Not all albums/folders showing in Google Photos app? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

Hello,
My Google Photos app is only showing the photos taken with the pixel camera in its gallery. If I swipe right, I can choose "Device Folders" and this lets me see photos I've posted from Instagram and any screenshots I've taken. The photos I've downloaded from Chrome or from Facebook are nowhere to be found in the Photos app. Any help? I want to stay away from thrid party photo/gallery apps. Anyone know how to add device folders to the Photos app? I have root btw.

Photos shows images that are synced or waiting to be synced to the cloud. You'll need to enable cloud backup for those folders.

They would have to be. My saved Twitter images go to the Twitter folder. The screenshots go to Screenshots. Chrome downloads go to the Download folder. Facebook downloads go to Camera.

I only have "Camera" "Instagram" and "Screenshots". No other folders are showing

Please understand because I have this same problem. When I download a picture from Facebook it is no in Google photos. NO folder for Facebook is listed. It is NOT in the camera folder.

Usually, if you have images from Facebook or Screenshots they are stored in their respective folders inside of the pictures directory. As mentioned above, in Photos, if you tap on the 3 lines on the upper left of the screen and choose "Device folders" it will show you all images stored locally on your phone. If you suspect Photos is not behaving correctly, you can use the Downloads app to also see images stored on your phone.
Simply launch the app called Downloads. Tap the 3 lines in the upper left (if the menu doesn't open automatically) and choose Images. That will also show all the folders with images on your phone.

This happened to me too. I tried downloading some high resolution images sent to me via email, and although they showed up in my Downloads folder, nothing I did would make them show up in my actual Photos app (under Device Folders or otherwise). If you go to Downloads folder multi-select the photos you want, and click the 3 dots in upper-right, it lets you choose "Upload to Photos" as an option. Though it makes you choose an "Account" (where my gmail address shows). You'd think this would work (since the Photos app logo is alleged where you're 'uploading' these photos to), but this didn't work for me either! Anyone else have any luck? I don't want to take 'screenshots' of these high-res photos as I feel it will reduce the photo quality. Please help!

Same problem on a OnePlus One running Slim7. When I open the Downloads app and select images or video, I get a message that says "Can't load content at the moment."
Any ideas?

[APP][2.2+] Sectos - a handy photo vault app

Sectos ~ SECret phoTOS
Secret Photos is a handy app to keep your sensitive photos & videos in secret. We use high-secure algorithm and custom mechanism to protect photos. It's well integrated with cloud services (Dropbox, Google Drive comming soon) to backup secret photos forever.
Key features
Hide unlimited photos, videos and albums
Encrypt with MD5
Sectos camera - capture and hide photos
Dropbox backup & restore
Fast secret album slideshow
Photo can be recovered when app is reinstalled
Hidden photos can be used as regular one: share Facebook, send email, etc.,
100% holo theme
Download
XDA version: View attachment Sectos_XDA_v0.9.apk

How it works
Secret Photo uses a secret box that is hidden from Android OS. Only user using Secret Photo app with correct unlock code can access this box. Unlock code is encrypted in MD5 algorithm. When a photo is selected to hide, it will be moved to this box and change the file so that no other app can recognize its as a photo. You can use hidden photos as regular one: attach to email, share to Facebook, etc.
Hide photos
Two ways to hide a photo
Sharing photo from regular photo apps:
Inside Secret Photos: goto Public photo, click an hold on an album or photo to select, then click on hide icon .
Unhide photos
To unhide, goto Secret photo, click an hold on an album or photo to select, then click on icon.
Unhide photos
Secret Photos provides a handy camera to capture photo that will hide immediately. You don't need to unlock app to use this camera.
Privacy
Unlock
Two unlock types: pattern (default) - gesture based unlocker and PIN - numeric based unlocker. To change unlock method, go to Settings> Privacy settings> Unlcok type. To change unlock code, go to Settings> Privacy settings.
Forget my unlock code
Request unlock code from unlock screen. You should enter unlock code email (see Settings > Privacy settings) in order to receive unlock code
Photo storage, Backup & restore
All secret photos are stored in external memory (i.e. SD Card or external partition). Therefore, your photos can all recover even app is uninstalled and reinstalled
Dropbox
You can link Dropbox account to Secret Photos and to backup/restore
If auto backup is enabled, all new hidden photos will be automatically transfered to Dropbox
Uninstall app
App can be uninstalled as regular app. You should remember your unlock code since you will be requested in the next install
Re-install app
Since Sectos stores data on external memory, you can recover all hidden photos with your old unlock code. If you forgot it, just reset unlock code to create a new one.

What did algorimt encryption is used for storage? MD5 password encryption is irreversible, for him I'm not worried, but I am afraid for the data itself.

Thank vaimr.
For unlock code (pattern/pin): using MD5
For photos: Android OS detects photo files by its extension (ex. .png, .jpg, .bmp, etc.,). To hide a photo, we change its extension and move to a separated folder so that no other app can see them as photo. No real encryption is applied for photos & videos. By this, we can hide photos for most of normal users.
Which folder does this app store its data in? I think something went wrong while hiding some files, and they've been duplicated maybe. There's a huge chunk of space missing.

I hope this could support hiding the photos and videos in the external sd instead of internal sd because it wastes a lot of space in limited memory devices. And also it takes a very long time to hide videos. Hope this could be solved too. Thanks.

data is stored in external storage: [/sdcard]/Android/com.rootuninstaller.photos-data folder. But it's not recommended to edit this folder manually.

My lg device has two storage options one is the internal sd which is named as sdcard0 and the other is external memory card which is named as externalsd in storage. And I can confirm that this app stores the hidden pics and videos in the sdcard0 which is the internal sdcard memory. That means it shifts the video from external sd to internal sd.

Difference between "Google Photos", "Google Photos Auto Backup" and "Google+ Photos"

Difference between "Google Photos", "Google Photos Auto Backup" and "Google+ Photos"
Just a simple question that I'm a little surprised hasn't been asked before. When looking at the syncing options (attached screenshot), what is the difference between syncing "Google Photos", "Google Photos Auto Backup" and "Google+ Photos"?
All I want to do with my photos are for them to be backed-up Google+ automatically after I take them on my phone which it is currently doing without an issue. I'm just wondering which one of these 3 options, which all sound pretty redundant, I can uncheck and still have that functionality? I guess my main motivation is to save a little battery life with less syncing.
Anyone know what the differences are? Thanks!

Good question. I noticed this before but didn't think much of it. It does seem pretty redundant.
Well I figured out one of them. Based on what I gathered from http://lifehacker.com/disable-google-photo-sync-to-clean-up-your-gallery-app-1148620893 the only utility "Google Photos" sync provides is for your photos to also be synced to the Gallery app as well.
I don't need my synced photos to show up in Gallery and also in the "Photos" app so I did what they said in the Lifehacker article and unchecked the "Google Photos" sync option and cleared app data in Gallery. Gallery now only displays images on my local storage and auto backup still seems to work fine.
I'm assuming...
Google Photos will sync and restore the photos you have in Google Photos to your phone.
Google Photos Auto Backup will automatically sync your photos to Google Photos. Basically checking that box automates the process of backing up photos on your device for you.
Google+ photos will sync your Google+ photos to your phones gallery.
Anyone correct me if i'm wrong though.

Close. From further testing, I seem to have gotten these results:
Google Photos sync: Google+ photos will sync to your phone's Gallery.
Google Photos Auto Backup: what you said
Google+ Photos: I just unchecked this and did some tests and it seems to do nothing at all. I took a picture and it still automatically backed-up and it still showed up in the "Photos" app. Checked Google+ on my browser and the photo is there too. Does anyone know what this really does?
All and all, I'm pretty happy that I killed 2 syncs that pretty much did nothing for me. Hopefully my phone can run more efficiently.
great question..
I just have Google photos+ ticked and that backs up my photos on the photos app .. shrugs it seems to do exactly the same as auto backup photos
great Google design and coding as always.. clear as mud
"Google Photos" is certainly a part of the old stock Gallery app. If you disable that app, it removes the sync as well. I doubt we will ever see another Nexus/GPe/Silver device with that app anyways.

I believe Google+ just added a feature that will backup ANY photos that you download to your device. I remember seeing that it said it can now back up ALL photos stored anywhere on your device. I know this works because the first couple times I downloaded a photo to my downloads folder, it notified me that it backed it up on Google+. So I believe that is what Google+ Photos does. I know for a fact that all Google Photos does is show your Picasa (synced) pictures in your gallery app. First thing I do is uncheck that and clear data for the gallery app on my phone so I don't see all of them in my gallery. And Google Photos Auto Backup does what it always has, which is back up pictures (and videos) to your Google+ account.

Those same check boxes keep checking themselves, no rhyme or reason. So they sync even though auto backup is off.
Any thoughts as to why all the photo backup boxes would check themselves off?

I got the same problem. Google+ sync also re-checks itself all the time too.
And as an update, it seems that Google has now changed the "Google Photos Auto Backup" sync option to a new "Google+ uploads" sync option. I guess this makes it a little more clearer, a bit.
Google+ Uploads
Anyone here , Google+ Uploads in settings. Do not know what is this needed.

Google photos help !

Hi all
I have an issue with google photos that is doing my head in. Basically when i take a batch of photos i then, when home switch on auto backup and they upload to google photos (great thats what i want !) i can then move them on google photos into albums and view these on all of my nexus devices through the gallery app.
Again all is great apart from one thing, when i go into the gallery app on say my nexus 5, all my photos are there in the albums etc, however i have one album thats called "auto backup" it has about 46 photos all of which appear in other albums but i cant no matter what i do get rid of this one album.
I have signed into google plus on pc and this album does not exist on there for me to delete. I have googled the problem and all the answers tell me to go into google settings and un sync google photos completely. I don't want this i just want this one album to vanish.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Chris
Edit:
Ok i saw that the auto-backup folder holds all the pictures that were backuped from any mobile device from the same account. You cannot delete that folder, as its not really a folder in the original sense. I think its just a "link" to a collection of all automatically backuped pictures. But since these pictures are all in different folders, if you would delete that "folder" the pics would also be deleted in your real folders/albums.
I hope this makes sense for you
So the folder you want to delete is no folder, only a shortcut to see all backuped pics that now are in various other albums.

Yeah, i nearly was afraid of this
Its so difficult for me to tell...i just have too many pics. But before i answered with my last post i double checked on my 2 Nexus devices (5 & 7) and i really looked that way. But with 3000 and more pics its not easy to tell if its exactly that pics.
But ill also recheck this because i also want to know how exactly this photobackup works...
What i also wonder about is why there are all the various backup-options there, i also asked it here a while ago but no answer yet. What i mean is this:

cannot choose gallery after disabling google+

if i disable google+ app, i cannot add pics in tapatalk anymore.
when choosing insert photo, it askes me which app i want to use. i choose Gallery (the second one is Camera). Then second window appears, but there no gallery app. only some useless themes/icons apps and e.g. androvid and camera.. but the gallery app is missing.
when google+ is disabled, i can browse pics through the other gallery app and it opens pics. then when enable google+, gallery app appears again and i can choose another gallery app (which opens Pics (picasa?).
why cant i use the other gallery app, only app related to google+? no default app chosen (i checked).

I am going to take a stab at this one as it closely resembles a problem I had too.
If the photos in the gallery are linked to photos with google; you won't be able to use them that way. Since google plus is responsible for the relationship to the photos app.
Google photos & google plus go together. Disable g+ and photos will probably not function well without it.
If the pictures are stored on your local drive then I'm not sure what the problem is. Try something like a file explorer.
i dont have google+ account... photos are on my device. this is the reason too to disable google+, because it useless for me.
Sent from OPO.
I don't have Google+ and its letting me use Gallery. What ROM are you using? What Gapps are you using?
Its possible that if you're on a custom ROM and using a particular gapps, it removed Gallery2.apk which removes the stock AOSP Gallery.
If you're using stock ROM, then download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.radcam.gallery and then it should let you use that app to select the image.
all stock inside...
the gallery app is there, because every pics open there and im using it to browse files (pics/vids).
the problem comes when im disabling google+ app, then i cannot attach pics in tapatalk anymore, because it only let me choose some pointless themes/icons/vid editor... but no any gallery app (cyanogen gallery app is missing)... when enabling google plus, i can choose Pics (=Kuvat) then to browse photos. difficult to explain i need to take some screenshots...

and when it is disabled
so is it actually google+ which also is used to browse pics?? what is the cyanogen gallery app then? im confused...

I have the same problem with BBM. It crashes if I try to upload a pic with G+ disabled. If enabled, it uses Google photos to browse and I don't like that because it just lists EVERY image I have on my phone memory by date. Sometimes I add or download an image and have to scroll down a long way to find it. No folders, nothing. It's annoying. Any ideas?

Pictures Date Order Issue

So I used Samsung Smart Switch to change from my s7 edge to the s8+ which I absolutely love. However there is one annoyance, in Instagram and snapchat when importing from gallery it shows all my pictures in random order instead of chronological order, it's almost like it's reversed in snapchat and completely random in Instagram. Anyone else have this issue?
Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
Yep everytime i switch phones this happens. New photo taken with the phone should be on top tho but any old photos will be randomly thrown together.
Did this to me as well but all my images are stored on my SD card and I just simply transferred between phones. Maybe it has something to do with the order in which it read the files in memory to create the cache that causes the change in order.

No way to fix it. Atlest with all the phones ive had i havent found a way.
However new photos will be on too from this point on.
Found this solution in a Samsung Forum:
"Theory behind photos date"
If you did not change the file name it should be written in a way which indicates the year, day and month as well as the precise hour and minute when it was take. This applies to all kind of photos (from every single camera, not only phone ones) and to screenshots, but does not apply to whatsapp photos since only the year, day and month is indicated in the name followed by 000xx where xx indicates in which order you received the photos sent on the same day.
Methods to fix the photo date
Both methods i will show you embed metadata files into the photo, so it will never change the date if it is moved between devices or sd cards!
Method 1:
You can, if you have windows 10 photos program in your pc look at the name of the photo and click on the 3 vertical dots at the top right hand side of the pc screen and then click on file info. The date is now shown at the left of the picture and you can permanently modify that by hand. If you have many photos to modify use method 2. Method 1 is good if you have a few photos to edit or you have to edit a video date, for the other use case go to the notes at the end.
Method 2:
The program i personally use is EXIF date changer* you can dowload it from the developer website here , it should work on windows XP, vista, 7, 8.1, 10. As you can see they offer a free version and a paid version, the free version allow you to fix unlimited amount of photos without having more nieche features, so it is more than enough for what you need to do, so dowload the free version unless you want to support the developer or you need the pro features.
*i want to specify that i have no affiliation with the developer and that i am suggesting their app because i use it myself and it works perfectly. there are other programs which do the same thing if you like others more you can use them.
After you have dowloaded and installed EXIF date changer on your pc move all the photos from your sd card into a folder on you desktop (you can now delete all the photos from the sd card, but i highly recommend you not to delete the desktop copy till you have verified at the end of the procedure everything has gone well, that folder is your only backup!).
Step 1: choose with the button marked with 1 in the photo the folder which contains your pictures* the destination folder will automatically become a folder called adjusted which is created by the program and placed into sourced folder, you can leave it as it is or you can change it if you want, this is your personal preference.
Step 2: in the time difference page (2) select the voice set time/date from (3) and then date in filename (4).
*when choosing the folder there are different scenarios: if your folder hierarchy is like DCIM with inside camera and screenshot folders, the app will look for pics in the DCIM camera but not in the folders inside so it will process no photos, you must choose a folder which has photos directly in it, the photos in subfolders will not be processed and you will have to repeat the process manually afterwards!

}
Step 3: click on options (5) and the only think marked should be "Set file date to taken date" this will ensure than the photo date will be embedded into metadata with the same date shown in the filename and will avoid strange conflicts with some gallery apps which read file date and not taken date. Also remember NOT to mark "use file created date to taken date". There is another option pre marked which you should unmark which is "rename files to"**
**rename files to date option is useful if you have a few photos which have a name modified by you like "photo of mark" but have metadata and so show the correct date of when it was taken. I sugget to tailor use that option singularly on those kind of photos so the date is written in the file name and in case the metadata gets lost you have a backup, however when using the program to bulk change date of incorrect photos i would not advise to do that because it will add that to the name of all pics (which already have the date written in it) and it could be annoying. So use that function only on pre selected groups of photos with the overmentioned issue.
Step 4: check that in the advanced, privacy, filters and upgrade to pro everything is turned off.
Step 5: Hit process photos and wait for it to finish.
Step 6: After it finishes click on open folder or manually navigate indicated in destination folder in Step 1. You can rename that folder as you like (for example if you want it to be the camera folder of the phone rename it DCIM) and transfer it to your phone/sd card.
Step 7: check if all the photos are ok and there are no strange things going on with the date, if something is wrong delete the destination folder (indicated in step 1) and do all the process again. Again DO NOT DELETE THE UNTOUCHED PHOTO FOLDER ON YOUR PC TILL YOU VERIFY EVERYTHING IS OK BECAUSE IT IS YOUR ONLY BACKUP.
At this point all your photos date has been fixed!
Notes:
From my personal experience the photos with no date in filename are not modified by the program so if they have metadata it is not modified (if you marked what is indicated in step 3) and they will be fine, again cosider doing it for those photos only indicated in step 3 **.
If a photo keeps having the same behaviour after this process it is because it has not metadata and no date indicated in filename, so nothing can be automated. The date cannot be recovered via the file, but if you remember when you shot it you can permanently change with method 1.
I hope to have helped everyone!
