Hi
Does anyone know hot the facebook thing in HTC sense works? What data is transmitted? Is it just downloading the list of friends and comparing the name?
Does it send the names in your contact book? or the phone numbers?
does really nobody care?
It should recognise contacts shared between your phone and facebook then fill in info in contact cards like birthdays, email adresses etc, only if its shared on facebook of course.
Theres probably more to it than that but its not a function I use a lot.
Hope that helps!
Than you for your answer.
so nothing will be transmitted to facebook? it will only download the data from fb and then compare it to the phone book?

Once last time, I sync my Facebook app with my phone contacts. Then it "mess" up my contacts such as changing for me names of my contacts to what the contact use in Facebook. Because of that, I had nightmare.
I am just curious how many of you do sync your Facebook app with phone contacts? I ask because with all the integration of Google with Facebook and Twitter or even with social media websites, I was wondering to try sync again or not.
Like what's the benefits to sync?
Share your views please.
Thanks!
Someone from androidforums.com commented that:
I do. I found that to solve the problem with Facebook last names, you link the Facebook contact TO your google contact, not the other way around. If you link the Google contact to the facebook contact, it will use the name that's on facebook.
I find it extremely helpful to have my facebook contacts right in my phone. That way, if I need to contact somebody that isn't in my regular phonebook, i can contact them quickly.

While waiting for his reply there, maybe I like to ask here too... how do I link FACEBOOK to GOOGLE? (right?) =D
Hello Guys
I was able to change the settings in the contacts app to sort all my contacts by last name. Unfortunately, this setting isn't applied to other apps.
Is it possible to change the sort order for other apps (google messenger, whatsapp, ...) too?
Thanks a lot for your answer.

Hello everyone,
I am running a stock rom on my GS6 and since yesterday, when I had to call someone I noticed that I have duplicate phone numbers for each contact, but only when I type a contact's name using the T9 function of dialer. If I go to contacts, everything is fine.
I noticed that the issue is solved after uninstalling whatsapp. When I reinstalled whatsapp from the play store, it installed version 2.12.176, but I instantly got the update for 2.12.242 which was the version I had before. The issue came back after 30 minutes of use...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had that problem also but because of another app, you need to not sync the app with your contacts. I was able to unsync the contacts from my app. Try going into settings, accounts and see if you can set it to not sync or maybe in the app unsync your contacts.
I don't have this whatsapp contact sync problem, but i had duplicate contacts. Did you try to "merge contacts" from the menu in the contacts app? For me this worked

the problem is that contacts don't show the duplicate numbers, it's just from whatsapp/other app that is giving this problem.
I have the same problem on my Galaxy s6... Any fix?
Yes i have this problem. Any Fix??
Hello I have the exact same problem. But a lot of people that have the S6 (95%) doesn't have this issue.
Maybe we have a contact problem in our Google account?
I'm thinking of deleting and retyping all of them bit it's annoying...
Should I give a try? I need WhatsApp so much but this double number issue is very frustrating at the same time....
Okey, so I had the exact same problem and I think I might have found a way to fix this. The problem is it's contact by contact and not bulk.
1. Go to your contacts in your S6. Search for a contact that you know have duplicate numbers in the dialer.
2. You will now see that there is just one number added to the contact.
3. Click the "show more" link in the bottom of the contact card (above your recent activity)
4. This expanded view now shows you more contact info. Look for the "Connected by" field with a link symbol on the right.
5. This field will show you what services link contact info to this contact. Click it and press the "-" by the connected app to split it from this contact.
6. Now if you search for this contact again you will find two contacts. The original one and the one you just broke free.
7. Click the unwanted one and press "more" in the top right and select "delete". It will warn you that you cant delete read only stuff but proceed anyway.
8. Voila! Now you don't have duplicate numbers in your dialer.
As I said this is a bit tedious, but it works. I have done it to my most frequent contacts and thats good enough for now. There is an option in the contact app where you can choose what sources to show in your contacts but that doesn't seem to work or doesn't apply to the dialer.
Hope this helps
.- Alex
Thanks for the help Bathyon I'll try this when I get back from work!!! I'll let you know.
This problem is not restricted to only the S6. I have the exact same problem on my Galaxy S4 mini Duos
I'm having the same problem with my Moto X (1st Gen). :/

Working ! ! ! ! Thank you very much ! You're a hero ! WhatsApp settings doesn't ask you if you want or not the app to mix up with your Google contacts. You found the solution to "separate" them without having twice the same contact anymore !
Thanks again !

Glad I could help. It was driving me mad so I'm as happy as you are
I don't think it's the proper solution. The apps need to fix the problem. I'm having the same problem on S5 too
Also having this problem. With the latest Whatsapp Beta. I will try seperating them.
For those who are still annoyed by this problem, I've found a more elegant solution - yet still somewhat of a hack. Unfortunately, root is required until marshmallow hits our devices:
1) Uninstall Whatsapp from your device
2) Install "App Ops" by nowsky from the Play Store
3) Reinstall Whatsapp (but do not yet open it)
4) Open up App Ops
5) Scroll down to Whatsapp in any of the categories (e.g. location)
6) Press on Whatsapp and untick its ability to "modify contacts"
7) Open and configure Whatsapp normally
Henceforth, Whatsapp won't be able to create duplicate numbers or entries. This solution does not seem to have any detrimental effect on Whatsapp itself. All Whatsapp capable contacts are properly displayed, there are no error messages and what have you.
Hi All,
Very new to XDA, first of all a grant thanks and appreciation for all the developers and management team of XDA, for creating such platform to share thoughts and each and everyone's questions.
My issue here is the contacts management in Android. I think Google hasn't given that much importance in that section while upgrading to Lollipop. And even in Marshmallow too, the same story. If you are using a stock android or a GPE version in any of your handset, you might have end up with your phone showing all the contacts from your gmail account, including the email account that you only use in gmail for your mails. Yes its ok in a regular basis for those who want to show all their contacts contents in one place, but will be too confusing rather annoying if one wants to have only their phone contacts to show up there.
I hope it was there in KitKat but somehow missed when we upgraded to Lollipop. I seriously would like to know from all of you is it there for all of you or just i am one of the few ended up with not knowing the correct settings somewhere hidden inside.
If anyone there can help or else need to wait fingers crossed to wait for any of the forthcoming updates from Google to have this option enabled.
Thanks & Regards

Hey,
There is an option to customize which contacts you want to show up.
Open the contacts app, click on the overflow menu button (3 dots) and select "Contacts to display".
From there you can choose which contacts you want to show up.
Hope it helps.
Cheers.

Yes, but it just gives you the option to select the account, like Gmail accounts, whatsapp, skype....etc. And don't dont have an option to select to show the contacts in SIM, or even cant create a new list in phone memory too...
