Question - Maintain DRM keys + Remove NFC icon - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I'm hoping this is a quick simple question (which has probably been asked many times before!)
With Android 7 being rolled out I was going to use this as a time to change my phone region (see below for why)
Am I correct that if i follow the updating process here xperiablog.net/2016/03/12/install-xperia-marshmallow-using-flashtool-and-xperifirm-guide it will preserve DRM keys and do nothing adverse to the phone?
I am looking to change the region as my SG firmware has an always on NFC icon next to the clock and there is no option to turn it off.
At the moment RU, MY, VN firmware files are available xpericheck.com/device/E6683
Does anyone know which files do not have an always on NFC icon?
Thanks in advance!

i installed Customised Australia and it doesn't have NFC icon next to clock, and you also can bring down quick settings and hold down settings icon and it will start spinning and it will activate system ui tuner, there you can remove NFC icon.

Thanks, the ui tuner is new to me.
Unfortunately there is no NFC selection there either. I think some regions dont get the option to turn it off!
I would go with Australia from what you said but it isnt an option on the Z5 Dual Sim

I tried this myself so will post answers
The MY firmware does have the always on NFC icon
The RU firmware does not
Also noted was that MY firmware can select LTE only connections. RU cannot (Must me LTE/UTMS etc...)
MY shows LTE signal bars
RU shows 4G signal bars

For the NFC icon just check this thread!

location icon - does not show GPS lock

Hi,
I hadnt seen this mentioned elsehwhere (apologies if I have missed it). The new location icon in 4.4 seems to only appear if I choose 'high acuracy' or 'device only' in locatin settings It does not appear if I choose 'battery saving'. To me this makes it look like its an indication of GPS being active even though google have said it does not mean this. Can anyone confirm they agree with me?
My second point is that there is now no way to know from a status bar icon if GPS is locked on or not. Having the 4.3 GPS icon flashing when obtaining a lock and solid once locked on was much better. That way I know for sure that GPS is being used and I know for sure when its locked on.
This is required for mapping and navigation apps to know if your location is accurate.
With 4.4 you see a location icon but for all you know the GPS may NOT be locked and your locatoin could be using less accurate wifi/mobile location.
Its another example (like the data upload/download arrows) of google dumbing down the interface and making it less usable. And lets face it, most people understand thet GPS needs a lock, who drives along using a SatNav without waiting for it to lock on!!
Lets hope a CM ROM can give us back something useful.
Scott
No one else find this a problem?
Scott
Sorry, I don't have a solution.
I just wanted to mention that I'm having the same problem.
How am I supposed to know that I got an accurate GPS lock if the icon stays the same all the time?
I think google messed up on this part.
The location icon next to the time and such is a GPS icon as it only shows up when GPS is active. If you are doing WIFI or 3G location it doesn't show up and isn't active so if it's there then it's because GPS is being used.

Google documentation says the location icon means your location is being used and it is NOT an indication of just GPS (ie could be gps or wifi/mobile location) however that is clearly wrong as you say. It only seems to appear when GPS wants to be used.
My point is that the icon does seem to only appear when GPS is in use however it does NOT indicate if GPS is locked or not. That is the real problem. we now cannot see when we have a GPS lock.

There're apps that will show you gps lock

Of course there are. But that's no use, we need a GPS locked icon in the status bar. An app is no use because as soon as I switch from the app to Google maps then I still can't see if GPS is locked.
At the moment each individual app would now have to implement some way of showing us in GPS is locked when we used to just rely on the status bar icon.
I would gather it wouldn't be to hard to port over the icon handling from JB. Edits to android.policy, framework-res and systemUI would be needed.
At first I cared about the topic, but the gps on the n5 smokes my previous devices. I obsessed over the gps for about a week after getting the n5. With gps status app I get 13of21 locked in 6 seconds or less all the time. First device I've had where I don't have to coax the gps into working with an app or some conf edit. Took me a couple weeks to learn about being able to long press location quick settings tile to toggle on/off.
good day.
With xposed and gravity mod the GPS lock/nolock icon can be seen when pulling down the tiles so that's pretty good.
I'll look out for an exposed mod that sticks the icon back in the status bar.
Annoying that Google removed it though.
I also don't understand why so much fuss was made by google and the reviewers about the kitkat location settings. They are just the same as JB but named differently, ie WiFi/mobile location is now named something like 'battery saving location'. The end result is still the same options, namely GPS only, WiFi/mobile only, or both GPS and WiFi/mobile.

Hi. I think we are both 50% right. A gps icon is displayed as you say, I wasn't aware of this, however it doesn't seem to alter between a locked/unlocked icon.
You can pull down the status bar to see if its locked though just as you can with the exposed gravity mod.

Hi - I'm also annoyed by this - the best solution I have found so far is to use GPS monitor - it has a statusbar icon which tells you how many sats you are fixed to, and more importantly the icon is red when you don't have a lock and goes green when you do.

Hide navigation bar button on International/US branded ROM?

Hey! So basically the only thing keeping me from re-branding my Chinese mate 9 is the inclusion of the hide navigation bar button that can be added. I know it's a bit weird that I'm taking that over having native English understanding for the HIVoice app, or integration with Google Assistant; but I simply use this button so often.
Could anyone confirm if this button is available on the International or US branded ROM? I believe at launch, it was not.

It is not available on international and us branded ROMs.
Additionally, I got root, changed some files, got this button on international ROM, pressed and ... never got navigation bar back. Have to factory reset and abandoned tries to hide navigation bar.

With RomAur, in Advanced Settings (the app that comes with it, not the actual "Advanced Settings" inside Settings), you can hide the navigation bar. I tried it, but once you hide it, there is no clear way of getting it back other than disabling the option and forcing the "height" change to 1 pixel +/- so that it refreshes and shows the nav bar again.

Hide NFC Icon?

Hi,
I have just flashed my carriers modem/oem files to my XZP so I can enable VoLTE. Now I have the NFC icon in the statusbar when NFC is enabled. There is not the option to disable it under display>system icons. Is there a way I can hide it without root?
Which carrier are you with?

Sorry I missed quote in xda app. I am with Optus Australia.
Pull down the quicksettings, touch the gear icon for a few seconds until it vibrates. You will now find a new entry in settings calles 'system UI tuner'.
Could you send a screen shot of the *#*#4636#*#* menu? Curious to see if the VoLTE Provisioning icon is toggled to on.

I have no doubt it's working as it's also appears on the phone app when I make/receive calls
Nice. I just wanted to see it. When I would Rey on Verizon it would never stay enabled.

Well when I got my phone it did have VoLTE when running my carriers firmware however since I wanted quicker updates I flashed the stock AU firmware but VoLTE did not work... I flashed just the OEM/modem files from my carriers firmware and it enabled VoLTE again so maybe you could try something similar
Interesting. Unfortunately, that ship has sailed. I'm on T-mobile now. Downgrade in service but my phone acts like a phone now.

Question How to quickly change (active) data SIM?

Hey guys,
I´m commuting between Switzerland and Germany and used OnePlus devices for years. On OnePlus you can comfortably change active SIM card with a tile in quick settings (pull down notification bar, where you´ve got WiFi, BT, GPS and so on). I´m now looking for an opportunity to quickly change SIM slots on my Moto G100 instead of struggling through menus. Any idea how to do so?
Cheers,
kischde
I'm having the same problem.

I'm having the same problem. Long pressing "data" toggle is the fastest way I've found, but I've also started using Macrodroid to automatically open the menu under condition geofence "reached work" or under contidion "No internet connection". It doesn't change the setting directly but it brings you to where it's just one tap.
1. Download NOVA LAUNCHER
2. In your homescreen, open widget picker
3. Drag Nova Launcher "activities" widget to homescreen
4. Go to Settings > Network & Internet
5. Uninstall Nova launcher. You don't need Nova launcher to keep the widget settings shortcut.

Any way to "install" that feature on generic LineageOS? OnePlus f...ed up badly with their Android 11 update, so I am back at custom rom'ing... Everything great so far, but I miss the quickly-switch-data-sim badly.

Question Unlocked AT&T S22 Ultra missing data ON/OFF on notification shortcuts

I need to add the data ON/OFF toggle switch from the notification shortcuts as i use it alot. Any idea on how to go about it or if changing to International ROM will help.

Has anyone a clue on how to do that? All workarounds of the past do not work anymore. Thanks in advance.
