SM-S550TL Root Instructions - Samsung Galaxy On5 Guides, News, & Discussion

Finally, I have managed to achieve root on this device. Below is the instructions on how I managed to root. The below steps worked for me, but there is a possibility that they won't work for you, Im not 100% sure. They should though. This is for the SM-S550TL only. Also, this will void your warranty. Only Follow the below tutorial if you are comfortable with it, READ VERY CAREFULLY! I assume no responsibility for your actions, in any way, shape, or form. You try this at your own risk, That being said, here are the instructions:
SIDE NOTE: YOU CANNOT FLASH TWRP, IT WILL LOCK YOUR DEVICE WITH "THIS DEVICE HAS BEEN FLASHED WITH UNAUTHORIZED SOFTWARE" MESSAGE. DO NOT ATTEMPT! BE VERY CAREFUL AS WELL WITH WHAT YOU DO WITH THE ROOT ACCESS, UNLESS YOU ALREADY HAVE THE STOCK FIRMWARE FROM ANOTHER SOURCE AND CAN RESTORE WITH ODIN!
1. Flash the boot.tar with the lastest odin (download for odin not included). from the following link: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B-KfJE4M0My6VnFJNTBKZmJMdlE
It will change your SElinux mode to permissive.
2. You will need to find a way to disable or block all knox packages, (I had to use the paid samsung package disabler off google play). Another alternative is use the debloater tool, (google is your friend on how to find it). although you need to be careful if going this route on what you block, unless you have the stock firmware for flashing with odin.
3. Download The latest version of Kingroot and make sure your device is either plugged in or has a 50% or higher charge.
4. Run kingroot, If your device freezes, or goes to the "kernel panic upload mode", during the root process, DONT PANIC, Pull battery and reboot into the android os, It may take anywhere from 1-5 tries to get root, (at least this was my experience).
5. Again, I assume no responsibility for you actions, you try the above at your own risk. Enjoy being a root user if the above works for you!

it is working
thank you for your instruction, finally kicked the ass of tracfone

root verified.
Device rooted, used SuperSu-Me Pro to switch from KingRoot to SuperSu, all thanks go to hydroman202

Worked for me! Thanks a million @hydroman202 and @daryl2347!!!
Now that it's rooted has anybody tried flashing anything with FlashFire or Flashify? I'd be most interested in any method to get a Stock OpenGapps package on there to replace the Samsung/TouchWiz crap.
Man, I hate TracFone! De-Bloating, de-SIMlocking and de-TouchWizzing this baby ain't gonna be easy....

SM-S550TL Step-by-Step Rooting Instructions for N00bs
Building off the excellent work of @hydroman202 and @daryl2347, I have compiled these full, step-by-step SM-S550TL rooting instructions in plain English for n00bs.
00 If you have already experimented or pranked with your device and screwed something up, you need to reflash the stock firmware via Odin (read through these educational points whether you need them already or not!!!):
00.A Create a new folder on your Windows desktop and name it "SM-S550TL". This is where you will put all the files you download and use with this device.
00.B Download Odin3 v. v3.12.3 here. Unzip the folder inside into your SM-S550TL folder.
00.C Download the firmware here and unzip ALL_TFN_S550TLUDU1APG1_S550TLTFN1APG1_CL8482018_QB10267860_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5 into your SM-S550TL folder.
00.D Run Odin AS ADMINISTRATOR (right-click > Run As Administrator).
00.E Start your SM-S550TL in Download Mode by simultaneously holding Volume-Down, Home, and Power buttons. When you get to the next screen, press Volume-Up. Now that you're in DL mode, plug your SM-S550TL into a USB port on the computer.
00.F When you see the device is connected (under ID:COM there will be a block that turns baby blue and say 0:[COMx] inside), press the AP button and navigate to your ALL_TFN_S550TLUDU1APG1_S550TLTFN1APG1_CL8482018_QB10267860_REV00_user_low_ship.tar.md5.
00.G Wait for the package to verify. When it's done, it will say "Leave CS" in the log. Press start. Wait for Odin to say "PASS!" The device will reboot. Exit Odin.
00.H Go through the device setup procedure: When signing into your Google account, do it slowly, waiting after each step. A pop-up will appear asking if you want Google to check for security threats, I strongly suggest you press Decline. (If you miss the pop-up during setup, you can turn this setting off in Settings>Google>Security>Scan device for security settings.) Skip setting up a Samsung account (unless you want loads of bloatware). Do not set up anything related to Knox, it will give you trouble later.
00.I Go into your device settings. Here take the following steps: Under Display, set the screen timeout to 10 minutes. Under Lockscreen and Security, enable Unknown Sources, then scroll down and go into Other Security Settings. Click Device Administrators, and disable (i.e. deactivate) Android Device Manager. Go back to your main Settings and scroll down to About Device, here find Build Number and tap it repeatedly until it says you have enabled Developer Options. Go back to the main Settings menu and under Developer Options, enable OEM Unlock and USB Debugging.
01 Download the the boot.tar file provided here, and save it in your SM-S550TL folder. Using Odin as per the procedure above, click AP and flash the boot.tar file. This will set your SElinux mode to permissive.
02 Download and install the Debloater Tool for Android by @gatesjunior from here on your Windows PC. Before doing anything, watch the video on that page. Run the program and I recommend you disable all the following before proceeding with the root procedure below:
ContainerAgent2.apk (com.sec.knox.containeragent2)
KLMSAgent.apk (com.samsung.klmsagent)
KnoxAppsUpdateAgent.apk (com.samsung.knox.appsupdateagent)
KnoxAttestationAgent.apk (com.sec.enterprise.knox.attestation)
KnoxBBCProvider.apk (com.samsung.android.bbc.fileprovider)
KnoxBluetooth.apk (com.sec.knox.bluetooth)
KnoxFolderContainer.apk (com.sec.knox.foldercontainer)
KnoxKeyguard.apk (com.samsung.knox.kss)
KnoxSetupWizardClient.apk (com.sec.knox.knoxsetupwizardclient)
KnoxShortcuts.apk (com.sec.knox.shortcutsms)
KnoxSwitcher.apk (com.sec.knox.switcher)
KnoxTrustAgent.apk (com.Samsung.knox.knoxtrustagent)
MyKNOXSetupWizard.apk (com.sec.enterprise.knox.myknoxsetupwizard)
RCPComponents.apk (com.samsung.knox.rep.components)
SecurityLogAgent.apk (com.samsung.android.securitylogagent)
SharedDeviceKeyguard.apk (com.sec.enterprise.knox.shareddevice.keyguard)
UniversalMDMClient.apk (com.sec.enterprise.knox.cloudmdm.smdms)
03 Download the latest KingRoot apk from here to your SM-S550TL device. Install it. Make sure your device is either plugged in or has a 50% or higher charge. Make sure you are connected to the internet through WiFi or mobile data. Run KingRoot and follow the instructions to do the root procedure. Be patient. If the device freezes, DON'T PANIC! Simply pull the battery and start KingRoot again. It may take several tries, but you'll eventually conquer it.
04 Once KingRoot says it has achieved root, go to Google Play and install Root Check by @jrummy16 here. Run it, grant supersu permission, and it should say the device is rooted and the superuser is KingRoot.
05 Cool, so far so good. Now go back to Google Play and install Super-Sume Pro by @gatesjunior from here. Run it, read carefully and follow the instructions. Once complete you will have installed SuperSu by Chainfire and uninstalled KingRoot (thanks, KingRoot, it's been good to know ya!).
06 Run Root Check by JRummy again. Now it should confirm that you have root via SuperSu. It might ask if you want to install BusyBox. It's up to you, JRummy is a reliable developer. But I recommend you go to optional step 07 below.
07 Optional: Go back to Google Play and install BusyBox by @Stericson (free or pro) and install the latest BusyBox.
08 If you follow these instructions perfectly, you'll be in business.... But it's your responsibility and yours alone if you mess it up. Don't blame us. :good:

All was well until I got to this point, I installed Super-Sume Pro and it just keeps saying "processing please wait". I then installed SuperSu from the playstore and was unable to get it to remove KingRoot. First time go with rooting, not sure what the hangup is. I've been able to do what I need to do, but I'd like to remove KingRoot if possible. Any thoughts?
Also, SuperSu won't update the binaries. I don't know if it's because KingRoot is still installed or not. RootCheck shows SuperSu as the primary root application. Again, kind of a noob with android.
Edit: noob figured it out...

How did you manage to solve it? I've done exactly the same as you but when trying to run Sumer-Sume for the first time, the window opens and closes not even after a second. It just don't stay open, automatically closes without letting me do anything.
Can someone help me out on this one?

Uninstall Super-Sume Pro. Re-download and install from the Play Store. Try again. If you didn't install it from the Play Store it won't work. Spend the 4 bucks.

This looks really rough, but apparantly there is a boot.img, then other cracking tools can be used.
I'd love to try it, but... well... my chinese is limited to google-translate.
The URL won't post so this is a big hint:

I think I got it root on g302d u8812d

Currently on that URL is a approx 14 MB rar file download, I _think_ I just got it sorted!
I don't have time now to make this pretty, but some others who want to hack. add links, etc feel free to work with this...
in fact I dont know if all these steps are required.
General Broad steps (ymmv, you are doing this to your own dang phone, dont blame me for bricks viruses or earthquakes etc, etc/ etc).
on your computer, uninstall adb, pdanet and any other tools that use the adb drivers and dlls, reboot as needed.
install the mt6575 drivers (I forgot whether I downloaded these or if they were part of the 14 meg file) reboot as needed
power down phone.
remove battery from phone, don't plug into computer.
launch flash_tool.exe
load the included scatterloading file MT6575...emmc.txt
press the download button
plug in phone to usb
put battery in phone
watch the blinkinlights for a few seconds, wait for the big green O
then I disconnect phone and ensure power down.
install SDK
power up phone and plug in
test adb (adb shell)
kill adb server
download and install superoneclick
download extra superoneclick exploits
launch superoneclick
click the big root button.
Test (you can use something like rom manager)
Now people should be able to try to install various CWMs.
I haven't gotten that far yet.

installed gapps 20110828 (via mobileuncle recovery) and I now have a market that doesn't force-close!
still getting "partners" to force close, but a lot of other stuff is working.
Great work!!! I'll try this on my phone or wait until is working?
Are the recovery and rom in chinese?
Thank a lot for testing.

It is working very well.
No need for you or anyone to wait.
Just please know what you are doing (do you have basic understanding of recovery mode, roms, factory mode, and the dangers) in other words, if this is your first time doing this on a phone.. ask someone who knows what they are doing for help because I am not able to put together a documented procedure, but the findings above should allow someone else to do that. Additionally, I have no idea of the legality or safety of the software at URLs above.
conceptually this is 4 steps
1) flash boot.img that will allow cracking
2) crack to get SU installed
3) install Mobile Uncle Recovery mode and app
4) install gapps.
The MobileUncle recovery mode is Chinese, But the mobileuncle app is kinda like rom manager, it lets you set up what happens at next boot so you don't need to read the chinese in recovery text mode.
The patched rom is working for me in English with root, no detectable problem except FC on google partners (and I can't tell if that actually does anything). Remember this is not a new rom, just a patch to the huawei rom that allows a root crack.
There are about 4 chinese apps that I am afraid to uninstall..
one appears to be a chinese app store too, kinda fun to browse
gapps must be flashed with mobileuncle recovery (don't just unzip them)
US google play store is working.
I am fully migrated to this phone now and use it for daily work.
Good luck, and remember that this is why you got an android instead of a i-Thing.
Thanks thanks again. I'll try it and don't worry this is not the first time to modify a mobile. If it is all ok i posted here.
Working u8812d
Ok... It was successfully working on my phone. I have root and change recovery and then installing gapps. Almost of the apps is working of the play store. Thanks again and hope there is a release of ICS or JB rom for our phones.
See ya!!!:good:

Thanks for the steps though the problems are still coming thick and fast, I have a new U8812D from China, no China unicom splashscreen but lots of 'bloatware' still. I've been trying for days to root this thing and nothing's working.
I'm pretty sure I need root access becasue the phone is currently preventing me from adding my Gmail account and using the google play market and apps, other bits and pieces like assigning incoming call number to a contact are supposedly fixed by getting the google thing right. The phone is good but I'm missing alot of functionality.
If the above description sounds like rooting is not the solution, please let me know and point me to the right forum, if rooting is the obviously the only way out, I'm hoping to clarify a few step in the above walkthrough to help me and others.
1. I cant install the mt6575 MediaTek drivers, installing directly gives error 'driver cannot be installed this way' there is no COM-LPT port in my device manager to attach it to as a manually locate driver, I can add a COM port with add remove hardware but I have Code 10 error, device cannot start and doesnt seem to accept the mt6575 driver as an update even when forced to it with locate new driver, apparently this is no problem from other forums, still bugging me. Maybe I havent the right files? how do i get COM-LPT ports to show up properly?
2. when 'install m6575 drivers ... reboot' is the phone plugged in? to what device do we install the drivers or should it be automatic?
3. launch flash tool, i have located two versions of the MT6575...emmc.txt file, one delivers error, block count fail and has no files paths for the item in the main table, the other refuses to open, giving error, incorrect scatter file format. The latter has considerably more data in it when read in notepad.
4. Becasue of these errors, SP flash tool does not download to phone. all subsequent steps fail.
Assuming the initial flashing steps are successful, I must to use SuperOneClick to root the phone, where do I find the extra exploits needed? or are tehy automoatically sourced by SOC? Succeeding the root access step, I assume i can freeze the apps causing problems to my google sign in or delete them. Or could I please be directed to the ATTPlain rom mentionned by JohnnyParanoia in 'Almost All Huawei Stock Roms (Firmware) - Updated 28/06/12' board.
Since so many of the resource files I've trawled through are bung, anyone who can point me to reliable/tested files known to work with the U8812d I'd greatly appreciate in on top of the great appreciation I already have for your patience with a Noob. I located the 14Mbit .rar file mentioned above but not all parts worked, had to dl the different programs individually and some files had to hunt down form fileshare sites.
Lastly, i am using an HP laptop, Windows 7 64-bit, Thanks in advance.

[Root] [Guide] Obtain root via towelroot

Getting root on the stock 4.1.2 rom is very simple with towelroot.
Steps:
[1] Go to http://towelroot.com/ on your Relay and click the picture in the middle of the page, it will download an apk to your device.
[2] Install the apk you just download (you may have to allow unknown sources in settings)
[3] Click the make it rain button and wait 15 seconds. Your device will now reboot
[4] You are now rooted!
[5] Optional: Go to the Play Store or this thread and download the latest version of SuperSU.
[6] Optional: Launch the SuperSU app and follow the instructions there. If you do not have a custom recovery installed, do not choose that option for installation.
If you are still having trouble, follow this video. It is for the S5, but it is done exactly the same way!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Q5gZLkvuyE
I was brain-farting after a long day at work and I just couldn't get the Relay rooted using Odin. Switched ports, different cables, CWM, TWRP, side-load whatever .... towelroot got me rooted in two minutes. Would have been 1 minute but I didn't open it after downloading, so I had to do it again to "make it rain".
Of course, then I found out I was not entering download mode correctly using home key+vol down key+pwr key - guess I was so used to hold both vol up and vol down at same time on other phone. So .... didn't need it in the long run, but saved me some time and I donated to developer as well.
Thank you.
I have successfully obtain root and install Super SU using the instructions.
Paul
I realize that this is my first post, and that this is a bit of a necro, but I can verify that towelroot worked on my stock Relay SGH-T699, with Android 4.1.2
One thing I should mention is that viewing towelroot.com in Firefox on my phone resulted in just viewing a text file of the .apk instead of saving it as .apk. I had to download it on my PC and transfer it over. After that, it worked as advertised.
I would probably have more posts, but this actually solved my needs without me needing to ask anything.
Worked great for my Relay!

[TUT][ROOT+CWM+GAPPS]InFocus M512 Root, CWM and GApps tutorial.

So there is a bargain chinese 4G phone called the 'InFocus M512'.
The problem with it is that it comes without Google Apps and also is not rooted (sometimes is). Also it does not have CWM Recovery.
So this quick tutorial shows you how to root, install CWM Recovery and install google apps on the M512.
I'm not responsible for any damage
Rooting:
Method 1
1.Go to settings>>Security>>Check Unknown Sources tap OK.
2.Download this file.
3.Install
4.Run and tap 'get root' or somthing like that.
5.Delete KingRoot and some chinese app, but DO NOT DELETE KingUser!
6.Done!
Method 2
Flash CWM Recovery using the 2nd method from this post. If you have rooted usign the first method use method 1 from that post.
Download UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip (i used 2.46)
Reboot into CWM.
Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip, press power button
Reboot now
GApps
1.Download this zip file
2.Reboot into CWM.
3.Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select the file, press power button
4.Reboot now.
How to delete KingUser (only if you have SuperSU and it is working)
Download ES File explorer, enable root explorer, go to /system/app and delete KingUser.
So this is how to get root, cwm and gapps on the m512.
First Method no good for me
I put the kingroot file in the adb tools folder and used the install command. It wasn't clear from the above whether the phone needed to be in recovery or some other mode so I tried a few times, in recovery mode and again just connected as an mtp device in the normal way. Either way the result was the same, it said "Invalid APK File: KingRoot.......".
I will have a go at the CWM thing next.
I am still on the 103A ROM that the phone came to me with - I have been trying, on and off, without success to update and then root it , for months.
When trying to flash an update ROM it tells me that the update package has unexpected contents and the there is an error in the update file and then says "Status 7". You can read all about my lack of success on this forum under the threads M512 started by Galaxy Why.
I'm trying, I really am....
Let me start by saying thanks for making the effort to post what you know and so to help people like me, however.
I tried to follow the method 2 (as I don't have root) from your other post (the one linked to above with the words "the 2nd method from this post" but got stuck.
Your instructions in normal my comments in italics.
Method 2: (No root)
1.Connect your phone via USB to your PC. OK
2.Enable MTP. OK
3.Enable USB Debugging. Settings>Developer Options> tick USB Debugging. OK
4.On your computer, 2 drives will appear: One of them is a CD-Rom which contains all drivers. OK
5.Click on that CD-Rom and it will install all drivers. It doesn't, or it may do, but what it definately does is asks me to put a disc in the drive and tries to do some kind of dir_all in windows explorer - I would post a screenshot here but this page only allows URL's- and I'm not sure how to go about that.. but I think I've managed to upload a screenshot....
After waiting for 5 minutes or so to see if something would happen as the green progress bar ground to a halt but the busy circle continued I hit the cancel button on the "please insert a disc dialogue" and then ploughed on anyway ....
6.Plug phone in again. Now this had me confused, I assume you mean unplug AND THEN plug the phone in again.
7.Download the .ZIP file and extract it somewhere. Which/what zip file do you mean exactly?? I couldn't get past this.
8.Click on _install_cwm_6.0.5.1.cmd
9.Your phone will ask you something, just tick "always allow from this computer" and hit OK.
10.Your phone will reboot into DL Mode, then it will reboot again.
11.Recovery is installed.
It's late and I'm tiring so sorry if missed something obvious. Any advice?

Let me start by saying thanks for making the effort to post what you know and so to help people like me, however.
I tried to follow the method 2 (as I don't have root) from your other post (the one linked to above with the words "the 2nd method from this post" but got stuck.

Looks like you don't have a adb driver
And... why do you want to root your phone? Installing CWM is not root required.
M512 comes with a unlocked bootloader, just boot into bootloader and you can flash anything you like.
I made a customized stock rom based on version 2280, bloatwares removed and Google Play framework included. (You can download the apps back from Play Store, if you needs those)
Now the phone has 2.09GB free spaces :victory:
If you were interested on it, I can upload it and give you a link.

N00b Friendly Guide: Convert F350S/K/L to D838

Some great news guys. On my third and fourth phones (not tries, PHONES), I finally found an incredibly easy approach to get the KDZ flash/upgrade working without having to downgrade or play around with download mode. Here are the steps I took , one by one. These steps have been confirmed on two phones: the first was the F350L running stock Kit Kat 4.4.2, and the second was an F350L running stock Lollipop (F350L20d, 5.0.1 Lollipop). The variations in both steps vary slightly depending on your OS, so pay attention please =3.
Requirements!!!
Before continuing, please ensure you have the LG Drivers installed as well as LG Flash Tool 2014. Both can be found here.
Additionally, you want to have the latest peachy clean KDZ already downloaded. I've used the D83820DTW, the very first one, very successfully all four times. Get the KDZ of your choice here.
Onwards!
Step 1:
Kit Kat Users: Root using Stump Root. After hitting Grind it'll ask to Brute Force. Do it, wait a while, and reboot (used latest APK at the time, v1.2.0; One Click Root and IORoot failed me).
Lollipop Users: Follow the instructions as written here. DO NOT SKIP STEPS! For rooting Lollipop you will have to use download mode, no other way around it sadly.
Step 2: Install SuperSU (if on Kit Kat, Lollipop gets it with root), Kernel Adiutor (or any build.prop editor), and Busybox (required for Kernel Adiutor, skip if not needed).
Step 3: Once required Apps are installed (and you've rebooted for necessary SU access), change the following build.prop configurations:
ro.product.model = LG-D838
ro.product.name = b1w_open_tw
ro.product.device = b1w
ro.build.target_operator = OPEN
ro.build.target_country = TW
(much thanks to @tjlabais for this valuable info)
If you installed Kernel Adiutor, launch it. BusyBox must have installed properly. On the left main menu is a build.prop editor, so tap that. Kernel Adiutor has a nice search function that lets you filter the build.prop variables, so search for "prod" and "get" for the first three and last two parameters respectively ("prod" without quotes will get you all settings that have prod in them; some scrolling required, but a lot less than without filtering; "get" yields only three or four results anyway).
Step 4: Reboot after editing build.prop and check after reboot if these variables have changed. The new values should be there now.
Step 5: Connect the USB cable and set the USB mode to MTP.
Step 6: Launch LG Flash Tool 2014 on your PC (run as admin to be safe; UAC turned off in Win8/8.1/10 never gives true admin access)
Step 7: Select Type as 3GQCT and PhoneMode as DIAG. Select the KDZ file. It'll look something like the attached file at the bottom of this post. Then click Normal Mode. In the new window, click Start. NOTE: This mode WILL wipe your data. I've done it four times now, it's legit, you WILL lose your data.
Step 8: A new window shows up. Country doesn't matter, but language in my experience does. Set it to English so that the output in the tool is all English, otherwise you'll get a bunch of question marks or Korean. Click OK.
Step 9: In the flash tool, the first process will complete after a minute, verifying Windows and whatnot. Then it'll give you an error saying that the connection the to server failed. OK that, and wait a few seconds. The button towards the bottom right will say exit at first, but then change to retry. Hit retry. If the software's frozen and not responsive, it doesn't matter, don't close it. If you're keeping an eye on your phone, you'll see that some magic's started.
Step 9.5: The phone will auto restart into download mode at the right COM port. No fiddling in Device Manager needed. The KDZ will upload automagically at this point.
Step 10: Watch the magic on your phone~
Step 10.5: At this point it's safe to leave the flash tool alone. Once your phone restarts into normal operation, your flash tool MIGHT crash. It does with me (Windows 10 Pro 64-bit). That's fine, cancel and close whatever was open. You're all set =3
Some tips: If your phone isn't connecting to Play Store for whatever reasons, just download the needed APKs (Kernel Aduitor and whatnot) and copy/paste/install them directly on the phone. My sister's Lollipop phone wasn't playing nice, probably because it was outside South Korea. Also, when you need to do lots of typing, this program called Vysor makes life easy by allowing you to control your android device remotely via USB. Just need USB debugging enabled and the PC needs to be authorized. Vysor is a Google Chrome app, so get it from Chrome's market. It's totally free, and damn useful.
Additional Information:
Root Access:
Pre-requisite: USB Debugging enabled and a USB data cable
As stated earlier, follow the instructions here completely to the letter, and you'll be a happy camper (mucho gracias to @Unjustified Dev).
NOTE: Make sure that when you run the Send_Command exe, it must be on the Com Port matching your DIAG mode.
Enabling LTE:
Pre-requisite: Root access with SuperSU and a build.prop editor (I prefer Kernel Adiutor, since I can use filter functions; requires installed and functional BusyBox install)
After upgrading to TW Lollipop, your phone is almost ready for LTE usage. However, the OS has the LTE option disabled. If you go into the hidden menu you'll see that the LTE options are still there though. Contrary to many online spec sheets that said that the F350L only supports three bands, I was able to get an unlisted band, Band 3 (1800 MHz), working fine. I managed to enable LTE by changing the following option in build.prop on Lollipop:
ro.telephony.default_network=12
Restarted and the Mobile Data / Mobile Networks / Network Mode option finally showed GSM/WCDMA/LTE Auto. Since then I've been enjoying LTE =).
PS: Don't forget to input your carrier's APN settings! Google is your friend, otherwise just call up your carrier's hotline and get the info.
Custom Recovery:
Pre-requisite: USB Debugging enabled, a USB data cable, and root access with SuperSU
The upgrade process discussed here doesn't take place through a custom recovery, only KDZ. As a result, even if you have root, you won't be able to flash zips, make dumps, or clear your cache so much.
Follow the instructions in this post to install the Chinese CWM recovery. After that, download this apk and install it (credit goes to @Hattori Suzuki for this valuable info). After installing this APK, run it and grant it root access. Tap the Flash Recovery option and you'll now have PhilZ recovery in English (thanks goes to @pereradileepa for this valuable resource)
Viper4Android:
Pre-requisite: Custom recovery and root access
I'm personally a big consumer of music, and can't do without having some tunes on the go. I found the sound on the G Pro 2 to be a bit too lacking in bass (especially when compared to my Optimus G E970), so I gave this a whirl. What ultimately worked for me was this mod (thumbs up goes to @AndrasLOHF for a wonderful contribution). Download it, put it on your G Pro 2, flash it via custom recovery, and V4A is installed.
To check whether or not V4A is working, open Viper4AndroidFX from the app drawer, tap on the three dots in the upper right corner, and go to Driver Status. If it says NEON Enabled: Yes and Status: Normal, you're good to go.
IF NOT, YOU MUST SET SELINUX TO PERMISSIVE!
There's a great app that you can get here that'll do so automatically for you, so just install that, set the mode to permissive, reboot, and check the driver status again (applause to @MrBIMC for such a great app). You should be good to go. Note that V4A doesn't work on all apps, at least for me. Google Play Music and Orpheus are the only apps that get processed by V4A. Neutron, Winamp, Onkyo HF Player, and N7Player just didn't play nicely with V4A. Ah, I think the YouTube app also works with V4A, I did notice a difference.
Tip: I hate how Play Music doesn't have folder capabilities, so I used N7Player to put music into the que, save it as a playlist, then open it in Play Music. For some reason, upon restarting the phone the playlist would disappear, so I opened the playlist I made from N7Player in Play Music and added it to a new playlist in Google Play Music that actually persists. For example, I save a que in N7Player as a playlist called Temp. I then open Play Music and find the Temp playlist in My Library. I open the playlist, tap the three dots and add the playlist items to a new playlist in Play Music, for example Favorites. When my phone restarts, the Temp playlist disappears from Play Music (it's still there in N7Player) but my Favorites playlist sticks just fine. Voila~
Happy headbanging.
A note on PhilZ Recovery: Any zips that I install give an annoying error about loki-fying. Ignore it, ultimately the zip that you wanted to install DID get installed. I've tested this with Xposed as well as V4A, and both cases I got an error on loki-fying. I tried turning it off in PhilZ but I have no clue what I was doing wrong, it wouldn't turn off, it still has an X in the Lokify option. Oh well, as long as it works.
Cheers!
Blitz9826
PS: Sorry if the details become too "thick." I personally hate having to read between lines wondering "WHAT DID YOU SEE AND WHAT DID YOU DO?!" I hope nobody reading this experiences such a feeling, thus the verbose details.
Hi, blitz. So basically you flashed the D838 TOT and DLL files on your F350 to get it running D838 KitKat and then flashed the D838 V20d Kdz to get D838 Lollipop, right?
I own a D838 and I'm familiar with flashing via TOT+DLL so, if I understand correctly, I could flash my upcoming F350 with the D838 TOT+DLL files -I used to return from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2- to turn it into a D838...
If so, will I have to make any changes in the buildprop beforehand, as mentioned in other posts? Or just go ahead with the TOT+DLL flashing?
Thanks for your help
Answered in parent post, but basically yes you can =3
I just took my colleague to the shopkeeper, he bought one too! Third phone is ready for playing around with. I'll update as I try a new approach. This time, I'll edit the build.prop file directly (last time I didn't on my mom's phone), and like with my mom's phone, set the USB mode to LG Software (I forgot to mention this part on the last post because..... 36 hours of no sleep does that to you), and let's see how that fares. If it does a KDZ restore directly from stock 4.4.2 to the Taiwanese 20d firmware then hooray. Also for fun's sake, I'll leave the COM port alone first. If it doesn't work then I'll change the COM port to 42. Still no then 41. And if still nothing, ffs, TOT-then-KDZ it is. More info tomorrow.
This phone is costing 18,000 PKR (that's like a little less than 180 USD).... for THOSE specs, holy ****.
Great news! Check the first post, I'm updating with new super-easy-as-fudge instructions.
Tried This With My F350S & This Works Perfectly. I Have Flashed This Download D83820D TWN Via Philz Touch Recover. Everything is Fine. Thanks Man.

Hi, tsohel. What did you do exactly? Today I received a F350S and, after editing the build.prop, tried flashing via zip and got Lollipop working but lost the double touch to wake up the screen. Also tried going back to KitKat via tot+dll and then flashed kdz with same result... I even installed Tizen 7.1 to no avail. I can't think of anything else to do, and knock-on and knock-code are a must for me...
Any ideas? Thanks

First Flash This KDZ F350S20b_00.kdz & Then Changed Everything This Tutorial Said & Then Flash The ZIP D83820D TWN Via Recovery lollipop-hoangtnt. Thats It. Everything is Working Great.
@inhalt sorry to hear you're having such a problem. I've done four F350L phones with the same 20d TWN firmware and two of those with the aforementioned method, none have lost the double tap to wake. Can you share your exact steps that you took please?
Well, I took them all I refreshed via TOT+DLL and then upgraded via KDZ, ZIP... They all worked but then I had the screen issues. Besides, reception is crap either on KitKat or Lollipop
I just think the phone is defective. Will be sending it back to the seller most likely, cause I've run out of ideas
I was actually thinking that might be the case. I didn't want to jump to conclusions though since you said it in a way that made it sound as if the double tap to wake and knock code were working stock when you first got it. So keep us posted when you get another phone.
Thank you for this complete guide.

I don't really understand what you mean by download mode doesn't do anything. Immediately after converting to d838, do not connect to the internet. neither wireless nor data connection. Put on developer option and USB debugging. plug via USB to a connected pc and make sure all drivers are installed. use an online root tool like kingo or root genius. after root success. go to settings and reset the phone. After reboot, you can then connect and install supersu from play store. Thats what I did. The problem I have now is I can't install any custom recovery.
I was saying that when i try to flash anything like rooting or rom on download mode it doesnt start the process. The only way that i did was by returning to kk then install lollipop again. I had the same problem with instaling an recovery but i followed these steps and worked. Heres the link:

[GUIDE]ROOT, TWRP] AT&T Alcatel Ideal (4060A) Updated Root & Custom Recovery Tutorial
AT&T ALCATEL IDEAL 4060A
UPDATED GUIDE ON ROOT &
INSTALLUNG TWRP RECOVERY
THANKS & MENTIONS:
First & foremost, I want to give thanks and credit to @faxanidu for making TWRP possible for this device. His Super Guide broke new ground on this device and first made root & custom recovery possible.
NOTE:
Contrary to popular belief, this device DOES NOT have a locked bootloader. Thus, bootloader unlocking is not required as a prerequisite to this guide. However, I can only confirm that this guide works on firmware builds from 2016. If you have a build number from 2017, and this guide does not work for you, please refer to @faxanidu's "Super Guide" for rooting & installing TWRP on your device.
DISCLAIMER:
The procedures in this guide will void your manufacturer and/or service provider warranty. Furthermore, these procedures carry an inherent risk of bricking or damaging your device beyond repair. By proceeding any further, you are absolving me of any liability in the event you damage or render your device inoperable. You -- and you alone -- are solely responsible for your device. However, in the event of such misfortune, I will provide any and all support within my abilities. Please stay on topic in this thread and treat all other members with the same respect that you want to receive. Off topic posts will either be ignored or reported to an XDA moderator.
INSTRUCTIONS:
These procedures do not require a PC. The only requirements are your device, an internet connection, and an ability to follow simple instructions.
1. On your Alcatel Ideal, go to Settings, About Phone, and tap Build Number 7 or 8 times until Developer Options is enabled. In Developer Options, tick OEM Unlocking & ADB Debugging. Now go to Settings, Security, & enable Unknown Sources;
2. Open the browser and go to https://kingroot.net and download the most recent KingRoot apk. Install the apk, open it, and select "Try Root" when prompted to do so. Wait for KingRoot to root your device. If it fails, reboot & try again until successful;
3. Next, go to the Play Store & download the Official TWRP App. (It is free of charge) Install & open the app. Grant it superuser permissions when prompted.
4. Download the 4060A TWRP custom recovery image from the below link, and save it to either internal storage or to your device's external micro SD card.
5. Open the Official TWRP App again & select the "Flash TWRP" option. In the menu you will see an option to select a file to flash. Navigate to the twrp.img file you downloaded and select it. Now select the option to flash the file to recovery.
6. Open a browser and go to http://www.supersu.com/download. Download the latest SuperSU zip and save it to your device's internal or external storage.
7. Now open the KingRoot app, go to app settings, and select uninstall KingRoot. Proceed with the uninstalling process and be sure to uncheck the option to save root backup.
8. Once KingRoot is uninstalled, open the Official TWRP App again, select "Flash TWRP" to get to the next menu, and tap the app settings menu in the upper left of the screen. Select Reboot Recovery. Welcome to TWRP. Again, thanks @faxanidu
9. Select INSTALL from TWRP main menu. Navigate to the SuperSU zip file you downloaded in Step 6, select the file and swipe to install it.
10. Select Reboot and then System from TWRP main menu. You now have TWRP custom recovery and full root with SuperSU binaries installed.

It works!
EN: (GoogleTranslate)
It works, at first I did it with some fear and I stayed several times in the last step, I had to turn off the cell phone and start the recovery mode (TWRP) manually to install the supersu. (Before I made a copy of the system to be sure). The device is 100% root and I have restarted several times to make sure everything is fine, and indeed everything goes in luxury. Thank you very much, my friend. (Y)
i can confirm this procedure works with a device bought a few days ago. so the phone's bootloader doesn't check for signed images? in my old atrix days, the bootloader had to be unlocked first in order to be able to flash custom roms.
However before doing this i tried to update the phone's to the july 2017 patch and the update tool couldn't find any updates. Don't know if it's because i haven't activated at&t service (i am not using this as a phone). Is there any plan to release a stock rooted rom with the latest official patches?

It's not mine, just pointed it out. To be honest, if you want the best, feature rich camera for this phone (imo), just go to the play store and get Open Camera, it's what I've used for a long time and works great.
Everything went fine until step 8. After uninstalling Kingroot I opened the TWRP app and and go to top left and tap the three lines and select "Reboot" and that takes me to a screen that says "Reboot Recovery" on top and "Reboot System" on the bottom. Neither one do anything, so I'm not able to go onto step 9 to install the SuperSU-v2.82-201705271822.zip file. Any idea if I'm doing something wrong?

That's a good question and, unfortunately, one to which I have yet to find an answer. However, if you are soft bricked or bootlooping, there is a stock firmware package for this device which can be flashed using the Qualcomm firmware installation utility (QFIL). Search Google for the package. If you are unable to find it, PM me and I'll upload mine and give you a link. Using that package will at least let you get back to stock condition and start over with rooting and TWRP.

When you get a chance could you send me the package and how do flash it
Yes I'll go ahead and upload it to my Google Drive account. It comes with full instructions and links for drivers, etc. I'll post the link here once it's uploaded.
I uploaded the package to my Mega File account, because the Google servers seem tediously slow today. Here is a link for the Alcatel Ideal (4060A) Android 5.1.1 stock firmware package.

The package includes basic instructions and links for what you need. But here is a full comprehensive guide on using the Qualcomm QFIL flashing utility, which also includes updated links on Qcomm drivers and the QFIL utility package.
