Hi everybody,
my name is Vincenzo. I am an italian guy and i have found a solution for anyone who wants to change language in Google Maps (or any other app) without changing system language. I registered only for this, I hope can help. (sorry for my bad english)
You need:
- Root, Xposed
- App Settings version 1.13
Link: https://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=3543022&d=1447594751
After accepting module, go to App Settings, found your app and set on "Settings". There is an option, "Locale". Choose your language (only for this app!) and save on the top , right.
My Maps now is in Italian (with Italian voice).
Tested with Moto G Titan, MM 6.0.1 - AOSP CAF

I ran into a problem with the recent update to the Google Text-To-Speech app.
I was testing out and trying to decide between the new high quality US and UK English voices. Somehow my default language for speech got locked into UK English: I can no longer change it to anything else, even though my default device language is US English and I have downloaded both the low and high quality US English voices.
See my screenshots - despite me changing my chosen language to US English in the Google Text-to-speech Engine settings in the 1st screenshot, once I hit the back button (or exit via the home / recent apps buttons), my default language reverts to UK English as per the 2nd screenshot.
Is there any system file I can edit to change this absurd behaviour? I'm rooted and willing to get my hands dirty...
UPDATE:
I played around with settings and managed to resolve the problem.
Clearing data from / un- and re-installing the app / restoring data from another device didn't work - what did work was choosing another default device language (NOT the voice language under Text-to-speech output). This somehow released the "lock" on UK speech and allowed me to choose US instead. I then reverted the default device language to US English.
All is now good in the world :victory:
Trying going to Google Text-to-speech or Google TTS, whichever one it is, in the app settings and clear data.

That was one of the first things I tried, but it didn't help.
Anyway I managed to resolve the problem already. Gonna update the OP.

Hi,
Is there trick to change the default language for a single app?
I have my OS in English and I have installed a French subway application.
This French subway application is using automatically using English language because my OS is in English. I would like to have this application in French (because the English version is badly done) and there is no option to change this in the app settings. This application is normally in French, but I cannot have it in French.
I have a rooted Android phone (Galaxy S4),
Regards, Chris

This app was posted some time ago. Hopefully it helps. I've tried using these before - I live in Taiwan and the naming conventions can be monstrous. There are several variants in the app store. You might also consider setting up a widget for a quick EN-FR change over before launching the app.
Bon courage !
Best, Eric

Thank your reply, this app is not working on my Galaxy S4 unfortunately. I have Android v4.3 and this app is compatible until Android v4.1.2
"This app only works until 4.1.2, some permissions changed after that and the app is not allowed to change the phone's configuration"

I have my phone's System UI primary to Japanese, however Google Assistant becomes unusable until I switch my language back to English. I can still use OK Google for the original voice searches, but not Assistant.
Is there some sort of force localization app so that I can keep System UI in Japanese, but just Google in English?
This may require some apps which must use ROOT privilege or some Xposed modules. I know a Xposed module which can do this, but I can't recall its name.
Unfortunately Android 7.x is not officially supported by Xposed yet.
That xposed module is App Locale.

I am realy waiting for xposed too...
Hello guys. Today after some research on various websites i found out that google assistant for S7 Edge (and many other devices) has arrived. Method to enable it is easy. You must switch language to English US and install latest Google App (from apk mirror for example - installed latest beta). After a while when I long pressed home button google assistant setup appeared.
Enjoy
Ps. No root needed and at the moment assistant is only working when you set English US language, when i switched back to English UK assistant disappeared and normal ok google app appeared (so make sure you stay on English US).
This has been discussed in numerous other threads including the correct section:

Hello, since yesterday I am a proud owner of the Honor Magic 2.
But how can I change the language of the stock HiKeyboard?
As you can see in the screenshot, there is no possibility for adding a language.
I want to have a german keyboard...
I hope someone can help me,
with kind regards
DGB
The only thing I can think of is, to install google services (if you don't have it) and install any keyboard app you like from play store
