Android System taking all of my battery! - General Questions and Answers

I have a Galaxy s7 and I have been using it for quite some time now , I was getting a pretty good battery timings but one day I accidentally slept on my phone and when I woke up I felt that the phone was pretty hot (I didn't bother) and I slept again.
But after that incident the "android system" started taking all of my juice like 60-65% consumption or even 95% (sometimes) which used to make my phone get really hot! (Around 1000+ mAh) I was getting hardly 2 - 2.30 SOT
I was very frustrated so I changed the battery but the issue still persists ,the consumption is a bit better like 40-45% but the issue still persists ! My phone is not rooted and I don't use many apps either. I am not very technically sound but I need help! I couldn't think of a better platform. I would be very grateful

Battery life has suddenly become much shorter

Having been really impressive so far, my battery life appears to have dropped drastically over the last couple of weeks. Previously my battery would comfortably last the whole day, I could leave the house at the start of the day at about 60% and be confident it would easily last the whole day, now I leave the house on 100% and I'm down to about 20% by the time I'm home from work. In particular, whenever I'm down to 14% my phone seems to drop pretty much instantly to 8% .
I can't think of anything I'm doing differently, only thing that comes to mind is I updated my phone via my computer a few weeks ago but no idea if that's connected to the problem. I installed GSAM for a week ago and haven't really been able to pinpoint where all my battery is going, my phone has continued to show a lot less battery capacity than before and also seems to be taking longer than usual to charge.
As expected Screen and App Usage are the main drain on the battery both tend to be somewhere in the 40%-55% region. The only thing which surprised me is that Facebook (which I don't excessively use) is pretty much always at the top of my app usage, often at about 20%-30% of the app usage. So I can uninstall and reinstall this as it may be partly to blame but it doesn't really account for why my battery is dying so much quicker than before. I could also dim the screen a bit to help but I kind of don't feel like I should have to as I've never changed it the whole time I've had the phone so it shouldn't be a cause of why my battery has suddenly got worse.
Any ideas?
I think you have to perform hard reset for your Z3 (maybe some app "eat" your battery), or boot your device in a safe mode and try to recognize what application make battery so quick discharge. Try to use stamina mode.
Did you often charge your phone? After hard reset I recommend you train your battery couple times (3-4 times), for this you should discharge your phone to 1-2% and charge it up to 100% without disconnecting. I hope it will help you in your trouble.
How much screen on time do you get?
I recommend Better Battery Stats to see what's causing your drain(maybe you can attach some screenshots). And yeah FB drains a lot.
Unfortunately I am a new user of this forum and can't post outside links but if you will enter this "These apps are draining most of your data and battery life" words into the google search you will get very interesting article about battery usage of facebook and another very famous apps.

I'm currently having the exact problem. Without making any special changes. My battery has gone from the announced 2 day levels to just surging away in the background.

You know, with my old Xperia Z was the same think after update with computer and after I had performed hard reset everything has been ok with the battery. So If you will not try - you will not know. But be careful all what you will do is on you own risk.
I think it has to do with the latest google app update. My battery life has gone down hill this past week after that.
Same here mate!

Phew! Thought it was just me who had the problem. I thought it might be some apps I recently installed. I tried uninstalling them but the battery life seemed to have gone down regardless. Its not the same as it was about 2 months ago. I used to easily end the day with over 45-50% but now i need to recharge it around 9pm when its at 10-15%. It could be the new updates that are rolling in for the various apps i already had installed will install battery stats and wait for a better picture.

Does anyone of you use Spotify? It seems to be the culprit for me. Today I have 0,7%/h drain instead of 3-4% compared to yesturday. Haven't started it at all. Seems to be the problem. It was also updated this week in the possible range for when I noticed the problem

S6 heating!!!! help

Hello guys.
So i bought the s6 non edge 32 gig model 3 days back. The phone is awesome no doubt but i had heating issues from the very first day. First i thought it might be the battery drain. did factory reset and i was getting 4hrs+ SOT with 5.0.1.
Now i am on 5.1.1 and the battery seems to have improved giving 5hrs SOT. But the phone heating issue remains the same. The phone gets warm about 92F above after 5 minutes to 10minutes normal usage.
Using the phone for 30 min the temperature is near 100F . is it normal? Cpu spy shows normal activity. The phone only heats while using it is cool with screen off. The heat is felt on the left side of camera and spreads around after more usage. Due you think its because of the climate. i live in a place where summers are always above 93F . But even in AC phone gets pretty warm.
Do you think my battery timings and phone heating is normal. Please comment i am quite worried about it i spent a lot of money on it.

i think if you're worried about it you can bring it to Samsung Service Center to get it fixed.
i donot have samsung centre in my area. infact i have to ship it to dubai to get it fixed. can you tell me does your device gets warm after using it?

wow that's pretty bad, sometimes, when using too long for battery consuming applications like gaming or such, but when i put it into my pocket when it's warm, it gets hotter.

okay so i downloaded both apps... the cpu spy shows no sign of abnomal cpu usage... it is in deep sleep for most of the time. better battery stats show no app draining battery... i only use fb/messenger and gmail app. today i got 5 hrs SOT with 22hrs usage time. i think the battery us fine but why the phone warms up so much. My question is how oftenly do you feel that yous phone is getting warm?
Maybe brightness is too high causing the phone to heat. Cases also make phones overheat.

he could be using auto brightness, which also causes the phone to spike the brightness and heats up faster
Hey, I had a similar problem with my Galaxy S6 32gb and I would only get roughly 10 hours battery life out of it with 2 hours screen on time and as soon as I turned the screen on, it would be so hot on the right side, you couldn't actually hold it. I just ended up selling it and didn't think to contact Samsung or anything because it did it every time I turned the screen on so I just thought it might've been normal. I always had everything turned off with just wifi and auto screen brightness on and just 1 Google account synced too. :silly:

Figured out it was a hardware issue... there are two ways to check if you s6 heating issue is software or hardware related. install gsam battery monitor and see if kernel or android OS (apart from any third party app draining) is draining most battery than its a software issue.
otherwise its a hardware one. i got mine replaced and the new one works fine.

Marshmallow battery history bug???

So my nexus is currently running on a fresh-installed 6.0 Cataclysm and I noticed these couple of days that those last 5-7% battery left every time my phone seems to consumes harder the battery as it normally would, lasting even up to 12-15 min. on screen (battery save off and brightness 30-40%) . I also saw on battery history that while's on idle my phone "charges" a bit every time, as you can on the image Its something i continuously notice and thats why i decided to post it. I mean i am not complaining that's nice, nothing negative here , my battery life is also improved but i think google is trying to cheat a little bit here. I dont know ... is this happening to anyone else?

Thoughts on the Verizon G5 so far?

I took advantage of the BOGO offer from Verizon and got two LG G5 at Costco. I've been using my phone lightly, but I can't help but complain about the major issues that gets everyone else talking: Battery life.
I see other people have screenshots of achieving 6-7 hours of SOT, but I'm seeing nowhere near that. The most SOT I can see is having 3 hours before hitting to a depleted battery. Occasionally as well, the phone feels pretty hot to touch when it idles or have some fair amount of usage. Even right now I have it inside a thick, bulky protective case, and i can feel the heat from the back. Is it the SD820 or is there something off?
Just to make a comparison, I have been using the Sony Xperia Z3v for a year and a half with Verizon since its release and it's a great all around phone. I usually achieve 5 hours of screen on time or even more depending on how heavy I've used it. Waterproof, dual front facing speakers, 20.7 MP camera (although very outmatched by the G5's), and the power saver absolutely works. What I mean by that is that when the power saver is on in the G5, nothing seems to load at all.
So the overall question is, how is this phone for everyone? I absolutely love the camera, but the battery drainage and overheating is an issue for me. I've had thoughts about exchanging for the S7 Edge since it's pretty much a direct upgrade of my Xperia, but I'd like to see what the G5 can really offer. Oh and, how long is it until I get the extra G5 accessories from doing that bundle deal? Thanks.
You know I've noticed peoples complaints about that but to be honest I think its just certain phones that had these issues. I don't know how but mine hasn't been hot since I first set it up. My battery life lasts me a full 8 to 10 hours depending on if I do too much gaming or YouTube. Those are my biggest battery abusers. But I made sure to deactivate the bloatware Verizon wanted to install. I've had a good experience with mine. The only time I've been mind boggled was when out of the blue chrome would cause the phone to freeze up till I reset chrome. Other than that my device has been running so smooth.

I've been one of the people complaining about battery life. In the first week or so that I had my phone, battery life was miserable. I need to be completely honest here though. After getting into my second week of using this phone, my battery life has greatly improved. In my honest opinion, I think it needs about a good week to 'settle' or 'break in'. I've done nothing different done I set my phone up and I have deleted any apps or anything. I don't know if this is the case for anyone else or not.
I like the phone a lot. It is fast and everything works well.
The only things that I want improved are
1) Screen brightness adjustment. Too dark in dimly lit areas and too bright in normal room lighting.
2) Battery Life. This is a strange one. Some days I have really good life, but sometimes the standby use it high. Google Play Services sometimes eats a lot of battery. I have to reboot to get it to stop. There are also people saying that being on wifi causes more drain. I thought this was not true for me, but I am rethinking. It may be higher when I am at home and on wifi.

So far, I've yet to achieve substantial screen on time. It's really strange, I was having my phone used from 330 to 830 tonight, and it went from 100% to 45% with only 50 minutes of screen on time. WiFi and mobile data off, and I wasn't taking a lot of pictures.
One thing strikes me is the Held Awake/Doze clarified by GSam. That's eating the most battery, what exactly is it?

Honestly, I'm not positive. Make sure in your display settings, though, that you have 'screen always on' turned off.

I haven't been able to figure out why sometimes GSAM shows very little held awake with the phone deep sleep for a majority of the time and sometimes the held awake is almost the entire time since the phone has been unplugged. It seems that if the phone gets into the held awake state that you can get out of it by rebooting, at least it seems like that to me. I have not had enough time to come to firm conclusions on this. I am pretty sure that the held awake has something to do with Google Services or Play Services. It would be great if we can get root and limit the wakelocks from these. Just have to wait on that.
Pretty solid compared to the G4. No heating issues, battery lasts longer as well. I'm at 25%, 11h 7 min on battery 2hr 53min screen on time.
I average 14.5 hours total, 3.5 screen on time. I have noticed turning wifi off when I'm not using it saves a pretty decent amount of battery, which is odd.
I'm not upset with the battery life or anything, it's better than my S4 and G4 were, but if the S7 really lasts 7 hrs with screen on.... i don't know. I have another week to decide on restocking. I do love how quick it is, it's beautiful, feels great in the hand, and the option of removable battery.
I like this phone, and while it is better than the G4 in every way (very buggy, lag, missed taps, etc), I now get paranoid about any tiny bug on this thing and wonder if a Galaxy would be more reliable.
My first full charge I got 45 hours of battery life with 4 hours of screen on time. However that was before I had all my apps reinstalled and that 48 hours with 4 hours SOT included reinstalling all of my apps. Screen brightness on auto the entire time.
Since then I've only been getting 4 hours of SOT with 24 hours battery life. That's only 4 - 6 hours more of total time on an no more SOT than what my 2 year old LG G3 was getting.
LG skimping on the battery was a mistake.

Rooted G Flex-2 H955 is draining battery very fast. Any idea why?

Hi,
Previously I successfully rooted LS966 and bricked while flashing ROM (Lesson Learnt) and paid a bomb to repair the motherboard.
I now have H955 - 15B. I successfully rooted the phone via online remote connect help, because I felt it would be cheaper than last time. After rooting,
Debloated mostly all google Bloatware and few system apps based on a list from another discussion on XDA,
Installed Pimp My CPU and reduced to 1230 Mhz
Doze to block background data traffic
Greenify to stop background processes.
This has been quite a versatile combination for me and the battery doesn't drop by even 1% until the screen is on.
Once the screen is on I am losing 1% of battery every 3 - 5 mins.
I am getting a Screen On Time of 3Hrs.45Mins only.
I have also read up on Battery Calibration issue and this is my second full charge - full discharge cycle.
But the battery percentages are still going down at the same speed.
My screen is drinking above 50% of my juice at 100% brightness. I tried to change that few times but it is more or less same.
Earlier it used to be around 15 to 30%. I am attaching current consumption picture.
While I am enjoying a good Stand By Time of upto 12 to 14 hrs, my Screen on Time is reduced to 3hrs 45Mins.
Is this normal?
Or I am missing something?
Is it the way ROM was flashed on old built before rooting because of soft brick while rooting?
Any indication will be of immense help. Many
Many Thanks.
Seems the way it should be. Changed my battery almost a week ago and I get maybe close to 4 hours of SOT, depends how you use your phone, I use it at 80% brightness though and standby time while it's just sitting on the table is days. :good: N.B. Using android 6.0.1, although it used to be pretty much the same on 5.1.1, maybe less standby time.
Also I'm pretty sure Pimp My CPU shouldn't be compatible with this phone because of the kernel and lockdowns. Maybe they've found some kind of loophole, doubt it though.
Also for the battery calibration, I fully discharge every month to 0% and then charge it to 100% while not using it and once it hits 100% it's good to go. Just the way I do it, not everyone does it the same.
Also, I never trust remote help of any kind, who knows what crap they might do, and even though I am an amateur at android rooting and flashing, I've done it myself every time cause I don't trust remote stuff.
And depending if you want root or not, you could use android 5.1.1 15c(although I don't know if the difference between 15b and 15c is that big) with root or android 6.0.1 20c without root. It's rather simple to root on 5.1.1 though, so many guides here, as long as you follow them to the letter.
You don't have to agree with what I've written here, it's just my opinion.

Are you sure you get close to 4Hrs of SOT on a brand new battery because I get 3 Hrs and 50 Mins or so but less than 4 Hrs on a phone which is 6 months old. Never changed the battery. If that is the case then I think I am doing alright. I have seen SOT Tests of phones like Pixel and One Plus T.
I dnt think pimp my ROM has any restrictions. It kind of works smoothly. It helps me cool down the hot CPU also. I have ovecome the dreaded overheating issues of G Flex 2 easily with clocking my CPU.
I have done the battery calibration. But it quite didn't help me.
I went paranoid because immediately after the root I started to observe the battery percentage on the top. And I felt its falling drastically. But on the other end my stand by time has gone upto 15 hrs. The battery doesn't drop even by a single percent until the screen is on. Once it is on it goes down drastically.
I think of the battery calibration as kind of a safeguard, it's not a necessity.
The pixel and oneplus are different beasts altogether.
Also, as your phone is only 6 months old then it's battery should be ok and as I stated before battery life depends how one uses their phone, I tend to play a few games here and there with 80% brightness and such so it takes a bit more on my end. I personally haven't seen over 4 hours of SOT with my phone ever since I've had it, but your mileage may vary.
As for the PIMP my CPU, if it works for you good, I personally moved over to 6.0.1. When I was changing my battery I removed the motherboard out of curiosity to see how the thermal pad is and only one edge was touching the frame, so I added some Arctic MX-4 thermal paste between the frame and thermal pad and the temps are surprisingly better now. Still tends to get hotter than it should but throttles a lot less now and the screen brightness doesn't forcibly drop below 80% now, even when gaming. It used to drop to 50% etc before when just browsing the web. Anyways, that's that.
It might be some background stuff eating your battery too if you had better battery life than you do now, or it might be because of the motherboard change. Unfortunately I'm not smart enough to say for sure. Also, the more you look at the battery percentage the worse it looks
Sincerely,
Azure Potato

Also, as your phone is only 6 months old then it's battery should be ok and as I stated before battery life depends how one uses their phone, I tend to play a few games here and there with 80% brightness and such so it takes a bit more on my end. I personally haven't seen over 4 hours of SOT with my phone ever since I've had it, but your mileage may vary.

Pixel is too expensive for me honestly and I am not really into expensive phones like iPhone or Pixel.
I am quite happy with G Flex 2's performance and I was only worried about SOT of 4 Hrs. I re calibrated battery and discharged and charged again 100% Thrice.
Somehow battery last over 15 hours after rooting. For example, its 3PM and I have 70% battery left even with SOT of 90 mins of movie. That is 1Hour30Mins.
And you're right, the more you look at battery. the more complicated it gets
After rooting - Greenify + Pimp My ROM + Doze + Uninstall System Apps - combination is giving me 15 hrs of usage per day. It more or less includes phone calls, WiFi browsing, Network Data Browsing, Some videos and crazy amount of Twitter, all put together through out the day.
But I am still interested in SOT per single charge.
Interesting.... Same problem here
I'm on 20A, 6.0.1
You're sitting on about the expected SOT. I get anywhere from 4-5 hours and almost never take my brightness off 0%. I'm running a fully debloated 15c setup, same as yours except a version increment higher. The most intensive thing I do on here is install new apps, no gaming or anything. If you have the Facebook app, try switching to Facebook Lite which you can download off APK Mirror. Does everything the normal app does but without all the bloat, it's only a couple MB. Apart from all the tweaks you've already listed, there's not much else we can do. I've always wondered why screen takes the most battery usage by far, maybe it's just the screen type we have. Screen off is great, I lose less than 3% every night including background updates. Screen drains at about the same rate yours does.
