I haven't seen anyone else reporting this issue, but (unlike the distortion issue) I am also having an issue with my loudspeaker. It only works some of the time.
I've missed notifications, alarms, and had issues listening to music, getting Google Assistant to talk, and watching youtube. Sometimes my Pixel just makes no sounds. When I notice it, I can often get audio working by trying several different audio producing apps, although I have had times where I simply have to wait, and the next time I try (maybe hours later) the audio is working again.
Has anyone else had this issue? I've definitely not been very impressed by this phone, wish I could go back to my N5.

Hello,
I am a proud owner of a couple Android Phones since the HTC G1, the HTC Magic and so goes on.
Now I was very excited to get the Nexus S, but on the first day of use, after making all the updates to 2.3.2 and installing all my usual apps, I noticed a crackling sound when hearing music from the speakers.
I can not find the reason of this but would like to know if someone had a problem similar to mine, and if yes, if it was possible to solve it.
There are some facts about this crackling noise that I point as follow:
- The crackling sound is not present all the times. The phone works well when playing shorts sounds like ringtones and notifications. I can hear everything crystal clear;
- When I start to hear a song (tried many different players, all the same problem), or when I am playing a game that uses constant music or sound effects, the crackling sound starts after some minutes of perfect sound (usually between 01:00 and 01:30 of good playing);
- It seems like a irregular white noise, like playing a corrupted MP3 file, that gets in the middle of the media;
- It beguns with a low volume compared to the media and gets louder as time passes, until it gets more frequent and as louder as the music playing;
- At first I thought of a broken speaker, and checked the headphones, but the crackling sound appears when listening music on both headphones and external speakers;
- Then I noticed the crackling sound appears on long voice calls too.
Well... I thought it could be something related to the software, so tried the OEM recovery process (Settings > Privacy > Factory data reset), but it was not sucessfull.
[Q] Does anyone had a problem like mine?
[Q] Could someone point what could be the cause of it or a possible solutions?
Thanks in advance.
Jon
I noticed the same thing while listening to Pandora. Not sure what's going on. I'm on Modaco and don't know if its something in there or not.
I hear the noise after about 30 minutes of pandora.
I'm having the same issue running Modaco while listening to music via Spotify.
Just got back to the stock ROM, I'll see if it's any better and keep you guys posted.
I can now confirm that stock ROM is not affected by this issue.

Occasionally the sound in the bottom speakers will stop working and some apps will play through the ear speaker instead. When this happens Google Music, Youtube and some other apps won't work at all. For example pressing play in either of those apps does nothing, as in the play button never changes to a pause button. My alarm app on the other hand plays through the ear speaker instead of not working at all. The ear speaker sound volume is very quiet and doesn't appear to be controlled by the media volume either.
The only remedy that I've been able to find for this is a phone reboot
Wanted to bump this thread -
I originally thought this issue was related to Bluetooth because I use multiple bluetooth devices, but this has happened again recently when I didn't use any Bluetooth devices.
I have the exact same issue, and it's occurrence is random. This started happening a month back. I'm guessing this is due to some software update or something, but its really annoying and the only fix is a reboot.
Anyone has any ideas, whats going on ?
It's been happening multiple times a day lately! It's gotten substantially worse over the past month. I was watching a video, sent a text and when I went to resume it wouldn't play - low and behold the bug came back.. definitely appears to be completely random.

This problem is driving me crazy
I have the exact same issue. Factory reset and update to newest firmware didn't help any idea?
Wash your phone. And wait till it dry.
I (and other person that I know) have the same issues.
No sound from bottom, and sometimes during the call no audio (I can't ear evrything and the other don't ear me).
Now I'm tring the mobile phone in safety mode.
And I've seen (for the edge version) that next android could fix the problem.
Someone have any update?
Have you tried the safety mode?
Im pretty sure its caused by Facebook messenger and Skype
From what I can tell, this seems to happen when you are playing any kind of audio, such as a video or game, and then receive a notification. You then go to the notification to respond to it and go back to your app that was playing the audio and the issue appears. It seems to be an issue, at least with me, whenever notification is received and subsequently answered.
Really hoping i'm not the only one experiencing this issue.
Whenever I make a call using the main microphone (not speakerphone) after a few minutes people say i sound "muffled" or they hear a "clicking" sound. The clicking sound happens just before my mic cuts out entirely and the other person cant hear me until i switch to speakerphone. Oddly enough, switching from speakerphone then turning it off solves the issue for a minute before it happens all over again. Additionally resetting the phone seems to fix the issue for an hour or so. I have yet to try and repeat this error using a VOIP call like FB messenger.
Anyone else experiencing this, or can offer some help?
I know Pixel 2 bluetooth problems have been discussed here and elsewhere ad nauseam, but I honestly haven't found anyone else experiencing the problem I'm having. Or really even close. None of this was an issue with my Nexus 6P, which I just replaced.
First problem: Audio programs mute between tracks. The phone thinks it's playing them, but it isn't. Take Pandora. A few songs will play fine, then one will end, and suddenly it'll go mute when the next song starts. I'll notice no sounds playing, and I'll look down to see it think it's playing, but with no sound. If I pause and hit play again, the sounds start up until the next song, when it does the same thing. This happens with every audio program I've tried EXCEPT Google Play Music, which works fine. It also sometimes works for 4-5 songs before tanking.
Second problem: notification noises suffer the same fate. I'll have Google Play Music going (which works), and it'll just cut out for a second). That's the notification buzz, which silences the music but doesn't actually play anything. Obviously I can't use the play/pause test to see if that fixes this.
I'm using Soundpeats Q16 true wireless. I unfortunately don't have much else with which to test this. I'd blame Soundpeats, but they worked great on my 6P, and the bluetooth problems with the P2 make me think it's not on Soundpeats here.
I've messed around with the Developer options, and I THINK that setting the Playback Quality to anything steady (330kbps, 660kpbs, or 990 kbps) fixes it. The problem is that that, and the other Bluetooth developer options, all reset on me almost immediately, so that's tough to prove. I have also tried messing around with Tasker, whose sounds also wind up muted.
So one question I'd have would be: is there a way to make those developer options stick?
Second question would be: anybody else in this boat?
I have tried both re-pairing and factory resetting the headphones, several times.
Anyone having audio issues with bluetooth?
It constantly cuts out, stops playing, disconnects, etc.
I've turned off battery optimiser for YoutTube Music and bluetooth. I've tried a few speakers, they all have the same issue.
Someone with a similar issue on reddit suggested turning off wifi. Doesn't work.
It's a strange bug, in that it is inconsistent.
Sometimes the music player will pause, other times it will just keep playing the track, but no sound will come out of the speaker. Other times, it'll stop playing, then when it starts again, the volume will be re-set to a lower setting.
It's doing my head in. I wish I could flash a custom ROM and be done with MIUI, but they all look buggy.

Yes I am facing this problem when I connect to my Bluetooth speaker
It's only doing it with certain apps.
YT music is worst, followed by Radioapp. It doesn't do it with the triple J app, (another Radio station here in Aus). In saying that, the triple J app consumes the most battery, so maybe it has something to do with MIUI's ****ty battery optimising, even though I have disabled it for those apps.
