Sony can't or won't fix nougat Bluetooth metadata issue - Sony Xperia XZ Questions & Answers

Hi folks
Tried in vein to get an answer on the Bluetooth metadata issue with Xperia XZ on nougat, and it was utterly pointless, if your trying to get help form Sony live chat don't bother. Still no further forward and so frustrated! Here is the transcript (sorry second half as had to restart and didn't save first half, but you get the idea):

Welcome to Sony Xperia Support, my name is Jordan G. I’m currently reading your question. Please provide your e-mail address and contact number for personalized support.
Justin Horsburgh 06:57:02 pm
Well what can you do?? I'm seriously considering going to another brand and telling others to avoid Sony phones. Can you please please speak to one of your bosses and give me some indication as to when the next update will be. It's within my rights as a consumer and as a warranty holder for one of your products. I have a golf mk7 2013 model can you please check compatibility for as well.
Hello??? 06:58:51 pm
Jordan G 06:59:08 pm
As I have advised we don't test the compatibility
I can't advise you what products this works with just the profiles it supports.
If the other product supports the same profiles then they should work.
Justin Horsburgh 07:01:41 pm
No tell me when the next update will arrive please. Somebody within the entire Sony organisation must know, so please go and find out. I have an Xperia phone running Android software and a Vw golf, three of the most popular brands in the world! Surely there should be a way to make them communicate properly together.
Jordan G 07:02:08 pm
Sorry no we don't have a timescale for the new update otherwise I would provide you this information.
Software updates are released at different times depending on the operator, market, region or country. Therefore, we cannot give you an exact date for when a specific update will be available for your device. In addition, network operators and specific markets may choose not to avail of the updates for specific models.
Justin Horsburgh 07:03:29 pm
Well then can you please find out when Xperia XZ phones on the O2 network In the UK will next be updated? Is that specific enough for you to check?
Jordan G 07:03:48 pm
Is there anything else I can help with in the mean time?
As advised I will not be able to provide that information as we don't have it.
Justin Horsburgh 07:05:36 pm
No just help me with my current problem, as I refuse to believe that one of the very clever people in your huge organisation can't help me, can you go and find someone in a technical department who can help please. Perhaps if I send you my phone, you can test it with a car yourself and see that I'm not lying to you.
Jordan G 07:06:06 pm
I have provided you all the information I can regarding this and it's a compatibility issue that could be resolved in the future update, however I can't confirm this as we will not be testing it with the Car kits of any third party manufacturer. I have explained that we will not test it with car kits as it isn't our responsibility to ensure it works,
Justin Horsburgh 07:06:29 pm
What is the point of a warranty if the manufacturer won't help when something is wrong. The problem is with the phone, I promise you that.
It's not a car kit, It is the built in Bluetooth in my car and as I say I am not alone. So perhaps you should read the forums once in a while as this is a huge issue that Sony and Google need to investigate. 07:07:40 pm
Jordan G 07:08:00 pm
The warranty is for manufacturing defects, the device isn't facing a manufacturing defect unfortunately.
Justin Horsburgh 07:08:20 pm
Well it is, as it isn't working as advertised.
Jordan G 07:08:27 pm
It is still a bluetooth car kit and it isn't our responsibility to ensure it works.
We don't advitise that it works with third party items 100% of the time because we can't ensure that.
Advertise sorry* 07:09:09 pm
Justin Horsburgh 07:09:41 pm
The car kit is working fine trust me. The phone isn't sending the metadata to the car, other people are saying this is happening on a number of cars so it must be the phone!!!
Jordan G 07:10:10 pm
I'm not saying either of them doesn't work I'm saying that they are not compatible.
Justin Horsburgh 07:13:27 pm
So let me get this right, Sony are advising me to buy a new phone or a new car? Have I got that right, just so I can tell people thats all, and advise them against going for a Sony phone.
Is there someone higher up I can speak to? 07:14:27 pm
Jordan G 07:14:44 pm
I'm not advising either I'm confirming that if you have done a software repair and the issues are still present that the problem is a mater of compatibility. What you decide to do next is a decision you make yourself.
They will advise you the same information there is no way to change the fact it isn't working with a car kit if you have tried the software repair I apologise for any inconvenience caused. 07:15:19 pm
Justin Horsburgh 07:16:07 pm
Can I somehow get a transcript of this conversation to put on the forums, for others to see how unhelpful you have been and so they don't waste their time like I have.
Jordan G 07:16:44 pm
Press the email symbol on the screen to send the chat to yourself.
Justin Horsburgh 07:17:02 pm
And so I can tell them that in 2017 there is no answer to a simple software issue from the manufacturer.
Jordan G 07:18:34 pm
Sorry but we are in no way aware of what bluetooth grading the car kit you are speaking in regards of is using, again this also is not our responsibility to ensure this works as I have stated. However I do apologise regarding the situation present.
Please be aware that this chat will disconnect within 5 minutes if we do not hear from you. 07:22:42 pm

As you can see no help and no hope on the horizon.

you should make a post in sony's own forums.

Customer service / tech support people at basically any company do not have information on release dates until they are imminent, and do not typically have a way to escalate problems to the developers. You're talking to the wrong people.

I have xz with latest nougat and mine car kit is fully working. Without ANY problems. Only problems with a asus phone. You should talk with who made this car kit. I heard some phones (not Sony) with problems with some car kits.

It works fine with marshmallow central European firmware. Not nougat UK firmware. Annoying I'm having to stick with marshmallow because of this issue.

Odd?
I have bought a number of items from them and had no problems?
Hard to comment when you dont expand (pardon the pun) on your experience
I too have purchased from them and find them very helpful.
When i asked if the phone could be delivered to my work address if it was early or home address if it was late, it unexpectedly did come to my work address!
Very happy!
Expansys technical support
I guess the guy bought an Expansys branded (MWG) phone.
Expansys is very good at selling equipment and customer services related to sales in general but technical support for products they launch themselves is another matter. But I guess they are learning in the process. Very few "voluntary" support staff respond to enquiries on their forum and it takes a long time for the answer to really help you. But from what I read here HTC is not much better otherwise we would not need the help of all you guys.

Unfortunately they are "learning" the wrong way, i.e. in favour of profit over users. MWg support is a prime example - when they first launched their own products under the Ubiquio brand there was regular dialogue on the forums between customers, the Expansys/Ubiquio product managers, and even the TFW engineers, as well as actively developed firmware. Since the move to MWg, that's pretty much all dried up, and the whole of eXpansys' official forum support is done by one, very busy, employee (in addition to a few volunteer helpers who answer general questions).
On the other hand, that's still a lot more than you get from most other on-line retailers.
I use eXpansys sometimes for small purchases. Never had a problem.
It seems though from various things I've heard they are very good when everything is going right. When something goes wrong however....oh dear!
Just some random person with a grudge trying to take down a company. Woooohooooo! You fail!
I have purchased several items from them with no problems - they bent over backwards to get my diamond to me before i went on hols
Not the best
I asked a qu on the forum; was not even acknowledged.
I also asked a qu about getting my USB port fixed via their service; I noticed I had a few missed calls one night which could have been them, but I never received an email reply...

You never get response from them, thats my experience too.
You get less information how things will get handled when you deal with Expansys.
Good or bad, have seen other companies who take customer care serious.
Thats the point.
My first order went perfect from them, my next one was not what i did order. then the **** begins.

Donating HTC Hero devices to developers etc.

Sorry if this is the wrong place to post this, if I'm wrong please move my thread to the correct location. I wanted more traffic than what the Market Place could give, and since this is a donation and not for sale I figured General would work best.
I've got 3 CDMA HTC Hero's that were from an MVNO *Mitel - Sprint Backbone*. We've recently switched over 65 devices to the newer yet still crappy-ish HTC Detail (Read - HTC Evo 4G without any support and running stock 2.2). Of those 65 original Hero phones I was able to get my supervisors to 'ok' a donation to any developers who may want a new test device.
These phones are old, slow, and no longer being updated by any carrier, but they work, have good ESN's and are great for any developer who wants to test their applications on slower hardware with a smaller screen (for cross compatibility?).
My reason for thinking someone would want this is, if it runs on a old Hero, it'll run on pretty much anything.
So how do you get one should the demand be more than the three I'm posting, well the first 3 will be offered for free, including shipping. Those who read and reply the quickest become the lucky ones. I might be able to sale the others if there is a demand, however we will have to work this out in the "Market Place" should I get the go ahead for that as well.
One Per Person (Location). Sorry but only ship to Lower-48 in the US (No international shipping).
if your offer still stands i would be of help with creating apps that are suitable for the device
my location is Malta
If its still possible to get one, id like one for some testing im from denmark
this is one hell of an offer, if you'd like to sponsor a college student i'm currently studying deving and the emulators are just so fking slow =.=
If you three could send me a PM with a ship to address I'll have them out asap
Thanks XDA for making the community great!
I like this. Have a thanks
many, many thanks!
A huge sorry to International viewers, but shipping outside of the US is a lot more than what I was told by our shipping department. We were given the OK for up to $40US (which was their estimate), however the costs far exceed this (by more than double). I'm upset with the fact that I promised these devices and am unable to deliver them to you.
If you'd like to pay for shipping I've sent a PM with an estimate of cost. However the cost of the device is 1/15th the cost of the shipping and I highly recommend that you do not.
That said I still have two devices for anyone in the lower-48 States of USA.
Zothes I've sent you a PM with Tracking information for your device.
I personally apologize to Archer and Deaimian.
If one is still up for grabs, I'd love to get one.
I'm in Illinois. Can send you a pm with my address whenever you'd like!

Geekbuying.com - Buyer Beware iMito QX1

Hi There,
I'd like to share my experience buying an iMito QX1 from Geekbuying.com - not for the sake of flaming, but really to help fellow community members avoid lost money and unnecessary heartache.
I purchased the item in June - and have yet to see a refund for a defective product.
It took forever to arrive - and upon arrival was basically DOA. It worked very briefly, in which time I couldn't find sufficient information online to try and flash the new firmware to get it to work properly (the Geekbuying forum information is very minimal, to say the least, and the response rate is very slow), and upon pulling out to try and refresh and reconnect, it stopped working entirely. I connected it to numerous tvs and devices, to no avail - signal has been lost.
This is a known issue that many people have posted about - and Geekbuying.com have completely ignored. See these threads:
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?2539-imito-mx1-no-signal-to-tv
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?4053-Imito-MX2-black-screen
http://www.freaktab.com/showthread.php?3447-Imito-MX1-doesn-t-work-gt-Black-Screen-No-signal
After reaching out to Geekbuying and explaining everything - and everything we tried technically - they initially were willing (supposedly) to provide a refund or alternate device (we asked for a refund), and asked us to fill out forms that they never provided us with, and since then have been stalling, evading, and unhelpful.
Below is the chat I had with their operator today, where they once again have evaded and chosen to be unhelpful:
Please wait for a site operator to respond...

I am sharing my experience, in order to ensure others don't go through the same, and to share my experience purchasing the iMito QX1 - which on paper is supposed to be an awesome device, but falls short in execution.
Good luck.
Thank you for posting this. I hope your post will help others to be aware too. But I have to tell you for every post you find like this and believe me there are many. You will also find many post on other forums that will defend this company and have complete lack of empathy. If you read those threads you will find as I have. They are generally from people who have a certain (ahem, cough) relationship with them. It sickens me to say the least. BTW, its not just the device you purchased either. I try to let people know that a lot of these divides can all so be purchased through Amazon. I am not promoting Amazon. I am just saying if something does go wrong. You have a much better chance of a fair outcome. Sorry to here of your episode. You were more than fair with them. I will not be surprised if there is a reply in their defense. Then again, maybe not here. But, try a certain f****tab forum and you will see what I mean. Good luck.

Thanks for the support - I'm sure you're right - I just hope that the sincerity comes through and that if someone who is looking to purchase an item from them and sees this post at some point, may possibly reconsider.
I never do things like this and if it were a small amount I'd likely just forget about it, but it's a $90 product.

No, I don't know anyone there. I'll try that - thanks. (Is there any specific way I can reach out to him? Is he on XDA? Facebook? There's a general email address at geekbuying, and I'm not sure how I can get him specifically to deal with my issue).
Register over there then private message geekbuying member hope this helps

Amazing such issue's were had.
I also bought my QX1 from Geekbuying however I ordered via Amazon (bundle pack with external antenna & Cat 5 USB adaptor)..
My order was received 4 days later (via USPS).
The unit works great & still no issue's on my end with my unit.
Also bought an airmouse from them (via Amazon again) & received that the day before last (2 days after order)..
Long of the short of all of this is I wouldn't put such hate towards one posting that's seen..
As I've had no issue's on my end once so ever..
Just stating my $0.03....
Shame about the issue's though as the QX1 really is I nice little device (however deva support is still very limited)..
My experience with imito qx1 is also positive. Bought it on geekbuying.com and was aware that shipping last LONG. Got it and it works like a charm. Had same issues in the beginning but flashed it with Finless 1.5 ROM form freaktab.com and it works great. That was a good decision.
I was able to RMA my CX-919 to geekbuying for just return shipping $8.
They asked for a youtube video of it not working!
Took two months but the new device works great.

[Q] Should I be buying this little guy?

Hello everybody,
I have an unusual problem - I was given money...
To be exact, my company awarded me with around $800 gift voucher for amazon.com. The only problem is I live in Europe, Poland to be exact. And since it is a pain in the ... head to bother with spending all of it for small time shopping (all the shipment hassle and such). So I thought I might replace my current android device with Sony Xperia Z3. A quick search on amazon reveals a few options:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Unlocked-Warranty-without-contract/dp/B00NQC88IU/
this one seems to be most promising.
Now, can anyone advise me on this choice? As it's a GSM phone i get it will work in Poland, maybe with limited LTE capabilities but that is ok for me. What about anything else I might not be aware of? Is there any other potential problem regarded to moving phone to other part of the world?
Also, can anyone help me guess, what sort of guaranty does the item description mention? The seller was not very specific about it, which raise a bit of a concern by the way...
Anyway, I would appreciate any guidance on my crazy idea on buying this specific phone, what do you think?
The seller is Sony themselves lol... The Z3 is a great device. Do note that if you are someone who loves to root your android phone, this might not be the phone for you. In order to root the phone, you will have to unlock the bootloader which will cause the DRM keys to be lost forever. This will cause the camera to be very bad in low light especially and other features to be lost forever, even after u unroot.

Hmm, here is how it looks from where I sit, the seller in lower circle, and sony mentioned as manufacturer... I think Amazon is a confusing place compared to ebay or our local shopping websites. If it was really Sony who sold this particular phone, I wouldn't be afraid to get it.
Anyhow, your information about rooting of Xperia Z3 is very useful... Thank you for this valuable piece of knowledge.

The seller shld be Sony themselves. Sony relies on manufacturers to make their phone and that OE USA is most probably the manufacturer for the z3. So i wouldnt worry abt it too much. U can ask for a refund if the z3 turns out bad.

Pretty sh**ty Google....this is how you lose core followers.

Last night I was using Yelp on my Pixel and it rebooted randomly, now the only other time it has done this was on one of those ad filled mobile news sites that usually crash any phone due to some kind of bad code on the page, even then that's rare. So after it rebooted it immediately went to the bootloader screen, which was weird to me because I had yet to try any rooting or unlocking yet. I tried all the different options it gives you, reboot to bootloader, recovery, start...none of which worked and just always brought me back to the same screen.
So this morning I called Google support and they tried a few steps, then asked me if I wanted to process a warranty replacement. Obviously I said sure (this wasn't my first rodeo of needing a warranty replacement, I had a Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 and anyone else who has knows that Google was very lenient with replacements and usually did overnight shipping), then she said it will be 5 to 7 business days to my surprise. I asked why isn't it expedited shipping since its not my fault and I would be inconvenienced, she said expedited shipping will cost me. I could tell I wasn't getting anywhere with her so I asked to speak to a manager. I'm now waiting on a call back, but I am expecting to impose my will on this manager to get free expedited shipping. However, if they refuse I'll be starting an online smear campaign to make Pixel owners aware of this so Google understands how bad this looks as it relates to customer service.
What's really weird is I have seen a few articles about how much Google makes from ads and other revenue streams and how they are not really reliant on Pixel sales, yet around every corner I can see them cost-cutting and increasing profit margins. Waterproofing, stereo speakers, higher price and now trying to cut expedited warranty replacements?? Wow Google. I've had my phone less than 30 days and definitely having second thoughts now.
Probably a new or nervous cs rep, they usually go the amazon way and say yes to reasonable requests. Or it could it be a new policy on software related problems.
Before you go in a tirade, why not wait until the manager gives you a call back? Or place another call to them. If you calmly explain your situation I'm sure you can get a replacement in short order. Besides the fact, an online smear campaign will only make you look foolish and self centered. We already have enough of them with the likes of 'new year, new rant' and crap like that. You are justifiably upset, I'm sure this will be resolved to your liking. Calm down, take a walk, do something else other than focus on one phone call that didn't go so well.
Hey,
pretty much the same experience in my support case (the loose vibration motor). Google just doesn't us loyal users as important for them. I also got very harsh comments on my neutral support questions. Good customer support or thanking your loyal customers for their support of the brand is obviously not Googles target.
I'm not shure whether i will stay on the Google train in the next time.
Regards
Dude... They will send you a link to place an order for your rma and you can choose which shipping method you prefer... It will "charge" you for expedited but once you send your phone back to them they will refund you the full amount.
Alex from Google support is the real MVP....

Hi Aaron!

Aaron Thomas
11:28 AM
Not good at all. Google is giving me the worst first 30 day experience I've had with a smartphone.
Alex
11:29 AM

Aaron Thomas

Yes, a replacement order SHOULD have been submitted this morning. However, Google seems to maximizing its profits by cutting out customer service priorities like overnight shipping for warranty replacements.
Aaron Thomas
11:32 AM
Things like this are a sure way to lose customers as I am making multiple communities aware of this decision right now.
Alex
11:33 AM
I am very sorry for the trouble. I certainly understand your concern, and will be happy to look in to this. I can certainly relate to your situation, and would be happy to check for the available options.
Aaron Thomas
11:33 AM
Okay.
Alex
11:34 AM
I noticed that the RMA has not been created yet for the device. Let me explain how the replacement works, and what options we have.
Alex
11:35 AM
Once we process replacement for you, we will send you a link which you need to place the order. While ordering the device, select the fastest shipping method available on this page. The total amount including the shipping charges will be kept as authorization hold, and will be released as soon as we get the faulty unit at out warehouse. You won't be charged for selecting the fastest shipping method. Moreover, we would be sending your return labels, and you won't be charged sending the faulty unit.
Alex
11:37 AM
The other option would be to send the faulty device first, and the we would ship the replacement unit. This process take little longer than the previous option, and there will be no authorization hold.
Aaron Thomas
11:37 AM
Is there any reason why the support agent by the name "Leny" did not explain this the way you did? She said a replacement can be submitted with 5 to 7 day shipping (over the phone) and if I wanted faster shipping I would be charged for it.
Alex
11:39 AM
I am sorry for the miscommunication. However, as I mentioned, I would get best available options for you. I do not want you to face any further trouble.
Alex
11:39 AM
I am taking complete ownership for this, and will be with you to make this process very simple.
