Dead GPS ? Hardware test code - Honor 8 Questions & Answers

Hello,
3 days ago I dropped my phone, it survived thanks to the official rubbery case, it just rebooted by itself and nothing more, not event a scratch.
Yesterday, I've noticed Google Maps having a hard time to locate me, I tried several things, reboot, another gps app, even the app GPS Test but I can't get a single GPS signal, I think my gps may have died from the drop but I'm still unsure.
I'd like to test it through the hardware test you can usually access with the emui secret code but I can't find a working one on EMUI 5, is there any secret code for hardware test in EMUI 5 ? What can I try ?
Thanks

dead GPS
Similar problem but without dropping the phone...
After about two months of owning the phone I just realized that the GPS doesn´t work at all.
It went unnoticed because I always use wifi+mobile data option that is sufficient to locate me in Google maps. Only when I needed real navigation I realized there is a problem.
It certainly is not caused by mechanical damage because the phone is masked from the day 1 and had never been dropped.
I did a factory reset with no success (i am on emui5, b360). Applications for testing GPS signal can not locate any satellite, let alone get a fix on. It looks as if the GPS is completely dead.
Has anyone had a similar problem?
Or some advice what to do before I take it to service center...

Hi, i bought a FRD-L04 in USA in january, ive the same issue. The first month it was working just fine, then i didnt use the gps for days and the OTA comes. And now i realice that the gps isnt working the way u are saying. the phone has not a single drop, not a single scratch, so i think its a software problem.... i was thinking in a downgrade to marshmallow to see if the problem is in the ota

Mine is FRD-L09.
I cant really tell whether the problem appeared with upgrading to EMUI5 because I upgraded the same day I bought it (and never used GPS-only location service anyway).
If you try downgrading to MM and it solves the problem, please report back.

Just to let you know, after a factory reset the GPS was still dead.
I have sent it to the service center, I don't know what they did to the phone but the GPS is working again.

It worked for me too!
Do you plan to go back to EMUI 5? If you do, please report back the GPS status.
I´ll stay on MM for a few days, only to test the battery (since I upgraded to N the day I bought it).

Hi. Where can I find the Rom to downgrade to 6.0 MM?

GPS isnt working, can anyone help?

Hi all!
Been all over the forum looking for a solution. From what I understand I think I have a faulty handset but it's just come back from from repairs (for other problems) with updated rom/radio. Seems a little strange as it was working before I sent it, now its not.... Same handset...
When I run Google maps and Waze they both see the GPS but it wont pick up any satellites...
Before you say it, i've tested this on the road, in a field .ect so it isnt the signal, tried setting it up manually in google maps, still no joy.
Am I going to have to be without my baby for another week?
Any advice would be welcome, thanks in advance
Hi mate...
I offer no helping hints.. but I got mine back from HTC HK for a shattered screen and had the same problem. I had to return it to HTC to fix, its been about 2-3 weeks and still no answer. They initially told me that its may be just the GPS or associated chip set wasn't plugged in properly... So they will fix it with out charge (incl. freight chargers)
So your not alone with this problem
Try gpstest free fom this page to just test your gps inpriciple excluding any other apps:

Thank you

Thanks for the reply mate. Was beginning to think it was something i had done,
The main thing that baffled me was its the same even after a Hard reset and standard settings.
At least I know what I have to do. Cant believe I've got to send it off again..
Last time was for a faulty board, what next?
Back to the old Nokia 9500 then... Sigh...

Poor/Broken GPS performance

Hi,
The GPS on my Oneplus One appears to be very close to broken after the OTA update to 5.1. My phone is completely stock - ie not rooted, locked bootloader, the whole lot. Everything else on the device works beautifully.
I've searched around and it doesn't appear to be a very common problem with this phone.
The GPS worked flawlessly on 4.4 and I think on 5.0 (was only on 5.0 for a couple of days before the 5.1 OTA came through).
Using GPS test I can see 32 satellites, but it will very, very slowly fix to 7 or 8 and sometimes get a lock, mostly not.
Is this something anyone else is finding, or has a fix for?
I'm not against rooting and flashing another ROM, it just seems a little overkill when everything else works so well.
Thanks in advance for any help...
Did you tried GPS Fix from Playstore?
Sent from my A0001 using XDA Free mobile app
^^^ Yes, often resetting and downloading new AGPS data can fix this. I use GPS Status & Toolbox.
Thanks guys. "The GPS Fix" app sorted it out. I'm not sure what it actually does behind the scenes but I'm getting a solid lock instantly now.
Is this something I'm going to need to do periodically, or after a reboot to keep it working?
Cheers...

I travel a lot internationally and only have to do it when I go to another region. Once I'm in a region for a while, I just leave it alone.
This is what I used http://ejvyas.blogspot.com/2015/10/one-plus-one-bacon-gps-fix.html
Did it work well long term?
I thought I'd fixed this with the apps mentioned earlier, but it's still pretty poor. 30 seconds plus to fix and then drops out constantly...
Same issue here.. It started after the last update..I travel for business and I use the phone to plan my route.. Last trip had great weather yet horrible drop off. Hasn't gotten any better since..

Hello,
I have the same problem since update to Android 6.0.
I have done all OTA update and i've the lastest version from their website... but no GPS.
I have opened a ticket on their support but the answer is always :
" Hello, we are still working on it. Updates will come some days later.
Have a nice day!".
I send us 3 messages in one month and i'm still waiting from us...
Hope they will find a solution quickly !
Bye
Still no new update from ulefone, when can i use my GPS, with a stable signal?
I have the same issue. BTW: fingerprint sensor wakes up the device randomly, with no finger on it. LED lights not working even with the newest firmware.
For GPS: mobile GSM data are in conflict with GPS. There will be NO WAY how to SW fix this.
Returning this device to seller. This is the worst lack of tests prior manufacturing I have ever seen..

no service (network) but it recognize the sim, no flashing, bought new from samsung.h

hello
i have a samsung s6 920f that i bought from samsung.
one day the bottom buttons stoped working (somtimes they did) and i gave it to samsung lab that said to me that the phone cannot be fixed and that they noticed the charging is not good also.
there was no problem with the network or signal before i gave to the lab and just got it back from them with the buttons not working and the lab said there are water damges etc.
after i got my s6 back i checked youtube and saw that the problem is with the charging and buttons moudle.
i got to anothe lab and they said that the fix could brake the screen because of the glue in the back of it so that the will not take the blame if they brake it.
so i got the parts and broke my screen myself while trying to replace the buttons
after i nroke my screen i took the device to a lab and they installed a new screen and buttons and charging port - now the buttons works well as well as charging - and the lab did not see water damge
the problem is that from that point the device has no network but it recognize the sim itself and whats on it. i cant search for networks or somthing like that.
i rooted the phone, i restarted it a few times i installed new rom old roms deleted imei restored it when i installed the original firmware, tryed differnt roms but nothing.
in all of the roms there is no network at all.
now the lab told me that they cannot find somthing but got another phone like mine that was "untoched" but same problem.
my phone havent been repaird and bought from samsung itself in israel.
does anybody knows a technical soloution to the problem (not go to samsung) or the phone and address samsung main lab in korea?
i have a new phone but i want to solve this.
i will mention that the antenna cable is attched and the sim works in my new phone and had tried the phone with a few sims.
for the s3 i saw somthing named ariza patch but it didnot worked on my device.
any ideas apart from not buying samsung phone again?
bump
got the phone back from the lab today

how it started?
i am trying to understand what the problem is.
i flashed a new pit and 6/0/1 firmware but no change.
i have noticed that the signal strength is -113db in the phone. - dows it says somthing to you?
it cold be a reception unit in the phone? does anyone have clue about it? do you jave a link for the part?
it turned out that samsung dont deal with parts only with boards and its ashame.
anyone knows a lab that i can send the phone to that repair electronics and not just play with plug and play parts?
baseband is ok
fyi - i flashed new pit and original firmware to try if it's a software issue but nothing.
also custom firmware not working.
any test mode code?

i want to downgrade from 6.0.1 but wuth no luck.
i noticed a bootloader problem on updates. and ! mark.
no chance to downgrade from 6.0.1 to 5.1.1 and even if you can what's the point?
i belive this problem came from certificates error and will not be solved by downgrading or upgrading software

Sometimes can't get a GPS fix on my Honor 8 FRD-L09

Hi everyone... couple of days ago I went to a road trip. Saturday morning my navigation worked flawlessly. But, Sunday evening I couldn't get a GPS fix. I tried both Google Maps and HERE WeGo (online and offline). I thought it was due to my location (which shouldn't be the case).
Monday morning I installed GPS Status application and tried to troubleshoot the issue. First I reset the A-GPS state and hoped it would solve the problem... unfortunately, it didn't. Next, I deleted Play Services cache and data. Also, didn't help. As a final step I reset the phone to factory settings (excluding deleting personal data)... as you might guess, didn't help either.
GPS Status app sometimes gets a fix in 10-15 seconds and shows the data received from the satellites. Most of the time it doesn't get a fix - TTF goes over 300 seconds or 5 minutes and then I stop the test.
Does anyone have similar issues? I guess it might be issue with the firmware update I received a few weeks ago because this is the first time I've used navigation since the update. It could also be a problem with the GPS chip itself. Any help is appreciated.
I never experienced this problem though I seldomly use GPS, it locks in pretty well.

I also rarely use navigation, but when I do, it's crucial that it works... I've never had issues with Honor 8 and GPS until couple of days ago (at least that's the first time I've noticed it). I'll wait for firmware update before sending it in for repairs.
