Hi guys.
So AT&T released a software update to my d850, and it prompts to update each time I restart device, where I have to force stop/hibernate software updater.
I'm rooted on stock KK 4.4.2 and I'm comfortable with battery life, functionality, and the overall performance of g3. So I'm hesitant about the Lollipop upgrade, as I've never really bothered flashing any ROMs since I was satisfied with my g3 experience.
So can anyone give some pros/cons they've noticed with the stock Lolipop ? Is it worth the switch?
I have a general idea of what I would need to do to update. Unroot, restore the bloatware I have removed using LGs PC suite, update and root again. Or is there a flashable zip of the update that i can just download? I hit update during first prompt and I was stuck rebooting into TWRP so i had to flash an image recovery file to get back.
Best bet is to go read on the lounge and threads related to see all different all experiences
I agree that the lounge is probably the best place for answers to determine if you feel it is worth the effort. My personal experience was that lollipop didn't bring much new. Most was minor cosmetic stuff and I feel like performance is ever so slightly smoother but this could be a placebo. If you use xposed then sticking with KK for now is the way to go. The line can explain this more. If you choose to stay on KK for now, use TiBu to freeze and clear data of the software update to prevent the phone from nagging about the update. I updated out of curiosity mostly and since the use of xposed is not a big deal for me, I stock with L.

Um...you got your terms wrong. OTA is Over The Air. This update is 100% via the mobile network channel. The LG Update is PC based, requiring you to be hooked, via USB, to a PC/La[top.
If you do the LG Software update and are rooted, you will remain rooted. The update does not remove data. Be advised that you may have to revert to Stock Recovery to get the update though.
I got the update with a Rooted Stock ROM and standard recovery.
Remember, LG Update and OTA are NOT the same thing. They may be using the same file for update, but the update process is different.
So far, if you get the LG UPdate, you will not get the OTA
Also remember, to take standard precautions, like backup, and, follow the instructions to the letter. Some people have experienced problems with the Lg Update. We 'suspect' they may not have followed the complete instructions.
1. Stock Rom, Rooted ok
2. Stock Recovery
3. Updated USB drivers from LG
4. Do NOT disconnect phone from cable at 4%. There is a pause here that could take several minutes.
Most reported problems have come when the above were not in play.
Good luck.

thank you very much for clearing my doubts , i was talking about LGUpdate utility only.
hey there,
I have a rooted One Mini which runs on Android 4.3 at the moment. A few days ago, I have recieved the update info for Kitkat 4.4.2.
Now I know that I can not use the regular update on a rooted phone and for the time beeing, I don't even feel the need to upgrade. However, I was wondering about the general problem:
First, I thought about doing a full backup (Nandroid), then flashing back to stock, getting the official update and then flashing the nandroid backup back. However, I realized that makes no sense, since a nandroid backup contains all partitions and therefore would simply overwrite the updated system...right?
Now the question is: what is the most convenient way to stay updated on a rooted phone? Do I really need to flash back to stock, do the update and then go through the root process again each time?
thanks for any info and clarifying!
brokaaa
normally the devs here are much faster in providing an updated ROM then many carriers are with giving you an OTA
I'd go back to stock and take the update. 4.3 was a mistake in my opinion. Att skipped it completely and went from 4.2.2 to 4.4.2 all in one update. Lol or just flash cm11 which is a better choice yet seeing as its already pretty stable and very fast.

About 3 weeks i installed the Kitkat rom stock on my N5.
Today i tried to see something about the OTA update to Lollipop, and surprisingly i saw isn't it arrived to me.
I just tried to Clear Data from the Google Services Framework- still the same.
Somebody know how can i get it ?
Thanks for answering,
Tal.
Are you rooted? If so, you'll need to unroot to take the OTA.
Sideload this via ADB: clickity-click.
Wait. I think you'll need to sideload the 5.0 update first, and then do the one I linked for 5.0.1. Can somebody confirm this?
First of all don't clear Google services framework data that messes up stuff pretty bad. Second d, this should be in q and a section. Third just flash the 5.0.1 factory images or there is a flash able zip out if you're rooted with custom recovery.

I agree wid op...
I have used kk for past 2-3 weeks... And notification never popped out...
I flashed manually 5.0 and i got ota for 5.0.1 ... I dont knw whats up wid google ota system...
5.0 ota seems pulled, Got 3 N5 which all have the ota prompt before, but none of them get the ota message now.

So isn't it only on my device. OK.
Thanks !!
It never was your device. The OTA is rolling out in phases (not sure it's true that it got pulled but I could be wrong)... Just flash the factory images or lollipop stock ROM flashable zip. There are plenty of threads about this in the stickies...

Since many users asking the same questions over and over again i'm going to start with many "basics" answers for you
Why? because you guys won't use the search button :silly:
Can i revert back to kitkat safely?
Yes And No, If you have upgraded the bootloader.
If you have upgraded with Bootloader you might have some IMEI issues, And afaik there is none that has fixed this. Thus who hasn't updated the booloader can still revert back.
I got no baseband or WIFI
Go to More > About Device
Scroll down until you see baseband. if you don't have HOA7 in the end that means you're wifi won't work with stock kernel
Make sure that you always read the OP and if OP hasn't stated it, you need to update your modem and NON-HLOS.bin
Make sure to uncheck auto reboot before flashing!
Battery life is terrible
Yeah ofc you haven't had the rom for more than x days so it hasn't been fully set.
Can i use CF-Auto Root
NO! People who used this also flashed update-su in recovery, however flashing CF-Auto root isn't needed and it will not work due to old binaries.
How can i root?

Why does X And Y FC
because you didn't provide logcat.
Why does it takes 2x minutes for it to boot first time?
because samsung made some changes which i can't tell, i've never seen such a slow upgrading screen on lollipop neither on stock versions.

i have installed official lollipop 5.0.1. If I root my phone, I will be able to flash official updates from samsung in the future? or I won't because of triggered knox
ViPER4Android
I managed to install Viper as system app but problem is How do I Activate it? In Sound settings there is No Music fx, (although it's installed), so I don't have the option switch Viper on, let only see Adapted Sound and in custom profile doesn't select it either. Am I missing something or is it because this update is so terrible
great info Droid! saw this thread in your signature
Revert from LL 5.0.1 to KK 4.4.2 is possible even if you flashed the Bootloader!
Personaly tested and working like charm!
No IMEI lost, no issues soo far found....

yeah..they are the same but i don t know if modems are diferent. i think you should not flash i9506 on E330s
So i eventually received my lollipop OTA this morning (UK, EE).............
But what exactly do i do with it
I'm rooted (Locked BL). I obviously can't install the OTA the normal way, can i ?
I was waiting for some custom ROMS to be made available but don't seem to see any. Will these follow soon since the Lollipop update has went global?
I'm kinda torn tbh.... i have my phone set up perfectly on KitKat and it looks amazing and some of my favourite xposed tweaks aren't available on Lollipop e.g. Blurred System UI.
Anyway...If i should decide to install Lollipop (i probably will) what would be the best method?
(Are we talking going back to stock, installing OTA, then re-rooting, or is there a more simple method?)
I believe u only lose root. Install and re-root is my fiddy cent...
Download your respective firmware and make a pre-rooted rom based on it.
And flash it via recovery.
Stick with KitKat.
Sorry to hijack the thread but if I root without unlocking bootloader, will I get to update normally via ota or companion app? I don't mind losing root access if only to reboot later. And does it affect drm keys etc?
I'm rooted with kitkat and received the prompt for lollipop OTA. The point is it downloads but won't install, so to upgrade you'd need to use flashtool, PC companion or boot into recovery and flash an appropriate zip. None of those should have any effect on your DRM, but you'll lose root unless you're flashing a pre-rooted version of lollipop. If you do opt for a rooted version of lollipop it's still a bit unclear whether recovery is fully available to you, and xposed installer has a rack of issues either way...... you might want to hold for now?
Thanks for that I'll wait it out for now. The only real reason I was really updating was for the move to sd feature. Do anyone know of any alternatives?
The point is, I just wanted root until the ota. So it will update normally via sony PC companion?
OTA Can't Verify on Rooted Device
I noticed the update this morning. Phone rebooted like it was going to work but didn't. Now it allows me to download it over and over and each time it says "could not verify". Is there any good reason to want this update? I'm rooted on the 77fw and my phone works fine as is. I do not want to update and find out I lost root. Unless there is a very good reason to, I'll just wait and see if a rooted zip becomes available.
Stickin with kitkat. I will not run without root.
