Blinking red light - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Recently I updated my Sony XPERIA Z5 dual sim to latest android 7 provided by Sony itself. After a few hours of normal working with my phone, it suddenly lost network coverage. After a few minutes of waiting, I've restarted the phone to overcome the issue, but unfortunately the phone didn't start :/ As you may ask the battery was half full. I tried to charge the phone, but still nothing happens. The only thing that I can see visually from phone, is the blinking red light of notification led while the phone is connected to a device (PC or charger) via USB cable. So far I tried these methods to get it working, but no luck!
- Try to repair software by using Sony PC Companion
- Try to force restart the phone by holding POW + VOL UP
- Disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it again after a few minutes
- Try to reset the phone by pushing tiny button beside the sim cart slot
- Try to charge the battery outside of the phone and then connecting it to phone again
- Try to flash the firmware by holding VOL DOWN and then connecting USB cable
None of the above mentioned methods work. Can anyone help me with this issue? Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.
Extra information:
- By pressing VOL DOWN and connecting to PC via USB cable, nothing happens. No device detected by PC
- The blinking continues for various period of times! Sometimes about 10 seconds, sometimes more than 10 minutes!
- Its exact model is Sony XPERIA Z5 dual sim E6633 (if it makes any difference)
- By holding POW button while the red light is blinking, the light becomes steady red
- After the blinking stops, I can make it blink again only by holding POW + VOL UP

Thanks for your reply. As far as know, for flashing firmware using flashtool, I need to connect phone while holding VOL DOWN. As I told earlier, the OS can not detect the phone. Am I missing something here? Doesn't the OS need to detect any device for flashing using flashtool?

I've already tried that. No luck

I have the same problem with my previous Xperia z5, I think your USB port on your smartphone will not work and don't charge your phone.

I have this exact same problem now with my Z5 E6653 after attempting the latest Sony Android 7.0 update. My phone is completely unresponsive and connect be detected by my computer nor power on. It is just a blinking red light when plugged in charging.

seems like bad flash and also seems like the phone is bricked. power + volumeup button for 15sec gives three vibes, on second vibe if you release fingers IMMEDIATELY, the phone should sleep. and at this point it should connect in flashmode (PLZ USE different port on pc and original usb cable). by using latest FLASHTOOL 0.9.23.2, android N can be flashed ( .376 build is latest! )
however if the device is not connecting or responding and red led is keep blinking for seconds etc and while you connect charges it shows RED LED, it means the device is bricked. CHARGING for atleast 48hrs MAY wake the device up! the kernel is still running! untill the whole battery dischages and memory get clear, the device wont shutdown and start as fresh!
i remember it happend with my xperia ION , using rubber band trick , for 4-6 hrs , the battery can be discharged

ref https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1849170
after batter discharge, NORMAL CHARGING should start and you will have KERNEL BATTER CHARGING INDICATOR. at this point let it charge atleast to half and then RE FLASH the latest N build ( i suggest to download the rom AGAIN using flashtool 0.9.23.2 and let version 0.9.23.2 make the ftf FILE. any android N file made by version lower than 0.9.23.2 gives bootloops and or something goes wrong!

Does it got memory problem? Can i re-format memory chip ? thank you for any helps

Hi, I am fan of smaller brother Z5c,,,, but try to help, your phone is bootloader unlocked? I think it is.... that´s a big problem. If you flash it. You destroy motherboard Imei then. I have done this mistake too few years ago, but you can still enjoy only wifi fx.... or use it 4 parts.
Mine made this too.... it is fatal error. Red blink after bad flash. But I have made it work, only wifi no Imei lost forever. Try hold +volume and finger button for few seconds together, or -volume button and finger button senzor together..... maybe.... maybe it will start, but with very limited functionality.

Thanks for the info. But i dont think so, yes my phone was unlocked ,sometimes i could reflash stock fw no problem. So i dont think this is the root cause. I've tried to flash stock fw 5.1.1 to 7.1.1 but it failed sometimes at kernel.sin. or oem.sin or system.sin and flashtool show my phone was disconnected. I dont know why. I think the flash chip was bad.

Check *#*#service#*#* and test> security
On Virgin Z5 compact from original distribution it looks like this.
On many phones it will be written Rooted... and date + time. That ´s bad. And solution of root...
Factory reset Reason.......

[Q] xperia tipo supreme hard brick*HELP PLEASE*

Well, I've never hard bricked any android (so far), but i think that this is it.
I tried some swap script in init.d folder on my vengeance kernel, but after reboot (or what should be reboot) my xperia tipo didn't boot at all. Hell, it didn't even try lol
So, I tried everything: removing and inserting battery, power and vol+ pressed for reset, fastboot and flash mode on pc with vol+/vol- pressed and connecting USB, but no feedback at all- no vibration, no green or blue led, no ˝device conneced˝ in flashtool log, not even red led when charging with wall charger!
Only thing that still gives me hope is 3 red led flashing when holding power button, indicating very low power level, I suppose. This is the one and only feedback and sign of life from my phone and it's not showing when pressed power button while connected on wall charger or USB.
I have this phone on wall charger for last 3+ days, with no changes in described condition and behaviour, it had 'round 20% battery when gone brick.
I've read tens of threads involving xperia bricks, but they mostly involve removing cable connnecting motherboard and battery in order for chips to lose power and reset as condition for flashtool and stuff, BUT i figure it's for phones which battery can't be pulled out easily- which is not the case with my tipo st 21i
So, guys, PLEASE help me revive my beloved phone, if it is possible.
Be saluted, and help meee
Also, it had:
-gimlo rom v2.1
-vengeance kernel latest version for tipo-tapioca
-and, of course, unlocked bootloader
-----------
Update
-----------
I decided to try decharging battery completely. I did rubber band trick on bower button untill red led flashing 3 times then pause 1 sec stopped completely. Then I set flashtool for only kernel flashing - excluded everything but kernel - did rubber band trick on Vol- this time and connected with USB. Red led started flashing 1 time every 3 seconds for roughly 10 minutes, with no results. After that flashing stopped again, just like on wall charger. When removing USB and holding power button I can see 3 red flashes consecutively, then 1 sec pause and so on.
My hope is dying slowly, if there is anybody with any idea, please help me.
Be saluted all

If u have an incompatible kernel, the phone won t charge. Flash your ftf with flashtool. then leave on charge.

I would only if I could, but, as I said before, phone won't get into flashmode, nor fastboot. Please, read my previous posts
Tipo's lights indicate fastboot and flashboot but doesn't work
My case is also similar, i managed to flash one rom from my sdcard, which it asked for reboot, when i rebooted the phone , its not even going in CWM, even the sony logo is not appearing.
but when i connect phone in fastboot mode (Vol- button + power button and connect to pc), it green light can be seen. but the issue is, my phone does not detect on pc, even though i as sony pc companion. The same i tried by downloading pda.net drivers but nothing worked.
Please help...!!

And you tried with flashtool on your pc?
And if you have flashtool on pc and flashmode and fastboot drivers installed, and you connect your phone to pc while flashtool is ready for flashing stock rom, open device manager and see if there is any unrecognized driver. Then tell me. Also tell me if you have by accident windows 8 on your pc

You should reinstall your firmware using Sony PC companion. Download it and it will give you instructions how to repair your phone. Make sure you have all the necessary drivers installed. this is official and simple method to repair your phone
Secondly , you can alternatively use FLASHTOOL.

my phone is still bricked. when using flashtool in flashmode, connected to the PC, it repeats the following message:
INFO - For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
INFO - Device disconnected
Device connected with USB debugging off
For 2011 devices line, be sure you are not in MTP mode
INFO - Device disconnected
and the led light is red on, then off, then on ....
if i try to connect it to the power adapter, the led light is red with fast blink. And I try to use another power adapter (iphone's ), the red light is on, continuously for about 20 minutes, then off, at this time ,if i try to reconnect to the power adapter, the led is still off. after try power button or vol+ button, then the led is back again , but with the same status.
is there anything I can do with my z3? I'm desperate...
thanks a lot !!

turn off your device.
Hold power+volume up button and then connect your device via a USB. If however, the device disconnects, you should keep holding the power button and do not leave it.
Lastly, upgrade your drivers from flashtool folder!
Good Luck

you mean inserting the microusb connected with power adapter using vol+button? I tried ,but the led light still fast blinking in red.
I thought maybe the fast blinking means the phone cannot charge in.

Do this , Make sure you load all the files in flashtool and it is waiting for the device.
When it is waiting to flash, hold down power+volume key and connect it. Connecting before means, you will have to hold it for a long time
If it doesnot work, your drivers are outdated which as i suggested upgrade from flashtool folder

no;
when NOT connected: press power + vol+. After that you get two vibrations from the device, this means the device is off.
after that, hold ONLY vol+, and connect it to your PC, with Flashtool waiting for the device using flashmode.
the device will never vibrate, no response at all!
I went to customer service yesterday, they said my device is completely no response to any test and need to change the mainboard....how could a basically flash(just flash 5.0.1 with bootloader never unlocked) will result in such a disaster?! I cannot understand!!

Xperia Tipo possibly dead?

Hi,
So yesterday I dropped my Tipo, nothing major, dropped it many times before with no issues, the screen stopped working - all lights worked and the phone itself was fine, just the screen remained black. Disassembled the phone and checked connectors etc, no issues from what I could see. I decided as a last ditch attempt to try and flash it back to stock using Flashtool, flashed it with ST21i Tipo_11.0.A.0.16_UK_Generic.ftf, completed with no issues. Disconnected phone and the LED indicator was green, nothing else happened on the phone - it wouldn't turn on etc. Decided to try flashing it again however when starting up Flashtool I noticed the previous ROM used although titled for a Tipo within Flashtool it was listed as ST26i where a Tipo is an ST21i, now everytime I connect the phone to the PC it starts in MTP mode and i'm unable to flash again or do anything, plus I can't enable debugging as the phone doesn't turn on. I've also tried using Xperia Companion however that doesn't pick it up at all.
Anyone got any ideas of what I could try next?
Update
Okay just an update, left the phone and the battery died. When trying to turn it on the red led flashed - usual battery dead indicator. So I decided to try charging it, pressed the volume buttons etc and noticed the green led come on. So managed to flash it again with the correct firmware. It seems to have done something as now when it's plugged in to charge it doesn't boot up but just shows the green led, if I press the volume up button when plugging it in the led will go blue. Anyone know what I can try now? As it seems to just boot into flash mode (green led) when turning it on and nothing else.

https://forum.xda-developers.com/z3/development/root-stock-kernel-twrp-v01-test-28-09-t2889794?__utma=248941774.950623471.1412017766.1412017766.1412017766.1&__utmb=248941774.1.10.1412017766&__utmc=248941774&__utmx=-&__utmz=248941774.1412017766.1.1.utmcsr=l.facebook.com%7Cutmccn=(referral)%7Cutmcmd=referral%7Cutmcct=/lsr.php&__utmv=-&__utmk=228295838
Since the links in the thread are down it was hard for me to get the bootZ3dualmonxtest01.img file
But after an hour of googleing finally I got it from another Android forum https://mdforum.ru/showthread.php?t=16534
Then, as mentioned in the tutorial I went into bootloader / fastboot mode and entered following command
fastboot flash boot bootZ3dualmonxtest01.img
But it didn't work. Now my phone is bricked. It's powered off and I can't turn it on again
It doesn't respond to anything
Pressing Powerbutton - Nothing
Pressing Power + Volume Up/Down - Nothing
Hold Volume down and connect to PC - Nothing
Connect to 230V Adapter for charging - Nothing
ADB doesn't recognize the phone
Flashtool responds "Device disconnected"
So I can't flash back stock ROM
Please help me out. What went wrong? How can I fix it? Is it repairable or is my phone hard bricked?
Thank you for your answers
Edit:
After several hours of googleing and trying I found a solution that worked for me
Great thanks to StuartjG who posted the steps in this thread

My Z3 would not power up and no charge LED when cable plugged in. Finally found this solution on Sonymobile support website which fixed my phone!
To force the device to restart
Detach the SIM card slot cover.
Using the tip of a pen or similar object, press and hold down the small OFF button (generally indicated by the text "OFF") until the device has emitted three vibrations, and then release the OFF button. The device turns off automatically.
Charge the device until a charging icon appears on the screen.
Turn on your Xperia™ device.
If a forced restart procedure as described above doesn't succeed in turning on your device, you should try another kind of forced restart - the 2-minute restart procedure.
To force a 2-minute restart
Detach the SIM card slot cover.
Using the tip of a pen or similar object, press and hold down the small OFF button (generally indicated by the text "OFF") for 120 seconds (ignoring any vibrations), and then release the OFF button.
Charge the device until a charging icon appears on the screen.
Turn on your Xperia™ device.
I had to hold the 'off' button for about 60 seconds before the phone vibrated and sprung into life - phew!
Click to collapse
In my case there were no vibrations. I just held the button down for 120sec and it worked. Then I was able to flash back stock ROM

Xperia Z5 stuck at bootloop, restarts automatically, not charging

Hi there i have this Xperia Z5 Sov32 from January 2019 it was working fine until few days ago the battrey got low at 0% and i plugged it into wall charger after few minutes it have gone upto 17% i pressed the power button to turn the phone on but it gave me a gray screen, before i pressed the power button the charging green bars can be seen, but after i pressed the power button the screen goes grey and no xperia logo screen, then i tried to reset it, by pressing power button + volume up but no use, then tried power + volume down but not working no recovery mode, then i tried power + volume up and volume down, but nothing then i tried the little yellow button near the sim card slot for few seconds, it gave me 3 vibrates but nothing happens after it same gray screen when i try to turn the phone on. then i tried yellow button for 120 seconds, but same gray screen and consistent restarts automatically after few seconds of gray screen, then i tried xperia companion but it is giving me error that my phone is locked, well i cannot unlock the phone if it is not turning on. then i tried sony's orignal flashing tool Emma but that gave me same error phone is locked. then i tried to unlock bootloader with flash tool but no use gave some error which i cannot remember now. then i tried to flash the phone with like 8 different ftf stock files some old some new. but flash tools tells me it have flashed the phone but when i try to turn it on it is giving me same gray screen and restarts every 20 / 30 seconds. and i even tried the Sov32 ftf file downloaded from xperifirm but that gave me error that this bundle is not suitable for your device. all other generic and international versions gave no error and shows successfully flashed. but phone gave same gray screen when i turn it on. and after flashing i tried sony companion and Emma both shows my phone is still locked and not flashed, showing me same old firmware version LOL i dont know what else to do anymore since i have tried every possible trick to fix this damn device. this phone have changed my view of thinking, i have always thought sony is better then all others because i only used sony and motorola all my life. and from past 7 years i have using sony. but if i have to change my phone then i will never buy sony phone again. lost my 3 days on it, trying to fix it. previously i have xperia z and xperia mini pro they were better phones. i still have them. and they are still working. i even flashed xperia mini pro many times no issue. so what should i do now is there any other method left which i have not tried yet ? and btw please dont refer me to use carbon rom or any other rom because this goddam phone is not turning on and not charging. it restarts every few seconds while on charging. so i cannot copy some files into the phone.
