Custom Rom vs Stock Rom - Shield Tablet Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Just got a k1 tablet with stylus (B01) battery and noticed lag and WiFi playing up. If I were to try custom rom, are there features that will stop working?
1. Does HDMI out, mirror and console mode work?
2. Does the stylus still work?
3. To tegra games work?

It depends the ROM for Nvidia games, you need stock based custom ROM.

Custom rom meaning CM/Lineage

Custom ROM = no HDMI audio!

No, that's not the case anymore. The great Steel01 got it working in CM/Lineage!

Does it act like mirror mode or console mode? I.e. screen off or on

On Sgh i777, tried 3 non TW based ROMS and they doesn't work. But, adding a few cmds to the build.prop file, you will get full video and audio functionality (still can't find a way to mirror the whole UI)

I havnt used hdmi very much but i found the jellybean roms has a few issues(relating to lag) id stick with a stock based ics rom like revolver, yet your issue sounds more like port/ cable damage than software issues
I'm using 4.2.2 (see my sig) and HDMI works fine on a monitor. I haven't tried a TV nor audio, but it works fine for video as second screen.

I flash the latest TWRP, the latest TeamEOS 4.2.2 build, the latest 4.2.2 gapps, the latest KatKernel for 4.2.2 and using the latest KatApp but still the same.

Haven't tried with 4.2.2, but HDMI works perfectly with EOS3 #81 and KATKernel #69
Sound like a stuck record constantly mentioning this ROM but its the one I have 0 problems with
Plus you should try a different HDMI cable
I have not had any issues with the stock ROM using HDMI. It should just work plain & simple unless your TV is not compatible. Not all TV's will work.

[Q] Best custom rom for my device?

The title says it all.
I'm new to this whole rooting and custom rom stuff but i loved the changes a custom rom did to my smartphone and i thought i'd also do it on my Asus Transformer Pad.
I attached 2 screenshots to see all the info of my device, and tell me which roms are compatible and which you recommend.
Every tip is appreciated!

Which custom ROM is a matter of personal opinion, Personally I use PAC-ROM 4.4.2 though I have used OmniRom and Cromi-X (not Crombi-KK). What cmendonc means is that there are almost no TF300TG sources out there besides what asus provides. This is one of the trade-offs that you have to make (ie do I want 3G or a better ROM overall?). Most of the ROMs in the Developer section are pretty stable. I would recommend Cromi-x, as you mostly have everything you need and it is super stable. Good luck

I actually prefer a better rom overall than the 3G capabilities, but the reason i ask for the best rom is not about the appearance or anything like this, its just that i've read a lot of people complaining after flashing some TF300 roms, about losing their Wi-Fi, etc.
And i most certainly need my wifi.
So error-wise ( ) , which is the best rom

I'm running KK CROMi right now and it seems pretty smooth compared to a few other I tried over the past week.
Ok that sounds good
Do you have a TF300tg , or a TF300t? and if you have the TG, what are the complications, if any? if it's just the 3G, i don't really care.
Thanks

Yeah the 3G will most likely be knocked out. I have a tf300t. The rest of the ROM should function normally.

I am STOKED! Nice to see some LTE love! (What's so hard about making it compatible, I wonder?)
I have a couple of questions...
-Is it a stable beta?
-Is the touch screen sensitivity fixed?
-Is it compatible with the shield apps? (Dabbler, Shield Hub, Etc.)
Basically, I want to go back to Kitkat without all the bugs of the stock KitKat firmware.
Edit: Oh, wow. I actually got to be the first post. This post will be the first one many will see for a long time. Millions will bow before me, as they bask in the glory of my eloquence! Bow, my loyal subjects! Bow!

I haven't tested this.
Wait....is this meant to be installed over a particular stock firmware, or is it a standalone zip? Your directions don't include any wiping before flashing.

I assume he just left out this part. A new ROM flashing over a different one without wiping could lead to problems, especially if you jump from 5.0.1 to 4.4.2.
I'm also glad that someone starts with development on the LTE variant, as I am not happy with the overall performance anymore.

You should pretty much always perform a full wipe before flashing another ROM but I didn't have to on the test device.

Yeah, I know. I guess I was just thrown off by the "Wipe data/cache" and thought it looked like some kind of weird dirty flash.
I should stop posting so late at night.
This is cool, though might I ask why you chose to develop a kitkat kerel?
I will PM you later today with a proposition, I really hope we can bring some Lollipop lovin' to the LTE device! It's the variant I own too, so it's my main development device.

It's just a starting point. There was no support for LTE US, a lot of broken functionality and suboptimal performance in lollipop and a lot of regression requests.
I forgot to ask....it looks as though it was built on the source of Nvidia's ROM. How's the HDMI out? Can you connect The Shield Controllers to it with this ROM? Does Direct Stylus respond the same way? What's 2+2? Am I asking too many questions?

Yes you are. How about you take a NAND backup, flash it and see for yourself?
My guess is no not unless the porting work has been done, but unless stated otherwise the nvidia features probably don't work

I can fully recommend carbon rom with weekly updates. Also omnirom wich is similar.
Rock solid performance with carbon, very few bugs. Stable!

wouldn't mind trying out carbon Rom my self but can't get it too flash in twrp
I recomning Omni it lives on the better edge even some parts are a bit out of date, but in return it have better drivers and better kernel.
does any of the stock roms work anymore as ive been trying to boot a few but never boot up just stops on the boot animation
Bootloader
i checked by dialing that weird number in the phone app and it says i have a locked bootloader, can i still root it?
