Does this come with a screen protector preinstalled? - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

Did this have a screen protector already on it out of box?

yes

Yes, it does.
Sent from my MHA-L29 using XDA Labs

Yes with a bad one. I had some dust under it after first day. I tried to clean it and all just got worse. Got rid of the protector.
Meanwhile my 2 months old Oneplus is still spotless.

Yes. Also it comes with a back cover.
@CandyAndy: mine is ok. I have the phone for two weeks now and the screen protector is perfect.

The preinstalled foil on my Mate 9 is a fingerprints magnet. Mate 7 had a better quality foil (not so many fingerprints).

Like Adrian, mine's in perfect condition after 1 month of use. No peeling, no bubbles, no trapped dust.

USA version came pre-installed with screen protector and case.

Tempered glass screen protector

Just ordered a 6x, do someone know something about a good tempered glass screen protector?
Is the screen flat or curved on the edges?
flat protector https://www.amazon.co.uk/Protector-APICI-Tempered-Hardness-Anti-fingerprint/dp/B01MG9MLRJ
Thank you, I also found some by googling, I ask about something someone tried.

Mine came with some kind of screen protector already stuck on the screen. Also seems to be fairly stubborn to remove, did anyone else's come delivered with it?
Would prefer to have a tempered one, but the one currently on there seems to be made of glass already.

It's probably a plastic PET screen protector, which has really strong glue on it. I doubt Honor would supply their devices with a tempered glass screen protector straight out the box.
My must arrive on Monday, I hope that there will be a protection like on yours..
Edit:
Arrived today and there is a sort of hard protection on the display, not glass but probably policarbonate, invisible.

Ordered a tempered glass screen protector from nilkin.org, but after paying i noticed the payment going to some russian name, but nilkin is asian as far as i know.
Also, some reviews on google classify this website as a fake / scam.
So for now, avoid nilkin.org.
The official website doesnt list any honor 6x support, so i'll have to wait and see if what gets delivered actually fits, if it even arrives/was sent at all.
i bought the mr shield
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M74TFP9/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
didnt like it at all.
if you notice the plastic one that the phone came with it does not cover the screen completely { about 1mm on each side }.
mr shield is exactly the same. makes the phone look bad. im returning this and waiting for someone to make the screen protector correctly

If you're talking about the screen protector from the factory, it's not glass, just a plastic. It's a finger print magnet for sure too. I ordered one of the newer styles that just came on Amazon. Will update with my thoughts when I comes in in a day or so.

Mine was gifted by Huawei in China and had tempered glass.
Does it leave big gaps around the edges or is it more of a full edge style?

More gaps at edges
Got this one in the mail today: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MU7Y0EG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_40KIyb6NMD2N9
I wanted to try a more edge to edge one and this one is really close. But you do get the raised edges as the curved glass starts. I will see how much it collects dust and probably remove it. It's my wife's phone so she probably won't like it.

Update:
The screenprotector just came in and is the correct one. Unfortunately the same problem persist with the 2.5d glass, the protector doesn't go edge to edge.
So, nillkin.org seems to be legit (enough) to order from. The screen protector box just used a variation on the name 'honor 6x', namely 'Huawei Mate 9 Lite GR5 2017', which is apparently the same phone .
Do not buy
DO NOT BUY.
just got this one from amazon today
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MR65JJD/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
it broke during installation, the slightest movement destroys it. the material is not really good at all.
i have a TUDIA Slim-Fit HEAVY DUTY case and the protector and there is a small gap between the case and the screen protector.
if the installation would have been successful, doubt it would last more than a day .
gotta keep looking
another do not buy...
the toshion screen protector.

does not even cover the screen , box reads 6x but i dont think its for a 6x or they really messed up their measurements

May I know which tempered glass screen protector I should order ?

May I know which tempered glass screen protector I should order from eBay or Amazon.ca which will attract less finger print?
There are not any really good ones because of the curved screen. You either are going to have it peel a bit on the edges or the screen protector will be cut well short of the sides.
I went with this film one and although I wanted glass I am happy with it
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M700TQ2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
there all terrible tried 5 now not one any good, the film ones are no good for me as there offer no protection from impact..
I'm happy with this.

This is the one I am using after trying several different tempered glass. It's not edge to edge but since it so thin you can barely see the gap. The best part is no halo effect and it's super responsive.

I'm on my second Brotect. Didn't like them the first time around but they have grown on me. I don't think they'd offer as much impact protection as a thicker tg, but they also fit and look better on a 2.5d screen.

Amazon Mr Shield For Huawei Mate 9
I have the newest Nillkin and it is a bit oversized, which leaves a halo around the edges. Not bad when the screen is on, but very noticeable when the screen is dark. That being said, it did save my bacon this morning. I dropped my phone from about 4 foot up(bobbled the catch) straight onto concrete... it landed on a corner and fell flat on the face. The screen protector did it's job and saved the display. The protector now has a very nice diagonal crack running the entire width, but it still works. Unfortunately, it means I need to buy a new one as Nillkin only provides one in the package. So it is off to Amazon to order my old standby, the SuperShieldz

I installed a Cafele glass screen protector the first day i got my Mate 9 and didn't had to replace it in a year.
It's a bit oversized, so it covers the edges, and comes with a liquid that fills the ait bubbles.
You don't really see them anymore.
None of the tempered glass I bought fits to the mate 9. So I took " hydrogel" screen protector on aliexpress and it fits perfect !

Using stock protector but I am finding sometimes the screen doesn't register a press if it's right on the edge. Debating taking it off but it is fitted so perfectly I doubt any other one I fit will be as good
I'm also using the stock protector. I'm thinking of taking it off and go with no screen protector. Has anybody tried this phone with no screen protector to see if there is any improvements on the edges?
I don't use a screen protector. When I got the 8, it was several months before I realized it had one. I just left it on, until
it got scratched/peeling. Same with the 9. I just leave it until it shows wear, or starts to peel, then off it comes and
then I just don't bother with one. I'm pretty careful with the screen, it stays in a protected belt clip/case, never in my
pocket.
Using a glass pzoz screen protector for about 6 months now, they're better than stock imo. The stock one just doesn't do the screen justice. The problem with glass tho is that once the oily substance you put on the sides dissolves slowly you will get some kind of an edge peeling kind of look. Doesn't bother me a bit really, I have 2 more laying around at home and they're only 3 bucks a piece. I also enjoy the glass feeling better.
I had to take off the stock one after 3 months because I had so many scratches on it. I bought a bunch of glass protectors from ebay. They all leave a bit of the screen edge showing but with my case on, its barely noticeable.
I don't consider it being a screen protector. Just a soft foil to protect it when in the box during transport. Like the plastic foil on the charger. First thing I did after unboxing was ripping the plastics of. In my opinion, the Gorilla glass doesn't need an extra screen protector.

Pixel 2 screen scratched easily?

I have been using this phone for about 10 days, in a TPU case from day 1. Today, I noticed 3 or 4 small scratches on the screen. It's been treated really well as any $700 phone will be.
I looked at my 2 year old Nexus 5X that I've been using as a daily driver with any screen protector, the screen on that phone is still flawless.
Has anybody else noticed that too? I only saw these scratches by accident, when the screen was completely off and I was looking at it at an angle.
I think it scratches easier than any prior phone I've had. I've got two scratches on mine already, I believe they came from those brass buttons near my pockets on my jeans....
The screen on my 4-year-old Note 3 is flawless, never used a screen protector. My Pixel 2 already has several tiny scratches. They're only visible when the screen is off/black and there's substantial light, but it's an absurdly fragile screen.
Edit: Corning's official response here is BS, but here is the problem: https://www.phonearena.com/news/Cor...e-7s-Gorilla-Glass-5-scratches-easily_id84326
Gorilla Glass 5 gives up scratch resistance in exchange for shatter resistance. I'd rather have GG3.
I'm not sure if it's true, but I read somewhere that Google made a trade off between scratch proofing and shatter proofing for the Pixel 2 screen.
I pre-ordered my p2 and have been using it without any screen protector for almost 2 months. Best screen I ever used and no scratches. I will be installing tempered glass soon to be on the safe side.
Is GG5 more scratable than GG3?
I had GG3 on the Nexus 5 and never had an issue. This is the first phone when I've stopped using screen protection.
Sent from my Pixel 2
Mine has no screen protector, so far no scratches. One thing that I've noticed is that the screen doesn't smear with fingerprints nearly as bad as my Pixel.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVKnt7H4zVc
In this durability test the pixel 2 scratches at Mohs hardness level 6 which is standard for all flagships these days.

Lol, not quite. I got it near the end of October. My calculations were a bit off. But it feels like 2 months ?
I don't have any scratches yet but I have been using mine since oct 19th and the spot where my thumb usually slides when scrolling is starting to get more "Oilly" than any other part of the screen. The area is also harder to clean. Look like in under 2 months the oleophobic has started to wear a bit...
This is not really great news but it does still look crystal clear when wiped clean. I was gonna get a tempered glass protector like I always do but been lazy. Looks like with this phone it will be a must.
Lucky the phone does have a 2-year warranty and will keep it for that long since my wife is still on her OG Pixel and I will sell that and give her this phone next year.

Amazing Glass Screen Protector

So after seeing bad reviews of countless glass screen protectors, I have finally stumbled upon one that is actually fantastic and covers the entire display.
https://www.amazon.ca/ESR-Protector...2+tempered&dpPl=1&dpID=51kmkyd-p6L&ref=plSrch
I purchased this thing about a week ago and have so far been extremely satisfied. For starters it comes with a alignment tool that makes putting it on a breeze.
One benefit of this screen protector is that it is truly edge to edge, leaving about 0.75mm of space on each edge of the glass while simultaneously not cutting out any part of the display. The other benefit is that it has adhesive throughout the entire glass including the edges so no issues with the rainbow halo effect. The oleophobic coating on it is also superb. It feels EXACTLY like the original display, most glass screen protectors skimp out on this which leads them to feel a bit sticky but this one glides like the original display under it.
I installed it in under 3 minutes perfectly and there are absolutely no bubbles and the singular camera cutout is perfectly made in the correct spot. Hands down the best glass screen protector I've had for any smarthphone.
Thanks for the tip. I've ordered one on AliExpress from the same brand, costs only 5 usd
Using one for one month, just perfect and easy to apply. Very good quality and i have tried many screen protectors for mix 2 but none was as good as this one.

Hey.
I use my phone since early 2018 now.
After a few different screen protectors i gave up and use it without protector.
The phone is like a new one. I think the glass is very good and no protector is needed.
The display is very smooth to tap without one scratch on it.
Use it with full cover/case with magnetic closer.
I managed to get some hair-like fine scratches. I think your full cover helps a lot
I just shattered my ESR protector, you will never guess how. While pulling the phone out of my pocket, I somehow hooked the corner of my glass, right where the front camera is located ( here: https://imgur.com/F5Crawg ) with some loose thread in my pocket They should just make a round cutout :\
Just put mine on this morning, fits really well but 3 areas have a speck of dust under them, I put it on after getting out of the shower as the mist in the air normally keeps the dust away but not this time.
Got the esr case as well which is ok for the price.
Got them from the ESR store on AliExpress.

There is a white frame and black frame available. Which one did you choose? . . . and is there a case that would be most compatible with this rounded edge protector?
ESR
Well, ESR glasss has the best oleofobic coating and clearness. No rainbow efect too, it has gule on the whole surface. Just that nowel plastic frame needs some practice to get use to it. There are no gaps between it and the glass on all sides , when install. The glue is really strong. I am siprised that somebody managed to stisck something between glass and screen.
My ESR protector died after a couple months of use. First some scratches appeared (the protector is softer than the screen) and on one of those scratches (a deeper one on the edge) the protector cracked. Removal was not that easy as the force required to pull it of will result in a shattered protector everywhere so expect lots of glass dust. I've ordered a new one together with a ESR case (that fits lovely too). These things are so cheap anyway that I don't mind going through a couple of them each year.
Just got the ESR case and screen protector. Thanks for the recommendation, this screen protector feels and looks like there is no protector at all, no more smudges over the original screen. The perfect application from the bracket and adhesive across the entire protector makes it the best one I've used, after giving up on covering my mix 2 after 3-4 different protectors giving neuton rings and immediately thrown out. I have probably dropped my mix 2 on the pavement 7 or 8 times in the last year getting out of my car, and only got a tiny crack on the bottom bezel corner of the screen. Since the bottom bezel on the ESR protector is black my phone looks undamaged now.
The ESR case is nearly as good as the one in the box. I do notice it's slightly thicker than the case in the box, and the added bottom protection makes the phone slightly longer, but it's overall an exceptional fit.
I got mine from taobao directly.
