Hey, using the xperia m2, with lollipop 5.1.1 (18.6.A.0.182) and i cannot get into recovery mode.
i have unlocked the boot loader, and i have rooted the device, but no combination of any button presses will allow me to get into whatever recovery i have.
i have also got the mac versions of adb and fast boot, and flashed twrm / mutirecovery to the phone, all with confirmations that they have installed, but recovery simply doesn't load up!
helps!

bootloader already updated before installing TWRP (not multirecovery)?
Hold volume (-) , then press power button & hold of both, after appearing Sony logo release the volume button but keep holding power button.
You may try using Quick Reboot app (Download from play store)

there are about 100 apps with this description, and I've tried about 5 of them. all that I've tried just reboot the phone and pop into regular mode.

Ok, take a deep breath...
So you've installed the JB update using RSD Lite. You can boot into Android, this works?
Now, you are trying to fastboot flash recovery - what happens?

I can boot into the bootloader :
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery cwmrecovery.img it starts (bootloader)variable not supported
target reported max download size of 31457280 bytes
sending recovery says it writing okay finished
turn off phone boot back to bootloader go to recovery goes to android with triangle
try booting straight into recovery the install-recovery.sh is probably overwriting your flash when you boot back up. I flash TWRP right after RSD and I boot directly into recovery after it writes it never has a problem of the install-recover.sh

Not sure why you installed an old version tho... they added that feature in a new-ish version of TWRP, I can't remember exactly which one...

Good day, its my first thread here, so I'm sorry for my english and terminology.
My Photon Q had CM-13-Nightly installed, bootloader unlocked and Clockwork recovery installed. Everything was working fine, till few days ago. Phone was left unused with drained battery, so I charged it and powerd on. After that, all app started to crash one after another. I was trying to do factory reset from recovery, erase everything from bootloader menu or using bootloader commands (bootloader erase data, bootloader -w) but nothing worked. I still have my system, with same apps, wallpaper etc and apps still crash. Are these all symptoms of damaged partition or internal storage? Will be thankful for any help
Erasing in bootloader/fastboot mode can be dangerous... be careful.
I would just factory reset and reinstall the ROM. Don't use ClockworkMod for recovery tho, use TWRP. CWM hasn't had updates in a long time (and frankly I'm surprised it was able to flash the latest CM).
I have tried to change recovery, but it was also impossible. I also tried to wipe data / factory reset, after that flashed new Rom but nothing changed. Still all my apps and settings remains. There is one more thing to add, that I can copy file from device when connected to my laptop, but cannot delete anything. Anyway, how to change recovery? Phone doesn't keep any changes for example adb debugging in developer options. CWM update is turned off, but cannot change recovery

How did you flash CWM recovery in the first place?

I think you can safely ignore the bootloader message.
As for flashing TWRP, did you boot TWRP immediately after flashing, or did you boot Android?
I believe you need to make sure you boot TWRP immediately after flashing, otherwise CM Recovery will blow it out.
After flashing TWRP hold power until the device shuts off, release, and now hold power + vol down to enter recovery. Please use the latest version of TWRP from kabaldan, or the latest official TWRP.
I did exactly as You have posted. Still Cyanogen :/ I got recovery from here: https://dl.twrp.me/asanti/twrp-3.0.2-0-asanti_c.img.html , its the newest I think

Sorry it's power + vol UP (according to my own guide...)
3. Hit power - device turns off. Hold vol up + power, then release power when the screen comes on - continue holding vol up. When you see the moto logo dim a bit, release vol up. You should now be in TWRP!
Did that - Cyanogen again :/ Have any idea why is that happening? Internal memory broke down?

I'm not sure why people have issues with this... I always thought it was how they 'completed' the flashing process. I don't recall being able to reproduce the condition.
Perhaps boot Android then boot TWRP? Or try to reboot directly to recovery from the fastboot cli? Try something different... or just fastboot boot the TWRP image? There is a problem in the process, I'm just not sure 'where' since I don't have the phone in front of me.
Already done that, before I started this thread... Nothing works. I have tried multiple combination, such as reboot to this (I don't know how to name it, B&W menu with APfastboot, recovery etc), boot system first than recovery, boot directly to recovery after flashing new one etc. Are there any fastboot commands, that I could use to forcefully erase recovery or data? You sure that it's not physical damage of internal memory?

IIRC this device will let you 'fastboot boot' images directly - I think I suggested this - have you tried it?
I'll dig around and see what else I can find from the TWRP thread. I was pretty sure it had to do with the process, but I could be mistaken.
Edit - I'll flash CM Recovery on my old Q and see if I can recreate this as well. It's always bothered me...

I'm... kind of at a loss. Make sure you have the latest TWRP. I just downloaded the latest CM Recovery, fastboot flash recovery <cmrecimg> and it rebooted to Android on its own. I reboot to recovery, CM Recovery is installed. All good.
I reboot to bootloader mode, grab the latest official TWRP, fastboot flash recovery <twrpimg>, this time when I unplugged it was still in fastboot mode. So I hit the power button, phone turns off. Then I hold power + vol up until I see the screen turn on. Continue to hold vol up, but release power. Then when the screen dims (or when recovery starts if you can't tell) release vol up.
Maybe that'll help you? Good luck.
Did exactly the same procedure as You described. Still Cyanogen. I can even record it and send here...
Could You please send me a link where I can find another TWRP ( You mentioned some developer few posts above, I guess), differend that I have found?

Hello, W1F1. There is no way at this point in time to root Project Spectrum on Oppo R7Plus as TWRP isnt compatible. They changed a lot when they made Project Spectrum. For now there is no TWRP. So there is no way to root. It's Fastboot is also set to non-root access making is hard to use the command (fastboot flash recovery _TWRP-HERE_) but not impossible to flash the stock recovery and then ColorOS to get back to safety (by safety I mean CyanogenMod 14.1 [OFFICIAL] or AICP [UNOFFICIAL]). All you need to do is ask and I'll give you the links.

JUST REMEMBER TO NOT BOOT BACK INTO SPECTRUMOS. This will reset the recovery partition as it locks it on boot

Bad news: Unfortunately my phone is now stuck in a boot loop.

pressing VOL_DOWN while turning the Phone on does not work for me,
neither does VOL_UP.
My bootloader is unlocked and fastboot seems to have worked:
Code:
C:\Users\1208P\Downloads\twrp>fastboot flash recovery twrp-3.1.0.img
sending 'recovery' (15386 KB)...
OKAY [ 0.527s]
writing 'recovery'...
OKAY [ 1.882s]
finished. total time: 2.413s
The Phone is a Sony Xperia M2 (D2303) on 5.1.1 stock (rooted)

It is a little tricky
Turn off the phone completely
Hold volume - (just volume down dont press any other botton)
Then hold power botton until Sony logo appears
Then you will see TeamWin splash screen

Xperia M2 stuck on Sony logo
I tried flashing Twrp then wiped data but installation gave error and now i have no os phone is stuck on Sony logo. Please help
it turns out i flashed it correctly, but i had not idea i should enter the recovery by holding volume down before power. in all previous sony roms i used i got into recovery by pressing volume keys during boot
I've got an M2 Aqua D2403 here and the recovery won't boot at all (short flash of black screen, then skips to bootlogo and normal boot; stuck with black screen when booting the image with fastboot). The bootloader is up to date with the latest 5.1.1 release (though I ended up flashing a stock image for d2303 apparently, still works). Is this build incompatible with my variant or is the bootloader not compatible with the recovery? Build number is 18.6.A.0.175

The build is 100% compatible with aqua devices. The bootloader update must be flashed after finishing flashing stock rom.

Yea but what update precisely? I updated to Lollipop (although as I said, a different variant that still boots up nonetheless) and I reflashed using Sony's Emma tool. Still nothing. No dedicated recoveries manage to boot up; only those that are integrated into boot.img work.
You have to update the boot loader. It's an FTF file that's flashed using Emma. The stock boot loader will only allow the recovery once if you flash it using flashtool, after which, it disappears; the updated boot loader prevents that by giving the system it's own recovery partition with which to boot to.
P.S. it's here somewhere
EDIT: Ditto
No matter how I do it (flashtool or emma), it still doesn't boot into recovery. Just the short black screen and normal bootup.

No matter what I use and do, it still doesn't accept recovery mode. Flashtool or Emma, it doesn't matter. I managed to circumvent this by just flashing twrp to the boot partition. It loads up totally fine.

I have an Aqua device,so you are doing something wrong. .182 update does not include the updated bootloader, you have to flash an extra .ftf which is linked in the OP. Emma doesn't always show the bootloader update,so your safest bet is to use that special ftf....
Xiaomi redmi 3/32gb chinese version root. miui 9.6

1st of all have you unlocked BL?
Steps are:

I already unlock the bootloader now. but the problem is i cant fastboot reboot recovery ( it seems nothing is happening )
You have to use volume buttons several Times to Switch on the screenshots recovery.

Hello.
I will tell you how.
First, unlock bootloader of course.
Get your twrp recovery file.
In command line (If cmd doesnt work do it in Windows POWERSHELL)
adb reboot bootloader
fastboot flash recovery twrp.img
once finished
fastboot boot twrp.img
and after typing this just keep holding VOL UP.
Until screen is black for like 10 seconds press power button twice(or once) and twrp will show up
