Pixel memory problem - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

So I bought Pixel recently (32gb, for me it's enough), already rooted with custom kernel and so on.
Today I made wipe and flashed last factory image 7.1.1, no problems until after first reboot the detected space is only 10gb that of course I have already filled up.
What can cause this awful problem, and how can I resolve to get back my 32gb?
Edit: after being on Google seems a data partition problem. I'm looking for a way to fix, but some help is really appreciated.

Update: in memory settings system partition was about 20GB (incredibly huge).
Wipe from TWRP didn't help, I selected eveything under "advanced wipe", still 10gb of usable data.
I fixed using adb, issuing the command "fastboot -w".

[Q] How do I un-**** myself?

I'm having trouble getting feedback, and Google is of little help. I'm sure I'm not the only person with this problem but I can't find anyone else with the answer so I'm hoping one of you has a link to my answer.
Anyways I got a GoTab 6Inch running 4.0.4
It came stock with a main partition of 400MB and an SD partition of 2.3GB.
Out of both of these partitions, the 400MB one was protected in and the 2.3GB on could be "erased" by going into the settings and then storage. So I decide to "Factory Reset" and check the "Erase SD card" box.
Well with no warning from the tablet's home page or included instruction booklets, they say nothing about what was on this "free to erase" open partition. Apparantly it had some way-important files as I now can't get into recovery menu. The 400MB partition went down to 0.00MB but somehow has 39MB reserved for apps. And the 2.3GB is empty as 2.3GB. As well as no recovery menu, you also can't format to factory settings now.
Since the main partition is 0.00MB, you can't install or update apps. Also settings can't be saved, so every app is booting up as if its the 1st time every time.
If I learned anything from my Android 1.5 guides I used to read about 4 years ago, I think I need to somehow manually root, flash a new recovery, make a partition or two, and flash a whole new kernal/OS. Can anyone help with this? Getting a new recovery and partitions working properly is of the utmost imprtance because now if something goes wrong, I cant go into recovery to unbrick a device.
hello?

Curious question/observation on factory reset

Non-critical, just an observation that I am looking for additional information on.
I purchased a 32g S3 phone from someone that already updated to CM10.2. It looked like the seller reset something (no apps, data, phone started in initial setup mode), but there was obviously a lot of trash left over on internal storage that I wanted to clear away.
After clearing everything away, and downloading several apps to help remove more, I found that the internal storage was still >50% utilized. Even digging around in the root file system, I was still at a loss to figure out where more than 12gb was being consumed.
I tried a factory reset in clockworkmod, clear cache, etc. I did not dive into formatting partitions. On restart, I still see >50% consumed space and temp folders left around in the user data /sdcard area.
Out of curiosity I tried the factory reset from the CM10 system menu. After rebooting phone, it seems like all storage was properly cleaned up with about 26gb of 32g free; significant improvement.
So, there is clearly something different between a CWM factory reset and a CM10 factory reset. For the latter, it looks like the whole user-data area was formatted and repopulated with necessary folders/files. I suspect my “lost” space was somewhere in root….
I am just curious to know what more the CM10 system factory reset is doing above what the bootloader is trying to do.
Thanks!
When you do a Factory Reset in recovery (I use TWRP so it may be phrased different in CWM) it is intentional that this option does not wipe /sdcard (internal storage). You have to choose to wipe internal storage (in TWRP it's called Formatting data") by going into that Format menu to wipe all of your data from the phone. If a factory reset wiped internal storage, then there would be an incredible amount of angry people who lost important files like pics and videos. The option is there in custom recovery, it's just buried so that when you find it, you intend to use it on purpose and not by accident.
Edit: Factory reset is literally clearing cache, dalvik cache, and the rom from your phone. If you boot it up without installing a rom then your phone won't do anything cuz it's without an OS.

And the 'system' partition in 'data'.
But all that other crap apps plunk on your internal memory remains, unless you do a 'system wipe' from TWRP or CWM. But that will delete everything on the internal memory. That's what I'd do if I were giving my device away... though I tend to just Odin/RSD/CAB back to stock (depending on the device) for best results.

Un-Partition via TWRP

I just finished installing the latest ROM (YOG4PAS1N0) from here:
[ROM][YOG4PAS1N0] Cyanogen OS 12.1 [Rooted][TWRP flashable][NEW OTA]
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-cyanogen-os-12-1-t3186593/page10
and it works amazing!!! No issues so far...while I was doing it I decided to use TWRP 2.8.6.0 to do a back up. I know that the following is a very "old school" way of backing my data but what I used to do is just save all the files in the exact same way my OPO is shown via the windows file system, and so I used to cut and copy .....place in a folder and done.... I have every single picture I have EVER taken since I owned a camera phone in 2007 but thats besides the point,,,I backup up my data via TWRP and I noticed that it created a 10GB partition. I am ok with it cause I keep a pretty clean phone...I have 10 apps at most and some pictures and videos.
I was wondering in the interest of recuperating that 10GB is there a way to unpartition it? my back up is 2.67 GB large and as you guessed it, I saved it on my PC....so I could do with out it on my phone. BY the way I didn't do a system or data wipe when I installed the ROM...flash and dalvik and cache wipe....I figured if I screwed up, I could do a FULL FORMAT and copy paste the files I wanted. But the update worked flawlessly ..except for the 10GB "missing"....
This is not an emergency, I can live without the 10GB I was just curious.........I have 54GB out of which I am only using 9GB...plenty left
Thanks for any help and for taking the time and reading this...
I did search for the answer but most users have other partition issues such as not loading or not finding it....I also google TWRP partitions and I got a lot of "how to use it" stuff...but nothing on how to "un partition"

What do you mean when you say it created a 10gb partition? TWRP doesn't create a partition when it makes a backup so I'm confused as to what you mean by that.

There is no 10GB partition. When a device says that there is 64 GB of storage, a bit of it is lost in formatting. It does not mean that when you plug in your phone you will get 64GB of storage. Additionally, there are several partitions, including data and system that are not visible to the user without root (or in recovery). These partitions also take up space on your phone (adding up to around 10GB of lost space), and are not visible when you plug in your phone. This is why your phone only shows 54 out of 64GB in the storage menu in settings, mine does as well. If you did have a 10GB partition on your phone, your phone would show 44GB when plugged in. I believe you can make the system partitions smaller, but its not recommended. This is simply off my memory so if I misunderstood the question or said anything wrong please be welcome to correct me.

I figured it was a 10GB partition because I was 10GB short (64GB out of the box vs 54GB) what I have, even though I now that OS and apps take up space. So what is the actual partition size that is created when TWRP creates a back up? The size of said back up? ....my mistake...
your explanation cleared it up. If I remove the back up from my phone will I recover that HDD space? or is it already saved for future back ups?

Your backups are created on the visible portion of the data partition, in a folder called TWRP. No partition is created during a backup. You will not gain more than the available space on your phone by deleting the backup.

TWRP doesn't create a partition, it simply creates a folder in your internal storage to place your backups in. That folder will only ever be the size of your backup(s). The moment you delete/move a backup you have that space free again, they're just like any other file that consumes space on a drive (it only consumes space while it's actually there).

ok So it works like any other file / folder...erase and you have the HDD space again....Thanks for clearing that up

Very high system storage after NMF26Q update

Hey guys, I had a ton of trouble flashing this system image and couldn't run the flash-all.sh script (it kept saying "killed" when the fastboot update command was run). I only have a Chromebook with GalliumOS right now and I'm out of town, but I managed to manually flash the components and get everything running.
My problem is that there's 19.9gb out of 32gb being used for the System under the Manage Storage Setting. I've tried using various storage apps but they just show the available and used storage after what's left after System.
How can I correct this? When I get to a PC I'll try downloading the system image again and flashing it from there. But as I said, I'm out of town, very limited on time and very limited with my internet connectivity. If anyone could help that would be tremendous!
I just noticed this as well. 19.99GB used by System. On NMF26U. I had re-flashed the full image from Google since I messed up in the middle of rooting, before I noticed this. Did you find a solution?
im having the same issue...i thought this phone had 32gb of storage...but even with a clean flash it says 19.99gb used..how?? and i only have like 9.7gb of user storage...ive read other people have 20gb left to use..what i am i missing?
Im using purenexus and i have around 23GB free storage

If rooted down load and run trimmer I found this freed up over 10gb of space

Need full ROM dump of Nexus 5

Hello,
Yesterday my good old friend, ordered via google store in 2014, suddenly rebooted, bootlooped twice in a row and then booted with most of apps missing (including system ones like keyboard). Factory reset did literally nothing - it's rebooted into same half-working system.
I've rebooted in TWRP, found a lot disk errors via fsck, did mkfs of all partitions and reflashed ROM. I've already did this few months ago in same situation, but this time it's not helped - i hanged at welcome screen and a lot of I/O errors in logs.
Internal flash memory of phone has died. But i know that flash memory can be recovered by a low level zeroing and did this dozen of times. I know that this will help me only for a very little time but i need only a day or two until holidays will end.
I've did nandroid backup of /persist and /firmware partitions and did "dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/block/mmcblk0" (currently my phone in TWRP so it's a not yet hard bricked until reboot).
Now i need to restore a full ROM. There is 20+ partitions totally, most of them are hidden, never changes and that's why are not a part of nandroid backups or so. I need all this firmware-related stuff but can't find that nowhere.
So i need anybody with Nexus 5 LTE to do a full 16GB backup for me. For this, boot in TWRP, attach USB drive via OTG and do following in adb:
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0 of=/usb-otg/rom.img
I don't need any data from /system or /data, you may wipe data but partitions itself must be included - i've lost master boot record. Also i'm ALMOST sure that i have D820(H) model but only now i founded that there is a D820(E) model too, i don't know difference and not 100% sure that i have (H) so I will be grateful for a both variants. Need LTE, not European model.
Thank you in advance!
