I like to use "screen off" app to turn of my Mate 9 screen. Previously I have no issue with Mate 8.
Now with Mate 9, whenever I turn off the screen with an app, I need to two steps to log in to Home Screen.
1. fingerprint.
2. After fingerprint, I need to key in pin number.
With Mate 8, when I turn off the screen with any app, I did not need to key in pin number to log in. Only 1 step, with finger print.
Anyone out there has any suggestions?

Do you have the app in the list for close when screen is off list?

I know about floating dock, but it needs 2 steps to screen off. Screen off app only a stop to get screen off. A lot faster and easier.

I feel you... I've always had screen off app and it's a must have
feature for me... unfortunately since marshmallow update it's a security feature that disables it hence asking for pin.
Surprisingly on my mate 9, it worked flawlessly unlocking only with fingerprint... but after a restart it'd back to pin.
I tried the floating dock but too inconvenient .
Simple on my old phones. But Mate 9 and Nougat is impossible thing. Lock screen widget not working without pin. Bad surprise.... Like double tap which not integrate. Back to roots, back to buttons.
currently only 1 screen off app can function with fingerprint: Double tap to screen off (luuxxxxx developer) by open the clear view function.
I've been using Nova Launcher. If you're rooted it can bypass security needing you to re-enter the pin. On the main settings screen of Nova Launcher if you scroll to the bottom and open the Advanced menu it'll have an option for "Screen lock method" and if you set it to root it will bypass security.
^ Exactly! Cheers

I love my nexus 5 but UIs that require me to touch the top left of the screen are hard to reach. Is there any way to apply a per app hack where the top bar can be stretched or maybe lowered? I appreciate I won't be using all of the screen but it will be worth it for a few specific instances e.g. gmail and hangouts.

I'm not sure I understand what you're saying your problem is. Everything should be adjustable per your preferences by default. Maybe you can elaborate in more detail.
Had this issue with my Samsung note 2... One of the reasons I bought the nexus 5 is it fits my hands and my thumb can reach the entire screen. This doesn't answer your question but it was my solution to this problem.

Your picture actually did a great job of explaining what you meant to say. I understand now.
Silly question/statement, but do you know that pressing the "Back" arrow in most cases such as that should take your back to where you were. Most often, that specific option like you displayed, that you can't reach, can be activated the same way by hitting the back button.
There are however, plenty of apps and situations where you need to hit an option in the top left corner and the back button will NOT do this action. I have big hands and have gotten used to being able to tap something on any section of my screen.
You could try installing a mod/app to enable custom gestures in which you can swipe a gesture towards the right and set it to that function. (ex: gesture enabled when you swipe from the center of the right towards the middle, it activates a "back" option.
You can try installing "GMD Gesture Control" for this.
Just a suggestion?
Thanks for your reply! I didn't realise the back button could cater for some of these scenarios. I also didn't realise I could swipe from the left for a lot of these apps. This caters for most of the scenarios so I'm happy now, thanks!
Grabbing anywhere on the left edge of the screen and sliding right does the same as pressing the icon up high. Same goes go for play store.
good day.
I have fingerprint lock setup and us regularly. Periodically I'll get this lock icon (shown in the picture) that I have to swipe before I can use my fingerprint to unlock.
No idea how this was setup or what's going on. I've turned swipe on and off, rebooted, wiped cache, but still happening.
Anybody seen this before and if so how did you get rid of it?

When that icon appears your lockscreen is unlocked. Swipe anywhere besides that icon and it will unlock. You have smart lock activated with trusted devices. When you swipe the lock pad it locks the phone 1 time so on the next use is secured. Go to lockscreen and security, secure lock settings, smart lock, to change

I've had the same question from day 1. Thanks!
It's weird, Smart Lock didn't work like that on my Nexus 5. If I was in a trusted place it just went to the homescreen, no need to swipe. That's pretty great to know...

Same thing on my OnePlus One, if I'm remembering correctly. The way it works on the Note 5, it's faster to just use fingerprint unlock. Just click and don't even have to move your finger.

Yep it's a pretty sweet feature. They did it this way so that if you get pocket wake ups(accidental home button pressing), your device won't fully unlock and be on constantly because of smartscreen.

Lol literally look at the post above it
I hate this feature. I really wish you could turn off the swipe screen when a trusted device is connected.
Just got the S8+ and I like the AOD but then I want to go to the pin/pattern entry screen to proceed to the desktop. Instead, after the AOD, I get a lock screen that isn't used to unlock because it doesn't display my pattern entry. I have to swipe for that. Just another step.
1. How do I go directly to the pattern lock screen from the AOD? Or no lock screen if the phone isn't locked.
2. Is there a way to show the "Phone is Locked" icon on the AOD? If I see this lock up front, then I won't try to use my fingerprint on a phone that is not locked in the first place.
thx

Hard press the home button on the AOD will take you straight to your desktop, or to the pin/pattern screeen directly after a restart.
If no home button on AOD press where it should be at the bottom of the screen, it's just hidden.
Sorry, can't help with question 2.
Try this setting. "unlock with home button"

That's wonderful. No way to add the lock pattern to the lock screen? Seems silly to call it a lock screen but you have to swipe to unlock.

It's to make the interface look more simple and elegant. Turning on the phone to your lockscren to see a pin or pattern waiting right there covers a lot of your notifications and even wallpaper which is why they added an extra swipe to get to that screen. Makes more sense this way to me honestly but luckily for you u can turn on home button unlock from settings so whenever u press on the home button from always on display it takes u directly to ur lockscren security lol

as you can see i manged to get the second screen work with the main screen as one big screen using these tow apps
control screen rotation
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ahapps.controlthescreenorientation&hl=en_US
and
screen shift
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sagar.screenshift2
simply you have to use (control screen rotation) so you can rotate the screen by 180 degree and open screen shift and apply this sittings
you can make a profile using screen shift app so you only get the full screen while using a specific app
the only problem with this method is the touch screen get shifted up-word so its not accrued
but you can watch movies using netflix or any media player
niceeee

That's really nice, but you forgot to specify that you need root to get this working
I found out about another way of accessing the "full screen". If you enable the 3 tap zoom in the settings and tap the screen 3 times, then it will go into full screen and you can actually see that we don't have two screens but only one.

Wonder what the code says for this operation and if it could be used to merge the two screens permanently???

Yeah we need to wait for a Dev to see this and try it out
Furthermore, I was wondering about the marketing of this phone. I recall that it's been advertised as a phone with 2 screen's. Now, this obviously does not have 2 screens but more of a "notch". Does that make it false advertising??
I honestly feel kinda cheated by HTC. This also makes creating custom ROMs so much more complicated as it's not a second screen that Devs can just leave out, but a notch with a rather weird placement, that has to be implemented somehow.
If we do get official pie update from HTC, then I believe that has support for notches built in, so perhaps this may not be as big a problem as we think!?

That's a good one! :highfive:
This is not new to my 6a, but is consistently annoying. I use the power button 100% of the time to turn off the screen. But sometimes when I touch the FP sensor to turn it back on, I'm forced instead to use my PIN/pattern with the message "Device manually locked". What causes this and why does it happen seemingly at random?
Fortunately Smart Lock keeps it unlocked most of the time around the house...
Smart lock will require you to reauth every 4 hours. There's also a setting under "Screen Lock" - "Power button instantly locks. (except when kept unlocked by Smart Lock.)"
I've turned on Always On Display now too. This enables the sensor to be used without having to turn use the power button or double tap screen.

How is the battery life after turning on AoD? Did you feel any difference?
I need to test further. It is still deep sleeping fine and the AOD is off when the proximity sensor is covered, so the difference should be negligible.
Its usually like 3-4%/ hr with AOD on and <1% with it off

So should that option be turned off? I turned it off today and it seems to be working better. I guess what's not clear from the way that's worded is, if the power button doesn't "instantly lock" it, does it eventually lock based on a timeout?
I think I'm also getting better at using the sensor. It seems like it only gives you a couple of tries before forcing a PIN unlock and I think I've sometimes touched the sensor too lightly or even done sort of a double tap and used up all my attempts at once.

No difference. If anything it's better, lol. 3% over 5 hours. This is with the phone turned facedown so the display off. Deep sleeping fine.
