SD card 2nd partition not mounting on Redmi 1S, please help! - General Questions and Answers

Hi all, I'm using a Redmi 1S phone with 16Gb SD card. Up until a few days ago, my phone was running well on MIUI 7 ROM, was rooted and my downloaded apps linked to SD card using Link2SD app. The SD card had two partitions, one 12 GB FAT32 main partition and one 4 GB 2nd partition, also FAT32 format.
A few days ago, an app update caused my phone to brick, which I subsequently fixed by flashing the redmi 1S ROM to my phone. The phone is now updated to MIUI Global 8.1, with android version 4.4.4. However, after rooting the phone and trying to link my apps to SD card 2nd partition again, Link2SD kept saying that mount scripts had been created and I needed to reboot the phone to mount the 2nd partition. However, after rebooting, the same message would appear, indicating that the 2nd partition failed to mount.
I tried to fixed this using the Aparted app ( which I used to partition the SD card before) and reformatted the SD card so the 2nd partition is in ext2 format, but the same messages and refusal to mount occurred. I then reformatted the 2nd partition to ext4, but same issue occured again. The 1st partition does show as mounted, but the 2nd partition cannot be detected at all by Link2SD.
Appreciate any advice on how to resolve this. Thank you!

[Q] Can't figure out SD Card Partitioning with Link2SD

I'm just wondering if anyone else has been able to make a second partition on their O3D/Thrill. I'm not sure if this problem I'm having is a limitation to the phone, or rom.
I'm using an LG Thrill with v20c baseband, Prometheus V1.4 rom.
I'm following this guide here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
I have a 32gb micro sd. I've made my 2nd partition 10gb as ext2. When I put it in the phone it reads it, says it's ready to read/write media (in notifications bar). I then go to link2sd, it automatically asks me if the 2nd partition is ext2, ext3, ext4, or fat32/fat16. I tried ext2 and it says:
"Mount script cannot be created. mount: mounting /dev/block/vold/179:18 on /data/sdext2 failed: Invalid argument.
I then put it back into my computer and formated to fat32, same thing, then ext4, same thing. Each time I put it back into my computer Gparted sees the 2nd partition as "unknown", so I believe android is changing the partition type to something unrecognizable.
Well, being I haven't got a reply yet, I'll ask this,
Has anyone with an Optimus 3D partitioned their SD card?
Oh i did & got it worked but I stopped using the link2sd partitioning my sdcard, because somethings you should know. Well first, the sd has to be fat32 & when asking about the 2nd partition, chose fat32 and then reboot the phone. I tried ext2 or ext whatever just never work. After reboot and link2sd ask the same thing again, just pick the fat32 partion and reboot again. It worked for me after 3 reboot, strange don't know why.
Lastly, just let you know the 1st partition of the SD card won't show on your phone because theres already internal SD and external_SD folder only show the 2nd partition of SD card. But the 2nd partition won't show on your pc to transfer files, if you know what i mean. Like I wanted to use the 1st partition for music/movies and 2nd for apps (link2sd) but you have to partition the SDcard for the link2sd to work. So the external_SD folder is for 2nd partition, I looked everywhere for the movie on the 1st partition but never found it or maybe I should try root explorer...well I don't know maybe there's someone can help us out about the 1st partition OR maybe just my O3D SORRY for the long reading! lol

Link2sd mount script cannot be created

Hi,
When I instal Link2SD and open it for the first time it asks for the file system for my SD card second partition and I select ext4, but after always gives this error message "Mount script cannot be created".
The rom I'm using is CyanogenMod 10.2 by Rashed97 and Kernel 2.6.35.10.
Anyone can help me with this please, I tryed many things but didnt worked.
Problem resolved...
I've updated Superuser and rebooted the phone and after link2sd created automatically a new script and mounted the sd card properly.
Cant know exatcly what was the reason but worked.
But now I'm having another problem, Whenever I try to converte to User App I get this message "Failure - pkg: 7cache/download/****.apk Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_INVALID_APK]
Anyone can help me with this?
Mount script cannot be created.
If you store the Link2sd application in your memory card, it will not able to link to SD. Move that application to internal storage and use ext4 as second partition. It is working in my Samsung Galaxy 4.
solved for me
i had the same problem but got it resolved by....
connected the SD and phone using USB cable
backed up my files
i formatted the SD card created 2 partitions using Mini Tool Partition Wizard Manager, one with FAT32 and one with Ext4
exited the Mini Tool Partition Wizard Manager
DIDN'T safely remove the hardware from the taskbar
DIDN'T turn off USB storage
DIDN'T detach the USB cable from the PC
turned off the phone by the power button and disconnected the usb cable.
turned on the phone and opened the Link2sd app and chose ext4 and it created the mount script successfully
Hi all, same here, cannot create mount scripts.
MicroSD 32GB, recovery TWRP v2.7.0.0, rom CyanogenMod 11.0.0-RC11-p500.
Formatted SD-EXT (1024MB, no SWAP partition) in ext4 and now ext3, the mount scripts are not working.

Tried ext4, ext3, ext2 and even fat32... Not one of them works.
There is an app similar to Link2SD but working?
Or how can I use SD-EXT to extend the space for apps?
Thank you.

same issue here
Had similar problem also ("invalid argument" message). Problem in my case was that my CWR formatted to ext4 by my ROM do not want to work with ext4. So I used "mini tool" and formatted to ext3. Connect in CWR to PC and format , reboot, create script, ....
I solve the problem by not using the SD-Ext.
I'm guessing that this is something none of you are aware of as I don't see it mentioned in any of your posts...
Link2SD will fail if there isn't enough free space in /system.

For others who find their way to this thread
It appears this is an issue specific to the device - and that is an "unknown" until you try. I tried the above also - with minitool partition manager and easus partition manager and none of the partitions worked with Link2SD. Then I downloaded and installed app2sd (all in one tool) on the device and used the partition tool included with it to reformat the second partition. Be advised the app2sd version from google Play was full of absolutely ridiculous ads that I had to constantly escape and back out of or "X" out of at the top right or left corners - to get back to use the actual tool itself.
1. Ext2 format failed with an error (tried it twice even after wiping the partition)
2. did not try Ext3
3. Ext4 formatted successfully - but the mount script of Link2SD STILL failed
4. FAT32 formatted successfully - AND the mount script of Link2SD worked
I then uninstalled App2SD - and hopefully all the ads it brings
It should be noted even after successfully getting Link2SD working - it could not "move an app" to the SD card because it reported the device - a Teclast x70R was using "emulation" - but Link2SD reported it could "link" and move some files to the SD of some programs. I suspect the reality is the FAT32 file system has something to do with this as it cannot carry the permissions needed by UNIX type Operating Systems.
Others have said the EXT file system partition must be the first partition on the SD card; and while this had proved to be true with a PC hard drive when trying to install OSX as a dual boot Operating System - on my Android device it simply resulted in the SD card being unmounted - or failing to mount at all
It should also be noted that the minitool and easus partition managers COULD NOT successfully format the second partition of the SD card apparently either - because Windows technically only will recognize the first partition on a removable SD card type drive - apparently true even though they both reported successfully formatting the partition - when in fact it was ONLY AFTER reformatting using the app2sd partition tool did I get meaningful error messages - and/or that the FAT32 format of the second partition actually worked in Link2SD
It is another example of "go figure"

[Q] Problem Creating partition in twrp affects sd size

I have a 32 gb micro sd card in my Samsung Fascinate. I attempted to create a partition using twrp recovery, but it failed everytime saying that it could not find the partition. Now when I use my card though it only shows 23.9 gb even though it is completely empty. This was a legit card and it showed the correct amount of gb proir to the failed partition. I don't know why my partition setup failed or why it is now only allowing 23.9 gb.
Thanks
I too am facing the same problem with my Kingston 64GB Class 10 micro SD card in my Sprint HTC One M8 using captain throwback's custom TWRP recovery version 2.8.4 on official kitkat 4.4.4 rom. The phone is (obviously rooted/ S-O).
Any help would be appreciated.

Try reformat your SD Card using MINITOOL PARTITION WIZARD (windows apps) into fat32. Before doing it, connect SD card to your computer just delete second partition you''ve made with twrp. (you can see it from your computer)
How to use mini partition wizard just Google it.
Thanks a lot for the tip my sd card now works perfectly and all is good!

TWRP partitioning external SD doesn't work (Unable to locate device to partition)

Hi,
since the internal storage of my 8GB Moto G3 is pretty small, I wanted to move apps to my external SD, but there is only a hand full of apps I can move.
So now I wanted to partition the external SD I have, but when I want to start the partitioning, it says "E: Unable to locate device to partition".
When I google for exactly this error message, I can't find any solution. I formatted the SD via the phone, I also formatted it via PC to FAT32 and exFAT and I formatted it via TWRP to exFAT and also to EXT3 and EXT4, none of these methods worked.
I also tried it with the MicroSD mounted and unmounted, made no difference.
Also can I make the external SD to the main storage for the phone, so all apps put their files on the SD card like Whatsapp, without symlinking every folder manually?
All apps won't move to the SD. I'm guessing that if the developer specifies internal, that's all you get. On the first soak you could force apps to external which I tried with mixed results. A few would work, some wouldn't. Even on the latest, some app's widgets won't work if the app is on external.

Having the same issue here, I have a brand new Santin 128gb and I want to partition it to my HTC One M9, I formatted it and then wanted to immediately partition it and then I am receiving the same error and cannot find anything else online.
Same problem here I've got a Lexar 32 GB Micro SD.
Same problem here, with twrp 2.8.2.0

[Link2SD] SD card not recognized right

Hello,
I have a problem with Link2SD which I hope someone knows an answer for. My setup looks like this:
Hardware
Galaxy A3 (2017) - SM-A320FL
SanDisk Ultra MicroSD (64 GB)
Software:
Android 8.0.0 (A320FLXXS3CRK1)
Newest TWRP for my phone
Newest Magisk
Universal Init.d Injector v2.2 (https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software-hacking/mod-universal-init-d-injector-wip-t3692105)
How I setup the partitions of the microSD
First Partition as FAT32 (Primary) with a drive letter assigned. Second Partition ext4 (also Primary) without a drive letter. MiniTool Partition Wizard was used for this process.
Also tried a few variations of the above like making the second partition ext2 or setting the first partition to active but in the end it all made no difference
Now the strange part ....
The partitions are properly detected when I connect the microSD to the PC using a card reader.
The first partition is also detected as external memory by android and I can use it like every other SD with one partition
Link2SD is also able to detect the second partition, mount it at start and link apps to it
The problem is that my PC wont detect the sd card when I connect the phone to it. When I reformat the SD back to one partition the SD card is detected without a problem (explorer showing the internal memory aswell the external memory)
[*]Sometimes the card is also shown as not detected in the default samsung file explorer even tho the apps moved to the sdCard are stil working
Does anyone have a clue what is happening here or what I am doing wrong?
Dear user
I am having the same troubles with my a320fl when attempting to use 64gb sd card partitioned with fat32 and ext2/ex4.
Once I enter the card in the phone and restart it doesn't register on the phone.
I hope someone else can help us!
I have the same problem, also with a 64GB Samsung Evo, could this be an A3 issue?
