I did google this. The only info I found was before the note 7 was released which I was originally gonna go with the note 7 sadly it had to blow up. Lol but I'm just curious if I buy a note 5 now would it be sufficient enough until the note 8 releases?
It'd really depend on the price you find. It's a good phone, but nothing I've been overly in love with. I'm actually looking to ditch this and Verizon to grab the OnePlus 3T. Not totally decided yet
On swappa I can buy one between 300 and 350 in mint cond.

What size? I have mine on a payment plan on Verizon at $792. It's the 64gb version. As long as it's a good bit under retail it might be worth it. Biggest thing is about to you find the drawbacks worth it?

The problem is the battery. It was always underpowered to begin with then add to that Marshmallow and now the batteries are over 1 year old. You may find yourself needing to replace the battery.
The S8 and S8+ will be released soon. I bet Verizon is going to have good deals at launch. I would not plunk down even $300 for this phone now since the battery is likely take a hit from use and it is not easily replaced. But then again, you may be able to trade in the Note 5 for at least $300 toward the S8/S8+ so maybe it would be fine.

So, I've never sold my phones before, but the thing is, I really want to move over to the phablet side of things, and I want to get the note 5. The Note 5 is slated for a q3 release. My upgrade is due already (have a HTC m7) and since I pretty much put my HTC out of commission, I'm using my Blackberry from like 2009 as my current phone.
Main question is, If I buy the s6 and sell it in like 5 months tops, what would I get for it?
It's hard to say to be honest. Since they'll be a lot of S6 devices sold the resale value is likely to be lower, like other Galaxy devices in the past. Supply and demand after all.
On the other hand the build quality is much better than previous devices and it's likely to be higher than previous years.
I'm in the same boat as you, I am intrigued by the S6, and possibly the G4, but I know the Note 5 will likely be even better.
Both are great devices (Note 4 lollipop update killed my battery life). As someone who has gone from phone to phablet then back again, I can tell you that selling your galaxy phone on ebay, CL etc can be pretty disappointing. If you pay full price today, in 6 months you could probably pull $350 selling it... at least that's been my experience. Either way, good luck, and the GS6 has been great for me so far so you can't go wrong there.
I would agree with the above post. I am guessing that in 6 months you'll probably be able to get 350 to 450 for the GS6. That's really not bad, but you'll be paying about 200 for using the device for 6 months.

Yep all the above post are accurate the note probably holds the most value of any android phone. Truth is because of so many releases android phones don' keep value well, in about 2 month you'll start seeing s6 pop up used for around 450-475 probably by the fall when the note 5 comes for a mint condition s6 32gb you'd get about 400 probably
Anyone get the itch to "Jump" onto another phone, just to try something else ?
I am on Darthstalker ROM with Jovy's latest kernel from 5.22, and this thing just flies, absolutely butter smooth, warp speed, and I get pretty good battery life, around 5.5h Screen On time.
But I am also a phone whore, having owned like 14 different Android phones the past 5 or 6 years. Typically I only keep a phone 6 to 9 months or so. But this Note 5, I got last August and with a killer ROM + kernel like Jovy's it has made me keep this phone longer than others. I really haven't seen the need to switch this phone, except was thinking of the S7 Edge, but with the bad news of locked bootloader and no root, that's a no go
I sort of get the itch to use Jump on Demand to trade in for the HTC 10, or LG G5 ( now that root available ) just to test out something fresh and different. Anyone else get that itch ?
And I am super duper pumped for the Note 6, it is looking to be a super beast smartphone. 6GB RAM, 4,000mAH battery, 5.8" screen in same footprint size of the Note 5, and will be waterproof. BUT...it also looking to be locked down, like the T-Mobile S7 line, meaning zero development, which if that happens, I don't think I will pick it up with JoD.
What is everything thinking here ? you happy with the Note 5 a year later ? What if the new Note 6 is locked, then what will you do on T-Mobile ?
I will most likely jump to the 6 even if it is locked, so long as it has an SD slot and bigger battery. I ran my 5 without rooting/modding for a couple weeks and it was just fine. There are things like package disabler pro and other non-root workaround apps that accomplish about 90% of what I need root for, so I'm not too terribly worried about it.

Why not get the International Note 6, it will come sim-unlocked and easily root-able.
Plus if you buy it at Amazon.com it will cost about $140 less than the Tmobile model.
Just like the International S7 Edge, it cost $725 + free shipping and NO TAX.
That's a total of $140 savings compared to the Tmobile model brand plus tax price.
Good luck,
Have a great day!

It'd be nice but I simply don't have that much money to drop on a phone all at once, that's the only reason I still buy from carriers.

Do you guys happen to get unlimited Hotspot on your phones?
I owe about 300 bucks on my note 5. I wanted to have 2 phones, 1 for VR/backup and one as a primary phone. thought about selling my 64gb version for 500 bucks last week but now... due to everything that's happen, seems like the "Free Market" has now priced the Note 5 lesser than what it was, selling now for about 350. Great steal but this is sad for us Note 5 users who thought about selling it. I can either keep it or use the Jump program to get a different phone. . I do have a Note 7 v2 but haven't decided if to return it or wait or what. I can't root it. Can't do much with it like I can my N5. Only reason to keep is will be for the micro card slot.
Anyways... I'm stuck between keeping my Note 5 and what to do with the Note 7.
Anybody else thought about selling their phone?
Hope our note 5 resale wont go down too much. My wife has the s7 edge and we read that it has lots of problems with wifi, bluetooth and a few other things and now the note 7 was a total piece of crap. I think samsung is going down hill with their products, I have a 65 inches smart tv and had to replace the screen on it under warranty but now the screen is getting bad again but its not worth it to pay $3000 to change for a new one. I also had a few galaxy tablets and had charging problems with them.
I think samsung's quality is not like it use to be and its too bad because samsung has really nice products
Here they are sold below $300, 64gb or 32gb (only tmobile or SM-N920W8) at&t, sprint or other models are more cheapers. S7 flat, under $300, s7 edge under $400.
The only one that does not depreciate is the iphone. The 6s plus is above $400 (only gsm models) that's too bad

On a side note if you do end up getting rid of the note 7 hit me up [email protected]
They are offering $200 for my Samsung S8+ with a screen issue(dead pixels in the corner from a margarita glass). I even checked water damage and it still said $200. Pristine no issues was $200. Are they reliable on their offers? Will they send the phone back if I dont agree to the trade in value? They pay in a reasonable amount of time?
https://www.oneplus.com/trade-in
Going to check the Pro out in person Friday but Im 99% sold
I'd like to hear more as well.. They are offering me a nice amount on my S10+ but its not paid off... nowhere in their fine print does it say that it needs to be paid off and not in the questions they ask when appraising it either. I even called in to their customer service to verify and they said it wasn't required. I can always sell the phone on ebay (since swappa won't let me sell if its not paid off) but this would be way more convenient and cost me less.
I just traded my 6T in on a 7 pro. I opt for the voucher for my phone. They are sending me a trade in kit to send my 6t back to them and they will look at the phone. I will let you guys know what happens with everything. Because they've not ask me what color or ram or mg. I would like. So like I said I'll let you know.
I'll get at least $100 more off of swappa after seller fees for my op6 then the $270 they will give me on a trade in. Not worth trading it in for me.
I think I will try the trade in program.
I would like to hold on to my old phone for a few days, while I am setting up the OnePlus 7 pro what I read that is not going to be an issue.
They are offering $200 for my 5T, but my screen is cracked, anyone knows how that affects the trade-in?

Any issues with the 6T? Curious if they stick to the online offer.
When the trade in kit comes in can you provide a phone # or email for the trade in department? I can only get a general chat person on the line who isn't familiar with the trade in process

I can't imagine a pristine phone gets the same value as a cracked/broken screen but thats what their website says. If true they must have an amazing source to fix phones cheaply. Even if they knock my $200 offer down to $150, I'll still do it. If they knock $100 off I want my phone back

I've not had any issues with the 6T. Just thought I would check out the trade in offer they had I answered a few questions they offered me XX amount for the 6T. So what the heck I'll do it. Have you not went to the oneplus web site and checked the trade in offer out? But yes if they give me a phone # or a email I will let you know

They offered me $350+$50 bonus for my Pixel 3 XL, I said no thanks! It took me 7 hours to sell it for a cool $750! But like new 4 months old.
You gotta at least try selling it privately and leave the trade-in program for last way out.

same lol... if anyone does a trade, it's like trading in their car, they're doing it cause they can afford and or the ease of everything.....
but if we want to save funds yeah, sell it for double the offer really on the market... my oneplus 6 for 160 trade in. pretty sure it would sell for £300 instantly in the uk...
T-Mobile is supposed to launch a deal tomorrow that tops the trade-in offer from OnePlus. For those of you considering the OnePlus 7 Pro, it might be worth the wait.
S8+ is selling for $200-300 in good shape thru other sites. Mine has a screen issue so their $200 offer is really good

I'm going to use Swappa to sell my mint 6T.
I have a cracked Note 8 with burn-in in one spot, and loss of finger recognition at the top of the screen (works with the s-pen). They are offering $120. Since a new screen would cost me $239, Im thinking about it. Phone is basically useless now once the top of the screen started acting up.
Htc 10 = 10$ !!
Anyone else with trade in experience?
$280 each for 6 and 6t, 140 for Pixel XL
I'm gonna trade in my tmobs 6t. It much easier and not paid off, so not worth it for another $150 or so. Let you guys know how it goes.

I submitted my phone's IMEI, but OP hasn't sent the kit for trade in... it's been 3 days. I'll update you once my device is evaluated. Plan on trading my phone for $600, then I'm going for 8GB + extended warranty.
Edit: If you sell on Ebay or Swappa make sure you take fees into account.
So backstory, I found a really good deal on Facebook Marketplace for a OnePlus 8T (US Version unlocked from Amazon) for $370. It's in excellent condition, is paid off, and seems to be the unlocked KB2005 model.
Since the phone is basically half off at that price, I'm super tempted by it. However, the other part of me almost wants to wait for the inevitable OnePlus 9/9 Pro announcements in March and maybe get that one of those on launch. I also had the idea of selling my current phone or the 8T if I'm impressed by either model. That's where I thought I'd come to XDA to ask for advice on what I should do, or if anyone has other ideas!
I currently own a 6T that I got on launch in 2018 and I absolutely love it. It still works well, but being a big tech enthusiast is making me start to get an itch to upgrade soon (especially since my dad just got a Galaxy S21 and was really impressed just helping him set it up).
Thanks all!
I also was on the fence with ditching my 6T for this one, but it's quite an upgrade in almost every way. Once you experience how fluid the screen refresh is, there is no going back. I scored mine on a trade-in promo. Wouldn't pay full retail for it, tho. Seems like a really good deal at that price point. 9 series is going to be very expensive at first, so factor that in. If anything, grab 8T and see if t-mobile is going to be running trade-in promos on them (9 series). You can always sell it on swappa for more if you don't like it.

You bring up a good point there regarding trade in deals. I'd also imagine that T-Mobile is bound to have a deal for the 9 Series. I got my 6T on their original trade in deal in 2018 where you could trade the OG OnePlus One and get $300 off the 6T. It was a no brainer, since I essentially got full value for a 4 year old phone.
Do you recommend oneplus 8t or is better wait?
Hi there, unfortunately my actual phone stoped working and I came back for my backup phone.
So I'm looking for a new phone and in this moment we can find Oneplus 8t for around $500.
Do you think that is a good deal? Or is better wait for a possible oneplus 9 lite with SD 870?
After watch and read many reviews, I did a list with the principal points. Can you tell me if the list match with your real usage?
here are the good things that I observed:
+Screen
+Battery
+Fast Charger 65w
+Dual speaker
+Oxygen Os
In other side:
- Others chargers doesn't look work well
- No SD 865 Plus
- Regular camera
last month traded my Tmo OP7T (with $90 balance, so i paid it off) with Tmo OP8T, paid $0 out of pocket, and it actually lowered my monthly by $20/mo. Tmo still valued the OP7T for $750. So, new phone, lower monthly
