just some obsevations ive come across with the fingerprint scanner:
1. its VERY sensitive!! keep fingers CLEAN...keep scanner clean. removing the plastic protective film helps tremendously!
2. LAUNCHERS- CAN/WILL affect the operation of the scanner!! Nova Launcer at default had NO effect on the scanner...HOWEVER...when i added and enabled TESLA UNREAD to the mix, the scanner WOULD NOT WORK!!
ANYTHING that allows (it seems) a VISUAL alteration to the homescreen/lockscreen (ie-notifications that are viewed on the home screen)...the fingerprint scanner WILL NOT WORK properly!
3. i use NEUTRON PLAYER as my ONLY music player. all is fine...until player/phone goes to sleep. upon waking...the FINGERPRINT SCANNER will not work!! when using default settings, Neutron will display the '"PLAYER UI" and/or the ALBUM ART of the song that is playing when waking the phone. disabling these features (in the settings) allows FULL operation of the scanner!
4. FACEBOOK MESSENGER- having CHAT HEADS "ACTIVE" will not allow the scanner to work properly..or in my case...NOT AT ALL!!!
5. in short..be wary of the 3rd party apps you use everyday. i use ALL of the above, and MORE, and the fingerprint scanner works flawlessy. just be sure to disable ANY feature that affects the waking /lockscreen/ or homepage. in short..if it VISIBALLY alters the above screens in any way, while asleep OR awake, the fingerprint scanner acts all ignorant.
one mistake...i have NOT been able to use the "TESLA UNREAD" app/addon in ANY way with absoulute success. nor have i been able to activate CHAT HEADS. these seem to "break" the functinality of the fingerprint scanner.
as always....feedback/ support is more than welcome.
hope it hepls...this IS an AWESOME phone!!

youll have to have the lockscreen....as there HAS to be a SECONDARY method (in case scanner doesnt work). during setup, you HAVE to set alternate method of unlocking phone FIRST!! i use the PIN....you can draw a pattern, knock code..all work fine. after that....you get to set the finger print scanner. use ONLY one finger, and watch the screen. be sure to place AND HOLD LIGHTLY the scanner in MANY different positions. mine really ONLY FAILS now if it gets dirty....simply wipe the scanner....good to go!!

Prologue: This was something I saw first on Notebooks/Laptops! Face lock and Voice lock, not only its too trendy but also too secure to rely on. Well Android's new version are been loaded with this along with PIN lock, Password lock and even Pattern lock which were in previous versions too. I've tried many apps on store, but the stock is the best of all I've tried.
Uses of Face Lock and Voice Lock
→ You can set your face as your Password - Yup you'll get some privacy
→ More secured (when compared with Pattern, PIN, Password Lock)
→ Helps you Show off your phone
How precise is Face and Voice Lock
Face detection is better than those in Notebooks, that's what I felt after trying. Though you need to have a front camera which is not so great comparatively, the face detection is cool and accurate. One thing I would regret is face lock is not much at low light environment. But you don't have to worry coz you can also unlock by PIN if your face is not detected
Availability
Though the Apps on Store support phones from 2.3 to till date version, stock version can be seen in 4.2 Jellybean and onwards. So if you are using anything less than this, you may have to wait for update. ICS users can enjoy this feature - thanks to developers. All you have to do is flash a zip to install this feature.

How to setup??
→ Navigate to Settings>Security>Screen Lock
→ Select Screen Lock> Then Voice Lock or Face lock
→ Firstly you'll have to setup a PIN do it!
→ Now you can easily setup Face Lock or Voice Lock - Just follow on screen instruction
My experience with Face & Voice Lock
Well setting up of Face Lock or Voice Lock was cool but using it every time to unlock was a pain . You'll have to show your face every time to camera and smile! So could stick on.. May be different in your opinion.. Try it!!

If I get hold of your phone when unlocked I can add my face to your device without pattern/pin
Big security flaw
Yet fun if they fix it
It's all cool and handy, as long as you don't mind your device is literally watching and listening to you and everyone around. Same applies for fingerprint reading which gives nsa...I mean google and oems pretty nice databases
Useless
What the well is this admin , fully MAD who share this post ?????
For the time being this looks like a gimmick and not much else. Generally impractical and as you mentioned quite tedious to do so. Nonetheless, biometrics is improving at a solid pace. Wonder how much more can we go in the next 5-10 years.
Hi, I hate having i screenlock, be it password, pattern or fingerprint - it's just to uncomfortable, especially being lefthanded and having a flipcover.
But, I'd still like to use fingerprint authentication in certain apps, like my bank's app. However it doesn't seem possible to activate the scanning functions and registering prints without having a screen lock active.
Does anyone know how to get around this (no root)?
I would also like to know as well. I am using Microsoft Next as my lock screen and I apparently am unable to only use the lock screen with the fingerprint scanner. I keep getting forced to have a pin or pattern which sucks.

You can pair your phone with a Bluetooth device, such as Bluetooth wristband, and enable Smart Unlock then you may bypass the PIN.

Sure, but then I'll have to walk around with some bluetooth thing. I don't want that, I just want to be able to use the fingerprint selectively, without it locking the phone.

Had never heard of Next, now I already love it - thanks!
I think that's not possible. Fingerprint adds a security layer, but if for some reason it's not supported by an app or if for any reason you cut your finger and your fingerprint it's not readable anymore, you must have a backup unlock method.
Was trying to verify the Easy Mute motion (hand over screen or flip to mute calls or alarms), and it does not seem to work in either folded or unfolded configuration. I also tried running AndroSensor and that shows no change in sensor when I cover the top half of either screen. Anyone else having similar problems, or is it working as expected for them.

I just tried it myself and turning over the phone definitely muted the incoming call (with the phone open or closed) Also the palm gesture worked (cover screen only) but that was slightly more difficult as you really have to cover the whole screen for a couple of seconds.
I also used AndroSensor (and another app) and noted the proximity sensor was present but wasn't showing a reading. Obviously it is working (and works when holding phone to ear by turning screen off for example).
So I am not sure why it's not working for you.

Thanks for checking.
Did some more testing, the flip gesture seems to be working for incoming calls with the Google Phone app, and alarms created by the Samsung Clock app, but not the Google Clock app or Calendar notifications. Using the Google Phone app once the call is established, then the screen does turn off when held close to a head when folded. So seems like the sensor is working, in some situations, which means it is probably software related, rather a hardware defect. I really don't want have to reconfigure my setup up again.
The Google Phone app also has a setting flip to mute, which was not set. So I flipped that to true.
I had previously written a Tasker profile to mute everything (enter Do Not Disturb) on a Pixel 3XL, before Google implemented it at the OS level, so I may try that here.
Certainly seems like a conflict with the Google phone app. The gesture settings are OneUI features so they are unlikely to work with a different dialer.

I think the problem is that the Samsung implementation is to hook into a small subset of their applications to do a local mute, where as Google implementation just invoked Do Not Disturb, which meant every application would mute, assuming they are compliant. I think DND was slightly flakey on OS9, but from OS10 onwards it was rock steady.
To bring clarity to my local behaviour, I enabled my Tasker method that engaged DND when the phone is flipped. Works in both folded and unfolded configurations. As a bonus with Join, I have a method that automatically distributes DND to my other devices.
Is it possible to make the fingerprint reader system on phones useable in personal projects? For example; Using a phone's fingerprint system to integrate it into an automatic door lock system that opens and closes with a fingerprint. The door lock is just one example.
I just want to turn the fingerprint into a trigger. What do I need to do so that Andruio or any software system can read the "true, false" results? Thanks.
Hello,
This is my first post probably after 6-7 years.
In my Pixel 7 Pro [which is a little over one month and one week old] I have found the onscreen FP scanner does not always work when the phone is in AOD mode. If I touch the FP scanner nothing happens; it feels as if it is an image LOL.
Searched internet a bit and found this phenomena is a common problem with phones that have onscreen FP scanner [perhaps more specifically with optical scanner? I dunno].
Checked the solutions and none worked until I found out that if my default finger [which happens to be my right thumb] does not activate the FP scanner it has always been my left thumb that works perfectly fine. It is as if the Scanner was waiting for my other finger to press LOL.
Both my thumbs are clean/have same state of cleanliness during operation.
I think this could be helpful to those who probably scratch their head wondering as to why the FP scanner does not work in AOD. If you have more than one finger assigned, just try the other one.
This also raises a question to me [which might be lame], is Google doing it intentionally requiring the other fingerprint sometimes?
Agreed. Fingerprint scanner is unreliable regardless of AOD. Adding multiple fingers can help, but the reader is just wonky (that's a technical term)
It's worthless. Such an aggravation I just use the login code.
Don't know what you people are doing, my fingerprints (both thumbs) work just fine, once in a blue moon it might miss the first time, however I have never had a failed fingerprint unlock from either AOD or lock screen.
I never have issues with my fingerprint scanner on all 4 fingers I added
