Help me stay on Android... - XDA Assist

I have bought a Xiaomi Mi5 phone, finally switching from Apple after 8 years...
Anyway, I rely on Wi-Fi calling (T-mobile) because I work in a basement with no network signal.
I cannot, for the life of me, manage to get it working!
As soon as I realized it was not supported by MIUI, I got the bootloader unlocked and flashed to various ROMS.
A couple of them did not offer Wi-Fi calling, and I finally settled for Resurrection Remix 5.8 (Based on LineageOS and on 7.1.1).
Wi-Fi calling exists and is turned on, but it does not work... (ROM last updated on 2/27)
T-Mobile confirmed that everything is fine on their side, and if I put my sim card back into my iPhone Wi-Fi calling works just fine.
LTE appears not to be functional either (3G max) but that is not a total show stopper...
Anyone able to help out?
Otherwise I'm gonna have to switch back to Apple, sigh...

[Q] Data on custom ROMs no longer working

A couple of weeks ago the data stopped working on my Photon Q running CM 10.2. I was on my way to the airport when I noticed and couldn't do much about it at the time. During my time away I had 3G and 4G everywhere I went but as soon as I got back in town this past weekend I lost it again.
I'm in Chicago and I think Sprint recently turned on that Spark network here so it may have something to do with that. I live just outside the city and everywhere that I got 3G before I still seem to be able to get 3G. Everywhere that I was getting 4G LTE I now get nothing. If I set my network type to 3G it will connect, but not on LTE or Global.
I flashed back to stock and updated my PRL and Profile. On 4.0.4 I connect quickly and have no issues with LTE data from here in my home. With CM 10.2 (~1 month old), CM 11 (latest nightly), and Carbon (latest nightly) I get nothing.
Anyone have any ideas on how I can this resolved on custom ROMs?
You're no the only one....
My phone is activated on Prepayd Wireless and eHRPD is dead, same with EVDO data. LTE and 1xRTT is working fine; that leads me to believe its a radio/PRL issue. Unfortunately I cannot get QPST to work at all so I may be stuck.

[Q] Horrible reception-- new phone development

I've started having some horrible issues with my phone connecting to Verizon networks properly. I used to be able to connect to 4G networks at my house and surrounding area with no issue, but now I've been having the worst time getting it to lock. Currently I'm connected to 3G at -99dBm in my household.
I originally was running stock, but fully rooted, S-Off. I've since switched to trying AOKP and now I've settled on Sinless GPe 3.4.7. I have not seen any real difference between them as far as getting a good connection to the network. I started switching ROMs well after I've noticed an issue, and I have not done much of anything to my phone in the last few weeks that I could attribute to the change. I've never dropped the phone or damaged it in any way.
I just recently traveled across the state and would run speedtests next to my wife's iPhone 5c and 19/20 times she'd show full bars with LTE service while I was either on 3G or no service at all. My phone will connect to 4G sometimes though, it's just not that often.
I read that there may be an issue with my SIM card, so I stopped in and had it replaced. The guy seemed very confused about the state of my phone software, so he blamed any issue I was having on the software installed. Regardless I did get a new SIM card installed. It did not seem to help at all. Can anybody help me? I'd hope to not have to go through the hassle of attempting to get the phone replaced!
Bootloader information:
HBoot-3.16.0.0000
Radio-0.89.20.0321
After rebooting my phone, my phone locked to an LTE signal at -112dBm. It does not speed test at over 3Mbps. Testing my wife's iPhone shows her at -100dBm and she was able to pull 30Mbps down.
There is talk of poor signal reception/speed in gpe threads. Cm based Roms, dunno. Try flashing a sense ROM, do some tests and report back
I recommend clean ROM or any other ROM on Verizon base
I just received my M8 yesterday and am having the same issues (both wifi and LTE) running the latest PA. Going to try something with a VZW base and report back.

I reloaded my backup of the Stock ROM and I am still seeing the same issues. It seems to connect sometimes but most of the time it will not. It seems like its just not getting a good lock. I am having trouble even using the phone at my house now whereas I've always had great service here. Doing a speed test now, the phone states 3G service, tested with 705 ping, download of 0.17, upload shot up to 58.19 (which obviously isn't true) and then froze while testing and has been here for over three minutes.

I would run the RUU and try again, and just see if something got boogered
Confirming as well that the reception isn't the greatest with this phone/radio in the so so service areas.
I live out in the country. Never had good reception with Sprint no matter the phone. Switched to Verizon with an LG G2 and service was fantastic at home for the 7 months I owned it. I moved to the M8 and now phone service is spotty at my house. It's the radio for sure. Wifes verizon moto works great at home as well.
I've had the same issue, updated radios, flash back to stock, and everything else. The radio on this phone IMO is terrible, even when it does get 4G I get like 8 mbps down with 4 bars of 4g. Once in a great while i'll get 18 - 20 down with 5 bars of 4g.
I've been experiencing the same things recently as well. It also affects sending SMS messages. I am on stock too (with s-off). Nothing changed on my phone though, it just started dying.
Never had signal issues. I live out in the boonies too. Signal is strong and switching between 3g and 4g has been smooth. I've been able to download torrents as fast as 5mb/s. Speed test results have been just awesome. As far as signal goes, it's been better than my note 3, DNA, and my wife's droid mini. And this is my second m8. My son has the first and it is the same as mine.
I would look into exchanging them if they don't keep up with other phones. The radio in this phone is actually pretty damn sweet, so if u got a funky one, I'd exchange it. Def try the ruu first, then exchange if that doesn't help.

Is the Link+ an alternative to Wifi-Calling?

I have a weak cellphone signal in my area and would like to use the Wifi-calling feature which can help me use wifi network to relay the cellphone signal (didn't buy any 4G plan but on 2/3G). As this phone doesn't have Wifi-calling enabled (at least for T-mobile in US), I wonder if the Link+ works as wifi-calling should do? I haven't gotten my nano-SIM card yet and hence cannot test it. Thanks.
Hi Guys, I am T-mobile user and switch to Honor 8 from Motorola Nexus 6 about three months back and after use around week felt that this is the best Phone ever better than iPhone 6S. After few days used this phone found that it's doesn't have WiFi calling feature which does have on Nexus 6 because at my work place very barely T-mobile signals reach. Try to find some blogs and got that will get this feature in next update vEMUI 5.0 with Android 7.0 which i got recently few days back. but still this feature doesn't show up or working at all. now I am feeling like this is the wrong choise coz it not supporting WiFi calling which normally most smartphones does support.
Huwai Team please address this and let us know if any fix is available to overcome this.

Poor cellular reception Oneplus 6

Hello all.
I have a Oneplus 6 and for the past year have had reception problems. I have had AT&T for many years and my previous phone (Oneplus One) and my current (Oneplus 6) did work just fine (between 2015 and 2018). However, since mid 2019, I have had dropped calls and almost every call I make/receive from my house (located in suburbs of Chicago) the person on the other end can not hear me well (I can always hear them just fine). I have updated my phone OS with the official Oxygen versions as they were released. My thought was that AT&T changed settings on their 3G towers and were denying me the ability to make voice calls over 4G (I can see that when i make a call the icon changes to HSDPA....maybe I am missing something?
So, after countless phone calls to AT&T, I decided to try Google Fi. I have been using both sim cards in my device for a few months now. Google Fi has been good, much better than AT&T, but lately it too has been giving me similar issues.
I am posting here to see if perhaps anyone has any idea on whether or not a new rom (Lineage OS or similar) will help. I am not new to flashing roms, having used Lineage and Cyanogen for years.
1. Would a new rom help my situation? How so?
2. Is there a particularly Stable or popular rom that the Oneplus 6 community gravitates towards?
Thanks!

Funny that you mention that. I have returned to Google Fi after a year and the mobile internet quality has been worse than ever! It just does not work most of the time. Either says LTE, but with an exclamation mark or straight up does not work. I am on latest stock and also wondering if lineage would help.
It seems like putting simcard into sim slot 2 gives marginally better performance? Not sure.
When installing opengapps, you can replace stock carrier services with google's. Might help. I will try it today

s10e (SM-G970F/DS) LineageOS: Is WiFi Calling/VoLTE working?

I have recently acquired a Samsung s10e and would very much like to install LineageOS (Official).
Wifi Calling is an absolute necessity for me, as I live in a rural area (UK) with very poor signal coverage.
Can anyone confirm whether WiFi Calling (and VoLTE) is working on the latest version of LineageOS for the s10e? Both work fine on the stock ROM.
Many thanks in advance.
I am on lineage 20.0, Samsung S10e. Preferred network type "LTE" is available as an option in SIMS settings. I'm not sure if it works or not - no VoLTE symbol nest to signal strength in status bar. No VoWIFI option that I can find. Not sure if this helps your query!
Thank you for your reply,
I have now installed Lineage 20 on my S10E, and have confirmed the same settings. I have decided that a de-googled phone is more important to me than WiFi calling for the time being! I wonder if there is any chance that the Samsung framework problem will ever be solved?
Please excuse my ignorance, but my main concern is that when 3G is turned off (sometime next year in the UK), Lineage will stop working on this device. Do you know if VoLTE is necessary for 4G use, or is "LTE" connection sufficient?
I have decided the same - de-googled and de-samsunged! The Lineage OS is so much cleaner and faster.
VoLTE is required to make a voice call over the 4g network. You can still make calls over 4g or wi-fi using data via a messenger type app if that helps. I think it is also possible to make calls on S10e Lineage using 2g and that network is not being switched off for a few years yet.
Also, O2 have not announced when their 3g network is being switched off in the UK so might not be for a while - as the phone is dual SIM you could get another SIM card to help with poor signal coverage?
For now I think it is worth living without VoLTE - it is a price worth paying!
Exactly my thinking!
The VoLTE is a medium term concern, but my real problem is the lack of WiFi calling. I live in a rural area with atrocious signal levels, so it would make so life so much easier, but, as you say, for the moment it's a price worth paying.
I wonder if there is any hope for a replacement for Samsung's framework on this device????
