RCA Galileo 11.5 Pro Connectivity - General Questions and Answers

I recently purchased this tablet from Walmart. It was appealing because it was cheap and looked to have everything I needed in a cheap tablet. I have not however been able to get my laptop to recognize the tablet when plugging it into the computer. It has two ports, a full size USB and micro USB, on it but neither work with the laptop.
The full size USB does nothing when plugged in. It does not recognize it at all. The micro USB does recognize but says the device isn't recognized and it will not give me options to update drivers and comes up short when troubleshooting. With RCA's outstanding customer service I have gotten nothing but silence. I really like the tablet but I am a bit frustrated with the inability to load my files on it.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
Thanks,
Keaton

You didn't say what Windoze you are using. The first thing I normally try is to install PDANET. I don't even know what PDANET is for, but it has a LOT of drivers, and normally fixes issues I have connecting strange phones and tablets. Just go here http://pdanet.co/ and use the download for Windoze button. This link also seems like my solution: http://joyofandroid.com/how-to-install-usb-driver-for-android
Good luck. Android access from windows is more or less a crap shoot, but it can usually be made to work.

[Q] usb device not recognized?

Hopefully a simple fix.. When i plug my unlocked captivate in my computer reads usb device not reognized? So then i went thru to try and format this brand new card and it wont let me select format? Im not sure what to do and am stumped. an help would be appreciated
try a different cable. for some reason mine gets recognized about once out of 50 tries with the cable that came with the phone but when i use a different one it works every time.
tried 2.. no change.. more info.. when i plug the usb in.. it says select usb mode..kies, media player, mass storage or pc internet.none seem to make a difference. but it does seem to let me format the card and does make it appear available in the sd card and phone storage?? its very confusing..
I ran into a similar problem 2 days ago. My phone was fine for 30 days and then all of a sudden the usb port crapped out on the phone. I had tried multiple pc's, my mac which doesnt require drivers and then a trip to the AT&T store. Those idiots were a waste of my time but tried to connect it to a box for sucking down phone numbers and it wouldn't connect to to the phone either. I am not sure if its a problem from a rom I installed but sorry to say they are sending me a replacement phone tomorrow.
I wouldnt have belived it but a co-worker said try a different usb plug on my computer.. Im glad it fixed it.. a little humbled but im posting just because it may happen to someone else. Whats weird is the usb port works with every other device?? strange but true story thanks for the responses...
yeah none of my usb ports in front of the comp worked, tried back usb ports and had no issue, also keep in my i had drivers installed before hand.
win 7 x64
all of a sudden i cant get my PC to see my captivate, at all. So now I cant do Odin! tried all the ports and also another computer. Ideas anyone?

Captivate Cant Connect with USB

I've looked everywhere and cant seem to find an answer, so i figured i'd start a new thread.
My captivate used to connect to my computer just fine, but there was another computer it would just NOT connect too! Well, after a few months, it stopped connecting to my home computer as well.
I have USB debugging on, the phone is rooted and everything. When I plug it in and mount the USB drives, i get drives J and K on my computer, one for the internal storage, and one for the SD card i have in the phone.
When double clicking any of those drives, it just sits there and reads forever without ever doing anything. I can use the SDK to run "adb devices" and it see's the phone, Odin One Click finds the phone but freezes on reading file line, or just fails all together.
Any ideas?
Try reinstalling the samsung usb drivers and restart your computer, that'd be my first step.

You have to be on the touch wiz home screen if you're trying to connect to Kies, otherwise turn on USB debugging and you should be good to go

SeenNotScene: I've uninstalled, rebooted, re-installed several times. I've been having this problem for a couple months now and i've tried everything i can think of. It doesnt work
bkhams: I dont even know what Kies is? I always have USB debugging turned on, and once connected i bring down the drop down menu and mount the USB so i can access my phones files as if they were another drive.
I had the same problem, and Samsung peeps told me I had to use the USB cable that came with the phone, low and behold they were right. Connected right away with the USB that came with the phone, could that be your problem?
I had the same problem in the past and it was actually a hardware problem with the Captivate and not anything with the computer. I ended up taking the phone in and they exchanged it for me.
I do not know if yours could be having the same problem, but that was my experience. Frustrating, to say the least.
Hmm... Could be the hardware i guess.. I know its not the cable though because i've only ever used the cable that came with it.
Have you tried connecting to the USB port directly off the motherboard? My connections were "sketchy" at best when using the ports of the top of the computer case. Once I connected directly off the MOBO, zero problems since.
Sloved!

Thank you for suggestions! My front USB connector is probably connected to some internal HUB, not going straight to the motherboard and wont work. Connecting directly to MB USB solve the problem. I am a little bit surprised... but whatever - M$ bull*hits. I spend couple of hours yesterday to find out whats going on. Thank you again!

[]The USB connection issue should be caused by lack of power supply

After 2 days of struggling about the USB connection issue, I think maybe I've found the reason... Just write something here so that someone may see this in the future when searching around...
CONCLUSION FIRST:
It's caused by lack of power supply of the USB ports
If you believe me, you can skip the part below and try use a USB port in the back of a desktop and tell me if I'm right
Just leave me some feed back...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
So here's how I found it...
My observations:
1.Cannot connect to my 2 laptops in all modes and with all drivers I can find, showing "Device not recognized""your device is malfunctioning".
2.If I pull out and back the cable several times, it may recognize at some times. This connection may last for only 1 sec or several minutes, but won't be long and stable since I always stuck in the middle of large file transferring.
3.The e-sata/usb combo port worked better than the other two in the left side.
If it's the problem of driver, then with some of the drivers, it may work better. however, nothing makes a different.
If it's because of system, I have XP on my old one, and Win7 x64 on the new envy 14, and the result is exactly the same
so the observation #2 made me believe that maybe it's a hardware issue, either my phone or my cable is broken. what excluded the phone is that I got a replacement yesterday and the replacement doesn't make a difference. So the only thing left is the cable.
So I brought my phone to the school PC center and used the desktops there. still not recognized when i plug it in one of the usb ports on the front. So I crewed on the desk and finally reached a port in the back, and bang!
It recognized in 2 sec.
So i pull the cable out and connect again.
still 2 sec.
try transfer a large folder to it. lasted 5 mins, finished smoothly.
So I went upstairs to another desktop there.
Exactly the same result!
and both of the two desktops don't have any drivers installed beforehand.
---------------------------------------------------
So now I believe that if you only need to use mass storage, no driver is needed. windows will automatically install an universal usb driver for it and it should work.
All the drivers are ment to get connection in Kies/ADB/downloadmode.
And the reason why some guys never get connection issue may simply because their computer are designed to give more power to the usb ports.
As for my envy 14, all the usb ports i can reach come from a usb hub inside, which has 6 ports connected to. and 3 of them are already used by internal bluetooth chip and etc..
Also...some phones may need less power to activate the storage chip...
So just tell me if I'm right~~~leave your comments here...
This could be possible. I've used devices in the past that would act up randomly before I moved the usb ports around. You could try to use a double head usb and connect that into your phone to confirm your theory. But really, as long as you got it working, good for you.
Samsung Captivate
Firefly 2.0.5
SpeedMod Q Big Mem
JK4 Modem
Interesting theory. I had an old HP Laptop from '05 I used with three usb ports, and the number of usable/recognizable eventually turned into one. I just thought my laptop was acting crazy with windows 7 and drivers... because I now have a tower pc and the connection is solid. I do use a port on the top though, although it's never given me any issues. So...moral of the story is... this phone's usb is kinda funky.
And if you're a n00b and reading this, if your computer EVER says "device cannot be recognized", etc... BEWARE OF USING ODIN3 on this PC! I had a similar mishap right as it was flashing on sbl.bin... I am lucky that I don't have a Super Amoled paper weight.
Yes that's what I'm gonna try~ need to buy one online though, may bring the result back in couple of days.
Motherboard
Always go directly to the motherboard for a hot USB port
I believe that many of the FAQ/Bible threads mentioned using a rear USB port many months ago.

[Q] MacBook (Air and Pro) kills USB File Transfer on my Note Pro 12.2

QUESTION: is there anyone else using a Note 12.2 with an rMBP or MacBook Air, (or any 2012-or newer model Apple MacBook) and the USB connection is fine?
I have a strange issue with my 12.2- I'm trying to get some insight if it's just mine, or can anyone else confirm this one way or another?
When I attach via USB to my 12.2 ONLY on an Apple MacBook (I can replicate it either with my 15" rMBP running Mavericks or a 13" Air running Mountain Lion) the MacBooks completely disable USB file transfer on the device- as in for good, including with any other USB connection on any other computer- until I do a factory reset.
File Transfer works perfectly on all of my PC's running Windows, and on a Hackintosh running Mavericks and my genuine MacPro running Mountain Lion.
It's only the MacBooks that kill the USB connection every time. After it happens, no other device will connect via USB.
It's not a driver issue or anything else- my MacBooks connect perfectly to my Galaxy S3, Note 2 and Note 3 using Android File Transfer. (And other non-Samsung Android devices I own). But the 12.2's connection dies every time, until a factory reset.
I'm thinking this is probably just an issue with my tablet, but would be nice to have some insight before I return it for a replacement. Also I want to make sure I don't just get the same problem happening again, if it's somehow a Apple/MacBook problem not the Note Pro.
Anyone have any ideas why just the MacBook USB ports (and two different OS's) would kill the Galaxy Note Pro? Like maybe they use a different type of USB 3.0 connection or something?
Update: I was exploring the limitations of this issue- it only happens with the original dual Samsung USB 3.0 cable and the MacBooks. A standard microUSB cable and it connects fine and doesn't kill the USB connection.
Again, same Samsung USB 3.0 cable and any other device, no problem. Weird problem.
I also could not use the stock USB 3.0 cable on my rMBP.
I'm guessing it's a USB 3.0 driver issue since even through a VMW Fusion virtual machine I could not get a good connection.
Thanks for the advice on the use of a USB 2.0 cable. It's not as fast obviously but works in a pinch.

This has to be a hardware issue with the Note Pro.
Do you get the same problem? That connecting to your Macbook completely disables USB connections until you do a factory reset? (I'd love to know if there's a better way to fix the USB connectivity other than a factory reset. Nothing in the developer options does it that I know of.)
For now I think I'm still going to exchange for another and see if it's just a glitch with mine that the USB connection is completely killed. If it's true of all Note Pros then it's something Samsung needs to fix.
Not sure what you mean by completely disabling USB connections.
Host mode for external devices? I haven't done that with the tab yet since I don't have an adapter for it.
Or are you talking about only having one shot at connecting the tablet to my rMBP? I'd say no, I can plug and unplug repeatedly to my heart's content using a standard microUSB cable and copy files to/from the device without rebooting let alone factory resetting it.

Ah so clearly this is just my tablet.
Yes, I mean I get one shot to plug into either Macbook (using the Samsung USB 3 cable) and thereafter no USB transfer connection of any sort is possible. The tablet simply doesn't show up on anything. Not even with the standard micro USB cable, and not with any other computer. I have to do a reset to get USB transfer back. If I use the Samsung cable (or the same cable from my Note 3 so it's not the cable itself) with any other computer I own other than the MacBooks, everything is fine. Standard micro USB with anything including MacBooks is fine.
If I'm understanding you right, your tablet won't connect via the Samsung cable to your Macbook but at least it doesn't completely kill the USB transfer just by connecting it.
Any rate I'm taking it back in the morning, and bringing my rMBP to check how the replacement works.
Yep, just the stock cable that came with it doesnt work with my rMBP. At no time have I needed to do a factory reset.
I'm not on Mavericks yet, if that makes any difference or not I don't know.
Good idea to bring the computer in.
Good luck!
The Note Pro 12.2 doesn't connect well with my 15" Retina MacBook Pro either via USB 3.0 cable. The tablet says "connected via USB 3.0" but Android File Transfer (what a piece of junk) doesn't see it. I haven't had to factory reset (which means wipe out) the tablet though. At worst, a reboot gets the tablet working with a USB 2.0 cable. With both 3.0 and 2.0 cable, the tablet shows the "x" through the battery indicating the Mac isn't outputting enough juice to charge, even over USB 3.0. Using a USB hub in general works better than direct connection to the Mac.
Thanks pdagal. Does seem to be an issue with Macs and USB 3.0. An older MacPro with USB 2.0 works fine.
Took mine in and exchanged it this morning at Best Buy. The complete disabling of USB transfer was a unique bug. New Note Pro behaves like you describe- doesn't connect to MacBook via original USB 3 cable, but at least a reboot restores USB transfer function afterwards without a factory reset.
I hope a firmware upgrade will fix this entirely.
I cant comment on the Note pro 12.2 but my note 3 i tend to use OTG cable and a thumb drive to push large files or use drop box. I could never really get android file transfer to even work consistently with my Nexus 10 running Mountain lion or mavericks on different macs.

Do you have Samsung Kies installed? If so it kills AFT until it's completely removed using the uninstaller.
Otherwise I'm surprised people have issues with AFT. It's always worked flawlessly for me on every Mac and Hackintosh I use. Even this issue wasn't an AFT problem at all.

no never did have kies. I have owned Macs and Androids since the G1 and Nexus One and have never much had luck with AFT. I could get it to work every now and then but once i figured out a thumb drive and a OTG usb cable its been just easier to throw files on a thumb drive. But I dont move alot of files around unless its setting up a new phone. Now with my Nexus 10 I use the thumb drive to keep abunch of movies on it so i dont have to worry about space and i have stuff to watch while traveling. Speaking of Hackintosh AFT worked flawlessly on my wifes old dell netbook that I did the hackintosh on.

A new kind of brick

I have a SCH-I915 (Verizon) which is not recognized by any machine that it gets plugged into. There's no unknown device, no beep of a usb connection, it does beep like a charger has been connected (and gets the red x on the battery icon, indicating the amperage is insufficient), but the PC doesn't recognize there's an interactive device on the other end. I have spent 3 days combing the forums. I can assure everyone, it is NOT a driver issue. For one thing, the same laptop that flashed the wrong firmware and unlocked the bootloader is among those who can't see it. It also isn't visible to the best buy samsung rep or he'd have flashed it for me. I've also used anycut to manually select mass storage or samsung kies. Neither work. After reading many, many MANY posts on devices not being recognized, it seemed to me the ultimate fix for most of the people with these symptoms was a new cable. I just bought a cable and it's the same. The original does me no good, neither does the new one (which is an insignia from best buy). The maddening thng is, it was working FINE (apart from being unusable...but it was able to be connected to any way you like) just a few days ago. It was the factory reset from within the 4.1.2 OS that seems to have changed something. My idea (which may be entirely off base, since I don't actually know the USB protocols is, the tablet gets plugged in and either is supposed to say "I'm here" or the PC asks "who are you?" After that would be steps on establishing what device it is, etc... I think this initial handshake is what's broken. The PC thinks it's got a usb fan or whatever, the tablet thinks it's connected to a crappy charger.
So I've got a couple questions
1) Do they make charging cables which are distinct from the data transfer cables?
2) Has anyone used one of these insignia cables? Was it fine for you?
3) Is there any other nuclear option I can deploy myself? I don't have much faith in those best buy guys. (On a side note, I was allowed to use the guy's laptop to try and get it to work and if I had had a thumb drive, I'd have all the cool imaging software they have...but it was not to be.)
Does it shows up when connected in recovery or download mode?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
No it doesn't
No matter the computer I'm attaching to, nor whether it's in download, recovery, or fully up, the connection appears to only be seen by one side.
