We reported this during the beta testing and it was ignored

I did clear cache of nova launcher, and since yesterday it is working normal
I think that's not a bug, it's power save function, same happens in stock dialer, stock sms app and Gmail
When it cant be control by user in a normal on/off way, then its a bug
I have a same problem with Chrome and SMS stock app.
VIDEO on YouTube
The auto-dimming in email and Chrome happened for me in EMUI 4 and now 5.
I was told that it is a power-saving feature and cannot be turned off.

Hi, occurs this problem on to the build 380? Thanks.
Same problem here. Battery saver is off, auto brightness is off too. Any workarounds or word from Huawei?
This happens on all mobiles with emui 5
Mate 8, honor 8, Huawei p9, nova...

Really stupid bug that shows how poor emui developers are. Still in latest chinese developer rom, no sign that developers are even aware of the problem. Don't know how so few little people are reporting this, must be blind.
It should only happen when power saving mode is enabled like it did in older emui.
It causes so many problems. I have screen set to my preferred brightness then it dims so much when I open browser that I have to increase brightness every time. The only work around is to use 100% brightness all the time, then it does not dim the screen but this just a stupid waste of battery and bad for your eyes indoors.
---------- Post added at 06:19 PM ---------- Previous post was at 06:17 PM ----------
It's not just email and chrome either. It's any web browser, nearly all system apps and a small few other third party apps.
Another issue that may not be a bug is when watching a movie the screen contrast increase dramatically and causes crushed blacks, does not happen on honor 7 with emui 4.

Hello guys, after the installation of Nougat I got this problem, and as i can see other people share it. When I open chrome, sms, dialer, gmail, even if there is not power saving on, i can see a brightness drop on the display, but only in these apps. When i close them, brightness restores. I reported this as a bug to honor assistance. What do you think?

Hey these are just a few things that i have found that are not completely broken but annoying enough to talk about.
First one is on some apps I am getting double notifications. Not that there are 2 of the same notifications in the tray but i get 2 sound alerts and too vibrate alerts. Not every app is doing this though which leads me to believe it may be an app optimization issue. This also get translated to android wear btw.
Second is voice dictation in the Stock google keyboard. Sometimes it will fail and other times it will be fine. random issue so no really way to lock down the cause.
Third is camera sluggishness all around. Double tapping the power button is slower than it has been and in the app changing modes or viewing pictures is also a slight issue.
Anyone else have these issues?
Having the same issue with the voice dictation in Gboard. It turns on and shuts off immediately.

Have you tried 1) deleting cache, 2) toggling notification on/off in app, 3) clearing app data, and/or 4) uninstalling/reinstalling app? I would try these things in the stated order and observe the app behavior each time. Let us know how things turn out. Thanks.

I'm seeing the same on my Px and Px XL. Twitter and Slack. Clearly, the issue is app-specific. I tried all of the above but no joy. I have noticed that if the phone is not asleep, then there is no double sound. This may support your theory of app optimization. I will next try uninstalling/reinstalling the app to see if it makes a difference.
Hmm I may check this myself about the sleep issue

I am having the same double notification issues as well. Same apps, Twitter particularly. I also used the OTA directly from the August 7.1.2. In addition my battery drain has been ridiculous today. I attempted to clear cache for all apps only to find that Google has removed that control from both the OS settings as well as via stock Recovery. That's right, you can no longer format the /cache partition. I wish they'd at least moved it into Developer options instead of removing it entirely.
I've manually cleared Google Play services data and cache for several apps showing high battery usage in the new battery settings. I've also limited background usage for apps like Facebook, Snapchat, etc.
I've uninstalled/reinstalled Twitter with the hope that the app will register under O [perhaps properly] and resolve the issue. No joy. I would seem that the app devs for Twitter, Slack, Tapatalk, etc. will need to fix the code to work under O. I recently saw another app updated with "Fixed Android O notifications" in the change log.
Relatedly, I have a custom ringtone set with Twitter, but the double tone I hear is the phone's default tone. I have not been able to get the custom-selected tone to play. Something else for Twitter to fix.

For wiping cache, if you are rooted or bootloader unlocked, you can use Flashfire or boot to TWRP.
My battery life on O (observed on two Pixels) is definitely not as good as N.
Weird. Battery life for me is incredibly better. I mean like.. Is there a reporting problem? How can this be so much better? Only one day in but I'm liking what I see.

For the double notification sound, my workaround is to use Lightflow. I already had it for other purposes, so I set the native app [e.g., Twitter] for no sound and set LF to make the sound. All is good.

I meant is the battery indicator reporting it wrong. I was being facetious but I have not noticed any unusual battery drain. On N when I used Strava and gps for 3 hours or so I'd end up with about 55% left and then plug in for a quick charge. On O I wound up with 67% left which was pretty good. After a few days I think there are some things that are better but overall about the same as N.
I've had it today where the screen on time in the battery stats is stuck. So it's been reading 1hr 15min screen on time regardless of how much I use it... Something is a bit off with battery reporting it seems
Regarding the double sound, this is what I have discovered:
1) Go to Twitter app and set the notification for no sound
2) Go to settings/apps/Twitter, select notifications. You will see a bunch of granular notification settings. Once I made the desired setting there, no more double sounds and the tone is what I desired.

If you do not mind sharing, how you restore all your apps data and phone settings in 10-15 mins?
I have had several issues with the final O release. I updated OTA straight from beta and even factory reset without restoring data and apps.
Definitely having the Gboard microphone issue.
Was also having a lot of wifi connectivity issues. The phone would randomly not connect to several wifi networks and started dropping wifi once connected alot.
Battery life is also atrocious especially when navigating. I used maps for 20 minutes with the screen off and had nearly a 20% drain.
I contacted project fi and received a replacement device which I'm going to keep at 7.1.2 for the time being.
Incidentally the beta worked perfectly nearly for months. All this started after the final OTA to the production release.
I know this is a common problem, but there are so many discussions about different bugs and builds and so much misinformation, i had to start a new discussion. I'm using EMUI 5.0 Android 7.0 b389.
EMUI kills power consuming background apps by default after about 10 minutes. Doesnt matter if the screen is locked or not.
The setting 'Close excessively power-intensive apps' does nothing, it makes absolutely no difference. 'Power-intensive app history' and 'History of closed apps' are empty. But when I use the tool 'Battery -> Optimize' it still shows: 'x power consuming background apps closed', and the services gets killed. I suspect EMUI performs this optimization by default from time to time.
Could somebody with a similar behaviour try the Optimze feature and see, if you can replicate the results? I've tried every possible setting and by now I'm pretty sure, this is a bug.
Second question: Who solved a similar problem by rooting the device and either:
a) Putting the service (for me it is Whatsapp) in the system app folder
b) Disabling the Phone Manager. Here im wondering, if there are negative consequences doing this. Like settings disappearing (e.g in the Battery menu) or faulty RAM management or whatever.
Nobody has Problems with notifications or background processes anymore on EMUI 5.0? A response if everything works fine, like Whatsapp notifications, would be great too. Maybe I have a faulty device.

It's turned off, but the app is killed even when the screen stays on, so thats not the problem. Whatsapp is installed fresh. I even did a factory reset and just installed Whatsapp, but the problem remains.
Would you mind trying something for me, to go under:
settings -> battery -> optimize
And see if it says something like "1 power consuming background app closed.
If it doesnt say that, then you should see a green checkmark.
Also is your whatsapp power consumption high? Mine is at 28 mAh right now for the last hour, and EMUI seems to decide, thats too much.

Thanks for trying that. That means, your phone has also recognized these background apps as power-consuming. But the difference ist, thats what happens to my phone every 10 minutes. Maybe my device is faulty for real.
Ive tried every possible setting, factory resets and new installations. Ive even disabled Power Genie and Phone Manager over adb. Nothing works. Man, this just sucks.

How about a thread in which all the official beta testers can log their findings(bugs), So that all others can verify.
Here are few of my findings.
1. Unable to install few apps from Play-store [Probably because device is registered with a different name] Existing apps are updating as normal
2. Scroll delay is still there
3. Email app such as Outlook not rendering emails even after cache delete and reinstall :/
4. Few lags, its not faster than nougat
5. Fast boot up but with few hiccups on the password screen
Cant say anything about camera because i hardly use it. Overall the beta update is good. :good:
For me, no lags anymore, a lot faster than 7.0
Can confirm apps like antuntu, cpu-z won't install with error 501. Other then that, I looks very promising. ?

I don't know what other people have an understanding of the scroll delay but ......
Open settings/browser then tap and hold and SLOWLY move up or down. Scrolling starts somewhat after 3-5mm of your finger movement.
If this is not the scrolling delay then this phone never had it in the first place :/
[PS] No one scroll this slow so can't be considered a scroll delay

Had the same problem with Aquamail - it's a Chrome start-up settings issue... Found the solution in another thread:
Go to Chrome app info in Android settings and check if under battery start the option is set to "Auto" or "manually on" for at least secondary start... (I have a German phone, so I'm not if the naming is maybe a little different for you...)
Should work then.

what about camera improvements ? thx
Only bug I've noticed is screen dimming issue which I haven't experienced on B150..
Hi guys,
after receving B180 as pre-beta build, from some days I'm on the beta itself and encountered some problems:
- some strings not translated (in chinese) in the Warranty screen in the HiCare app
- notifications "...app are executed in background" non-dismissable
- system slowness when reactivang it under charge with fingerprint (worst of all 'til now)
- sometimes the whole system became unresponsive and freeze itself for some seconds
- screen auto-dimming even if automatic brightness is not selected (this may be only my impression, we'll see)
Will check again if they appear and will send feedback asap to the Honor team via the Beta app.
See ya around!

Yeah it does happen sometimes
It does happen to me every time swiping down.
Another bug i had yesterday was Google assistant starting by itself when the phone was on the table with activated display and not even touched.
Going directly from the camera to the recent photo causes a serious lag (like 3s) for me. Could not remember it that bad before Oreo.

I'm getting the same thing, mostly when playing a game. Will flash for a split second. Not sure what's causing it.
I don't think it's a virus tho.
Maybe its problem with system or launcher? I haven't found anything like that on internet or how to slove this
Mine is doing the same thing as well. I think at least for me it's because my RAM is getting close to making out.
Same problem
I have the same problem. Has anyone got any hints at least? It's very annoying and no other phone seems to have it.

I'm having the same issue. Screen goes kinda white for half a second and looks as it would start an app, but then goes back to what app you just had opened.
It is not a constant flickering or flashing, as reported from Samsung and other Devices and which is documented via Videos on the Net.
It would be hard to film it, as I haven't been able to reproduce thus behaviour.
When I play a game (King of Avalon) and when I'm just typing and that issue occurs, the typed text is gone. Luckily it doesn't happen while typing on WhatsApp or other apps with text features.
A while back it was almost gone, but then came back, without me having changed the app Setup.
I will reset the phone and see, if it comes back.
I still think it's an issue brought up from apps that use the GPU a lot.
Have tried different settings the Developer Options from Android (Disable HW-Overlay,...) but it didn't help.
Will report, once I have resetted, but will take a while, until I have time for testing.

Hey, I also had this problem, it helped me change the language in voice search to English and turn off "ok google". I use the phone in a different language and I also had it in voice search.
Hello fellow HTC u11 life friends -
I found this thread by Googling, so hopefully others will find it too. I have also been having this very annoying problem for several weeks. Can't remember when exactly it started. Was it after an Android update?
This problem appears to be related to the Google app settings on the phone, as the previous poster suggested. When I read his post, I went to the Google app settings (Setting --> Apps --> Google) and didn't see anything out of the ordinary, but I noticed that there is a setting called Display over other apps. This was set to "yes" by default, so I changed it to "no". Since I made this change yesterday, I have not had the white screen flash once.
It seems like the Google app is being triggered briefly for whatever reason and then closing. By not allowing the app to display over others, if the app is triggered, you won't get that brief white screen like the app is about to open. At least, that's what I think. Fingers crossed the fix holds. I hope this works for others. Let me know!

Before I call you a genius, I still have to wait a bit (and of course hoping)
I just turned off different things in the Google App "show notification for ***"
In this case *** was for Price Alert, stocks alert, sports alert and so on.
Furthermore I disabled the "display over other Apps" as well.
I could imagine that this latter feature doesn't have to be turned off completely, rather than turning off all those useless alerts for stuff I've never even looked for.
Will try to go the next days to see, if that blinking is gone and if soy trying to activate the feature with almost no alerts in order to determine, what the exact culprit is.
Disabling the feature totally might do it, but if for example some alerts were useful, then it would be nice, if at least they worked out as supposed to.
Will keep you guys posted.
Fingers crossed ^^

Hi, after google update flashing comback, so i disable "OK Google enrollment" in applications system and it helped. Maybe you can just turn off the notifications, i dont know, you can try

Hey, I also had this problem, it helped me change the language in voice search to English and turn off "ok google". I use the phone in a different language and I also had it in voice search.

Tried this method and so far (1h) no flashes. Sounds reasonable, that Google is trying to send some notices to the screen and that functionality is somehow bugged. I'm fine with turning off ok, Google. Have never used it anyway. [emoji28]

Had to think at least 3 times which kinda "room" you meant, and why a room should affect a smartphone [emoji848] Then I got it rom != room [emoji16]

The white screens interval increesed and taking foto's was sometimes difficult because white screens passed by a few times per taking a foto.
Now I received 8.1 and no white screens till now (20h)

Are you using the built in Camera, or some app?
I got 8.1 too but no changes. Have to admit I'm using Google Cam Port. Might be that, because otherwise I've turned off kinda all notifications, but it's still flashing.
As mentioned earlier, I should do a full wipe and use the built in cam and such, but I don't really like it.
I'll see, when I find the time to wipe and set it up again...

I am using the built in Camera. Two days 8.1 and not a single white flash. Before the update 8.1 I had it not only with the camera app but very random. I hope you will find a solution. I found it very annoying.

I really have no clue, which app causes those issues. Will try the built-in cam for testing.
If it still persists, I really have to reset the phone.
Thx. I'll find a way and yes, it's pretty much annoying

After 4 days a minor white flash returns during scrolling for apps in the app store. I immidiately implemented the above quoted solution and since then no white flash. :fingers-crossed: :fingers-crossed:

Just turned it off. Didn't think about the system processes before.
Will report, if anything changed. Thx for that hint so far, sounds promising
