I have taken the Google Phone APK from APK Mirror and modified it to work on any Marshmallow or newer Android Device. Credit goes to Kolda_CZ for originally doing this.
I CANNOT guarantee that this will work on your device/ROM as Google Phone is built for stock android, issues may arise on your device which I do not have the expertise to debug/fix. Also, please read the Know Issues section below AND search through the thread for previous posts about your issue before posting. Thanks.
If you have a Custom Recovery (e.g. TWRP) please DO NOT use this patched app. Follow the 2nd option in Workarounds section below.
Known Issues
Spam Caller ID does not work (see workarounds)
Nearby Places does not work (see workarounds)
Some device may experience issues when trying to call Contacts without default number from Favourites tab (use 11.0.164102751 for Stability)
Cannot Answer/Decline Calls from Notifications on Some Devices/ROMs due to security limitations
Missed call notifications broken on Samsung Devices with Nougat (see troubleshooting)
Phones with existing system app with Google Phone app package name will be unable to install (unless you can uninstall it)

Install Instructions
Remove previous versions of Google Phone
Install APK
Give permissions to app in Android Settings (including Modify System Settings)
Set as default calling app in Android Settings
Disable stock phone app
Update Instructions (OLD VERSIONS FROM THIS THREAD ONLY)
Install APK (No need to uninstall old version)
Make sure app still has all its permissions and default calling app status
Troubleshooting
Make sure to disable your stock phone app as much as possible and/or remove it's system permissions. (Also 'InCallUI', which is a system app).
If sound during calls does not work after update, reboot device.

Workarounds
Basically, Google Play Services is needed to link up with the app for Spam Caller ID & Nearby Places to work. To make the APK install-able on any device, I have to modify it. To modify it, I have to sign it with my own key. Signing it with my own key causes Google Play Services to force close the app (as it can see it has been modified), so I have to disable the link. This means these features cannot work on a modified APK.
There are only two way to get the features on non-Google devices:
EITHER Get a non-nexus APK from Google which is signed in-house with their key (so the app doesn't force close on launch) Best you're gonna get is this: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google...-7-0-140861421-nonnexus-android-apk-download/ Version 7.0 with everything working, lacks any changes since 7.0 (basically "Message Why You Called" & PAW mode)
OR Have a custom recovery with flashing capabilities. Flash Google Dialer Support (Framework) then install the latest unmodified Google Phone APK: http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/google-phone/

Then i have simply installed google dialer 8 from apkmirror. Simply installed as any normal apk.
I can see name of people when they call me, so yeah Caller ID works.

That requires flashing a zip, which in turn requires a custom recovery. This is just an installable APK. If everyone wanted to flash everything, they'd all have assistant too.

I tried to install it on my HTC Desire 825. It installed correctly. I gave it permissions and changed it to the default app.
But there is a problem. When I call someone, the previous dialler also dials at the same time. I can see 2 notifications of an ongoing call in the notifications and I can switch between either one of the dialer from multitasking.
And I checked, but the disable button was disabled for the stock dialer.
Anything I could do to fix this? Also, it there any custom rom for D825? I could not find anything.

See if you can remove system permissions of Stock Phone app if it has them enabled. Also enable viewing of system apps and look for InCallUI and try to disable that (if you can't, then remove its system permissions).

As for Assistant, I'm sorry to break it to you, but its almost impossible. This is easy as our non google devices do not have Google Phone app installed, so the phones think its just a random app. This means I can sign it with any key I want, for example here I just used a simple test key (reason why you have to uninstall old versions is that it requires the same key sign when updating but you can uninstall it, so it forgets the old key). But with assistant its part of Stock Google App, a system app, installed on 99% of Stock ROM Devices, meaning you cannot uninstall it, and therefore I need the original key it was signed. I don't have that key and cannot get it, so you could need ROOT for this to work, but having ROOT or even a custom recovery means you can get assistant working without a Patched APK. Nevertheless, you can follow progress on this at https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/guide-google-assistant-marshmallow-t3478450 but don't waste your time with the OP post as it doesn't work without ROOT (even though the title says it does, lies). Tapping the Calls menu in Settings will crash the app. Just like the previous no-root Phone projects.
As a result, I can't enable visual voicemail.

I can access all settings in the app on my non rooted OnePlus 3. I don't see a specific menu called "calls". I see "calling accounts", "call blocking" and "caller id & spam". Is there another menu I don't have? (I'm not saying you're wrong, I'm just trying to understand the issue)

Well this is modded android 4.2 jellybean..and MIUI is created by chinese company Xaomi..its ui is quite similar to ios
And as of updates..currently i haven't planned for providing OTA updates...but yeah would update with flashable zips whenever possible..

BTW, I just installed it and its awesome, however, few of the times, getting error, Settings stopped working.

As much i know, to change the update link and provide a custom web address for OTA files, we would have to decompile the settings apk and recompile with different address. .net skills are less likely required.
And we may discuss these stuff on pm or on im.
As of the errors, please post the causes if you can replicate the force closes.

Yeah its already rooted. But miui uses its own root manager. First of all you would have to enable root access from System->Permission->Root->Enable root permission. and then as usual it would ask to block or grant root access.

lol...well there is no application drawer in miui..thats why i said that miui is similar to ios..all the apps are on home screen but you may arrange them with the help of folders

Caller id issue. Unlike others, it matches for complete number and therefore dont show the caller name saved in contacts.
Generally, it should match last 7 digits to show the name.
My contacts are like 09876543210
But incoming call shows +919876543210, which means no match. :|

Having a weird problem
Few of the times, when I receive call, sound is too noisy, I can't hear a thing.
However, if I make out-call, everything is perfect.
Is there any fix for it ?

INSTALLATION:
MUST BE ROOTED!
1. Install Flashfire by @Chainfire from play store.
2. Make sure zip file is on ext sdcard as this will wipe user system, user data, int sdcard
3. Open Flashfire app (agree to terms) then press the red plus button in lower right corner and select flash zip file.
4. On the next pop up screen press the check box in the top right corner.
5. Scroll to bottom left corner and press the lighting bolt to flash and click OK on popup.

just a heads up, after flashing this it would be advised to turn auto updates off in the play store. after flashing the su app was updated and i lost root. also i have xposed installed and activated all my current modules and encryption at boot enabled. after a reboot i kept getting system ui has stopped working i had to fight through until i could eventually get to settings and turn encryption off. i dont get the sys ui problem at boot anymore but it happens randomly still but not often. also with xposed i turned some modules i dont need off like adblocker and clarity along with a couple others and everything is running pretty good now. the main problem is not turning the auto updates off so su doesnt update and you loose root along with the encryption. that may be just me but it was a pain getting constant sys stopped pop ups until i could turn it off. anyway, nice rom! looking forward to future updates. would like to see your other bootanimation without having to reflash the rom though. im using the second one with the floyd playing....nice.

sorry just got home from working overnight so busy on here. is there an system app that was removed in the rom or one we had an option to remove during flash that would stop samsung apps from upgrading? well the apps upgrade fine its the themes and theme store that wont. i get an error -19 trying to update the theme store and i have two themes that keep trying to update and error out
Been running this for about 24 hours now. Holy crap my phones works so much better! First rooted rom I've ran and haven't had to flash govtuner. You're the man!!!

any plans to add wifi calling for any carriers if possible? im on at&t and use the wifi calling at work and home. mostly at work because i dont get a signal in the lab and rely on the wifi.

Samsung apps update auto unless you remove the Samsung store I don't believe it can be changed unless it's like the play store where you can choose your update options...
As for SuperSU unless you change the option in play store no way to stop it unless there's an option in the su app itself.

yeah i turned updates off on the play store thats why i mentioned it. and i dont know whats up with the samsung theme store it wont update, just fails.

There are a lot of posts up on XDA with the Pixel's feature port for the Nexus 5X. But it gets convenient when everything's under one hood. Also not all are technically sound and well versed with flashing ZIPs, wiping the caches and so on. We need it simple! The common language that we all understand is that of apps.
I've come up with a Nexus 5X-exclusive app that puts everything together and makes it convenient for everyone to get all the features of Google Pixel with just a button click.
CREDITS:
theLazyGeek for his flashable ZIP and his efforts that helped extend this project over to the Nexus 5X - a Nexus 6P initiative primarily. Please view his original thread here.
PREREQUISITES:
1. Google Nexus 5X
2. Root Access with SuperSu installed
3. Android 7.1.1
4. Build N4F26I only (make note, otherwise your device will brick)
5. TWRP installed
NOTES:
1. This app doesn't have a roll-back-to-stock feature, though I'm working on it. In the meanwhile if you want to roll back, simply flash the stock 7.1.1. OTA ZIP which you can fetch from here.
2. There are a few features missed out in the package from Pixel XL though I'm working on porting them too. Read below to know more.
3. The in-app download as of now is about 158 MB so make sure you have enough data / internet before proceeding.
BUGS:
1. A weird one in Google Camera app that the HDR icon randomly disappears. (P.S. same camera version from stock) It requires a workaround which will be updated soon. Though, it isn't a bug with the camera. Just that the HDR icon inside the camera app doesn't show up!
2. In case your wallpaper app crashes, just follow,
i. Open any File Manager (preferably get Root Explorer from Play Store)_
ii. Grant it SuperSu access
iii. Head over to /system/app/Wallpapers-wallpaper/
iv. Just tap the Wallpapers-wallpaper.apk and install it
v. Now try setting a wallpaper to set it.
WHAT'S THERE:
1. Pixel Navigation Bar icons + animation
2. Pixel Live Data Wallpapers + Pixel Live Earth Wallpapers
3. Pixel Launcher
4. Blue Theme
5. Google Assistant

Hey mikeprius, kindly head over to Settings -) About -) Build. If it's anything other than N4F26I, it will say that your device is incompatible. Kindly update your Nexus (via an OTA) to the latest build. You can grab the OTA update zip otherwise from here.

Hey throcker, what I meant by brick is soft brick (a subset of which is ANR on boot). And it doesn't mess with the partitions. It includes SystemUI,apk patched which if flashed on incompatible firmware will cause your SystemUI to ANR at every boot! Thanks!

Hey argraur, it's called PixelSwipe.apk available in the apps drawer - kindly grant it Su permissions and you're good to go. It doesn't have a UI but the service is now running in the background. Thanks!

A couple of locations have rules enforced that ban connectivity to the database of this app. One of the reviews on Play Store suggested this method of using a VPN for a workaround. Kindly try it out and let us know. Thank you, edisso10018!

Yeah and editing the build.prop model to LGE is how to get it back at the expense of free unlimited photos storage

Cherry picks gives you ability to install CyanogenMod AudioFX to your stock ROM. It's awesome!

Yeah, yeah, yeah, I know I'm boring and I keep posting the same thing over and over after each Developer Preview from Android O 8.0 releases... But I needed to do this backport for my SHIELD Tablet anyways, so I really don't mind sharing it here. Find this irrelevant and repetitive, feel free to close the thread.
So... Yet another time, the title says it all.
This is a quick (I spent 3 hours on it) backport of the Pixel Launcher ODR-4023749, extracted from the Android O (8.0) Developer Preview 3. I extracted the APK from the sailfish (Google Pixel) and tested it on my SHIELD Tablet, and as it wasn't working I modded it so that it'd work just fine on any Android 6.0.1+ devices.
I have implemented the Google's signature verification patch, as according to this thread so that the application doesn't Force Close on launch, as well as all the goodies from the Pixel Launcher O-3952143 v2 backport.
I've tested the application in my SHIELD Tablet running official LineageOS 13.0 nightlies, as well as in my Wileyfox Swift 2 with Android 7.1.1, and seems to be working like a charm with latest Google Play Services installed.
However, like last time I'd like to roll call all of you to please, test it and report back with any issue you find.

You need Android 7.1+ for the DeepShortcuts functionality, it's limited by the APIs.

It's possible to hardcode it but you can also try to modify your screen density (either from the Settings since you're on Android N), or using any other app to change the DPIs system-wide but that'd require root.

No, since they used their own, proprietary implementation. Maybe once Google releases the source code of Android 8.0 someone tries to work on that, but for now I don't see the point in it.
(What I mean is that, if it was as easy as flicking a switch, I'd have already done that, but it's more complex, and requires some Android 7.1 APIs, so that's why)

I get an error each time.
I was running an older version, but removed it, and still the new one will not load.

This mod is intended for users running on older versions of Android, and some functionalities may not work properly in Android 8.0 because of the backport itself... in your case, you can get the official app from APKmirror.

Some kind of phones aren't compatible with the app ( Some firmwares of HTC, MIUI, some models of Moto). I can't fix it, your firmware incompatible with app.

Call recording not supported by Google.
