Nougat Dialer is Awful on Galaxy S7 - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S7 Questions & Answers

Worst dialer I've seen - for example if you have a contact with multiple numbers you have to make a default choice or take time to move to another selection instead of having all of the numbers in front of you. White background sucks too.
Anyone know of a better dialer/contacts ap for Nougat on the S7

as far as i know, unless you're rooted, you won't be able to change to another dialer. i tried that with my S7 on 6.0 and the phone wouldn't let me use another dialer.

In Nougat you can set default apps (maybe in prior Android versions too) just like you can set different apps as your default launcher. Lots of different Launchers out there instead of Touch Wiz. I'm just looking for some folks who have experience or suggestions for better contact/dialer apps

right, i know you could set default apps for some stuff, but i tried that in 6.0 and couldn't figure it out. asked some questions and pretty much was told i was **** out of luck unless i was rooted. also, the dialers i installed wouldn't even run on my S7. i dunno. if they fixed it in Nougat, then that's great. the stock ones do suck, i agree.

Download the patched Google dialer and install it. Set it as your default calling at from Settings>Applications>3 dot menu in the top right corner.

Thanks for the info - where can I find the download link?

I've been using "True Phone Dialer & Contacts" from the Play Store on my unrooted Samsung Galaxy S7 (6.0.1) for a while now. Try that.

Could you not just use an alternate theme?

Interesting. I've been using the Material Black theme with no problems and I just went through my dialer. If I get into contacts and select someone with more then one phone number it just defaults to whatever I had picked last time. I do have the option to change it. But I don't see a problem since more often then not I'll be picking the same number each time. I don't see any problem with the default dialer now that I have a black background.

The Material Black dialer is a nice theme - much better for me than stock so I've been using it. The default contact thing is a PITA since the last number I dial depends on whether my contacts are at work or home so it's an extra step to use. It would have been easy for Samsung to show all numbers for contacts but typically Samsung never cares about customer needs or usability.

Minu material black is great no problems with dialer and multi numbers.

I wouldnt use the patched Dialer app, honestly.

[APP] myDialer lite

Hello,
I created an alternative for a dialer app - it's myDialer lite.
What's myDialer lite??
myDialer lite is a replacement for dialer app. You can quickly search for contacts by entering part of the name/number. The application is one of the fastest of its kind.
What is not (and will not be) myDialer lite?
myDialer lite is not an application for managing contacts. It is not a call history management application (even though it has a few features to this).
Languages:
-english
-polski
-עברית (only T9)
-Русский
-Magyar (only T9)
-français
-roman (not full)
-deutsch
it's available in android market: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.mozarcik.dialer.lite
There is full version of myDialer. Topic is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1055915
What's difference between myDialer lite and full??
landscape mode
swipe gestures on contacts (and option what to do after swipe) and keyboard
option to choose action after click on contact
speed dial
close after call
setting of sorting the list
and more

thanks for the update, but still got the same error
"Android system didn't grant android.permission.CALL_PHONE to myDialer. It means that myDialer can't directly call phone numbers and it won't work properly. I will close now."
everything's working fine on the normal version though.

Sweet. Thanks. Once I get my phone back, I'll try this out. Currently using TouchPad Dialer.
It would be helpful if you included more information in the OP, such as differences between the Lite and Regular version, how much the regular version will cost, and a link to the user suggestions voting page
http://mydialer.uservoice.com/forums/115645-general
When i get to computer i'll update first post.
Differences between lite and full are that full has:
-landscape mode
-swipe gestures on contacts (and option what to do after swipe) and keyboard
-option to choose action after click on contact
-speed dial
-close after call
-setting of sorting the list
-and more
sent using tapatalk
Nice work mate Of course I'll test it
I think your work is awesome.
The only issue is while scrolling through the list of contacts, a number is too easily dialled instead of scrolling up or down.
If this can be fixed I'd love to use it as my default dialled.
Thanks

Fortunatelly there are other dialer apps which you can choose and everyone has a choice

Good work!

(PSA) Samsung's "Good Lock" gives you stock-like statusbar (and more)

The app is available on the Galaxy App's app market and works on Samsung's touchwiz android 6.0 (some say you can side load the apk on touchwiz android version 5.1 and it will still work; app won't appear on the galaxy store unless you are on android 6.0 though)
It, of course being by samsung, DOES NOT require root and can be uninstalled if you don't like it.
Just look up "Good Lock" on the samsung app store (Galaxy Apps); it will say "update" instead of download since it's an update to the System UI, and your phone should reboot.
Confirmed working on tdunham's deodexed MM rom. Should work without any issues on stock none-rooted.
Here's a video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GJ0P1S9jom0
(pokedex animations not included )
Just tried it. Tried it for a few minutes. And uninstalled it. Too many bright colors for my taste.
Colors can be changed by going into the Good Lock settings, then selecting the routines menu and editing default. Darker colors are on the left while lighter is on the right. If only the recents menu could be changed so easily.
Also the bokeh is ****. Not only does it cause lag upon opening the drawer, but it looks incredibly ugly. It's nowhere near as well implemented as iOS and even if it was, it wouldn't fit with material design.

I was happy once I figured out I could change the color from the butt ugly purple they started me on. Now I'm back closer to the stock MM color.
Your second point, are you talking about the app drawer on the lock screen? I didn't personally like that. You can disable it, though. If you go into routine just like changing the color and at the last setting page it has a little screen with the sections for clock, notifications, and app drawer. Uncheck the app drawer and it is gone.

I was referring to the notification drawer. Though I also dislike the other areas that Samsung has shoved bokeh (blur) into, like the power menu.

Ohh OK, I understand now. I don't mind the blur too much and haven't noticed any lag from it yet. Overall, I think it is an improvement on TW...even with the crappy recents.

You can set your own lockscreen background with Good Lock. After you install Good Lock it will change but if you go and set your lockscreen background again, it will stick.
Is it just me or while using good lock, and when you go into the recent apps and you hit clear all it doesn't clear all and it just clears apps that are visible in the recent apps menu?

Samsung's New Notification/Lockscreen App

Hey all.. I don't think I've seen a post about this so I thought I'd be the first to give you all a heads-up on Samsung's new lock app called Good Lock. It's a fairly new app and I'm sure they'll make improvements. It pretty much changes your lockscreen, notifications tray, and recent tabs. Let me know what you think of the app.
**Apparently some rooted users are having various problems (constant reboot and randomly uninstalls itself), so keep that in mind...
You can download this in the Galaxy App store

I downloaded this today, and so far I like it! I wasn't sure at first, but the more that I use it, the more I enjoy it.
I like the new notifications menu. Looks a lot like stock Android. Wish u could use a custom lockscreen wallpaper, but besides that, it's pretty cool! I'm surprised that Samsung created something like this.
To answer your question, I'm pretty sure that those icons are from a previous theme. I haven't found any icon customization with this app
I tried the app, but it uninstalled itself after a bit playing around with it. It looked better than the stock lock screen and notification area (although I don't like the colours) and I'd like to keep the app. Is there a way to prevent that the app is automatically uninstalled?
In Nova Launcher pulling notification bar down is not flawless if you use gesture...
Just a warning that it doesn't work with rooted devices. I made the mistake of installing it on my rooted S7 and it caused constant reboots.
I've also uninstalled in for ithe time being because it didn't work with my Samsung led case. it kept asking for location. I've never had the uninstall problem or reboot problem. you can change the lockscreen by going to Samsung settings. I really hope they polish the app a bit more.
Sent from my SM-G930T using Tapatalk
So far, I'm liking Good Lock. just a couple weird things. Looks like you no longer can customize the quicksettings tiles, and the recent apps switcher is much better, but if you use the button to bring it up and dismiss it (also using the button) then it goes to the Home App instead of the app I was in.

Are you rooted? If not, that explains why the reboot issue would never have happen for you.
Downloading now.
I tried it and uninstalled within minutes. The recent apps is horrible - separate chrome tabs are now nameless icons making it useless to find the tab you wanted, and I like having a preview of the open apps. Also, as mentioned, the MM notification draw pulldown bug in Nova is present, which drives me insane. And no lockscreen wallpaper choices, no thanks. The only reason I'd want to use it is the more stock android look, and that you can finally double tap a notification on the lockscreen to open it, which should be a thing on the current lockscreen anyway.

Good Lock App Alternative TW UI 6.0.1

This thread has already been started in the general section but this seemed like a more appropriate place for it.
Samsung released an alternative UI for Touchwiz 6.0.1 that is available on the Galaxy Store for the Galaxy S7. I, however, have been using this for some time now on the N910P.
All you have to do is download the APK and install as normal. Your device will say that it needs to reboot. Once rebooted the new UI will be in place.
For any modifications merely swipe the notification bar down twice and you will see a second settings button. From there you can modify the theme and lockscreen or uninstall.
This new UI seems to change the lockscreen, recent menu and the notification pull down. See screenshots below.
Note: To set lockscreen picture, do so from your normal settings menu.
Note: Fingerprint lock on the lockscreen has not been working but I have not tested it on the update.

Another Note: I did not create this, I merely downloaded, installed and then shared with you guys. I believe Samsung created it...

So why the error message said that it's not compatible with my device.
And after I installed it and reboot my device I couldn't see any icons, also when I tried to go to settings the screen went black.
I think not only fingerprint lock issue, also I am using nova launcher not TouchWiz.
So If any developer could port this app it will be better.

Edge lighting+, one hand operation, edge touch, routines and only an animation of task changer settings are the only things that are working.

Anyone having luck with the EdgeLightning+ application? I've installed it and I'm trying to setup custom EdgeLightning for notifications. I've set Messages and Snapchat to blue and yellow, respectively, but no matter what notification I receive the EdgeLight is blinking at the default set color - and not the app-specific one.
Nova launcher widgets (activities) work with these apps too, no need to install another app.
My favorite is being able to remove the alarm icon and others from the status bar. Gives the phone a clean look.
Im inexperienced with this app. One thing i like is how the recents cards look unless thats from Nova Launcher.
Would any of you guys mind weighing in like the person above me talked about removing the alarm icon.
What are some of your favorite things to do? Im coming from HTC and not used to what this app can do.
Thank you.
Thank you for this! It took me a minute to see what was new about the edge lighting. All the new features are on the new page to the right. Also I really like the new look of the recent apps. Samsung Good Lock is also just a white page for me, scrolling to the right shows the developers emojis I think, but that's all. What is Good Lock anyways?
I'm on a G965U with it's stupid bootloader

No. U have to install all
Hi, using the new task manager I can't find 2 things.
1) If I'm on the home, for example, and I lanch the task manager , there's no way to lanch an app directly in multiwindow mode, like it is in the default task manager
2) If I'm using an app, for example chrome, and I lanch the task manager in multiwindow mode to select the second app, I can see only the apps already open but I don't have the possibility to search in all apps like it is in the default task manager
Do you have any solution?
Thanks

Guys you can install the official app from Samsung Store..but u have to use VPN app and change location to US then go to Settings then app then choose Galaxy App and from there delete data then open Galaxy app again and search for Good Lock app..but first of all you have to switch the phone off and remove Sim card and boot again without sim card and follow the above procedures......enjoy
