Hello everyone,
today i switched from the german XEG MM Firmware to the latest BTU Nougat one, all with CSC change factory reset and re partition to get the CSC into effect. Had to factory reset anyways, since i always do it after some months, so why not update and test Nougat, while at it.
While everything except VoLTE/WifiCall (which are to be expected not working) works perfectly, i do however have a small problem with 1 App only, namely WhatsApp.
I've done a Cloud and Local Backup before the Update and neither are restoring on the Nougat OS, tested with older / same and even a newer beta from the APK itself.
The backup is recognized in size and according to the SQL extract should not be corrupted, haven't seen through every chat though (Cloud Backup size 660MB, chat file 22MB <- too big maybe?).
So my question is, does anyone have the same problem as i do? Is it a Nougat Filesystem / WhatsApp Database Key change due to the upgrade?
If you had the problem aswell, did you solve it without a downgrade or am i alone with it? The MM Key works on local backup, though i haven't yet pulled a "new" key to verify yet.
Tried:
Install various APK's, older/newer and same version
Factory Reset w/ clearing cache via recovery mode after flashing
Give the app permissions before launching
Remove Google Account to restore from local backup
Since i now have to wait 13h to verify with their servers again due to my personal troubleshoot, i figured i could ask here
I'm grateful for any tips, otherwise i might downgrade to MM again and hope the problem fixes itself, though i'd like to have the features of Nougat now and not in 2-3months, given previous release schedules of my carrier.
edit:
- I've just had an idea, while you use your phone number to verify. Mine does not display under the phone settings -> Device information -> Own Number. This might be due to the CSC change, but should not be relevant, since the actual process is done via messaging right?
Some additions to above text.

Hi - I have the stock rooted EE4 ROM, and I needed to do a factory reset this afternoon. Before the reset, I backed up all my apps with MyBackup Pro.
While it restored mostly OK, I seem to be stuck now.
A number of my apps show that they need to be updated.
However, my Market app is the old one (probably the one that was embedded in the ROM). Now, whenever I try to update (or, install) any of my apps, the download just seems to abort after a second, and none of my apps are getting updated/installed.
It doesn't matter if it is a new or old app - nothing gets downloaded. I do have 3G/4G data available, since I can browse OK, and the Market does show apps in its GUI.
How do I fix this?
Thanks ...

Go settings=>applications=>manage applications=>all applications=>market and clear data on the market. Also if you used the factory reset through settings=>privacy, you should never do this from a custom ROM. You should only use that option from a stock ROM.
Awesome, Landshark! That worked!
If I could "thank" you 5 times, I would!
Cheers!
Hi there
Have strange phone behavior wondering if this is a well known issues or just my damaged phone. I googled all these issues but nothing helped yet.
Phone: SM-N910U
Made in china
Date: 2015-07-08
Initially there was Android 5.0 with root (!) other than this phone was new. I didnt test it much but it had crashes on TouchWiz.
Android 5.1 issues:
I have installed latest Sweet ROM v18 with Android 5.1
First it was hard to add Google account since this application always crashed after 20-30seconds.
Also Settings -> Application -> Running crashed every 2 time i used it.
Then I was not able to use several important for me applications due to crashes: Viber, Weatherbomb, Anki Droid etc.
I did factory resets, reinstalls, nothing helps.
Thinking it is 5.1 incompatibility I have try Android 5.0 (Sweet ROM v16 and v15).
Now applications started to work except Viber. But now I had TouchWiz crashes every time I want to put something on home screen. Same crashes on Settings->Applications->Running.
At last I have try 4.4 (Sweet ROM v8.7) and everything was fine for a while. Then letters start disappearing in some application including system apps. It looks like Font rendering issue and if I change Font in setting it fixes it for some time but later it happens again.
I did all stuff like use all options in Advanced Wipe in TWRP.
Nothing helps.
I just not did Format Data, is it safe to do this?
(I remember I have lost partitioning on old S1 doing this in the past)
So I want to ask which of these options looks more related to my problem:
1. Bad ROM (I have try 4 custom and one official ROM so how other people use them then?)
2. Damaged Phone (what kind of damage can cause such random issues?)
3. There are some software from original provider or something, which can't be deleted by wipes and it reinstalls every time I setup new ROM. I can see some strange looking popup "Installing Software" after each ROM install and it installs Spotify app. If I do Factory reset it installs it again. I have try 5 ROMS 1 official and 4 custom and all they have this "feature". So maybe it installs something else what causing all these bugs. Can I do really deep cleanup to remove this stuff?
Thank you.
Hello
I'm trying to update from 41.2.A.7.35 to 41.A.7.53 using flashtool. I am relatively familiar with Flashtool at this point. I have installed stock firmwares a couple of times. Each time I have flashed a firmware i checked all boxes in the "Wipe" pane giving me a fresh install.
What i was curious about was, how can i prevent from formatting my drive each month when a new update rolls out. So what setting do i leave checked and unchecked in the flashtool? I'm mostly concerned with retaining apps and appdata along with settings and messages.
Thank you
I normally mark all in wipe section. Today i flash customized AU without problems.
normally no wipe neccessary

If you do not upgrade the Android version, or go from 39... to 41... or you have "strange" behavior before or after the upgrade: do not wipe anything
Some partitions like /system are overwritten anyway. If you are root you might get away with wiping cache/dalvik if anything feels strange.
When switching ROMs or upgrading Android versions I use Titanium backup to shorten the process:
- look for unsaved apps after upgrade -> bloat candidates, let TB delete deal with them after looking at the list and deciding what to let go
- restore all user apps with data
- manually restore all logins of apps that have accounts e.g. email (the time consuming part)
I use Apex launcher and its setting are restored too, so I will have a familiar look and feel even on a different ROM.
Hi,
i am using a Samsung A 2016, still working great and all but i updated my phone (small update package).
Noticed, since the update, that i am missing filters in the stock gallery app.
i'm always using the "vintage" filter and now it's gone -_-.
Google learned me that there would be a photo editor pro wich i don't have in the app.
Gallery version is 5.4.03.2
Anybody else had/have that problem or a way to get the filters back?
edit : phone is not rooted, still stock (i know right)

Sometimes, when updates are applied, there is data on the device from before the update that conflicts with things in the update, to correct it, the conflicting data needs to be wiped. Boot to recovery and wipe the cache partition then reboot.
If it still has issues after that, boot to recovery and choose the factory reset option, do the factory reset through recovery, do not use the factory reset option on the device's system settings, recovery does a much better job. You'll lose the apps you installed and their app data and you'll lose your personal data, but that's probably a good thing, backing up and restoring your data after the factory reset might also restore the stuff causing the conflict.

Dear community, I am facing several troubles with my OP7pro which I think can be quite easily handled but my knowledge is just too little.
I am running OOS 10.0.2 with Renovate ICE, rooted with Magisk and on TWRP 3.3.1-70 - stock kernel and normally encrypted. I am facing various troubles that started after upgrading from 9.5.13 tot Android 10. I do not know if they are directly related. I do have Nandroids, BUT the phone is my daily driver, also for work, and a factory reset will just take too much time.
What are the troubles you ask?
- I am not able to enter the menu Buttons&Gestures/navigation/set up navigation bar. The screen blinks and I am back in the upper menu. If I press this menu again I get a "Settings stopped". This sucks, because I want to set up my on-screen buttons
- I used to use Plus Beat in combination with RICE on Android 9. Worked perfect. Whatever I set up, Plus Beat just does not work. That sucks big time.
- I am not able to set on screen buttons to for example switch between recent apps or get anything else but horizontal recents (which is slow and to me sucks). QuickSwitch via Magisk doesn't bring anything.
NOW TO THE QUESTIONS:
I GUESS (! but am not sure!) that a factoryreset could and should solve these problems. I could and would do that, but, I need to be up and running and have my settings back quickly. Internal memory (root) I could copy to PC and paste back afterwords. But is there some way I could put my settings (in the menu) and all my apps (250+) back via Nandroid data?
I have the following things backed up in TWRP:
- Boot
- System Image
- Vendor Image
- Data
- Modem
- EFS
If I do a complete new factory set-up (for example via Maurefranio's tool), to refresh my system (I guess the failure is in there), can I put back other parts of the Nandroid to have all the rest back? Also in the menu-settings, color-setting etc. etc. etc.?
I know it sounds rooky, but I hope someone takes time to help me a little. I do use Titaninium etc. but I can't spend hours and hours on a recovery. In that case I'd probably decide to keep using the OP7pro as I do, but it's frustrating that RICE and Plus Beat don't work fully and some other errors. The usability to me is 4 out of 10 - where in Android 9 it was surely 9 out of 10.
Greetings,

Are you running a substratum theme? That could be the settings issue. But that's about all I could help with. Never restored anything using twrp on this phone. Most I've done is backup my apps with swift backup, factory reset, or MSM tool, and restore my apps.
How quickly do you need your phone up and running? You could backup with swift backup, factory reset and only restore what you need for now then do the rest when you have time.
@GeekMcLeod: no, Substratum not even installed. All this trouble started after the regular update to Android 10.
But more my question is: IF I flash the whole phone back to factory setting (not a reset because the errors might still be there so a complete whipe and re-flash) - which part of Nandroid is usefull to get SETTINGS and APPS back? Just that. The internal memory I can copy and paste back.
I really hope someone can give me a quick instruction of how this works. Much appreciated!

In that case, I would just use swift backup, backup to your device. Transfer SD card contents to your computer, factory reset. Transfer SD card files back. Swift backup can backup all apps and data. I believe that would work for what you want.
I, however, do not know what parts of the nandroid do what as I usually just don't bother with it.
GeekMcLeod: appreciate your advise, but Nandroid is there for a reason.
Is there anyone who can please help me what to do best? I mean, one of those Nandroid-partitions holds the clue, right?
I am also facing overnight Batterydrain of about 30% (from 80 to 50 in about 7-7,5 hours).
No Nandroid specialists in the house?
You need to wipe your data. Use Swift to backup apps, messages and call logs. Google will do it's best to restore settings upon setup. Your problem is almost guaranteed to be in data. If you need that data, I would recommend going back to whatever version of pie you were on before. Swift won't restore app permissions, as far as I know so be sure to double check if you restore apps with Swift.
