my review after using REDMI PRO for some days - Xiaomi Redmi Pro Guides, News, & Discussion

here's my quick personal thoughts (64gb high edition)
design and build quality: it feels more premium than my g3.. and i love its design .. but i've a problem with its design.. above screen is... well.. too empty!!
i wish it was more minimal or at least they put a name or sth in this empty space (u cant see the empty space in pics.. u have to see it urself)
performance: pretty much fast n smooth .. better than my cm13-running LG G3 .. i've scored 90k in antutu (55k g3 , 80k note 5 with double price) even
graphic result was satisfying ( i didnt expect mtk device to perform good in term of graphics..)
it has the best and fastest finger scanner I've ever seen..!
battery: decent .. much better than g3..
audio: good enough
camera: not the best but its one of the best by its price.. (on par with my cm running g3)
software ( UI ) : fascinating!! brilliant!! nice ui.. nice animations.. fast n smooth.. much better than stock lg ui or even aosp
display: well.. i've disappointed.. if u r amoled user, u can live with this.. great contrast, vivid colors, nice viewing angels.. but i was an IPS user
for me it's whites are too green/yellowish like samsung s5 ( 1st i bought s5 then i changed to g3 for its greenish whites) changing screen type in settings doesn't help any much i didnt have any problem with its lower res display.. it's pretty sharp
overall its pretty good choice for its price.. dont hesitate and buy it .. worse problem which i have with, is the green tint of display .. most of pepople dont notice it.. im very sensitive.. u cant find better devie with this money
i hope these help u

Nice review. I can confirm most of it. The display disappoints you because it doesn't compare well to (good) IPC LCD + not as good as (expensive) samsung AMOLEDs. Overall the display is pretty good. Especially for a recent phone in this price range. I got my redmi pro for 162€
Just one question.. Why didn't you pick the redmi note 4 as you are a IPS-type of person? It has IPS LCD.

'cause i was tired of bad contrast and unsatisfying black level in g3.. it was unpleasing watching movies in it.. overally i think amoled technology is much
better.. new samsung devices have really good screens and even whites are pretty much white..!

Both the Note 3 and the G2 should be lag free considering the powerful S800 SOC in them (The HTC One with the S600 is smooth already), the LG G2 has an IPS LCD while the blacks are good they are not "true black", and stuck/dead pixels can happen in any device with an LCD and to some extent could happen to an AMOLED too.
Hmmm. Kill lg g2.. I m fan of true black lol..
S4 or note 3 there is so much price difference BTWeen that phones..
S4 is for 34k and note 3 is for 45k in Indian rupees.. Which so much difference.. Would u suggest me s4 ? Or note 3 ? If note 3 have not much feature for its so much high price..

I find the Note 3 the much better phone than the S4, much bigger screen (5,7" vs 5"), faster processor and GPU (S800 2.3 GHz with Adreno 330 vs S600 1.9 GHz with Adreno 320), more RAM (3GB vs 2GB), a better camera (4K recording (2160p) vs Full HD recording (1080p)) and a bigger battery (3200 mAh vs 2600 mAh) and it has a WACOM digitizer and the S-Pen which the S4 doesn't support. As for the price the Note 3 was just released while the S4 is on the market for a while thats why the big difference in prices.
G2 D802 VS NOTE 3 N9005
I hope and I believe this post might be useful for someone who is deciding between G2 (D802 UK Model) and Note 3 (N9005 UK model).I have been following this thread for a long time and read all opinions in these forums, but never wrote any opinions. Short Version for the answer is, I have picked Note 3 over G2 after using both for 2 weeks. I have also used S4, S3, Note 1,Note 2, Htc One and S2 quite a lot so am aware of the pitfalls of Samsung devices.
Long Version and my reasons are below and these are only my opinions.
LG G2 Pros (G2 over Note 3)
1) Screen whites are clear white and LCD screen is very good. Especially reading books and web you will see clear whites.
2) Knock on feature to lock and unlock is the most used feature and once you start using it , you will start thinking how good it is and may
be all android devices copy this feature. I actually started knocking other devices now and trying to mimic this feature on note 3 with some 3rd party apps and as you all know they are not the same and don't work that well.
3) Bluetooth sound on my planatronics voyager hd is better for some reason on G2. More clear and high volume.
4) Wifi and mobile signal is really good , more than note 3. I guess its atleast one bar more on G2. Call quality is also very good.
5) Single hand usage is really good and its almost a perfect device. (Almost perfect !!! -- reason in cons.)
6) Lots of customisation options like multi wallpaper, zooming in for sms windows and themes in G2 stock rom. I actually
give more marks to G2 stock launcher. G2 Keyboard is also good.
7) Battery life is really good. I use mobile devices to watch atleast 2 hours of video in a day and not a single day its completely finished.
8) Camera pics are really good in day light and good in night time when there is sufficient light.
9) Back buttons are also nice , some might prefer and some might not.
G2 Cons:
1) G2 looks beautiful from front, but back is ugly , plasticky , cheap and damn slippery. Reason almost perfect is because if they made the
back more textured or grippable , they would have sold may be more devices. I actually find handling note 3 easier sometimes as note 3
device textured back is really useful. People call samsung plastic, but note 3 build quality is really really good. LG back sometimes make a
creaking sound and if you drop I can guarantee that G2 will break rather than note 3 due to edge screen on G2. Actually I feel that I will
drop G2 more quickly than Note 3.
2) Inside the house the low light pics are horrible and full of noise. This surprised me and I am disappointed with camera on low light
pictures. One more thing I have noticed the G2 camera pictures sometimes have blue hue to the picture.
3) Video recording ,,,,, oh my dog ! Am not sure what to say about it, its bad, it keeps auto focusing every 2 seconds to a point where it
gets really annoying. Am note sure how this has gone through QA testing from the company. I was really looking forward for camera, but
my kids videos all have come really bad.
4) To my surprise even though the screen is crisp and clear and good for reading, I did not enjoy watching movies on LG G2 screen. I
guess am used to Amoled pure blacks while watching movies. And also if you just view the screen even with a little angle of 20 degrees ,
the viewing on screen becomes real bad.
5) Outdoor viewing is OK but not great.Screen is really shiny outdoors and am actually a bit surprised that outdoor visibility is not great
compared to HTC One or Note 3. (Note 3 really surprised me outdoors)
6) No sdcard and battery, I know its not a con for some people but after using lot of galaxy phone am kind of used to have all my books
and movies on sdcard. Convenience can sometimes be a con for people like me.
7) On screen buttons look ugly while playing some games. Some people prefer this but I dont.
8) G2 somehow feels heavy and its around 140 grams approximately.
9) I have been waiting for an OTA update for so long , but with past history of LG not doing software updates quick enough, I really have
some reservations about their record.
NOTE 3 over LG G2 (Note 3 Pros)
1) Oh my God ! Screen is really beautiful and crisp, its like a small LED tv on your hand. Absolutely brilliant, not sure why I prefer this over G2 I
prefer actually reading news on Note 3.
2) Textured back and lightweight make it really really useful and this is only 24 or 28 grams more than G2. To my surprise I really liked
the leather textured plastic back which make note 3 easier to grip as well. Build quality is really good and no creaking noise anywhere.
3) Amoled screen, Watching hd movies on this screen is really great. Colour saturation can be a bit more on standard setting, but if you
choose professional mode you will see a lot of difference. May be am biased here but once you watch movies on Amoled screen, its difficult
to go back to LCD. I think the best display quality is HTC One, but htc one has got too many other headaches which am not going to
mention here.
4) Outdoor visibility really is nice now and I dont have to worry , its clear and actually better than G2.
5) S-Pen is really more useful now than before and the handwriting recognition improved quite a lot. This is really a very productive feature
if you really use Citrix xenapp and remote desktop to check office work extra. For me this is where S-Pen is really useful. Air view touch is
also nice.
6) Video recording quality is really very good when compared to G2, No auto focus issues and I have taken 4k recording and slow motion
videos and they are really good.
7) Camera picture quality for indoors is better than G2.
8) I have already got 3 OTA updates in a week and I guess this is where Samsung scores high marks and software updates are really quick
from Samsung compared to G2.
9) Speakers are good and better than G2.
10) Once you are used to Sdcard and the option of extra battery, its really hard to go back to the closed world. Old habits die hard.
Note 3 cons:
1) It feels big and is big. Sometimes my hands get tired if I try to use too long. I really wish width was a little lesser. But am negating this
issue by using gestures via 3rd party apps. But definitely feels bigger than G2.
2) If you are like me and use the phone on commuting in undergrounds, using with single hand can be difficult. This is where G2 scores
high.(G2 is also slippery but fits in hand)
3) Camera is OK in low light conditions, but not great. Not that impressed here. Default settings are changed in video mode and camera mode and its really annoying as I had to go through lot of settings to get it right.
4) They have removed some features like Popup browser, Eye Scrolling and Air view on browsers compared to Note 2. I don't use these
features other than popup browser but these features can be useful for others.
5) Bluetooth sound is low compared to G2.
6) Wifi quality and signal quality are always one bar lesser than G2.
Conclusion: After using both for a solid 2 weeks I have decided to go for NOTE 3. Ultimately the features for productivity, convenience of
sdcard and battery, display quality , and the timely software updates won me over the G2. And this is all for 50 pounds more.
Hope this might be helpful for some.

Well, if for you region locking is no problem, get what you like,
else dont buy a samsung device. Wait for custom roms. Knox security is an easy way to lose warranty if you flash any rom aswell.
I would go for note 3

Phone with Best Camera and Performance

Hey there,
I am looking for a new phone, kinda fed up with my previous Galaxy Wonder which was bought considering budget limits, but now I'm on to buying a new phone, for myself and for my mother.
For me, performance is the most important thing, a phone that I can keep for a couple of years without headaches, and for my mother Camera is the most important thing- she wants quality pictures with sharp images. I guess a phone which has both would be the better choice. I have come to the conclusion that just looking at MP doesn't tell you how good the camera really is (my 5 MP Carl Zeiss Nokia was way better than my friends 8 MP Sony Ericsson at the time, or it seems iPhones take very sharp pictures). So what phones do you recommend we buy (Do you guys consider iPhones and Microsoft phones like Nokia as well?)
Thankyou

Galaxy S5 is great too. 16MP stills and 1080p/30fps video. GSM Arena ranked it second and first for stills and video respectively. Also a good all around phone, if you don't care about using the stock Android UI!
Have a look at the Galaxy K Zoom. It's designed as a camera that you can also use as a phone, not the 'phone with a camera'.
Alternatively, the Note 4 has a good sensor, too. And it is the most powerful phone available on the market. You can keep using that without any headaches for at least 3-4 years as high-end, and mid-end for another 2-4 after that.
The most important thing to look at for camera quality is the sensor size. The bigger the sensor, the better the photographs.
The best camera phone are the Nokia Lumia, if you want Microsoft OS, or the Xperia z3 if you want android; the latest has pretty performance and battery life, but I'm sorry I don't know nothing about Nokia because I don't like the OS let me know what will you buy

Note 4 is HUGE, i don't call those things phones tbh! and it is very expensive.
What about Xperia Z3 and Galaxy S5? Any opinions on those?

Great advise! How can I find the sensor size for a phone? Cuz I didn't see such a thing on GSM Arena Phone Specs.
K Zoom seems a fine phone, but low CPU and lots of complaints about dust getting into the phone and other issues by its users.

Right, I'd forgotten that the K Zoom only comes in the Exynos variant. Sorry about that.
Sometimes GSMArena does list the sensor size, It's under Camera > Features if they do. (For instance on the HTC M8 (1/3'' sensor size).) In some cases they list the sensor size in the review of the phone.
Sadly, it mostly comes down to Googling " [phone name] Sensor size".
The one in the Note 4 and S5 are 1/2.6”. The Note 4 also has Optical Image Stabilisation, which adds a clear advantage in terms of image quality.
HTC M8 and iPhone 5S are 1/3".
With sensors under 1", the lower the number behind the /, the better. (So 2.6 is better than 3). Admittedly sensor size isn't everything, but it's the deciding factor when it comes to sharpness, particularly in less than full-light conditions.
I have an explanation on sensor importance *somewhere*, let me dig around for it.. Edit: Ah, here it is: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=50953511&postcount=6
I remember one Lumia had a very good camera
honestly i always think iphone cam is not bad. but if if its android htc definitely have a decent cam

Aha, so according to his:
Z3: 1/2.3 and , 5248 х 3936 pixels, 20.7 MP
s5: 1/2.6 and, 5312 x 2988 pixels, 16 MP
K Zoom (as the ideal camera): 1/2.3, 5248 х 3936 pixels, 20.7 MP
Clearly, Z3 is the best of three. Its camera is better than S5, and the same as K Zoom. it is smaller in size, less weight (16 grams), 0.7 inch smaller Screen (which is actually a positive feature for me), better Androind version, also will upgrade to 5.0, has radio, fast charging, none of the nonsense apps of Samsung which i really hate, better performance rate
But S5 has a one third better screen quality, Corning Gorilla Glass (I'm not sure if this is better than IPS), microUSB 3.0 (I don't think that's really important), dual video recording (maybe an app can compensate for this), better battery, and it seems it is much more efficient (21 hrs talk time compared to 12 on z3!!), better contrast ratio (i dont care)
Same chipset, same CPU, same GPU, but the endurance rate on z3 is 101h compared to 72h on S5, I don't know what that is.
I think I have chosen my phone , except the battery worries me.

Are you looking at the Z3 or the Z3 Compact? From the specs i'd say the Compact, correct?
The reason the S5 has a better batterylife is because of the AMOLED screen. AMOLED has the advantage that black pixels are off as opposed to dark grey, meaning they don't drain power. (AMOLED is also more colour intensive and crisper.)
Contrast ratio is simply because of the darkest grey vs turned off pixels. AMOLED is the only type of screen capable of true black. Oh and it has a higher readability in direct sunlight.
IPS is a type of display, not a type of glass. Corning Gorrila Glass (3) is very tough, but I don't know what's on the Z3 or how it holds out in tests. You can always look up droptests on Youtube.
MicroUSB3 isn't important, as the MTP protocol slows down transfer speed right down to the USB2 values anyway. Samsung dropped USB3 on newer devices.
The S5 doesn't have a radio, no. That bothers a great many of us, myself included.
The Snapdragon 801 is the part that has the fast charging. All S801 devices have it.
Touchwiz is a waste of time and space, on that I fully agree. (They laughed at me when I told them so, though.) Fortunately they've changed the principle a bit so that it doesn't come with 100 bloatware anymore, but there's still some of it installed. Mainly, Touchwiz. (ugh!)
The S5 has KNOX, which you can't not trip whilst flashing custom roms. It voids your warranty.
In terms of security the S5 has a fingerprint scanner.
There's one other thing to the S5 I should mention, and that's the disgustingly ugly UI colour scheme. Which you can't change.
the tl:dr version:
- The S5 screen is AMOLED, which turns black pixels off. That doubles the battery life.
- IPS is a type of LCD display, (The S5 has AMOLED) Gorrilla Glass is a type of treated scratch resistent glass.
- All Snapdragon 801 devices have Fast Charging.
- USB3 is a waste, MTP doesn't allow USB3 speed.
- The Z3 has a radio.
- S5 has KNOX.(negative thing.)
Simply put the S5 has a better, brighter and crisper screen with better battery life; the Z3 is more compact, has a better camera and an FM radio.
You can also read these two and compare the photo's for a decent camera comparison.
Z3 Compact: http://www.gsmarena.com/sony_xperia_z3_compact-review-1135p8.php
S5: http://www.gsmarena.com/samsung_galaxy_s5-review-1064p9.php
Is the fact that Z3 Compact has non-removable battery a fact to worry about?
Obviously, Lumia has better camera. But if you want it with better performance and battery life. Z3 would be a better choice.

I don't think it does, because it's a 10 MP camera with 1/3.4" sensor size. Although yes, it is Carl Zeiss.

CAMERA
A $100-200 dedicated camera takes much better pictures than any smartphone ever could (especially with 10x+ optical zoom). Your mum would be better off with such a camera in addition to a smartphone. At any rate, all flagships have "good enough" cameras with not a lot to choose between them. Mid-range and budget models often sacrifice the camera to meet their price points (one reason buying used high-end flagships is an option to consider).
OS
For some people iPhones/WindowsPhones/Blackberry/etc are taken into consideration particularly for the convenience of having the manufacturer control everything so you don't have to. For others, the somewhat open [source] nature of Android is paramount - it permits options that the other platforms actively prevent e.g. custom roms, privacy controls, customizations.
PERFORMANCE
You say performance is the most important thing. What level of performance?. I'll bet that a Samsung Galaxy S2 (yes S2...not S3, S4 or S5) is plenty fast enough for most people today and the Moto G is faster than that. So, is a Moto G performant enough for you? Or is it more like Nexus 5? Perhaps you need Note 4's level of performance? What activities requires the most performance on your phone currently and for the next couple of years?
Personally, I rate water/dust resistance highly (Xperia Acro S, Xperia Z/Z1/Z2/Z3/M2 Aqua, Galaxy S5, HTC Butterfly2). A 720p screen should be minimum now that the 1st gen Moto G exists. I prefer both a microsd slot and a removable battery. I would certainly want both if paying for a high-end device.
The Xperia Z3/Z3C, HTC Butterfly2, Samsung S5, Nexus 5/6 are all contenders if flagship devices are what you want. If you want to pay less, the Moto G and used flagships (Galaxy S3/S3/Note3, Xperia Z1/Z2, Nexus 5) are good options.

Moto G 2015 Display

How is the display (in terms of color, contrast, gamut, brightness) aka quality in general?
I know that many complain about the resolution; but besides the resolution is the display good ? Feel free to compare it to other devices, even the Moto G2.
Feel free to link reviews that tested the display.
I was a Z2 & G3 user for almost a year and I really enjoy this 720p screen plus the feeling hand's on the device offer in this budget price, very comfortable for daily use

Good to hear. Read some reviews that said the screen was dull and washed out, but they're probably used to OLED displays.

Any Samsung Note user here?

I was just wondering if anyone of you guys used to have a Samsung phone from the S series or the Note one.
I am thinking of changing my Note 8 with this one, I just want a larger, NON-curved screen...
Any shortcomings I should know about besides the obvious ones ( lack of pen, wireless charging , IP68 waterproofing etc ) ?
Are you overall happy with it ?
Cheers~
I come from Note 8 ..and never come back..
Hello!!
I have a note 8 and I have extensively compared it to the NEX. Here are my observations.
According to me the best thing on the note 8 is it's display and it still holds true. Though the NEX has super amoled screen, it can't compete with the Note 8. Note simply has better and more saturated colours and screen is much sharper.
The second best thing on the note is it's camera, which again is better than the One on the NEX. NEXs front camera sort of fares with the note, but when it comes to rear camera, note 8 is definitely better. Note's camera has better colour accuracy, its sharper and more reliable compared to NEX.
Apart from these 2 things, I feel the NEX sort of does better in all other areas. Battery is way better on the NEX compared to the Note, I feel the OS is more custamisable and smoother than the Samsung's and fast charging is superb too.
I am super sensitive to colours and sharpness,so sometimes I miss the Note's display and also like I said, camera on the NEX is not as reliable as the Note's.
Over all I am really happy with the NEX and I think I am going to keep it. I still have my note 8 which I am planning to eventually sell in a week or 2. Let me know if you want to know anything specific apart from what I have shared

Hey,
Thank you for your answer, appreciated!
What version do you have, the chinese one or the indian(international) one ? From where did you buy it?
Do you find the quality difference between the two screens significant ? Can you live with it? Do you have the impression that the screen is much larger on the Nex?
How does the Nex under direct sunlight? Is it readable?
Is the incall sound good enough?
Did you experienced any bluetooth problems?
Is there a easy way to transfer all of your applications from the Note 8?
The FUN OS is usable or really horrible as the reviewers are saying ?
Thaaaank you !
Hello!!
I have the Indian version and I bought from amazon India.
The quality difference is definitely significant, but I am slowly getting used to the NEX display. Like I said, the colours and sharpness on the Note 8 is significantly better. But you can live with the NEX display.
Screen feels a little bigger on the NEX but that's not too significant. The hand feel is pretty good on the NEX. I like the heaft of the phone and the screen to body ratio is the best part on the NEX.
It is quite readable under direct sunlight, but again it's not as bright as the Note.
I have had no issues with the Bluetooth so far.
In call sound is pretty decent and quite usable. So no complaints there.
I don't know about transferring data from the Note as I did not do it. I just set it up as a fresh device and downloaded only the whatsapp back up from my Google account.
The fun touch OS is been good so far. I find it perfectly usable. The only thing I don't like about it is it's IOS lookalike icons and setting menu. I would have preferred more muted and simple icons. But the OS is pretty decent otherwise.
And I forgot to mention one more thing, the FP scanner is a hit or miss. Works most of the times, but sometimes there is a bit delay. I definitely like it more than the Note's FP scanner as it buddy never worked for me properly. I was using the retina scanner on Note which was again okay. So, I personally like the FP scanner on the NEX, thougg I would have preferred a faster face unlock.
Also, the call quality and network reception is much better on the NEX. Especially with the given earphones, the call quality is so much better on the NEX which I am super happy about.

I think the nex screen is great
But Samsung always keeps the best one for sam phoned
Here is the picture. And I doubt if you will find any online portal in India that can ship the phone out of India. You will have to ask someone coming from India to your country. BTW, which country are you from?

Martinique/France. Thank you !
One other thing to add a bout the NEX is you can remove the bottom three capacitive buttons and have the screen all to yourself.
I've just ordered it, can't wait to get it !
Thank you all for your help, appreciated !
Cheers~

Great!! Congrats on the awesome purchase So, how do you like it compared to the Note 8? And where did you buy it from? And I discovered something about the NEX display and I have shared it in a thread under guides and news. Do check that out as it will make your NEX's displays as good as the Note 8

A Comfortable, Fast Phone with Stock Android?

I'm from Turkey but I can import if it's not here and I'll consider every price. I'm comfortable buying from rather unknown brands. I just want the best experience:
120Hz, OLED screen with nice colours that feels nice to touch
nice camera with stabilisation, nice zoom (not the crazy 100x stuff), 60fps video and photo preview at 1080p
waterproof against water drops like rain
speakers as good as possible!
and a CPU that will give me a smooth experience with scrolling etc
with a battery life that doesn't suck;
gaming is not a concern, fast charging, headphone jack or wireless charging are useless
But most importantly make it feel light and good in the hand please. I hate how my Redmi Note 8 Pro feels, it's heavy, ugly, cheap-feeling, and my hands keep sticking on its back. It feels like I'm lifting a phone more than holding it.
The S21 I've tested felt great though, my thumbs loved the aspect ratio too. S21 is great for everything, except for its OS... If it had stock Android, I'd buy it without a thought but I really don't like OEM flavours like OneUI, MIUI etc... Is a custom ROM on it perhaps a good idea?
Thanks for all the answers! I've had my eyes on Pixel, OnePlus, S21 but none of them feel quite perfect. I'm sure there's something I'll love! Thanks again in advance
My recommendation: Google Pixel 5.

yes i love it but worse screen resolution and refresh rate, cpu, camera compared to s20 but idk if theres really no other choice it's a nice phone, what do you think about 4a vs 5? is it worth the huge price jump? what are the differences even
12% worse cpu, no water resistance, both really great cameras, but losing ultrawide, 20% less battery, and most importantly for me 60hz instead of 90.. altho i havent tested so idk if it matters. if it doesnt that much, i dont think it justifies the twice as much price unless theres something im missing
