Hulu play issues - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Anybody able to use Hulu and play it? I can stream it to my Chromecast, but I can't play it on the Mate 9. My mate 9 isn't rooted or anything. It can play the advertisements, but after the ads the screen is dark. Anybody have similar experience?

Network instabilities apart, It happened to me for a while on a Samsung galaxy tab A 2016 10.1 running marshmallow. It stopped after webview got updated.
It can be related, but I ain't sure. Haven't experienced anything similar on the mate 9, but since on nougat webview is handled directly from chrome, just for the sake of testing, go to developer options and check out which webview implementation you are using. If it is chrome stable, install chrome dev or canary on the play store and change webview according to it.
Another small option that is worth trying is "enable multi-process webview".

THANKS FOR THE INSITE! Really learned a bit by diving into those dev settings. Sadly didn't work in either case.

Everything works but the show. Even stranger...I get navigation, pre-rolls, and the icon in the player (NBC, or ABC, Fox...Whatever) and if I seek on the OSD the thumbnails show the scene. All of that and yet the screen is black, aside from said logo.

Just enabled CLOSED CAPTION to see if it were somehow playing behind a black box, of sorts, and it wasn't. C.C. revealed that the show or movie simply won't start. It does all the other roll and the screen goes to the player, but their player won't initiate no matter what I do.

GOOD NEWS. After an hour with Hulu support on chat they were able to resolve the issue. They have to change the player that your phone uses. They tried a few different ones and finally it worked. Been playing various shows now with no problem. So when you talk to them tell them they need to switch your mobile devices app player
It's an internal player thing, they change the app inside the hulu app itself.

Unfortunately not, let's say the app receives an x264 stream from Hulu, they have to change it on their end so the server pushes a different format the Mate 9 supports.

I tried that 100 times while on support with Hulu, with no luck. It wasn't until they told me they had to change the player that it started working. I can tell the stream coming to my Mate 9 is different because I can no longer toggle the quality option, it sets the resolution depending on the available bandwidth.

I contacted them and implemented the fix but the quality looks like crap. I might be getting rid of the phone since it has many quirks that kind of irk me. Gonna miss the battery life though.

I called and they need to change the player on the backside but the quality really isn't good

I finally got it working. I can select quality, etc.
Ended up flashing to B183. I have the 6GB version now from China. So I went from China->International->USA (C567)
Now on 183, works perfectly. I was extremely surprised
Let me know if anyone gets it to work on the 181 firmware.

I'm not noticing anything. I need to test android cast though the main feature that I felt stunk and always forced me to use my chromecast.
Where is this? Via update? The image hasn't even been posted yet...i hope to god they addressed the multichannel audio pass through for ac3 and DTS, not to mention add mpeg2 hardware decoding

Perhaps a notification is shown and after awhile if the user doesn't do anything, it auto updates?
Doesn't look like a lot is changed, from a user POV. One thing I did notice is a "restart" option in settings->about, which is nice. No more unplugging and plugging to reboot!

Google still hasn't posted factory images for 5.1. Can any of you dump the system, boot and recovery??

So far, it seems like it doesn't crash as much (only have been using it for about an hour0. I am still having issues casting tabs from my laptop. Also gave Amazon Instant another try without any success.

I've noticed the same thing happens with the apps. They are just magically updated. No questions or manual intervention needed.
I have not gotten it. maybe it's cause im rooted?
I am still waiting for update. I am not rooted.

That's because playstore is set to auto update apps by default. If you don't want that behaviour, change the setting.

I believe the existing root still works as there wasn't a new one for my phone Nexus 6 when it went from 5.0.1 to 5.1
Perfect will give it a shot. Stuck into a minor issue in the meantime. Cant mount the cache arghhh. Factory image does not include a cache.img partition. Can I use the cache.img from another nexus device?

the problem is that when I record videos on snapchat and send it. when I record the video and I replay it, there is no problem with it at all.
very nice and clear even the voice is fantastic. when I send the video to my friends, people with Iphones or Ipad or Apple product in general
my video appear to be half green. but my friends with android open it with no problem. I send video by using other apps like whatsapp to friend who own Iphone and the video was normal. Also, I sent a snapchat video from Galaxy S5 to an Iphone and there was no problem with
it. So I believe the problem is in my device.
I hope you guys can help me with it.

Since two weeks I am a proud owner of the MT7 TL-09, and I have the same issue with Snapchat. For us it seems to work all fine, but for others our videos are green in the lower part and pixelated in the upper part of the screen, both sent directly as in the stories.
I haven't found a fix yet. Deleted cache, reinstalled app etc. nothing has worked.
I wonder if you got the same issue as I do in Instagram aswell: trying to record a video in the instagram app and it starts for 1 second recording and after that it freezes and didn't capture anything?
Hope we can find a fix soon!

Yes Sir. there is nothing wrong in my Instagram video recording. after you said that you face problem with it,
I recorded bunch of videos and send it to my friends. Iphone people and Android people told me its fine and there is nothing wrong with the video. I recorded a whole video with no problem at all.

It will not let me login to an old version as it's no longer supported! do you recommend a work around?
I'm having the same problem, I'm a frequent snapchat user and pretty upset that I did extensive research on a whole heap of phones and chose the huawei mate 7. It took about a week until someone told me the videos weren't working correctly. Has anyone got a solution or the cause of the problem? I'm wondering if there's anyone worth contacting at Huawei in regards to this problem...

I did download the snapchat 9.0.0.0 and everything is working just fine.
I just contacted the Huawei hotline and they said that snapchat uses the Huawei interface and other mobiles such as the iPhone use their own branded interface which brings on this issue. He said if reinstalling the app doesn't change anything there is nothing else we can do except keep our fingers crossed for the next updated version!

Hi, I found the solution
i just signed up here just to tell you
finally, after 1 month of straggling
using a third party app
called Casper.
download it from their page (version 0.3.0)
uselesscode .xyz/android/casper/
remove spaces after uselesscode
doesn't require root
you can upload from the gallery or the camera of the casper app or the stock camera
you can get more than 10 sec( didn't try)
also, you can see and save snaps without them knowing

The solution is .. To istall the oldest version of snapchat and install it make sure to close the auto update for this app in playstore thats pretty much what u gotta do i have tried it and it works just fine .. Also this way works for vedio recording in instagaram good luck

Just install the oldest version of snapchat and instagram thats what i did and i had no problems since good luck

Spotify App

Has anyone been able to find the Spotify app? Can't seem to find it anywhere.
I have the same issue, I think the app is geo restricted

Through the music player it controls spotify on the phone and any connected device running spotify thats on the same wifi network, but where is the app as shown on Samsungs advertising literature eh?
the spotify icon is shown on the Gear S3 website fgs!!!

Spotify was up there as one of the reasons for purchasing the Gear S3.
Yes I wouldve bought it anyway, but seeing spotify heavily linked with the device was a definite biggee for me. A sweetner for sure!

I'm in the US and i cant seem to find the Spotify App either, this shouldve been a day one app in my opinion.
Have the t-mobile frontier, spotify is not in the app store for me either. Again probably the top reason I bought the watch. Hopefully coming soon.
Looks like December we will receive it.
Response I got from Spotify Support today:

Thanks for your email. We're happy to hear that you're interested to have your music with your Samsung Gear S3. We'll look into this for you.
We've taken a look at the advisories about partner devices and confirmed that the integration between Spotify and your device is being tested at the moment. As announced, we're looking to launch it officially soon.
It will be released globally through the Samsung Gear Store and the Gear S3 should be rolled out globally, as well.
At the moment, work is being done by Samsung on developing an offline caching update to the Gear S3. The aim is to have this released by end of the year.
This integration will support remote and local playback at launch as well as offline in the future. It is not live in their app store as it is yet to be tested and certified by us. The aim is to have it live globally in their Gear Store by 1st week of January, at the very latest.

Dang, this was theeeeeee sole reason I bought a Gear S3, so I can jog with my music and not with my phone. I hope they come through soon, I may return the watch under buyers remorse until the app proves to exist and work well. Otherwise, I couldn't care less about step counters or seeing texts on my wrist..
Same disappointment on the lack of Spotify, my only issue with the device.

Actually it has offline mode. In the settings you can select Stream over Wifi, and then it can work independent of the phone.
I justed tested. It stutters a bit first but then it works fine.

I got bt disconnected too at all times. I dont have spotify premium so this app is useless to me right now

Sorry, I think I confused offline with standalone mode.
I have a non-LTE gear S3, and I can stream video over WiFi without connecting to the phone.
No offline (downloaded) music though, you are right.

Dish AirTV and Adapter, post your findings! Here's mine...

After searching around, I couldn't find any place people were really talking about these things... So here we go.
After finding out about the AirTV player and adapter from Dish, I purchased one. Here's what I've learned.
The adapter is a Hauppage WinTV-HVR-955Q. I tested it on my laptop and it works just fine. Best Buy sells that model for $59. Dish sells them for $30. Bonus.
I haven't tried sideloading the Amazon VOD app, but that's next on my list. Also, hoping that AT&T will release a DirecTVNow Android TV app soon. My question is, when they do, is there any way for Dish to block it on their AirTV box? Considering it is their direct competition. Or can we just root this thing and do it anyway? I'm thinking about just keeping the AirTV adapter and getting a SHIELD and going that route.
Anybody else messing around with these things?

They don't have any factory images available, but I got word that they are planning to push an update OTA by end of February.
We'll have to grab that when it's downloaded.
You can access recovery by plugging it in and holding down the "find remote" button.
Android recovery
Technicolor/uiw4010ech
6.0.1/MUF05/1.0.2.111816
Then you can reboot to bootloader, which then just starts up Android.
You can disable the sling app in settings and it won't then auto launch.
I like the remote of n the device. It automatically integrates with your TV using infrared. I am going to try it on the Nexus player to see how compatible it is.
Can one of you pull the sling apk from your airtv box? TIA

haha no worries. If you have a time that would be great. I'd like to take a look at the APK. And if sling ever gives you guys the promised update with full integration, I'd like to have a look at that one too. TIA

Could you get the sling apk for this. I'm having scaling issues with SD content on Android TV version. Want to see if this is any better.

I'm curious if it's possible to get rid of the built in interface and move to stock android tv. And still allow us to use the OTA dongle

I have been using it for about a month and purchased because of the Sling promotion (Model UIW4010ECH). Works pretty well and has a good tv guide interface that combines the Sling and OTA channels. I am very annoyed that it blocks several apps including xfinity and amazon video. I'm trying to get amazon to work. I have ES file explorer installed and pulled the amazon apk from my nexus. Tonight, I plan to spend some time tinkering. If there is anyone with advise, I'm all ears.
I downloaded the Amazon instant video for android from API dot.com and side loaded it. it was version 4.1.20 which I think is the apk for Sony smart tv and after reset of airtv player , it has worked fine.
DirectTV app for tablets works, until I click on a channel to watch....lol

Has anyone figured out how to record OTA channels on the AirTV? I got the tuner through the Sling promotion and it pulls in all my local channels fine in both the Sling app and the Live Channels app. I put a 32gb USB thumb drive in the second USB to test if I could record anything but there does not seem to be an option to do that. My understanding is that in the Live Channels app guide shows that can be recorded should say something like "DVR recordable" in their listing. I didn't see that for any of my OTA channels.
I also tried sideloading the Plex Server app from a ShieldTV just for ****s and giggles but that wouldn't even install.
Has anyone had any more luck than me?

I'm also curious about this.. I have seen a couple reviews indicating they have disabled any kind of external USB support.. however, they do say on their website, "OTA DVR coming soon". That leads me to believe that they are looking into allowing external storage but that that haven't made it that far yet, which makes me sad.
I'm going to try and see if it can locate my NAS drive and get a 3rd party tuner app to record shows to it over my network. Other than that I don't think there's any way to get it working unless someone roots it and gets USB storage working natively.
Sorry if I am not knowledgeable on these things. I want to download and enable the apk for setvnow on the AirTV. Right now it only allows apps from the play store. I need to access the apk via a website. If i can then this box might just be what i need to combine IPTV and OTA TV.
Maybe the wrong spot, but I was trying to get the USB tuner to work on my Nexus. No such luck. I plugged it into my window 10 comp and had to manually download the drivers to get it to work since it's a Haupaugge (sp) adapter. Any idea to get it to work on the Nexus player. Those adapters are cheaper than it's own ones. Thanks
Edit. Just a thought. Been playing with it (Xbox one, etc) I wonder if dish blocked any device from Auto detecting it to find drivers??

Will do, does the crash happen all the time for all videos ?? Thats wierd, what android version are you running ? And did you have this issue before ?

Not, not for all videos, it can play one episode from a season normally, but than crash consistently on another episode. Also it sometimes crashes if I set quality to highest, but then I set it to lowest on the same video and it doesn't crash.
I have Nexus 6P running stock 7.1.1. No, didn't have this issue before the update.

One question are subtitles activated by any chance ?
This app saved my life yesterday. Had to wait 3 hours between class and a date. Worked perfectly.
But this morning I've been getting these issues. Videos won't load. Is it something wrong on my end?

Hey, this is wierd is this only happening after the latest update ? Did you try switching to low quality ? Different qualities have been added on latest update and might be causing the problem I will try to reproduce the problem and fix it right away

Changing the quality didn't work unfortunately. ? It was happening before and after the update.

It happened on 6 and 7.
Yesterday on 6 it worked great.
On 6, the video would just not load. I let it sit for maybe ten, twenty minutes and nothing happened. I updated and now I'm getting that error.
I am fixing some codec issues and will post an update un 30 min or so would you mind testing and telling me if everything works fine ? Are you on 3g or a low speed internet connection ?

Could you try disabling subtitles and see if you have the same problem ? In what language are you running the subtitles ? Is that russian ?
