Stereo Speaker Mod - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hey guys, just got my Pixel today. I was wondering if there is a mod that turns the earpiece into a loud speaker like the mod for the XL? Thanks.

I am using this:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel-xl/themes/mod-enabling-dual-speaker-audio-playback-t3492257
However, do note that the earpiece speaker is too soft and negligible to work together for Stereo. My goal is to get the speaker to be louder and it does that.
It's all explained in the thread

Does this work for the non-XL pixel? The reason I ask is because I thought that was only for the XL. I'll give it a try tomorrow though.

Yes it does.
I followed the steps and set to force maximum gain all the time. Then froze the app as I didn't wan't the notification showing up. The setting just stays.

I just tried to do the mod and it hasn't worked for me. When I try to use the adb commands, it always says no such file or directory. I even tried the older method of dowloading the mixer_paths file but I can't change permissions for that. How did you manage to do it?

Well, there are 3 steps.
For first step, I simply copied the gz file into the /data/local/tmp folder using root explorer. I found this method easier than ADB.
For 2nd/3rd step, you need to execute the commands in root shell. (type su, enter) to grant root access before doing the 2 commands.

When I try to type in the commands, it says "can't gzopen chdloc_hardware_audio_mods_pixel__no_ull.tar.gz........."
I've tried typing the adb commands on my computer and on my phone through Material Terminal app.

Yep, I finally managed to do it. And it is true what they say, the earpiece volume is a lot quieter than the bottom speaker but at least it's something, lol.

Wanted to thank MD for starting the thread and Casen for the lnk. Very cool. I now have "android droidX".
MD- how far have you got? Try downloading the android sdk and you can start experimenting with ADB (android debug bridge). If you just google "android sdk" you can go right to google's site and they have instructions there. Or maybe you have all ready messed around with ADB?
anyways, cheers for the good question.
Thanks and idk im trying to look for a easier way first. Theres a app out there it just doesnt support DX yet.

I had that same problem originally. Did you follow the directions on the link exactly? If you push the framework-res.apk back to the phone while it is running "normally"- that is what happens (or it happened to me at least).
But when I booted into recovery, mounted system (it will actually read unmount when it is mounted) and then pushed the apk- I didn't have that problem.
I am not sure if that was the only step that made the difference- but is the only one I can think of.

Thanks. I couldn't get my system to recognize the phone while in recovery. I ended up mounting the system while the phone was in Media Sync Mode, issuing the "stop" command, replacing the files and rebooting. Worked like a charm. :-D

That sounds easier. I am no ADB wizard. Could you type it out for me?
Code:

Or whatever commands you issued?
Thanks.

A couple of things...
1. This is in no way meant as a "come back". Just my view.
2. Whether it is easier to use terminal or not - I still need the commands.
3. And for me it is easier to use a full size key board. The USB cable is less of a hassle to me then the mini touch screen keyboard.
Again- that's just me.

Visionary is only part of the process. You need a couple more files and a working knowledge of abd and using terminal on your Mytouch 4G:
files:
wpx.ko
hboot_dhd.nb0
Visionary
A Terminal app (I use SUFBS)
Commands:
push the above two files to /data/local using ADB
adb push wpx.ko /data/local
adb push hboot_dhd.nb0 /data/local
run visionary and get temp root
Terminal:
Open up the terminal app and type in “su” to gain root access
Once the “#” appears, type in “insmod /data/local/wpx.ko” and hit Enter. You should get a “function not implemented error,” which is what you want.
This next terminal command will turn your device into a nice paperweight if you mess it up. If you do mess it up, don’t blame me, this all on you!
dd if=/data/local/hboot_dhd.nb0 of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p18 and hit Enter.
Close the terminal app, now open up visionary again. Run temp root again. You might get the “device already rooted” notification, this does not matter, what you are doing is locking in root.
Go back and open up your terminal emulator once more time and request root by typing “su”
Once you get the #, type “sync” wait about three minutes and reboot.
You should have permanent root with the security off (S-off), to check : With the phone off, hold down volume down and power to open Hboot. The top line of the screen should have “S-off” at the end.
I wanna try this step soooo bad but i'm scared ****less I brick my fone. Considering I only got it for just 2 days now.
I did the terminal process with terminal emulator 4 times & whenever I bash the root.sh file, the wpx.ko gives me trouble. Did it this morning @ 4am so I cant quite remember the exact statement it came back with

That means that the adb binary isn't in the folder you are working from. Either the binary is missing, our you are in the wrong folder with you command prompt.

Ok so lemme just recap what I did to see where I went wrong. I downloaded the SDK, installed the platform-tools folder, then hold shift same time as I click on the tools folder, select open command winder here & started to type in the prompt. So Now which file is the adb binary?? Maybe I can try & see if I somehow moved or removed it

I got the wpx error, which is why I searched a bit more, and then used the method I posted earlier...
To help with the cmd prompt, down load this file, and place it in the same folder that the adb binary is in (it's a file, named adb). Double click this file, and it silk open a prompt in that folder...

You need to use an app like Root Explorer or you can use terminal emulator and type in these commands (all without quotes and press enter after each one):
"su"
"cd /system/media/audio/ui"
"ls" -- this will list all of the files in the directory, find the one that you want to get rid of then type
"rm <filename>" replacing <filename> with the name of the file you want to remove. Hope this helps!
If you don't want to use adb or the terminal, download a program onyour computer called Android Commander. It's a gui that does the command stuff for you.

At his moment, I got another problem.
All the adb commands return: "error: device not found".
The USB Debugging is on, to do that, I used "setprop persist.service.adb.enable 1".
But now it still does not find the device.

sdcard permissions messed up?

Ive factory reset several times now, I've reflashed the android l preview image several times, and flashed two 5.0 roms over it even, and i even tried a multiboot with cm11. My device can't take pictures, video, basically anything to do with the camera doesnt work. Pictures seem to take, but don't save. Video or any panorama crashes the camera, and the error logs show something about permission denied to the files they are trying to create. How can i fix this?
Did you copy all your data back to the phone via recovery?
Usually for L, you run
su
restorecon -FR /data/media/0
...which is mentioned in his sticky lots of times.
But If you copied all sdcard data back to your phone via recovery, there's a different approach

No it's uncommon. I've only sewn it for people using recovery or adb to push and pull sdcard folders.

The adb (or TWRP MTP) only seems to break permissions if you're pushing folders. Pishing individual files should be fine.

Its not related to L at all. Files should be fine to push. Its just folders I think that cause the issue.
