Need some help. I accidentally messed up my volume buttons on an HTC M8 and had to use adb to boot into recovery. After booting into recovery, I completely wiped my phone (customer ROM) using team win v2.7.0.0 with the intention of installing an official ROM. (Totally forgot I would need the Volume buttons).
Restarted my phone which seems to be stuck on the white HTC logo boot screen (understandable as I have no ROM on it now).
However, How do I get to turn it off firstly. I have held the Power button for over 2 minutes which seems not to solve the problem. Secondly is there a way I can boot into recovery without Volume buttons when the phone goes off eventually.
adb needs to detect the kernel for it to send instructions from what it seems as it keeps giving the response my device is offline on the white screen.
Is there a way of using adb to boot the device into recovery when the phone is off. Any help or suggestions you may have would be gladly appreciated.

I seemed to have bricked my Nexus S 4g, I unlocked the bootloader, and had MIUI running on there for some time with no problems, I took the rom off and started to run with just stock android. I ran into an issue when i tried to use an application that would change the system fonts, Fontchanger, and now the phone will not even reach the nexus s loading screen but instead gets immediately stuck at the first image screen showing the Google logo. When i hold the volume up and power button i can get into the boot menu, but when i try to get into the recovery menu i just get the triangle with the exclamation mark logo. Can anyone help me out with this one?
BUMP BUMP BUMP BUMP In a similar situation, flashed the wrong rom ran the OTA and wiped out recovery & USB.
Press Power and Volume Up Button in recovery mode and you will get options to clean things up. Did the same in morning and got it when accidentally pressed.
Ok so today my triumph stopped responding so i restarted it (took out the battery). then rebooted. upon reboot phone shuts down and now will hang at the motorola logo for about 10 min before boots but will shut back down due to the battery being dead(but had full charge when this started). Dont know what happened. So i try to get into clockworkmod to flash backup. cant get into it. the only thing i can do is get to the recovery.img file(pressing power+volume down). Other than that nothing.
also tried to boot with power pluged in. it stayed on but would not respond to any touches or button press except the lock button.
I have cwm 5.0.2.6 installed and tickerguy's cm7.
never had this problem till today. Any help would be appreciated.
a new development has occurred. now when i try to access recovery, the phone will just vibrate without stopping.
and i believe its stuck in a boot loop but without recovery i dont know anyway to exit the loop.
Are you able to get into download mode (power off then simultaneously press power button & vol- (should show polling))

Well after some tinkering (replacing the recovery image, assuming something corrupted it) i can now get to recovery, still takes 10 min to load it though. But i am unable to do anything in recovery because i have to press the menu button to confirm selection but the buttons wont respond. Some help would be appreciated.

Some time ago I've decided to flash a costume ROM on my HTC One S (S4), as its warranty expired. This is my first time doing such a thing to an Android device.
Earlier today, I unlocked the bootloader successfully, flashed Team Win Recovery Project and than flashed the latest snapshot of CyanogenMod 11 by following the steps described in the CyanogenMod website.
After the installation finished, I rebooted the device from the TWRP menu. However, the device did not boot at all.
If I try powering the device on (holding the power button for 2-3 seconds) or try getting to the bootloader menu (holding the volume down and power buttons), nothing happens. Hard reset does not work either: I hold the power button, the soft buttons (back-home-recent apps) blink fifteen time, the HTC splash screen ("quietly brilliant") is shown, and then the phone shuts down again.
* The battery is not drained -- after I installed the ROM, the device had around 90% charge.
* My computer does not recognize the device, so I cannot use adb or fastboot commands. [Obviously, this is not a driver problem -- I used the same computer to unlock bootloader and for the flashing.]
Is my device bricked? If not, is there a solution for my problem?

You may have a chance if you can get into "Bootloader"
Try holding the Power Button and Count to 10 Exactly to power it down and then try Power Button and Volume Down to get into "Bootloader" (Unplug the USB)
If you can get into Bootloader, check if your phone is "S-off". If its "S-on" Then you flash the kernal into the phone..
My Nexus 5 power button recently started getting stuck and is now completely stuck down so it goes into boot loop,
My question is, if I remove the power button from the board completely will I still be able to boot it using ADB ?
Or if there is any other workarounds without sending it for repair please let me know.

Yes, ADB REBOOT will work.
Hello, I just unlocked bootloader, flashed custom recovery (clockwork 6.0.4.8), and gained root on my HTC One S. I then attempted to install a custom ROM, (cyanogen 12.1).
After installing and telling Clockwordmod to reboot, I believe I am in a boot loop. The white HTC screen pops up and then goes to black and stays there. When I plug my phone into my computer, I get the connection and chime, and a new device appears in Device Manager called "HTC MTP Device." When I am in fastboot mode, my phone is shown as "Android ADB Interface" in device manager, so this is different. This leads me to believe that my phone is not dead or off, it is on with a blank screen. I do not believe my computer will recognize a device that is not powered on.
I have HTC Sync Manager and I have the option for it to automatically pop up when a device is connected. It pops up, but with an error saying HTC Sync Manager could not connect to your phone.
I am able to hard-reset the phone, by holding down the Power button for several seconds. However, this just repeats the process (White HTC logo screen, then black screen). I am not able to enter bootloader or recovery by holding down Volume and Power. I have tried Volume Up + Power, Volume Down + Power, and Volume Up + Volume Down + Power.
Also adb no longer recognizes my device, so I can not interact with the phone that way either.
Currently, my only idea is to allow my phone to die so I can try booting it into recovery from power off. But if there are any other ideas that would be great.

Just in case anyone stumbles on this. You can boot into the bootloader by Holding down the Power Button for several seconds, the soft buttons will blink, indicated ensuing reboot, when they stop blinking, hold Volume Down until you get to the bootloader menu. The phone does not need to be powered off for this. From there, adb/fastboot will recognize your phone, and you can factory reset if needed.
However, I figured out my problem. On older HTC models, including the HTC One S, you have to manually flash the boot.img file that is included in the zip for your ROM.
But now I've made it to the cyanogenmod boot screen and am stuck there. sigh. i've been at this literally all day.
In the end, I just flash a different rom, specially Candy5 as found here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-s/development/rom-t2964931 and it worked.
It's possible I accidentally flashed a rom that was incompatible with my device, not sure.
EDIT: I also switched from CWM to TWRP. Not sure if that helped.

I have broken volume down button, what can i do? face the same problem
What does it mean by manually flash boot.img? After flashing a custom rom, do not reboot first but flash the boot.img via twrp which can be found in zip for the rom?
