Hi there,
I used to use a SonyEricsson Bluetooth Stereo thingy to listen to music and while the quality was decent (no skipping) the battery of the earphones doesn't last long enough to make this a good solution if you are on a long travel. The other problem is that you can't use bluetooth earphones on a plane.
So, since the HTC standard earphones are awful, I bought this adapter
http://www.expansys.com/p.aspx?i=142091
and I am now using my Sennheiser earphones.
As you can see from other customers' comments this adapter is really crap and as soon as you touch it the sound becomes muffled and you need to readjust it so that the contacts work again. Basically you can't listen to music with the phone in your pocket.
So the question is: what is your solution to listen to music? Is the HTC wired remote reliable in terms of having good contacts with the body of the phone? Is there another adapter that has more stable contacts.
This is becoming a major drawback for me and I am not sure I want my next phone to have all the hassles that the HTC proprietary connector implies.
Thanks in advance!
A.
PS: I know there is another thread about this but my point here is that I don't care about having or not having a microphone, or what Expansys is selling.... I want to be sure that someone is using something with good results!!
I have a very cheap adapter with a short cable, found it on ebay.
Works flawless, as it has a cornered plug.

Thanks for your reply. It is indeed quite cheap so I will give it a try. I really hope the L-shaped plug works better!

I have just received the adapter from Hong Kong. It works great! No comparison with the one sold on Expansys. This one fits well into the USB socket and there's no problem with the sound disappearing when moving the phone.
Thanks for the suggestion!
I have the I.Tech Radio Clip
http://www.itechdynamic.com/en/products_spec.asp?cid=2&pid=02050
Works like a charm, no issues, and battery life on it lasts 6 hours, enough for me.
Best thing about it is the ability to skip music and pause and play music without taking your device out of your pocket or holster, bad thing is everytime you do, your device goes on and battery can drain if it doesn't switch of soon or other buttons may be pressed when it is on in your pocket or holster.
Another good thing is also the radio, and I know that it is just a perk, but good enough, if your sick of your songs, listen to the radio.
nice gadget
A while back I purchased a 2.5mm-3.5mm headphone adapter which actually said it was made for the Treo 750 (It is pictured below). I used it a long time ago when my Treo still had WM5 on it and I recall the fact that it worked fine. Now (I have Wm6 on it), whenever I plug my wired headset into the headphone jack, I get no sound out of it. When I turn up the volume - whether the headset is plugged in or not, the audio always comes out of the speaker on the back of the phone. Am I missing something or is anyone else having this issue?
headphones or speakers/cassette?
I have the same problem whenever I use anything OTHER than headphones. Standard headphones DO work with the adapterfor me. But external speakers and car cassette adapter does not. My adapter is brand new. Didn't work before OR after the Windows Live 6 upgrade. Grrr, as the majority of hte time I want to play music in the car.
UPDATE: THE PROBLEM IS THE ADAPTER
I had bought an adapter that looks like the one pictured in the above post. I took it back to Radioshack and explained the problem and asked if they had a DIFFERENT kind of 3.5>2.5 adapter. They took me back to the stereo section, where they had one that is straight without the cable. THAT ONE WORKS GREAT! And it was about half the price. They said they sell the other one up front with the phones "because the iPhone's jack is recessed and won't work with [the straight one]". (Hmm...not because it costs twice as much?)
The new one is RadioAhack part number 274-373 1/8" to 3/32" adapter. Hope that helps!

Well that explains it! I always thought an adapter was, well, just an adapter. Didn't know there was any real difference between them. I'll have to head over the RadioShack and pick one of those up. Thanks!
Is there any way to do this through the power slot (cigarette lighter)? Thanks.
No lol, you will need some sort of connection to your headunit (either via bluetooth [ad2dp] or usb or a line in or something else along those lines)
I use a fm-transmitter in my car for this, there are several different types of transmitters ( bt, cable ).
Just search for fm-transmitters for mp3 players.
Here are some options http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=426599

Well, suprise, suprise.
Actually, the mini-USB connector fits Diamond connector though they may seem to be different.

the Mini-USB is exactly the same as HTC's variation, the only difference is the outside shape, the HTC one is cut down. Both fit perfectly.
for the car buy Parrot MK6000 , it's cheap an has a great stereo sound ...
i use the cassette adapter with a mini-usb to female 3.5mm stereo adapter... works great

I just received the FMtalk NT-039_DP (bought it from Ebay) and it DOES NOT charge the diamond when pluged in. The transmitter seems to work well. I have yet to try the phone with it.
I use one of those tape adapters connected to the HTC remote. Works really well as a hands free kit also. Bonus!!
first off beware of belkin just took my back fin horrible if any thing get a kensington hundred if not thousands of times better
I use the y cable which splits the mini usb on the bottom of the diamond to a 3.5mm plug and a mini usb. I then use a car charger into the mini usb to charge the phone while a 3.5mm to phono cable plugs into the back of my head unit, allowing for music, calls and sat nav to all go through the car speakers. Works well and the people say they can here me clearly when using it as a hands free kit.
i use the motorolla T505 acts as a speakerphone and fm transmitter
I read somewhere that a Nokia CA-75U cable works fine as a TV out cable for the Samsung Galaxy S (i9000) and so did a quick ebay search anf found many "compatible" etc all around £7-20
Anyways did a google and came across one place selling Geniune Nokia ones for an amazing low price of £2.03 I then thought I would get shafted on delivery charges but was even more amazed delivery was £0.01 . So ordered one on Wednesday and got it today.
I can confirm it works perfect, kids are currently watching Toy Story2 from my phone connected to my tv (im even upscaling to 1080p ) and it's working fine

jup, although it disconnect easily, doubt that an original cable would stay in the socket more firmly.. already over 20h video playback through cable with an outstandig picture quality, figuring it's 480p
Anyone know where I can get this same cable for cheap and ships to Canada?

It doesn't disconect easily at all, it's a standard 3.5mm jack if yours is disconnecting all the time its a manufacturing fault not to the correct specification.

3.5mm... hrm how come the focalprice page looks like a Micro USB?

Hum, ever it looks like, i thinks its not Micro USB:

You're silly. You picked the wrong link obviously. Try http://www.focalprice.com/MA040B/Original_Nokia_CA7575U_TVOut_Video_AV_Cable_Black.html
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Bought one. Arrived today.Works perfect. A big thank you.
Can you guys tell me if there is any "humming" with the sound? I have one of this Nokia cables but it gives me this distortions :/
Probably because of how your volume is set. The idea is to increase the volume on your SGS, not on the TV. If you the volume on your SGS is low and you just turn up the volume on your TV all you're going to do is make the noise more noticeable. Try finding a mid point between too much and too little volume on your SGS. Max volume would be ideal but that would kill your battery.
Just my $0.02. I could be wrong...
Hi, I know what you mean but it's not the case.
It's a strong humming, specially when there is too much "white" on the screen. It varies according to the picture.
Sounds very much like interferance somehow or the cable has the wrong pins set, I cannot really say for sure.
Arkymedes,
Same sh*t
to All: If you had this problem, and it was succesfully solved by replacement of cable , please report which cable did you buy and where.
Still hope it's not a hardware problem, but...

My guess is that's an incorrect image. But that also does suggest there maybe another nokia one that is micro usb that "may" work on the Galaxy.
The nokia one I have is a 3pin 3.5mm jack to svideo and L/R audio
The Galaxy S hdmi out cable uses micro usb to hdmi so it does mean they can output tv from the microsd so the cable you listed could very well work???
And yes if my amp is too high I do get a lot of crappy hiss on the audio I tried a dell cable and that gives the same so its not the nokias fault.
Just ordered one. Cheers OP!
BS...
As visible https://youtu.be/N3dhyA3femQ?t=1m20s here , the car dock allows for charging and audio at the same time. Now, is there a single cable to do the same or is this only possible with a mod?
maybe this will work when they release it https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/gromaudio/smart-android-usb-car-converter-cable-for-music-on
I think your only option at the moment for such use case is either to get the incipio mod or that one on indiegogo with wireless charging and put it on a wireless charging stand. Either way I don't think it's worth the hassle.
You'll be way better with a Bluetooth headset or If you have some high end wired headset, there are dedicated Bluetooth receivers with 3.5 mm jack ...
Third option would be to just get the car dock and cut the mounting part
I think you are looking for something like this http://www.ebay.com/itm/Moto-Z-Type-C-to-3-5-mm-and-charger-2-in1-Headphone-Jack-USB-C-Adapter/282489851364 don't you?
I was searching for something like that myself since I got this phone. I could only find it with lightning port but stumbled upon this e-bay listing just now.
I'm not exactly keen to buy something from an e-bay seller from China/Hong Kong/Taiwan with an estimated arrival date of a whole month.

Have someone tried the Amazon ones ?
Have anyone found a working cable?
I am also looking for one, but I would like it to have mic also work (4 connector 3.5mm plug) + turbopower charge / sync with PC.
2 years and no good solution out yet? Incredible... Why take the 3.5mm plug out to begin with? SMH!
I need a 4-in-1 solution: Listen+Talk+Charge+Sync.
Bumping the thread as I've bought this adapter: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/USB...Type-C-to-3-5-Earphone-audio/32840199350.html
Pros:
* It works
* It's very cheap
Cons:
* No data sync - my guess is that USB C uses D+/D- for audio signal,
* No microphone - idk if it's simply something that this particular adapter skips or what. Not a dealbraker for me anyway.
It's also an alternative for the original usb-c - jack adapter in case that one breaks.

I saw that a huge amount of splitters worked "well" but when it charges and has the headphones connected some noises start to sound... The same applies for this one or it works perfectly?
I've just tested it using the fastest charger I've found with regular USB output, LG's model MCS-04ER (got it with my G2, it's 1.8A, not recognized as TurboCharge but charging).
No noise at all.
But from my experience - it all depends on the charger, not on the splitter. When I've tried listening to music on said G2 while charging it with a cheapo car charger the noise was unbearable.
My guess is that cheap chargers cause noises on the ground line, which is the same ground as the one in the audio jack. Also running charging cable alongside audio one can cause additional noise through induction.
PS. Another minor con of this splitter: the charging lead ends with a big USB-A plug instead of a type-C (or even regular micro-USB) socket.
