Oneplus 3 twrp asking for password to mount data? - General Questions and Answers

I want to try some custom roms on my oneplus 3 but can't do so as twrp is asking for a password to mount my internal storage. I don't know anything about any password because I never set one.
can somebody please help me. this is very irritating

I'm trying to remember how I got past this. Here's a couple tips that might help. If they don't work, then maybe someone who knows better will chime in.
1. Make sure you have the latest version of TWRP installed.
2. Try "default_password" without the quotes.
3. Try changing your settings to add a password and require a password at boot. Reboot the device into system, entering the password. Then reboot into Recovery and try that password.
4. Wait for someone smarter than me. [emoji6]

Try this
Boot into ROM, create a 4 digit pin screen lock, then use flashify to flash recovery, then boot into new recovery and use pin.
Boom, you have decrypted recovery. You can boot back into your rom and change the passcode to "none" and twrp won't ask for a pin.
This is because when twrp initially boots it sees a "default_password" but if you go into twrp and try to type default password it will not work because there isn't a default password it just sees there is one except its unlisted it's kind of a double negative but a way around that is to create a password

How to Backup Data, debugging not enabled, no custom recovery installed. One plus one.

Hello,
I have Oneplus One 64 gb variant, yesterday my nephew somehow changed my phone's lock pattern and now my phone is locked. USB debugging was disabled at that time. I am not able to get into my phone through any means. I have lot of important data in my phone and don't want to hard reset my device. Also I don't have any custom recovery installed on my phone. I don't know how to get a backup of my data. Any help will be appreciated. Please help me get my precious data back.
Thanks in advance.

If you still have internet access on the device, you can try entering the pattern over and over incorrectly until the "forgot password" button appears. You'll then be able to sign in to your gmail account and reset the password without losing any data.

In Cm13s this "forgot pattern" option has been disabled for god knows what reasons. I have attempted to unlock 85 times and still counting but still no option has presented itself.

Oh.
Some custom recoveries give you the option to backup your data to the SD card. You could check if that's available in yours.
I'm not sure if its gonna backup everything (similar to a nandroid backup) or just your apps+their data.
If its the latter then you can backup->wipe device->restore. If its the former though, then there's not much point as the password would've gotten backed up as well.

TWRP Decryption password after 2/2018 update

I'm on a Pixel 2 and I sideloaded the February 2018 security update. I tried to install Magisk again by using "fastboot boot twrp-image.img". I've tried all the versions of TWRP available on their site (twrp.me)
I get into TWRP and enter in my pin to decrypt the phone, which I've always used. TWRP says incorrect password. This is the first time I've ever gotten this.
Anybody else having the same issue, or tips to fix? Thanks!
Yes, it's been mentioned a few times. Simply remove the password lock from your phone before booting into recovery, then add your password back after you're done flashing.

Thank you for this. I did quite a bit of searching last night and this morning but couldn't find anything on it. This makes sense and I'll give a try when I get home.

I removed the pin and when I went to fastboot boot twrp.img, it went right through without prompting for a password in TWRP.
You may need to reboot first, after the pin removal

question about TWRP

hey guys, i got a issue about TWRP. I'm using android 7.1.1 NOF27B, and i want use custom TWRP. so i download firmware from google, flash-all. then reboot to system, copy twrp-pixel-installer-sailfish-3.2.2-0.zip to internal storage, then reboot to bootloader, using fastboot boot twrp-3.2.2-0-sailfish.img first to enter temporary twrp, then flash twrp-pixel-installer-sailfish-3.2.2-0.zip. the question is when i reboot to bootloader and enter to recovery, it does not show the password i need to enter, so i can not decrypt the data. i just want to have custom ESP backup to use different CDMA CHANNEL in CHINA. does anybody help me?
I ran into this issue as well, a workaround i found if you can get into your phone, is to shut off the pin or password in Security, then it should let you. Im not sure what the permanent fix is for this, but thats what I got to do on mine.

Disable Forced Encryption (DFE)

Hey guys,
I am trying to find how to disable the forced encryption for our beloved phone. I've read that in some threads that they used it but no download link was given. It always bothers me that TWRP always ask for a password and the PIN does not work. I always have to switch to pattern to decrypt the data. Currently using the chinese TWRP and latest EU weekly (1.21). Any information is appreciated. Thanks!

TWRP won't ask for password if you remove the PIN before entering TWRP. This is what I do.

I do that too, It's just that I keep forgetting it and need to reboot to disable it. And sometimes I can't reboot in to system becomes firmware is corrupted and I need to reflash a ROM. Also, I prefer to use PIN as the pattern is annoying to use. Thanks for your reply!

TWRP + crDroid - Cannot Encrypt Device

Hi,
Long story short - Trying to encrypt my phone so that I can properly use Work Profile with Intune Company portal as my employer requires the phone to be encrypted.
Have flashed twrp-3.6.0_11-0-guacamolev2.img and using latest crDroid. When i press Encrypt, phone freezes and gets stuck in a boot loop. I have to wipe the phone in order for it to boot again. I have founds some posts where it seems that one cannot encrypt the phone with twrp, and some posts and guides where it seems as people have been able to by shorteing the block count in the data partition (i have not tired this - a bit wary since the post was two years old). I have tried to boot the mauronofrio TWRP builds, but after I have sent to boot in fastboot mode, the phone never gets past the "Fastboot Mode" screen.
Any idea, or even better - guides, would be greatly appriciated.
Thank you!

[Guide] Enable encryption on a custom ROM which has it disabled by default
Hello everyone, this thread is a guide on how to enable encryption on ROMs that have it disabled. ROMs that have encryption disabled, usually do it because TWRP is not fully working, or they want to make switching ROMs an easier task. This zip...

Thank you very much. Don't know how i missed that one.
I have flashed and phone says Encrypted. However, when booting TWRP to flash Magisk, i cannot see any files - nor do i get prompted for a password. Is there a trick to Decrypting?
