Do I slrwatore the APKs too? Given that most of not all the apps have been restored by Google what happens if I restore the APKs with swift too? Will the apps be duplicated?

I use Swiftbackup to restore apps with its data which works 90+ percent of the time. I think you can restore the apps again via Swiftbackup.

I think Swiftbackup will just overwrite the apps that you restored from Google. I can't see any problem.

When I last used Swift to restore from backup all my apps were glitchy. I had started to clear data from them all to get them to work correctly, but ended up doing a factory reset. Restored from Google and everything was fine
