[Completed] LG G4 (Back to Stock) 20D question regarding Update Center - XDA Assist

Hello, I recently rooted my G4 (6.0), installed CM14 but wasnt happy. So I reinstalled Stock 20D Version. Now in the update center I am offered a software update, around 450MB. I am not sure if this is possible or reasonable to do as I guess it will not work? What can I do instead? How can I turn off the update messages? Is it better to install 20G version or not reasonable at all? Thanks

Hi !
How good or bad an update is , is hard to say , only using it one can draw a conclusion
If you have root and custom recovery then most probably the OTA wont work despite of the received message
To stop it , if you have root , install titanium backup and freeze the system.update application , if not , you can`t get rid of it , you must install it either from ota or manually using the flashtool
Good luck !

Thank you!!

Thanks again, I checked Titanium but only did find the apps "Update Center" and "Software Update", not system.update as you mentioned.... Please advise! Thanks a lot

Software update, update center is for LG apps I guess, let me know how it goes

I guess it worked - Thanks!!!

Great! Perform a reboot and check again

did it, still looks good!

Ok, if you ever want back that feature just defrost it though an ota won't work on a rooted device, you must do it manually
Cheers!

have you tried from the on screen phone app on the pc clicking the icon with 4 squares and click on settings and if it's not the latest the you should be able to update using the update button there
Humm.. I have the same problem since I updated my Stock rom to another (kor to eur)...
I think we must update the apk directly.
LG Apps always say that there is a new update but the update manager don't find anything...
I think I'll downgrade to the 210F (I'm in 220B currently). Will say you if there is any news.

[Q] how to update a 5.0.1 rooted?

Hey community,
after updating my 5.0 LTE 32 Shield Tablet some month ago and rooting it, I came to the conclusion that I don't really need root, but would like to continue receiving OTAs and have a device that just works.
Prio1:
Have a tablet with the latest updates installed.
Prio2:
As 1, but rooted.
I have made a apps+sysapps backup with Titanium.
What do you recommend as the next step?
Thank you very much.
All the best, Esshahn
Some additions:
1. I noticed I'm actually having 5.0 on my Shield. It's the 5.0.1 update plus the nVidia stuff that comes up all the time in the notification center.
I really just want to undo all root and whatnot actions and have a right out of the box experience on my Shield. I already did some stupid stuff (factory reset) and therefore lost my personal data anyway, so there's nothing to lose.
I noticed this forum isn't really active. If anyone doesn't know the answer, but could point me to the right forum for help that would be nice too.
Thank you
flash the full OTA through recovery: https://forums.geforce.com/default/...hread-released-2-17-15-/post/4464815/#4464815
then reinstall supersu through recovery, no factory reset needed
Thank you for replying.
I got annoyed by it all yesterday and flashed 2.1, now I don't have root or custom recovery anymore.
Now the fun part: When I want to update to 2.2 normally (since it's now supposed to be a standard device without any hacks), it just shows the error robot.
So now I'm stuck with 2.1 and can't move left or right.
After reading all those comments about messed up colors in 2.2 I'm wondering if its actually worth the effort to update?
Any idea on that Bogdacutu?
Thanks,
Esshahn

you can flash the full OTA through TWRP or CWM, no idea why it won't work with stock recovery though
the update supposedly fixes the graphics glitches that appear in various apps on update 2.1, that might be a good reason to update
Thank you!
Actually, since I didn't have CWM installed anymore, I just sideloaded the latest OTA, which worked nice.

[Q] OTA update

Hi guys.
So AT&T released a software update to my d850, and it prompts to update each time I restart device, where I have to force stop/hibernate software updater.
I'm rooted on stock KK 4.4.2 and I'm comfortable with battery life, functionality, and the overall performance of g3. So I'm hesitant about the Lollipop upgrade, as I've never really bothered flashing any ROMs since I was satisfied with my g3 experience.
So can anyone give some pros/cons they've noticed with the stock Lolipop ? Is it worth the switch?
I have a general idea of what I would need to do to update. Unroot, restore the bloatware I have removed using LGs PC suite, update and root again. Or is there a flashable zip of the update that i can just download? I hit update during first prompt and I was stuck rebooting into TWRP so i had to flash an image recovery file to get back.
Best bet is to go read on the lounge and threads related to see all different all experiences
I agree that the lounge is probably the best place for answers to determine if you feel it is worth the effort. My personal experience was that lollipop didn't bring much new. Most was minor cosmetic stuff and I feel like performance is ever so slightly smoother but this could be a placebo. If you use xposed then sticking with KK for now is the way to go. The line can explain this more. If you choose to stay on KK for now, use TiBu to freeze and clear data of the software update to prevent the phone from nagging about the update. I updated out of curiosity mostly and since the use of xposed is not a big deal for me, I stock with L.

And there are stock roms in the forums, just flash a stock (lp) ROM done. If you don't like flash back to a backup of kk

Problem with System Updates

Brazilian Moto G XT1033, bootloader unlocked, actually using Stock ROM 5.0.2 with Stock Recovery
Hello guys
Well, I was with rooted Stock 5.0.2 ROM 2 days ago, when it notified me that was an update available, so I know that I can't update by OTA with a rooted phone.
I wiped system/cache/dalvik and installed Stock ROM 4.4.4 by ADB+mfastboot for remove the root and be able to update normally.
When the cell started, I updated the "Motorola update service" in Play Store and searched for new updates (Settings > About phone > System updates). A few seconds and it returned the following message: "Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later.".
So, I downloaded the Stock ROM 5.0.2 and installed it by the same way (Wipe > Install by ADB/mfastboot) hoping that it will solve my problem... But it didn't ;(
I did some factory resets, some cache wipes etc and nothing worked for me.
I also installed the stock 5.0.2 recovery again as I saw in a forum topic, but still didn't work.
It is everything right with my phone and network connections.
This message keeps popping up, and I can not update.
Can anyone please help me? Thanks
(Sorry if I had a bad english, still learning...).
@Thales Lima : 1: keep patient, will have update after 1 day or more. If it said: system up to date=> cant update
2: you can download OTA zip file for xt1033, copy to phone( not put in any folder), and check update,it will update manually. Its ok like auto update.
Thanks for replying, thuybang!
I will be patient and wait and see if was a motorola's update server error
And... Where can I find the XT1033 5.1 ROM (zip file) for download?
OTA zip file update 5.1( not ROM 5.1). https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_JZx92EYN28YUJyT0JmNlJqRWM/view
After download, u change name to : 221.21.56 ( only number), and put in phone...
Whoooa, where did you find it? ^^
Thank you a lot!
------------ EDIT -------------
I pushed the zip file right named to my SD Card (none folder), and looked again for updates, and it returned the same message (Check for update was not available at this time. Try again later.). Can I update using a Custom Recovery > Install ZIP??
------------ EDIT -------------
The first download was corrupted, I guess... I downloaded it again and now I'm with 5.1 installed ^^ (I installed using the method mentioned by you, thuybang)
Buuut... I still can't connect to the update server and check for new updates ;(
If a new update come available for XT1033, I won't get it =/
No,u have to use stock recovery. When u check update,if it not work, go to recovery, choose: apply update from SD card, hope it work.

Ok,its fine buddy. Maybe u will get 5.1.1. . if its show : system up to date,u will stop in 5.1.
Because before i got auto update( i got 5.1 by auto update when i check update) ,it also got that mgs. My friend show : system up to date,he have to update manual like u.
So u go to recovery, wipe cached, factory reset ,enjoy 5.1. Dont worry, its nomal.

Alright, but... Even when I knew that there was some updates available (when I was with 4.4.4), it returned the same message (that hell message saying that couldn't connect to the update server). But it's alright, when comes a new update available I'm gonna install it manually.
Thank you again, thuybang ^^
--------------- EDIT ---------------
Whooa! I think that it really was an update server's fail, now it's normal '-'

[SOLVED] OTA updates and root : need help

Hello xda.
A few weeks ago I started getting this notification telling me a new system update was available but when I tried to do it, it wouldn't install. I quickly discovered it was because my device was rooted. I followed this guide to get the update (more to get rid of the annoying notification really) ; I made sure do download the right stock image (my device is a XT1541 2 GB) and to flash all the system.img_sparsechunk files (there are 8 in this case) and it went smoothly (booted alright) up until the rooting part.
Basically, I followed RootJunky's video tutorial but after applying the root I can't get past the bootloader's warning screen. The only difference between me and RJ is both TWRP and SU I used are more recent versions (the latest ones).
In the end I just restored the backup I had made "just in case" before the manual update (boy am I glad I made this one) and my phone's back to working order, except not updated.
So here I am : what can I do about it? Is it still possible to root this phone (youtube commentaries indicate I'm not the only one with this issue)? Worst case scenario, is there a way to get rid of the update notification?
Any help is appreciated.
You'll need a systemless root.

How to root ANY Moto G 2015 model on Marshmallow
Thank you both for your answer.
Turns out the method linked didn't work for me. Not only was the root not applied according the supersu app, but I still got an update notification after 'rooting' the phone (even though I checked for update after booting the newly installed rom for the first time and there wasn't any).
I decided to go a different route and used Titanium Backup to freeze the Motorola Update app. Hopefully this will do the trick of sparing me the notifications until I can figure out how to get OTA updates.

No offense, but if you didn't have root then TiBu wouldn't work properly... Obviously the rooting worked.
Rooting itself doesn't prevent updates or there notification, it just keeps it from being applied properly. Freezing the app in TiBu should prevent it though.

I forgot to mention I restored my functional backup when I saw my manipulations didn't work. I used TB after that.

Fair enough..
Quick update : after a couple more tries I successfully rooted my phone by following this method.
I now have the latest stock rom and it's rooted
Thank you for existing XDA! :good:
