[Q] Can't mount the external SDcard in TWRP - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everybody,
I'm having trouble with TWRP on my Z5 Dual (E6683), the external SDcard cannot be mounted.
I've tried everything I could: flashing different ROMs (stock MM and N, Lineage OS), Kernels, multiple TWRP versions, both integrated in the kernel or as the fota recovery, no way.
The "Micro SDcard" storage cannot be ticked and is reported as 0 MB size.
The microSD is not faulty as it is working fine in Android and any other OS, it's just TWRP that doesn't detect it.
Any help appreciated, thank you.

In what format is sdcard formated ?

exFAT, since it's 128 GB. However I also tried forcing FAT32 with RMPrepUSB, but still it was not detected by TWRP.
Yesterday I've managed to solve the problem by putting the sdcard in my other phone (Xperia Z1C) and partitioned it in TWRP (ext3, ext: 128, swap: 0). Then I reformatted it once again as exFAT.
When I put it back in the Z5, it started detecting the sdcard in the internal TWRP integrated in the kernel, while it is still not detected by the external TWRP (FOTA kernel recovery). It doesn't matter though, I just need a working recovery.
I think it was fixed as a side effect of the partitioning...

[Q] Internal SD-card (USB-Storage) won't mount when Android boots, only ext-sd

Hello,
Internal SD-card (USB-Storage) won't automatically mount itself when Android starts. It only mounts my external SD-Card. In CWM i can access everything (internal sd, external sd, system etc.) i can format them also. when i connect my phone to the pc i can read and write to both SD-Cards. Everything seems fine, but when android boots (with my ext sd inserted), i enter my pin, and my homescreen appears. Everything is ok but only my external sd is mounted, not my internal (USB-Storage). But when i boot without the external-sd inserted it mounts my internal-sd without problems. Weird. When i insert my ext-sd (phone is running) after my int-sd got mounted, it also mounts my ext-sd. What´s the reason for this behavior? Does anybody know how to fix it? can´t be a format (rfs/ext4 or FAT like) problem i think, but maybe i am wrong.
My Phone is:
Samsung Galaxy S i9000 running
CyanogenMod 10.1 / cm-10.1-20130111-NIGHTLY-galaxysmtd.zip (Stock CM-Kernel, also used semaphore jb 1.9.3)
Maybe someone has an idea how to fix this problem. I´d really appreciate any help.
Greetings,
Strainhunter
fixes, i think^^
I think i fixed the problem.
I copied all the files on my external sd (yes, the problem with the internal sd (usb-storage not mounting was the external sd )
then i formated emmc in CWM--rebooted--> and the copied the files back to the ext-sd. Till now i rebooted the device multiple times and both sd´s are mounting fine^^
Thanks to me^^
Greetings, Strainhunter
Update: Problem came back -> got fixed
Hello Again,
After recently the problem came back, i experimented a little and found out that the problem did go away when i made my nandroid backups in tar format, but came back when i made them i dup format. I think it was the big "blobs"-folder on my ext-sd that caused it.
Just wanted to update this thread, because if someone encountered this problem too, he maybe want to have a look at his Nandoid-backup-format.
MfG,

[Q] SD card won't mount - Have I bricked it?

Hi guys.
Almost total noob here - not quite, but still.
I have a Pico/Explorer.
I rooted, flashed CWM 5.05, then a MIUI ROM.. all worked well. Then I wanted to try the new Triumph HD ROM. Initiall install was succesful.
I partitioned my SD card with 1024 ext3 and a swap of 128Mb
Wiped, installed ROM, no problems.
I didn't see that int2ext was supported (by command line, apparently) so I tried installing mount2sd from the play store.
After enabling everything in that app, I rebooted.
Phone became stuck on lock screen.. would not respond to any touches or buttons. But the UI updated when the battery got low, made a noise on low battery etc, and the time was updated.
I booted into recovery to test the buttons, all work fine. I checked my partition log and it said various errors like could not find this or that mount point.
I partitioned again, this time is was extremely slow. I put the SD card into my mac to add the images, but it wasn't found.
Now when I partition it does it really quick - on inspecting the log, it says "err: /dev/block/mmcblk0 does not exist!"
I can't mount the /sdcard or the /sd-ext in recovery.
Have I f!cked my SD card or my device?
Thanks for any help.
Connect your sd-card to pc using card reader if it shows sd-card then ok
If it not show ur sd-card then run minitool partition wizard
And find the sd-card there and format it and delete the sd-ext partition and re-create it using recovery
And never use two memory script at one time
Before using the another memory script remove the previous one
sent from
little pico
Thanks dude.
When I plug it in with a USB card reader, the SD card doesn't show - in minitool or anywhere else at all.
I think it's dead. Will have to buy a new one.
I will be careful with overclocking in future
Thanks again.
Put your card in the phone and boot into recovery.. Then mounts/storage and try to mount usb storage when connected to pc.. If the mem card shows up in your pc then try putting the card in a non android phone and delete the partitions.. Even my sd card didn't show up in a card reader.. But it showed up when I used a non android phone..

make sure your sd card is usable - connect it to PC and check if it is being read. If yes, then continue. If no, then replace it.
Backup your entire SD card.
Delete all partitions and make one single partition using the Minitool Partition Wizard. Once done, try partitioning with the Recovery. this way you can ensure max compatibility.
And btw, only use swap if you are using Swapper, and only if your ROM supports it. Not all ROM support swapping. I recommend you to set swap to 0, our Pico is capable enough to run flawlessly without swap.
Once done, Factory Reset, Wipe Cache, flash your rom again and after one reboot flash mounts2sd or int2ext. Never use two scripts at a time.
same problem
It happened only with Triumph ROM for me no matter what i do the doesn't mount when i connect via usb tethering to my pc..I had to reboot into recovery for the memory card to show up in the pc..Can any one help me on this?
I never installed any secondary memory script..Just flashed the latest Triumph version after a superwipe....
The memory card never shows up on the pc but only in recovery..
format using minitool partion
format using minitool partion it'll fix sd card errors

[Q] The mysterious case of the "invisible" SD card

Smartphone Newman N1 with lingfude ICS custom ROM.
I extended the userdata partition following this guide. Unfortunately, after flashing the phone wasn't able to property start Android anymore (but I was able to start in Recovery Mode).
So I have re-installed the ROM (factory reset and wipe all the data) and now the phone it's OK, except for the SD card. It seems like I have no SD card at all.
Some facts:
The SD is OK. I tested it on both PC and on a different smartphone, no problem at all.
The SD is correctly formatted FAT32 (no multiple partitions).
In Recovery Mode I can still access to the SD card . I can mount/unmount it, I can even install software from it in Recovery Mode.
I think the problem is related to the extension of the userdata partition but I'm not sure.
Any ideas?

Nobody?
Just went ahead and reformatted to removable media.
TWRP 3.0.0.1 didn't even load on my cricket version and i had mounting issues with TWRP 2.8.7.... try and find TWRP 3.0.0.0 for this phone if you don't have everything in recovery working (but always save backups where they are safe) and install it or try 2.8.7 for this phone if that doesn't work. 3.0.0.0 works perfect for me.... Good luck!

Thanks man. I tried all three of them. They all worked, but wouldn't recognize external SD card if it was formatted for internal.
Try a different brand or different card and let TWRP format the sd if possible.... I take everything on my sd card and drag it to my computer and try different formats (ext 4 and or fat 32 or exFat) and see what works with your comp and recovery; as well as os
Im having the same issue.
No matter what twrp I use ext sd is 0 cant mount sammy class 10 128 gb
I had this issue on my s5 and had to upgrade twrp to 3.1.1-1 i think but cant find one for cricket idol 3 that works

[Completed] TWRP Not Recognizing External SD Card

Hello
I have an unrooted WileyFox Storm (kipper) running Ressurection Remix (MM)and having the custom TWRP 2.8.7.0 recovery. I have a 128 GB SDXC card and have formatted it as portable using MM's SD formatter (it now has the file system exFAT).
I now need to flash Gapps Aroma (which is on my SDcard), however TWRP does not recognise it. I have tried mounting it on "Mount --> Micro SDcard" but it does not select the option, as well as "Install --> Storage: --> Micro SDcard" but it just shows up as "(0MB)", and I cannot select it.
So, how do I have TWRP recognise it? The file manager on my actual phone and on my PC can both find it. Should I just use ADB sideload to flash Gapps?
Thanks,
~ Adam
EDIT: Before anyone tells me to search on Google, I have, and either the posts have not been answered, or the solutions do not work.

Hello and welcome to XDA-developers!
Did you try format your sdcard on fat32 filesystem?

I cannot, seeing as it's a 128GB Card (there is no option on Windows). There was an option, however, for NTFS file system however that did not work either.

You have to use another programming with fat32 option or use cmd (command line) to format manually
