Display continuously turning on and off (blinking) at low battery level - Honor 6X Questions & Answers

Hello all!
I am experiencing an issue which I find a bit strange. As the topic says, my display (screen) continuously turns on and off when the phone battery level is low (typically below 5 % left). The screen turns off after "timeout" but after app. 5 seconds or so it turns on again, and after app. 5 seconds it turns off again. And so it goes on. I have tried to search different forums, including XDA, for anything similar but I haven't been able to find anything.
Does anyone know if this is normal behaviour - maybe some sort of reminder to tharge the phone? Anyone experiencing the same? It is a bit strange, I think. At low battery level I would not want the phone to turn the display on and off like that
I am thankful for any thoughts on the issue
All the best

Never had this on h6x. May be some setting... Worst case, try factory reset and observe the behavior.

Thank you for your reply.
I have sent the question to vMall Germany, where I bought the phone. Hopefully I will get an answer from their support.

Well, good luck mate. Hope your issue gets resolved or addressed properly.

I got the following answer from the German Honor support:
The behavior of the LED display described by you is normal; it is a low battery warning. (translated via Google translate from German to English)
So in case anybody experiences the same and finds it odd, it is all normal.
sten_amund

OK - so I got new info from HiHonor Support, Germany. Turned out they gave me the wrong information earlier as they were referring to the LED status light and not the display.
Here is what they wrote:
It is of course not normal if your screen is flashing when the battery is low. Please contact our workshop ECC, the colleagues there can discuss with you the further procedure.
So that means I have to go through a repair procedure. Hopefully it will go without problems

Screen going black

I've tried various different ROM images (including the excellent Dr.Gonzo), and I have this problem with all of them.
When I'm using the phone either with the keyboard in or out, the screen just switches off randomly. If I wait a few seconds (possibly the backlight timer length), then it comes back. Mostly... Othertimes I have to wait a lot longer, but it does always come back.
A reboot sometimes fixes it, but not always - does anything survive a reboot or battery removal?
Anybody else seen anything like this? I have seen a lot of threads about the screen staying on, but not off.
Of course, it could be a hardware fault, but because it's intermittent, it's hard to prove.
Mike
same problem
If you shake the phone can you re-produce this problem? I've never not heard of this being affected by software - you might also want to ensure you're not overclocking it.
Nothing is removed when you do a battery removal or reboot, ensure your connections are all tight and make sure the SIM pins are all making contact and the SIM door closes, apart from that it sounds like a possible bad LCD ribbon.
Shaking it doesn't reproduce the problem.
Once the phone has started doing this, it happens everytime you press a key.
Seems more like a memory leak to me since it always seems to happen after a while of web browsing/email use.
So actually, it looks like it might be a hardware fault.
I think it happens when the device gets warm. After a few minutes with the screen on, keyboard lit up, wifi on, the phone gets pretty warm and that's when the screen seems to go black. Leave to cool and all returns to normal.
Mike
Same issue here, but the screen does not acually go black/blank it just seems that the screen backlight does not turn back on from a standby like state, the phone itself functions but just not able to see whats going on on the screen.
(keyboard lights work fine and come on when expected)
Not sure about the heat theory as it happens (to me) most often right after a call, anything over 30-50 seconds and the backlight problem occurs, when it decides to work again is a matter of luck.
As said before because it's intermittent, it's very hard to prove.
Has anyone who has had this issue, fixed it with a hard reset ?
Very strange ... but also getting very annoying now!
i got the same thing. took it back to warranty and they said nothing's wrong with the phone but i still get this.
I experience the same problems.. it happens pretty random, but every time when you hit a key. I have set all timers to never but the problem is still there.
Running Gonzo 1.1 at the moment, upgraded from guava.. but that didn't solve the problem.
It is getting so annoying now that I am about to throw the s710 in the dustbin
I have had the same problem!
I have turn it back to my provider and no problem now.
i have the same problem with my VOX
apparently, i can still receive phone calls, and do whatever i want with the phone,
but the screen just stays black, its like if you have unplugged your monitor
since i dont have a htc center in my town or anywhere else nearby.
does anyone know a way on how to open the phone, change what need to be changed and correct the problem? im all up for testing if that would resolve this annoying problem :s
cheers everyone
there is a dismantling manual somewhere in this forum. search.
i don't think taking it apart would help you because this is not a physical fault that you can locate.
and i learned that mcel is the retail seller of vox in mozambique. they should be able to help you with service. else just send a mail to htc support and they will guide you.
yes, mcel are the retail sellers, but i tried to go there, and there are no specialists on htc's there,
the thing is, i didnt bought my htc from them, so i can't go there and change for another one
but tks anyway
no problem
but do try to contact htc support by email. they might suggest a way.
I'm having exactly the same weird problem and I think I found some pattern when it occurs. Well, the thing is that in the bright day or in a room with lots of light it works just fine. In the darker conditions… well… not so fine. It seems to me that this screen blackout happens whenever the keyboard light is on and screen changes to full brightness (in the dark, because of the light sensor). In the daylight, keyboard light doesn't turn itself on, so s710 works. I don't know much but this definitely isn't some bad contact problem. Maybe some battery problem, but I doubt it since I can receive phone call in this condition. This started to happen after I flashed this Windows Mobile 6.1 ROM from HTC (I have original S710). Flashing Dr.Gonzo's later on didn't bring any luck either. I believe that some power control SW is the main culprit. I've read that many people mention some Tornado Power Control app. Does anybody know can this application be permanently disabled or removed?
are you trying to say that by desabling the light sensor, the problem might go away?
i would also like to know if it possible to have the baklight on the lowest possible brightness forever, because it seems, on a low brightness the problem might go away

I also have this problem with the lightsensor turned off. And also at (as it seems) random moments.
well, even with the light sensor turned off, the problem persisted.
i got my phone to a repair shop of htc's, and they figured out the problem
my phone is now 100% thankfully, the repair man told that the problem was because of bad or malfunctioned circuits, he exchanged them with new ones, and the problem went away,
dont know wich circuits exactly, and he didnt want to tell me, but i suggest anyone having the same problem to try and do the same
probably its a hardware malfunction with these VOX,
its possible since so many times before i've heard about malfunctioned pieces coming out in large quantities for sale.
anyways, cheers everyone, and good luck Portugal in EURO!
I have the same problem. I just noticed that it usually happens when the phone is warm, so if you need to do something on my phone just... take some ice from fridge and put it on back of your mobile. I cant see any more solutions.
Please someone help us!
Update. Problem Solved
Just thought I'd update this thread I started.
I sent the phone back to my dealer (Grapevine in Poole,UK).
A week later, I got a brand new one back from the HTC repair centre.
So far, so good. Looks like the problem's solved.

Sam problem here,
i called with HTC and they sent them to there repair centre.

[Q] Asus TF Screen illumination problem

Hi there!
The problem i'm having, for which i have found no solution yet and no help or similar cases around several forums or google is the following:
I've had my Asus Transformer for several months (since august) and it has worked perfectly until this Monday. after playing a while with it, i left it in normal sleep pressing the power button and when i woke it up to keep on playing the screen would not turn on. The problem was the screen illumination. If i used a lantern tu illuminate i could barely see the unlock button. after i rebooted, and reinstalled several times revolver rom I managed to get it fixed.
I then found out then that this screen issue only happens whenever I try to modify the brightness of my tablet, specially if an application is running in that specific moment.
I've tried restoring nandroid, flashing from cwm, flashing on apx mode from pc, restoring stock rom, prime rom, and revolver rom with absolutely no success. I'm am unable to modify the screen's brightness with out getting the problem of the illumination, and i dont carry a lantern with me to use my tablet whenever this happens.
Did anyone have this same problem? maybe something similar? Does anyone know which can be the cause of this problem? Any idea how to solve it?
P.D.: I installed revolver rom a week or two before this started happening.
If you've tried countless software things and that has not resolved the issue, then it leads me to think the backlight may be dead or finicky. It seems like an issue to RMA for. Try giving it a few firm taps to see if it may be a loose connection (not hard enough to actually damage).

I've also thought that the hardware might go wrong, but in that case:
-how can just playing a game have caused that?
-how can it be that the trigger that leads to the screen failure is modifying the screen's brightness?
Also, I forgot mentioning, i found out that messing about a bit with the brightness config. while the screen is off or crashed or whatever, and then pressing the power button twice, one for sleep and one to turn it on will fix the screen again.
referring to the RMA: I live in spain, but the tablet was bought in US. Is Asus waranty world wide? or should i have to send it myself to US?

Since the brightness control is interacting with the hardware backlight, at a certain level of brightness, it may be defective. I've had LED lights burn out but still work at a lower level, and sometimes a temperature change brings them back for a short period of time.

This ones out my scope of knowledge, I'm sure another member on here knows the answer to this one.
In the end after testing, my asus tf looses the screen brightness over a point, may be 50 or 60 percent. can someone tell me for sure this is a hardware issue? in case it is, should it be difficult to mend? im struggling to find the waranty ticket

MK808 Keeps switching off - Please help?

Thanks for looking, I have searched but can't find the answer.
I've just received an MK808b in the post today and it runs ok, but when I run XBMC, or Chrome, or sometimes just randomly it switches off. No warning, just blue screen and I have to unplug, then replug and it starts again.
Any ideas what is happening here and how to fix it?
I've been reading about installing Finless, which I may attempt later, but awaiting a reply from the seller before I do anything, not sure it's a faulty unit or there is something software related causing the problem.
I'd be most grateful for any help here, thanks.

It possible a bad flash/bad app, try a factory reset, if issue not resolved, just reflash the rom.
This sounds like your power supply is too weak, this is a very common problem with these sticks. If possible try another power supply, maybe from a tablet. It has to deliver at least 2 amperes.
PS: I would not suggest flashing a finless rom because they are very outdated. It is also very important that you DO NOT FLASH ANYTHING until you are 100% sure which hardware version you have (there are about 10-15 different ones that are all sold as MK808B).

[Q] Battery gets hot, screen flickers and dies?

Hi,
I have a Galaxy Note Pro 12.2 and the battery gets really hot and then the screen starts flickering and eventually goes out. I was wondering if anyone else has had or heard of this issue?
Thank you, Snow
While doing what sort of activity at what brightness level? There is s flickering issue that isn't necessarily related to heat which is why I'm asking. .
Sent from my SM-P900 using Tapatalk
These things are rated save to use up to 80ºC, so unless it reaches near-melting temperatures, something else is probably wrong.
There are a couple of threads on screen flickering issues. Primarily concentrated issue on the WiFi and AT&T models.
It has also become a bit of a trend for people to say 'It gets really scalding hot', whilst it turns out to only be around 40ºC. That is not hot. That's normal for a device with a powerhouse CPU and no fans.
Use CPU-Z to get the actual battery temp. 25-45C is perfectly normal, 50-60C in heavy usage is also normal (Games, for instance).
This primarily happens when playing games or watching video's on it. It seems like the processor/battery gets hot and then all of a sudden the screen starts going crazy.
Enable developer options and disable hardware overlays within there. It has been said that this should fix the flickering in video playback.
Be aware that when you reboot the tablet you will have to disable hardware overlays again.
If you're rooted and have TWRP, clearing cache and dalvic will resolve the flickering for a period of time (days) without having to dive into developer options.

Hi IbrahimGla,
Once the hardware overlay issue was mentioned, I looked for instructions on how to turn hardware overlays off on the Galaxy tab (Which where hard to find). Here are the instructions and so far, it looks like it is working for me:
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
To fix flickering in video:
Enable developer options in settings (go to about device and tap Build Number 7+ times).
In developer options, under hardware-accelerated rendering, check "turn off hardware overlays". You can also check "force GPU rendering", but I've found the former is all that's necessary.

Thanks for your reply , i did what u have mentioned in the begening of my problem and no thing has changed , now after a month from the first time where my screen starts flickring the device is not turning on it is like a device with no battery it just show me the battery charging when it's off.
do you advise me to buy a new battery and replace my note pro battery??
Thank you & sorry for my bad english
I am having a similar problem with my Note Pro. It ussualy starts when the battery is down to 60%. The screen starts flickering and then I get a message saying the SD card is corrupt or not formatted. Sometimes it locks up as well. Sometimes when I plug the charger in to tells me "charging is suspended due to high battery temp.". The device is warm but not extreamly hot. If I turn the device off and let it charge, once the battery charge comes up to 70% I can turn it back on and everything works fine. As long as I keep it charged to over 60 - 70% I never have a problem. I tried several different SD cards but that doesn't seem to be the problem.
I have contacted Samsung but the only response I have gotten from them is "have you done a factory reset?".
Not sure what to try next. Anyone have any suggestions?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I467 using Tapatalk
Sorry I missed this, I am not on here very often, I am back because the Note 7 is coming out. I have never replaced the battery on mine, so I am not sure. Apparently replacing the battery has worked for some people. I ended up sending the Note Pro to Samsung 2 times under warranty and the problem was not fixed.
Finally I called their support back a 3rd time near the end of the warranty period and said: Listen, I have send this *** to your repair department 2 times already. I want one that actually works sent back to me. They sent me a Note Pro in an un-marked (maybe a re-furb box?) with some sort of bar code sticker on the back of it.
Since then, this different Note Pro has worked for the most part, but every so often it has minor issues with it getting hot and the battery loosing charge, but it is not as bad as the one I bought. I really think Samsung dropped the ball on that tablet and they are lucky I just got a Tab E.
Definitely not my experience with the Note Pro. Mine has been rock solid for 2 years now, I still rack up a minimum of 2 hours of screen on time per day 7 days a week, and quite often more than that.
Just an FYI that there has been threads posted about screen flickering and battery issues that document issues with the battery connection and how to resolve them (involves opening the back and resoldering the battery terminal). Definitely something that you'd think Samsung would do but doesn't always do it . .
My tablet had the same screen flickering and getting hot problem. I solved the issue by soldering the battery connector in the motherboard. If you look at post #10 of this thread you will see a very good photo posted by Beut of the tiny black connector that seems to be failing. Other users report that the white battery connector also causes problems. In my case it was the black one, I soldered it a month ago and the problem was resolved.

Screen non-responsive when using Smart Display - Hardware or Software Issue?

Hi
Just got my U12+ today. I've noticed that quite often if I unlock the phone by fingerprint, it shows the home screen but the screen is totally unresponsive. I can't click/touch anything.
It remains unresponsive, even if the screen times out (1min later) and then I reunlock.
The only way to fix it is to use the power button to switch off the screen and then it will work immediately afterwards when I unlock.
I have done multiple restarts, and 1 hard reset and it is still happening.
Any thoughts on what is causing/how to fix?
UPDATE:
I've spent quite a few hours googling and testing different setting options, and the issue seems to only occur when "Smart Display" is turned on.
If the Smart Display is on (either motion or always on) gets engaged, if I then unlock via Fingerprint, it shows the home screen, but the touch screen is totally unresponsive. It doesn't register any taps/touches (I turned on Dev options).
Is this a hardware or software issue? Anyone else experience this?
Thanks

Phone model and current software build.
Are you rooted? Any root based mods, kernel, room, etc.
Hi
Thanks
U12+ running 1.21.454.3
Totally stock. Only got the phone on Saturday.
Did one hard reset and issue still there.
In usage since my last update, it is 100% related to the Smart Display. Absolutely no issues when it is turned off. When I enable Smart Display, then it starts freezing again on unlock.
Hi,
I'm having the same problem too..
I got my set on the 15/09/18, Hong Kong Set.
Mine is currently on 1.25.708.3. But prior to the update, I am already having the same problem described by leginag.
I even tried to do a factory reset but the problem still surface. It will become unresponsive after waking up after a period of screen off (not sure how many minutes).
After turning off Smart Display ( thanks leginag!) , I'm able to use it flawlessly. I was about to unlock the bootloader and flash a custom rom though..
I think this problem is quite disruptive, especially when a call comes in, or when launching the camera app through the edge sense. I can only snap using the squeeze.
Nonetheless, I hope there are other alternatives to Smart Display though..
Hi, I've been having the same issue. Thanks for looking into it hopefully it gets fixed in the next update.

I hope it does get fixed. I reported it to HTC and they said they would forward it to their engineers. That was 2+ weeks ago, and nothing else heard back.
Best thing for you to do may be to submit a support ticket to HTC. If everyone who has the issues sends it in, this will flag it with their engineers that it is a wider problem.
Could you let us know your model/firmware?

Thanks.
Hoping this issue is software related. So far, only people with Asia models have reported it (only 3, but at least I'm not going crazy by myself!)
ASIA HK - x2
ASIA JP - x1
Got a response from HTC, saying it is a software issue and should be fixed in next update - around mid-October.
Today, I got information about that this issue will be solve by software update.
Moreover, it is arranged on around middle of October.

Thank you for this. I just got my u12+ and thought it was faulty.
Turned off smart display.
I'm having this problem as well, Asia HK.
Curious, is anyone also having problems with TWRP? I almost always get a nonresponsive screen when fastboot booting.
Just a heads up that the 1.30 update has fixed the issue for me.
Which is a relief. Not that I was missing using Smart Display, but just feel better not having an issues with my phone
Hi there,
I am using Asia HK and have the same problem with you.
But I still didnt receive any update patch for 1.30. May I ask which area did your phone belong to?

I've had this issue twice, once on 1.25 and once on 1.30 so I do not think it is fixed yet but it has been very rare for me. Only twice since the phone launched but it is very inconvenient when it happens. I could only fix mine with a reboot.
Removing my original reply as I don't believe it relates to this bug after all!
(A Factory Reset sorted out my device, incidentally)
