[DISCUSSION] G4 Plus stock MM, MPJ24.139-23.4 - Moto G4 Plus Guides, News, & Discussion

Forget about nougat. There's only one rom that gives you both perfect battery life, a perfect camera and a smooth epxerience without any issues on the moto g4 plus xt16442. It's stock MM, MPJ24.139-23.4.
Reasons you should update to a newer MM or to nougat: 0
Looking forward to Android O (-range ice)
Edit: i forgot about security. Of course you have to update to nougat immediately if you don't want to be another victim of the terrible security holes in any android version but the newest. If you don't care, stay on the one good release.

from my experience with LG devices and updates, firt G5 will receive the 7.0 until ends of September/October and next V10 until ends of December or earlyer January! Dont bother too much, we will receive it anyway!
There is no root for Marshmellow so likely nougat will be more impenetrable. I'm sticking to Marshmellow and waiting for a root.
There is way, way too much crap-ware on verizon phones not to be rooted.

depends wich variant you have, in some variants the bootloader is unlockable and then have root like mine!
i am sure LG will make all variants unlockable-able bootloader so, you need to wait if you have a locked one!

Verizon (or any other cell company) has no vested interested in giving root access to it's customers. The phones are loaded with crap ware to data mine what you are doing. That is valuable data to Verizon and they are not about to lose that income stream if they can help it.
I've had previous Verizon phones with the same "locked down" problems. Even though the phone would play MP3, etc; that made it so you HAD to buy any music you wanted to play through their Verizon store. Outrageous when I have 250GB of music archive I want to choose from.
I held my nose and went back to Verizon because we are planning to move to a rural area and Verizon was the only company that had any coverage. Stuck again in locked down hell.
Someone PLEASE find a way to root these phones!

Root the V10 with bootloader locked and Android 6.0 Marshmallow is impossible...
The only method to root V10 with bootloader locked is on 5.1.1 Android Lollipop with some kind of dump, i know its possible because when i have my G Flex 2 i have bootloader locked and i root it in 5.1.1, but when update to 6.0 Marshmallow i cant root so, if you want root for now you need to be in 5.1.1.
We will get android 7 for sure but i also do not expect it before the end of the year. They will first focus on G5 which most probably will get it around september/october and after that will work on V10 and G4. Android 7 have some good new features like the multitasking and advanced doze mode but frankly my V10 is working perfectly even now with marshmallow so i am in no rush to get the update as soon as possible. Lets hope that we will get it as christmas present before end of the year.
Outside of vulkan I couldn't care less about nougat.
In fact I think it should be called 6.1 not 7.0, there is nothing interesting about it multiple windows? This has been around for awhile if the app supports it.. My note 3 had multi window support and so does the LG v10 it's pretty useless
Sent from my LG-H901 using XDA-Developers mobile app
It should also be noted that marshmallow doze features can be enhanced with 3rd party apps such as ForceDoze which can decrease the time it takes for doze to kick in when the screen is off.

LG Android Nougat Update
LG has earned pretty good reputation among devs for updating their flagships faster than anyone else to the latest Android version. Last update also, LG updated their flagship, LG G4 to Marshmallow soon after the update was released for the Nexus devices. We can expect that for the current flagship LG G5 and the previous flagship LG G4 with LG Android 7.0 Nougat Update.
Here is the list of all devices which will get LG Android Nougat Update :
LG G5
LG G4
LG V10
These are the devices which are confirmed to get the Nougat Update from LG, we don’t have any confirmation till now. We’ll be updating the post when it will be available.
Also, LG’s updates are generally lagged by the carriers in US, so the LG Android Nougat Update timeline may vary from different carriers like Verizon, Sprint, etc. And we can expect the updates to come to the devices listed above just after 2 months from release of Android Nougat.
Long story short, at least we're getting it. After rumors of the V20 coming out already many people believed LG would forego the update to pressure people into buying the V20. We know now, that's not the case.
I for one would really like the Nougat update. Split screen might have existed since a long time ago but official support from Google means wider adoption. Vulkan of course is another must have feature along with the improved Doze. I also love the interface seen on the V20 including the notification/quick toggle shade. The V20 also allows the second screen toggles to work whilst the main screen is on (sound, wifi, flash, camera etc.), something that the V10 does not allow. Hopefully this will be implemented as well along with other second screen improvements like allowing all notifications to go on the second screen.
The doze improvements can be brought to marshmallow via ForceDoze which can make doze kick in immediately when the screen is off.
Multi screen I have never found particularly useful for even big screen phones, there is simply not enough room to legitimately work with. Great for tablets nearly useless for phones.
Correct me of I am wrong but The hardware has to support vulkan in order to take advantage of it right? Pretty useless unless you've got a newer phone that can use it.
Nougat to me sounds more like a minor update (should be 6.1 not 7). It sounds like the most lackluster update to android yet.

LG G5 F700L Korean version has got Nougat 7.0. I am from India and I got this update via LG bridge software,
I do have LG V10 but still no luck with LG bridge. I manually downloaded MM kdz file from LG site and flashed.
It was quite unfortunate though, as back when Nougat was released last year, LG initially listed G4 and V10 to receive Nougat. I just hope with the re-affirmation by them that they will test the firmware well and not do a botched job of the Nougat build. Since it is highly unlikely we are getting the next O software by Google, let's hope we atleast get the latest Nougat 7.1/7.2.
question: I love and hate this phone...camera is great in steady shot, but when fast focus is needed it fails. When I take pics of kids, lots of pic. came out blurry, now, what do you think, can Nougat fix this or it's just slow hardware?

i think Nougat doesnt fix what you want, only thing Nougat will bring to us most likely is the new UI from G5/V20 or G6, some doze optimizations, multi-window will be more friendly and nothing more...
hope they can fix the Hi-Fi DAC to be used with the speaker and not only with the earphones, hope to less system storage ocupied by the system and more to the user, and really hope the GPS will be fixed too because my V10 fixing time of GPS is fast but, every 2/3 minuts lost signal and this is really what have dissapointing me in this device!
...and (i dont belive this will happen but) i hope they remove the sh1tty beauty mode for the front facing camera, this make the photos look ugly and have 0 quality!
Since this probably will be the last OS to our V10 i think users deserve unlockable bootloaders and then users can cook their own rom's and kernels (this is a dream for me since day 1 of have the phone in my hands, since july last year!).

Nougat vs Marshmallow tests?

I have an unrooted (and plan to stay like that ?) HTC 10 phone and at the moment my phone is 'harrasing' me to install the Nougat update from Marshmallow. Since the KitKat to lollipop debacle on HTC m8 I have sworn off from updating OS.
However it seems most people have been saying positive things about Nougat especially with regard to battery performance. Note this is something I'd be interested in. However , wanted to know if anybody knew of any battery performance comparison tests between the two OS...
I did find one online but it was a bit old and wondered if anybody knew of any others so I can make an informed choice about the battery performance of both OSs... Also what do fellow users personally think about the battery performance difference between Android Nougat and Marshmallow? Advanced thanks
https://youtu.be/_a7AC2UXpYg

Which do you prefer more, MM or M and why?

I've been running Android N for a while now and realized that MM had better battery and performance, or maybe I'm just missing something. So I want to know what you guys prefer and why you choose it.
On the G... Marshmallow, I don't see much benefit to Nougat's features on the G3.
And you are not wrong about the battery life, it is best on stock, then Marshmallow, and Nougat running behind in general.

Android Pie on V20

I know it might be a little to early to talk about Android Pie on V20 when some devices are not yet receive Android Oreo update. However, I still have some hope on V20 receiving official Android Pie update some day.
Does anyone think that your device will eventually get Pie or stuck at Oreo?

With LG's track record come back in two years
Sent from my LG-H910 using XDA Labs
v20 qualifies for Pie update on paper, Pie was released within the 2 year update window and almost all flagships receives 2 major updates, whereas v20 only received 1, at some lucky regions that is.
However LG really abandoned its mobile devices; shuts down services, releases devices partly (not worldwide) and very late.
Not releasing Oreo for US996? Come on, they used to blame carriers for everything, but not releasing update for your unlocked variant even months after carrier devices are updated? They haven't pushed even security update for months. I think they dropped the ball real bad and totally deserve to go out of business, sorry.
I am a time traveller, I went 1 year into the future. There are no signs of PIE for V20 yet
On a serious note,
LG's preference will be
LGV40
G7
V35
V30s
V30
G6
V20
So even if V20 gets pie(it probably won't), it wil be at least 1 year before we see any variant of v20 gets it
Pie also requires eligibility for Treble support, allowing Google to update devices with this themselves, and requiring OEM's to only maintain a partition with what they want pre-loaded onto the device.
This would expand the lifespan of the V20 indefinitely, we'd be able to get updates at a similar speed to say a Pixel or Nexus (the latter being like the V20, an older class of flagship).
But I wouldn't hold my breath for LG putting the hours into a device that's now so low on their hierarchy.
One LineageOS 16.0 gets stable, that's about the only hope we have.
Few days ago i received the Android Oreo update on my V20 so i don't think LG will upgrade to Android Pie any soon .. but i can hope!
LG almost never go further than 1 major update.
I've owned 5 LG phone, they never receive version V3x.
So I say there is no chance LG V20 will have another major upgrade....especially it's one of the first LG phone start with Nougat.

well the g7 got it in korea..
LG actually confirmed awhile ago that v20 will get pie, apparently LG is trying to fix their image. Most likely we will get the update by the end of this year.
What about security updates, we had 2 on nougat for the TWN version.
On Oreo no updates since october/oreo hit, i would much rather get a few more of them until pie.
Security updates is abysmal from LG.
My stock import V20 still has 8.0.0 with 1st september patch .. i am not holding out any hope of getting any updates at all ..
Sadly LG has removed all support for the v20.......
According to this, we'll get it 3rd quarter.
https://www.androidauthority.com/android-9-0-update-880718/
Don't put your hope too much on this, LG might release Pie but it might be for korea only.. just like how they did for LG G4 by releasing Nougat for korea only..

If it does happen, we hope you get the time to continue the Awesome Alpha Rom into Pie (again, if you have time, since I know it's alot of hard work).
If not, we'll continue to use your AWESOME Alpha Rom on Oreo! Again, thanks for all your hard work on it.
As an aside, if LOS 16.0 (Pie) is perfected on the V20, we might test it out.

im already tested that LOS pie. its working great, and even our 2nd screen is working just like additional screen, so we got a bigger screen after all..
but the cons is,
the camera result is not good as in stock based rom and the built in DAC is not working.. for me, that 2 point (camera and DAC) is the bigest reason why im still using v20 in 2019..
for now on im just hoping in future, the stock camera and built in DAC can be ported into LOS pie sonwe got running pie also with perfect camera and V20's DAC..

Correct. You can't use the original camera apps on AOSP because they have proprietary dependencies.
Thank LG. GCam is the closest you will get, and that now has functioning Night Sight.

New life for my Oneplus One?

Hello,
I'm still using my Oneplus One with the original Cyanogen Mod.
I can definitely noticed the age of my phone nowadays. As I recently discovered that there are stable builds of Lineage OS available for the OPO I started wondering if an updated software would give my phone a bit of a revival. In general it is still in a good condition so I don't really want to just replace it.
Just wanted to hear your thoughts and opinions, if it is worth to update the software or if I rather should start searching for a replacement.
What is there to lose if you first try out the newest LineageOS, which is based on Android 11?
If you do not need things like a better camera or use your phone for gaming, the OPO is still as good as ever. I think my phone is smoother to use than it was 7 years ago because of the LineageOS team's work. Tomoms even has a performance optimized build for the OPO, which I can recommend strongly. Beware that the optimized build is more experimental than the official LineageOS.
Hi, I upgraded my oneplus one a couple of months to lineage OS 17.1 - works well and after adding Gapps is almost like a new phone. it is slightly slower but it gave a new life. little apprehensive for getting lineage Os 18.1, as it says it will be even slower due to software encryption
