PHOTOS: The best cases available for the Mix. Added the Love Mei Powerful case! - Xiaomi Mi MIX Accessories

I've gone through all of the threads on screen protectors for the mix and I have observed that the majority aren't happy with the screen protectors they've got. I've ordered almost every type of tempered glass protector available for this device but I'm waiting for them to arrive.
For those who already have some screen protector installed on your mix, could you please upload photos of the device with the screen protector installed.
This is so that it can help other buyers to narrow down to the better screen protectors available. If you are satisfied with the screen protector you have bought, it would also help if you post a link to where you've bought it. I would have done this myself if I had received all the protectors I ordered. Unfortunately I haven't received anything yet.
Some reports suggest that Xiaomi may have used two different suppliers for the digitizer, one of them being prone to getting scratches easily. Even if this was not the case, I have seen many badly scratched Gorilla glass displays so I don't want to take the chance.
Hoping that people who already have some form of screen protection can help other buyers!
I have also bought all the decent cases available on ebay including the Love Mei Performance case and will post a review as soon as I receive them.
UPDATE: The Love Mei Powerful Case. This is the most rugged, shock-proof, snow-proof, dust-proof, splash-proof, everything under the sun-proof (except submersion in water) case available for the Mix.
As you can see from the photo comparison with another regular shock-proof case, this one is a beast. It lives up to its name. Came in a phone-box style premium box and certainly lives up to its price-tag. The case is made up of a hard aluminium shell with rubber layers for shock absorption. It also has a built-in tempered glass protector, meaning you wont need another screen protector.
The manufacturer also claims that the case offers drop-protection from up to 1.8m (5.9 feet).
I wouldn't recommend this case for daily use, mainly due to the sheer size of the case and not because it completely changes the look of the Mix. But for those of you who require extreme protection, if you have a baby at home who thinks the Mix is a Frisbee or if your dog likes playing "catch" and you only have your phone in hand, this is your answer. Buy this case!!
As you can see, I'm not using this case and may use this only if I'm going on a holiday or any outdoor activity which demands more protection for the phone. Hence, I don't regret buying it.

And now, my favourite case among all the cases I have for the Mix. The 360 Shock proof Rubber case. (This case is sold under many names, the most common being 360 Shockproof. Just follow product images. Anyway there isn't any branding printed on the actual case.)
This looks like something which came straight from the phone manufacturer. Slim and feels premium. Doesn't look or feel cheap and I believe the rubber material offers decent protection from bumps. I don't know whether it can withstand drops though.
The case doesn't feel cheap like the Red Plastic rubber shock proof case I've posted earlier (See 2nd post). It also has a smaller lip above the screen compared to the Plastic case but has raised corners. Maybe the plastic case offers more protection due to the better lip surrounding the screen and also because it is rubber+plastic combo, meaning there are two materials to absorb shock compared to just rubber with this one. But the reason why this is my favourite case is because it offers a balance between looks and protection.
Hope this post has helped you decide which case to get for the Mix. All cases showcased here are available on ebay & Amazon.
Cheers!

I've received the full coverage screen protector and a case today and as promised I'm uploading photos here so that it may help you decide.
I haven't experienced any issues with touch functionality using this protector like some like some users have mentioned. But as the glass hovers over the screen due to the adhesive only around the frame, applying this screen protector makes it look as if the display has a lower contrast ratio. This is due to the gap between the actual display glass and the tempered glass protector. You lose the experience of a fully laminated display. This isn't very noticeable in a well lit room but noticeable whenever you view images or videos with dark scenes. The blacks look greyish.
Also this is a fingerprint magnet and the glass tends to attract some dust. I've tried re-applying the protector over three times and a speck of dust manages to get in under the glass every time. This isn't the first time I'm applying screen protectors and its definitely something to do with the coating on the glass which attracts dust, maybe due to static.
The case feels slightly cheap (maybe because it was cheap ) but looks like it can protect the phone well. The only gripe I have is that there is no cushioning on the back, like cases from Spigen. The rubber like material you see is more like a bumper attached to a plastic shell. The back of the phone touches the plastic shell as you see in the images. Comparable to those hard plastic cases you get. Don't know whether that helps in terms of protection but the case has a good lip around the screen as you can see.
For those wondering, I bought the red color because the other colors for this case looked too bland. The case is available in Gold, light blue, Grey and silver. I wish there was black but there isn't.
I have more cases coming in and will update this when I receive it. Till then I hope those willing to help can also upload photos of their cases and screen protectors.
Cheers!

Here's a couple pix of the PELOSI TPU/Sandstone finish case:
https://www.casefanatic.com/xiaomi/case-xiaomi-mi-mix-pelosi-quicksand-pattern-slim-matte-tpu-cover/
The cutouts for the mics/3.5mm jack/speaker grill/USB Port are precise & allow enough room for oversized headphone/USB plugs.
The volume rocker & power button are covered & are easy to identify by feel.
As for protection,it'll keep the backside free of scratches/etc,but,as for protection from drops/etc... YMMV,as this is a low profile case, adding minimal width & thickness to the overall dimensions.
It works for me,the main reason I even bother with a case for this phone is the slippery grip.

Found some new bumper case.

Interesting bumper, but would this protect the device? I'd imagine it would just ripple the impact into the ceramic and it would probably still shatter, unless there's a good amount of padding on the inside of the frame.

I prefer the minimal amount of case / bumper on a phone. If it wasn't as slippery ide go naked, but the TPU gives you more hand confidence. Though that amorkingcase looks pretty sweet, if it was not as "sharp and shaped" looking

It doesn't affect pocketability that much actually. It just feels like a big phone. The overall size would be similar or slightly wider than the Xperia Z Ultra. But it would still look weird with formal\office wear though if that matters.
The main issue is with daily use. You wouldn't be able to use the phone with one hand anymore.
This case is best for someone who needs serious drop\splash resistance.
There is a similar case which is smaller. Its the imatch case which looks cool in my opinion but the case is hard to find on ebay. You can get it on aliexpress or amazon though.
I liked the Gold and Black variant of this case but I doubt whether it would cause issues when using a wireless charger. Hence, I haven't bought this yet.
iMatch Metal Silicone Shockproof case
If offers a similar level of protection as the Love Mei case but it is smaller. It even has a metal kickstand.

I have to agree that the 360 Shock proof Rubber case listed by the OP is the best case so far. It feels nice and offers a decent drop protection without too much bulk. It looks like it was meant to come with the phone. The matte color looks stealthy. The protection covers all angle of the phone and even a 1 mm lip to protect screen. I have dropped it 3-4 feet onto hardwood floor and sustained no damage. The extra bumps at the corner really provides a nice cushion. I highly recommend it.

Yoobao TPU+PC Case Review

Hi guys, I just wanted to give my review on the case that I've finally settled on! It took me forever to finally decide on a case, but I finally made my choice and I couldn't be happier. I originally had the Silicone case from the T-Mobile store, but that case just wasn't to my liking.
Up first is the link: http://www.ebay.com/itm/YOOBAO-TPU-case-Skin-Cover-HTC-Sensation-4G-Z710e-/220837531137?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item336af14e01
Nice price for a high quality case for sure. Item took me 9 days to get from the time I ordered it, which isn't at all bad considering it ships from Hong Kong and I'm in California.
The breakdown: this is a lightweight case (AKA not a competitor to the Case Mate Tough and similar heavy-duty cases) that is made out of 2 materials. It is both TPU and Polycarbonate (plastic). The parts that are plastic are where the 2 wedge-shaped pieces on the back of the phone are (above and below the swoosh).
My review: my primary reason for getting a new case was because the T-Mobile gel case was too loose. It felt like a pair of baggy pants on a skinny kid (Take it from a skinny person that that feeling is really uncomfortable). First up is the packaging:

Nice packaging, comes with a screen protector and cloth inside (I haven't put the screen protector on yet so I'll report on that later). The most noticeable things about the packaging are the comical errors in grammar and spelling, but I couldn't care less about that when I like the product .
I read good things about TPU cases being much tighter than Silicone, and the Yoobao case is certainly a good example of that. Out of the box, it is much more resistant to flexing and takes a bit of an effort to actually put the phone into. BIG plus for me. It's very form fitting and tight on the phone. It's also a thin case, which was instantly noticeable because in the hand it feels more like a naked Sensation than the T-Mob case did. That's not to say it provides no protection, because the combination of TPU and PC makes it feel quite strong for a thin case. Also, let's be honest that most people looking for thin TPU cases aren't looking for the most hardcore in protection. I'm sure the Yoobao will do fine in minor drop situations.
The cutouts on this case are close to perfection.
The headphones jack is fine for the headphones I use. It's about the same size that the cutout on the T-Mob case is.
The cutouts on the top half. As you can see, Yoobao included cutouts for every place where they are needed. 2 things I really like here: the first, that the cutouts are perfectly placed (the mic holes are perfectly centered in each cutout, which is rare), the second, that there is a separate cutout for the camera and the flash. Most cases have one big hole for both the camera and the flash, and the fact that this has individual cutouts exudes quality.
Cutouts at the bottom. This is a pretty bad picture because the mic holes are better centered than the pic makes it look like. Again, nice that they have individual cutouts.
Terrible picture, I know, but I just wanted to show that even the bottom mic hole has a cutout (which like the others is perfectly aligned).
This is the ONLY thing I don't like about the case. While (looking at the cutout from this orientation) the left and right sides of the cutout provide plenty of space, the top part is just barely too thick.
As you can see from the bump, it's just a little too tight for the charger. It's still easy to get the charger in, it's just that it pushes the TPU up right there.
It's a very minor issue, and I'm sure you could easily take a knife to it to make it fit better. This is legitimately the only thing I would change about this case.
The looks:
The looks of this case were probably the main reason I chose it over others. I personally wanted a light case that preserves the looks of the naked Sensation as much as possible, and I don't think you can do any better than this case. I obviously went with the black model, but there is also a white model. The TPU is translucent, and in decent light the case is a dark smoked color (it's really only in low light that it looks completely black). Really sexy color, and it's awesome that you can see the htc logo on the back. The other main case I looked at was the Qubits one that is very popular, but I liked how the Yoobao allows you to see the actual swoosh and htc on the back, rather than an opaque black swoosh that merely imitates the phone. The plastic pieces are so well done that they look just like the phone underneath.
I thought that this picture demonstrated how smooth the transition is from PC to TPU. It's really only a transition that you can feel; you can't see it because it's so smooth.
Other things to note:
The TPU comes up over the lip around the phone like most cases do. It's thin, so when you place the phone face down the screen is just barely off the surface. I didn't include this as a negative thing because I don't have any personal experiences with other cases other than the T-Mob one (which definitely does provide a bigger lip), and I've also heard that TPU cases don't give as much a lip as Silicone cases do.
The power button is harder to press down, but I also didn't include this as a negative because I've heard the same about many TPU cases. The volume rocker also takes a little bit more effort. Both of them are covered by clear TPU that isn't smoked, so it's kinda cool that they are showing off the metal pieces on the phone.
It's not as grippy as a pure silicone case because it can slide around a bit on the plastic parts. I personally think it's grippy enough and enjoy how easy it is to slide in my pants.
Summary: this case is about as good as a lightweight case can get. If you aren't looking for hardcore protection, I absolutely recommend the Yoobao case. It looks great, feels great, adds minimal bulk, fits tightly, and has near-perfect cutouts. IMO no other case out there does a better job of preserving the Sensation's design, and no other case can match how well done the cutouts other than the USB cutout are. I might buy another one just to have an extra because I like it so much. If you have any questions, feel free to let me know.
It's just like any other tpu "twill design" cases. It's just branded that's all.

Ahh just noticed the difference. The matte covers the top and the bottom where the Yoobao doesn't.
Does the screen protector cover the whole front glass? or just he visible screen?
Sorry to hijack your thread but I do have a white one for sale for weeks but one person asked about it and never followed through. The one I have was never used. I just put it on for testing purposes, but ended up not using it. The fs thread is in the marketplace here or you can PM me for details. I don't want to detract the thread by posting pics and such .

Great detailed review my friend!
can't link yet, but go to amazon.com and type in "HTC SENSATION 4G / SENSATION XE GEL SKIN CASE"
is this suppose to be the same case??
I just got these case myself last week. I love the fact that it fits inside my OEM HTC Leather case. I had to apply little shoe stretch on the sides. But the phone fits perfectly. I was considering the expensive Seidio case and holster...but the Yoobao TPU & Screensaver and the OEM leather case were a great deal at about $20 shipped total on ebay.

Not sure what you're talking about. The Yoobao case covers the top and bottom just like any other case (it wraps around the front at all sides, providing a lip around the whole phone just like most other cases). And I haven't tried the screen protector yet.
Great Review!
I actually was considering this case, but the Yoobao was a big turn off for me. Has anyone found a way to cover up/scratch it off?
I am sure Goof off would take it off.

I must add something, the screen protector that comes with this Yoobao cover fits the screen a 100% and with a little heat and dust free environment applies perfectly.
I just receive mine today and quickly put the OtterBox Commuter in my drawer.
I must thanks the OP, this is an awesome purchase.

I know I said I was going to do an update when I installed the screen protector; obviously I put that off for a long time. Anyways I did install it and it's exactly like you describe. Applied incredibly easily, no bubbles, fits perfectly, and it even has a little bit of a cutout for the light sensor. Awesome screen protector to complement an equally awesome case.
Just wanted to give this a little bump to update and for others to see this review who haven't yet.
I bought this case; did anyone try removing the yoobao logo with goo-off? if not, i'll guess i'll be the 1st one to try since i bought a clear(white) case and have a white beats back case to go with it....

I've had past success with goo gone. The goo off is the more paint thinner smelling than the goo gone right? I recently took off the Aprolink logo from my hybrid case.
The goo gone is the one that smells like citrus. I use that stuff to take off adhesives from car finishes as well.

Review of 3 cases

I've now tried 3 cases purchased from Amazon, all good in their own way.
Terrapin TPU gel case £5.25. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014H39MWM?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00
(I got the smoke black, which doesn't seem to be there anymore).
Good fit, cutouts work although if I was being picky I'd say they maybe are a tiny bit off center. The volume and camera keys are covered with buttons on the case that work but could be easier to use. The power button feels a bit deep in the shell, due to the 2mm or so thickness of gel. Seems to offer very good protection, best of the 3. Case comes slightly above the screen, so protecting it if you lay it face down. Adds moderate bulk to the phone.
Roxfit Titanium shell £10.09. http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B015EFMB3O?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
Bit misnamed, it's plastic with what looks like a metal insert in the back. Very good fit (in fact difficult to get the phone back out). It exposes a lot more more of the sides of the phone (all of the top, bottom, and the buttons area on the right) than the Terrapin, but still gives very good protection and makes use of the buttons easier. Corners are well protected and the case comes up over the screen, protecting it if you lay it face down. It feels pretty sturdy overall. It looks premium from the back with the gold insert, although the plastic around it maybe less so. Thinner round the sides than the Terrapin but bulkier at the back.
Easydigital hard back £2! http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B014UYKXD0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00
The cheapest of the 3, and although you can tell it's actually pretty good. Very light and thin, adds the least bulk to the phone. It's the hard plastic type of case as opposed to the gel Terrapin. It's completely clear and because it's so thin, it actually looks better on the phone than the others (in my opinion) as the phone basically looks as it normally does. The top and bottom are exposed as on the Roxfit, there are cutouts for the buttons on the right, as the case is so thin this doesn't affect their use. One point to note - if you use the cord attachment hole on the left of the phone, you can't use this case as it doesn't have a cutout for it. It offers the least protection, the corners are just covered and it only just comes above the screen. At the moment I have a plastic protector, but when the tempered glass one turns up this will probably be proud of the case. The fit is about 99% - the phone moves a tiny fraction within the case, which I'm sure could be solved with a tiny sliver of rubber in there - although to be honest I'm being very picky and it's not really a problem to live with it.
Note - none of the cases have a cutout for the sim/micro sd cover, not an issue for me.
I'm currently using the easydigital, I'll see how it works when the glass screen cover turns up.
Great info!
Could you put a picture of the phone with the last case?
I was deciding between "Orzly FlexiSlim Smoked Black" and "Orzly Bumper Case Clear" (My Z5C will be Black).
Now found my favourite - Orzly FlexSlim Case. £6.99.
It gives pretty reasonable protection but adds minimal bulk. It's a gel type case, cutouts are spot on and don't get in the way of any of the buttons. It won't give as much protection as the Roxfot or terrapin above, but enough for me. I got the white, which looks good on the black phone. I've now got a tempered glass screen protector, this case is probably a fraction of a mm above it so still protects it face down.
I can't see changing away from this now, it's better than any case I found for the Z3C (had the Devilcase, which gave good protection but was a bit bulky and very expensive).
I buy and use this

Definitely improved. It's not as rubbery/sticky as some, it's a sort of matt plastic/rubber finish, but no issues with grip.

Haha well that depends on what're you looking for.
I bought this case to protect the phone from scratches during the 30 days for Amazon returns.
The case is really slim so it won't protect the phone against drops. But it adds some distance to the screen edge (more thickness to the phone) so it could separate your screen from the floor in a potential drop.
I like more the other Orzly solution. The crystal clear bumper. But it's a bit bigger than the flexislim

Thanks man!
Yeah I know that it won't protect against drops because of how slim it is.
That is actually why I'm interested in this case, cause I don't want any bulk. I'm just looking for better grip I guess to prevent drops.
Mmm the grip isn't great.
The typical (and tick) generic 100% TPU cases have a much better grip. This TPU case it's like smooth.
Sent from my E5823
How is the grip in the Terrapin tpu case?
I'm looking at the crystal clear terrapin tpu.
The volume buttons are covered right? (I don't like that).
S-Line
I am also looking for the ideal case with 2 main criteria: slim and grippy.
I usually go for genuine S-Line cases by Cimo USA but unfortunately they don't make cases for Sony devices.
I got a copy on Amazon. I can't post the link, not enough posts.
If you really want to see the exact one, search "Sony Xperia Z5 Compact - S-Style noir - Cover PhoneNatic" on Amazon.fr or .de.
I've seen several similar designs, but slightly different: different camera hole shape, fully mat back...
I will try to shrink it with the boiling water method.
If you know a good slim and grippy case, please share .
I've gotten a handful of cases coming in the mail, mind if I add them in here once I receive them?

Hi ewans,
Sorry to resurrect an old thread - but I have just ordered my Z5C. I was going to get the terrapin or Casemate Barely There - but would like to hear your view on why the Orzly is better than terrapin.
Thanks!
i got this, and it's great

Spigen [Thin Fit] [Black] Premium Matte Finish Hard Case [Amazon]

This is my short take on this new case I just received today. I like it because it is thin. The cut outs are clean and centered. The back has a soft touch plastic feel so it helps with grip. Finger prints do show on the case (some people with dry hands will not have an issue. My hands are normally moist.) but can be easily wiped away.
Normally the hybrid cases with PC (polycarbonate) on the back and TPU on the sides that cover the buttons give them a mushy feeling when pressed. It is hard to tell if you pushed the button all the way down or not. So with the cut outs for the power and volume button, this problem is eliminated. The plastic which separates the two buttons help me to identify each button quickly. I also found the buttons were unintentionally pressed a lot when I didn't have the case. I don't have this issue anymore. I would recommend this case for anyone who wants protection against scratches. It won't protect the phone against high drops. There is no cushion or air pockets to protect the phone. But this is exactly what these thin cases are for, scratch protection and protection against small bumps. I bought it at Amazon. I ordered it around noon Pacific Time and it was shipped after two hours. I was pleased with the speedy handling.

Update...this sounds silly but the case seems to make the phone feel heavier to me. But the added weight feels good in the hand. The case by itself is not heavy. Not sure why I feel this way...
Update # 2: 24 hours later, I am still loving this case. The finger print scanner cut out is the perfect size. I have not had any issues unlocking my phone. I actually wanted a clear case but this black color is starting to grow on me. With the camera visor being glossy black and the case being flat black, it adds a stealth look along with providing some contrast.
Update # 3: The case's matte finish does not create too much friction when inserting the phone into your jean packet or pulling it out. This is a plus.

Seems many buyers on Amazon would disagree with you. Three main things I don't like about the Ringke:
1) I don't really like the feel of the case
2) Its a fingerprint magnet, unlike anything I've ever experienced.
3) The front edges are kind of sharp which can make it a little uncomfortable to hold against my ear while on the phone.
If only Otterbox made the Symmetry series for the Nexus 6p and all my future phones, I'd never have to shop around for cases again.
This case is pretty excellent - feels grippy & solid

Lol I was going to say that many buyers on Amazon would disagree with you about Ringke, but I guess you know that buyers go with the flow most of the time. All of what you said is true for the Rugged Armor, which are the reasons why I don't like it. And also it is sand magnet too. That's my real life feedback. I am sure the Amazon buyers will disagree

Ultimately I can just return it if I dont like it. The inconvenience of owning an unpopular phone and being unable to try a product hands on before purchase, but at least Amazon has a solid return policy.

I love it, except that the upper and lower machined extreme edges aren't protected from certain angles.

I am not a fan of cases either and will probably remove it once the phone isn't new to me anymore (in 3 months?) But I can't wait for the super thin one that the others are chatting about from Huawei. I want to ensure my phone doesn't scratch considering the metal body. Good luck.

OP, a question to you: do you think the case will accomodate one of those thin metal plates attached to the back plate on the inside, to use with a magnetic car mount? Like this:
The plate should be very slim, only about 0,5-1mm in thickness. Do you think this will work? Any way you could test this out for me even, by sticking something of approx. that thickness in between the back and case?
Thanks in advance!

I have that same car mount. It works for me with no issues. I'm sure it will work out for you as well.
BTW...I do not notice the plate after the case is put on. The back is flat. The pictures taken have the plate inserted.

I'm really enjoying this case as well. I agree with all the OP'sthoughts especially about fixing the sensitive button presses. Overall very happy with the thiness, fit and soft touch. Very thin but covers most of the visor and has a textured soft touch finish. I did end up using the spigen but may switch. The other case doesn't have an issue with fingerprints.

Without using any tool for measurement they seem to be identical in thinness. Only notable differences between the two would be the visor cover, soft touch finish, and the spigen has a piece that separates the volume and power buttons. Either of these things can be taken as a plus or minus depending on personally preference. If you're deciding between the two the Monoy case shipped and arrived faster.

There is a tiny lip so the glass does not contact the surface if placed glass side down. I think you need a screen protector if you're worried.

Note 4 cases showdown! (many photos)

A review of Note 4 cases may look a little outdated, but a device like that is and I believe will stay in the first line (well, maybe the second) for a little longer.
I just received my last case and I decided to put them all together. I usually take one case of each type to meet any scenario. Right now I own nearly all types, except a leather “dress” one and and maybe a "heavy duty".
Rock DRV case (~€16)
This one came bundled with my phone and at first I did not like it. But after a few days and until now, it became my first choice because it combines protection, style, quality with some nice features.
Its rubber is of great quality, after a year of intense use there are no marks or scratches on it. The inner side that attaches to the back of the device has a soft layer that protects the phone. All the openings are perfectly alligned and it’s very easy to put in and pull out the phone because, as you can see there is no rim in a big proportion of the lip of the case. All buttons are left uncovered and therefore easily accessible.
Its trademark is, of course its screen cover. It’s made of rubber too, but it’s semitransparent, so it’s easy to take a glance to the screen, without opening the cover. Great idea, greatly implemented.
The photo does not do justice to the functionality of the feature, it's much easier to see the screen with the cover on in a room with normal lighting.
DRV is a thick case and that shows on the camera protection bump, which is more than enough. That means that it will probably offer good protection in case of a strong impact. Luckily I have yet to drop the phone. All in all, it’s a great case that has it all. It can be a little bulky sometimes, but if somebody is used to those cases, this one is one of the best all-around with very high value for money ratio.
Nillkin frosted shield (~€6)
I’ve been buying one of those for every phone I’ve owned in the last 3 years. I also buy them for the phones of my close ones. Nillkin has made a name for themselves and they deserve it, as they offer great products at very affordable prices.
Its material is hard plastic and it’s a pain to put in/take out without hurting the phone. It does not seem to offer a great protection against strong impacts. Some people have reported that it’s very easily breakable in its corner. All those may be true, but this case has a unique feature that makes it a must have for me, its textured back. It has a very nice feel that keeps me wanting rubbing and playing with it.
Moreover, it’s thick enough to provide a fair amount of protection for the camera lens. All buttons are uncovered.
It’s cheap and of good quality. Go buy one, just to feel its texture. The only material that is more pleasant for me to touch is Oneplus One’s sandstone back, period.
Spigen Hybrid Ultra clear (~€17)
A well known company and a well known case. Its rubber is of great quality, quite thick and it gets even thicker in the corners, which is reassuring in case of a fall.
All cutouts are perfectly placed and it gives a feel of quality. Of course its thickness makes the phone bulkier, but on the other side it offers a very good grip.
It offers the best camera lens protection among all my cases. Not only because it’ thick, but because each corner is raised an additional 5mm, resulting in great sitting on a flat, even on a little bumpy, surface. The buttons are all covered and, surprisingly, they have a nice feel when pressed, despite the thick material.
No more to say, except a complaint. After a year of moderate use, it has lost its clearness and it has become a little yellowish. Strange for a product of such a high profile.
It’s not the best looking case and it does not offer too much, but it’s the only one I feel comfortable to throw from a small height with the phone in it. It’s probably the best compromise between bulk and real protection.
IMAK transparent case (~€6)
I bought one of these for my wife’s Lumia 925 about a year ago and I liked it, so recently I bought one for myself. It’s a simple back cover, but there are two features that earned my attention; First, the plastic is absolutely clear and it stays like that more for more than a year later. Second, its plastic is not very hard and it’s very easy to put on/take out, but not too flimsy either. It’s so thin, that the camera lens stays virtually unprotected.
Unfortunately, the material is a little slippery. I do not consider it that much of a protection, and it gets scratched very easily, but it does have its place among my cases. It’s perfect for a day in the office, where the possibility of a scratch is a little smaller. It can prevent all those little, small scratches that happen each day without even noticing and it keeps the contour and the looks of the device almost untouched.
Yes, the case is on!
Nillkin Nature case (~€6)
My last purchase. Nillkin has grown to a company I like, so I bought it just out of curiosity, to see what it is, it’s very cheap anyway.
It’s a full case, not just a back cover. It’s o.6 mm thick and it’s made of a very clear, soft plastic. The thing that makes it stand out of all those cheap, no-name similar cases is the attention to details. The are two embedded protective caps, one for the USB port and one for the 3.5mm jack.
All buttons are covered. The case is almost unnoticeable and leaves the camera lens rather unprotected, but it’s the thinnest full case you can buy and it’s not really slippery. Unfortunately, there is a great disadvantage for me. I use a full face tempered glass that covers the entire front face of the device. The case makes contact with the glass in a specific spot and raises the glass just enough to make typing of the “a” and the “q” just a little difficult. Other than that, it’s one incredible case that offers a great compromise between style, protection and price. It’s not “heavy duty” either, but it actually makes the phone look even nicer and gives a little protection against every day scratches.
I hope that was a little useful for any of you considering to buy a case. Thanks!
I like that last one (edit: Nillkin Nature Case). I used to use the official Samsung case (not the wallet version) and it wasn't bad, but it made the phone a bit wider and taller. I eventually just started using the phone naked and I love the way it feels and tge phone is nicer looking too. Problem is... well, it isn't protected from drops anymore. I also paint sometimes, and have gotten paint on my phone a few times from it rubbing off of my hands. Luckily, I use latex paint, so I just scrape it off with my finger nail, but still, having a case would catch any paint.
Question:
Will the Nature Case fit an ATT Note 4 N910A?

Not sure, maybe you could ask the potential seller. Odds are that it fits, although I've heard about cases not fitting specific Note 4 models.

One of the 4 big US carrier models has the microphone in a different place, but I'm pretty sure the ATT model follows the international design. I'll need to check though.

Thanks for putting that post together! I like that Nilkin Nature case also... it looks very similar to my current "go to" case, a transparent Ringke Fusion (which also has attached port covers; I really wish more cases had this!) From your pics and the cases description, it seems like the Ringke might be slightly more protective, but it's not quite as sleek and has a bit of a boxier shape.
In your opinion, is the lip that protrudes from the sides on the front that protect the screen if face-down "high enough"? I did see what you wrote about the screen protector issue so it might be hard to say, but if the phone was dropped face-down from, say, knee height, would the center of the screen be protected from making contact?
I'm tempted to pick one up... if I end up not using it I could always cut off the port protectors and attach them to a different case

You're correct, I haven't mentioned anything about "face down protection". The reason for my omission is that I never do it, but now that I think of it, maybe I should, my tempered glass covers the entire face of my phone.
Anyway, the only case that I own and have a "lip" is the Spigen. All the others reach on the same level with my tempered glass. I do not consider Nillkin nature and, especially, Imak to offer any kind of protection against a very strong impact or a fall, they are too thin. On the other hand, they offer adequate protection against every day beatdown and alter the looks of the device as little as possible. I guess we can't have it all!
If I had to choose between those two, I'd choose Nillkin. Its material is softer (and perhaps more impact absorbant), it covers all the sides of the device and has the port covers.

That is why I went with the Spigen Tough Armor. I know the Otterbox Defender is the better case, but it makes my Note 4 way too bulky for my taste. While the Spigen Tough Armor does bulk up my Note 4 it's doesn't do it as much as the Otterbox Defender and it still offers good protection for my phone in case I accidentally drop it.

Thanks for the details I did a photo search for the Nilkin Nature, and it really does look like the sides are almost flush with the screen (no lip). I was surprised to see that because I have 6 or 7 cases and all of them do have enough of a lip to keep the screen from making contact when placed face-down. I always use a tempered glass protector also, but I'd prefer not to scratch or crack that, ya know, if I can help it I did recently crack the glass protector that I had on my tablet (a Sammy S2) by dropping it on my wood floor while swapping micro SDs. Definitely preferable to cracking the screen (especially with a free warranty replacement) but there's always some chance that the application of the new one will be jacked up, and no one wants that!
So in light of that discovery about the Nilkin, I'm just going to stick with my Ringke Fusion as my main case, and I'd definitely recommend it to others. I just checked Amazon to make sure it's still available, and it is for just $10. It's really pretty protective for a TPU skin (my phone's definitely survived a drop or... several onto a wood floor) and it has attached port covers!! :good: :good:
While looking at cases I also noticed that there's an updated version of the Verus Iron Shield, which IMO looks slick. I have the original and I like it, but haven't used it in a while just because I've been more into slimmer cases. The update looks really nice, but I could think of more practical ways to spend $20 since I have the older one; I think I'd be all over it if I didn't though. My number one recommendation remains the Ringke Fusion though: slim, protective, cheap, translucent, and I forget if I mentioned this already, but it does, in fact, have port covers(!!)

The Ringke seems to be in the same tier as the Spigen I own, but it looks a little better due to the ports. Nillkin Nature is something different, it aims to offer casual protection only and keep the bulk to the bare minimum.

It's not an easy question to answer, because each one serves a different purpose. The most protective is the Rock, then the Spigen. Nillkin nature is the thinnest , IMAK is a transparent back cover and Nillkin frosted shield the same.
I would really like to get the Dr. V case made by Rock. I have seen some youtube videos about it, and it looks like the near perfect case for my use.
Has anyone been able to find a place that sells it still?
I found a ali express page, but it is sold out.

Ordered the Ailiber case, glass screen protector and holster from Amazon. Seems like a good deal at $12.99 until Encased comes out with theirs (which I'm waiting for). According to Amazon there are 19 left and the manufacturer isn't producing any more.
i grabbed the spigen tempered glass screen protector, 2pack used em on both our phones that came today, comes with a frame you use to make alignment easier, honestly easiest screen protector ive ever put on. not sure what i want for a case yet
Just got the official fabric case, feels great, love it. Feels like i have a Nest Speaker in my end haha, same material it seems.
The case seems strong and is slim enough, goes a bit over the display, just like it should to be able to put the device face down, but not too much.
It almost exactly matches the camera bump in terms of height, like a quarter of a millimeter thicker so the glass doesn't touch whatever you put your device on.
All in all, very satisfied.
I have used Spigen Rugged Armor cases for 5 different devices including the 4a5G and am extremely happy with these.
NONZERS screen glass protectors are OKish, as they fit nicely, but the hole for the front camera is a little bit off. The 3 pack come with a mounting frame which makes installation a 30 second task.
Problem with LK screen protectors
So I've noticed this with LK screen protectors. There is always a small tiny piece on the edges that never really properly seals. I've used the same brand on the 4A and the same thing is there as well. Now, to be honest I did take the phone out of the case and went over the spots with a micro fiber cloth and one of them seemed to go away. If you're OCD then it will bug you. If not then it's fine. @zaibas do you have this issue with your Spiegen glass protector?
*Also maybe the case that I'm using but it does collect lint/dust on the edges. Nothing a quick wipedown can't fix.

As crazy as this sounds, I had the same problem on my current iphone se2 and a little olive oil on a qtip fills the gap nicely. I followed someone's guide on youtube and it came out great. 6 months later it doesn't look as good as the day I did it but it's still way better than when I first put the screen protector on, It was a huge ring around the entire screen and looked terrible

Thanks for posting this! I saw this some years ago, mine is miniscule now so I may just decide to live with it.

Very clean look bro.
I personally like a case and I always find a clear tpu to be the most grippy. I'm currently going between:
TopAce slim TPU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08H26MD28/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Spigen (thicker) Ultra Hybrid: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08D65BG5X/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The Spigen provides a little more protection, while the slimmer one is kinda nice in the hand considering how wide this phone already is.

Spigen Liquid Air Armor..
Any word on Spigen thin/slim or Ringke slim? The matte black ones that have a soft texture, feel grippy and are very thin.
If not any similar recommendations with good grip and thin?
Sure aren't many 4A (5G) cases to choose from on Amazon. I have the one from Huness coming on Monday for $9. But what about going caseless? Any ideas how scratch resistant the plastic core case is?
I ordered this one, at least until better ones show up. Or maybe it's good enough.

I need a case because I have a metal plate for the magnet mount in the car. Also, protecting the phone is a good idea when trade-ins come along. My P2XL from 3 yrs ago is still in mint condition and took advantage of the $240 trade-in value for it at the Google Store.
Took plunge from 2XL with $235 trade. Phone still does everything I could ask, just no more updates. Anyone see a difference/downgrade in resolution?
Some stuff sold out on Amazon. Wanted thin case. Went to Spigen direct
https://www.spigen.com/collections/pixel-4a
30% off still active for BF.
Went ahead and got everything here. Liquid Armor, and glass for screen and camera.
Glass seems way expensive compared to what is available in Amazon. Anyone think there is a difference/worth the cost?
Camera protector is new to me. Might as well. Apple rejected a trade in last year because lens cover was cracked.
Liquid Armor...slim and textured with Adequate protection. First time in several generations of devices that I will not have a Diztronic case. Always loved them.
Have also grown used to sticking a pop-up handle on the back. Used to think they are gimmicky....but quickly grew used to it. Still slides in pocket. Really helps with one handed operation and makes phone way more secure in hand. Works as kickstand also! Wonder if there will be a problem with it sticking to the textured back of Liquid Armor?

I too think the screen in the P2XL is somewhat better when it comes to font crispness and contrast black on white. Colors seem a bit better on the 4a 5G.
I also agree that I could have gotten another year out of the P2XL if not for lack of updates.
It doesn't feel that the 4a 5G is an upgrade, more like a sideways move.

I got the spigen glass screen protector, and case. I agree the template to install the glass was awesome, and my application looks perfect. Also the case fits perfect around the screen cover. I am glad I went with a name brand, vs crappy stuff off ebay.
