E6653/E6603 WiFi Issues - Xperia Z5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So for the past few software versions, my Z5 will randomly disconnect from the Internet when using WiFi. The phone is still connected to the WiFi network, but not to the internet.
The only way to fix the issue is by turning off WiFi and then turning it on again.
I've had this problem for (I think) the last three software versions (I'm now running 32.2.A.5.11). It happens on both my E6653 and on my sister's E6603, both fully stock and unrooted, and happens on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz networks.
It happens at random with no apparent pattern, but happens more and more frequently until the phone is rebooted.
Any advice on a possible fix would be appreciated.
Thanks-in-advance,

try flashing version ending in .253 and see if problem still exist

I've had the issue since .253 if not the version before that. So I doubt that would help.

Bump.

same problem here

Looks like it's probably a persistent issue with all of Sony's firmware versions... I recently unlocked my phone and flashed Lineage OS, and the WiFi problem is gone!
My sister is still stock on her E6603 and the problem's still there even on the latest firmware.

Wifi bug - connects to network, but not internet

I'm experiencing a bug on my Nexus 5, when I first unboxed my device and setup this problem arise for the first time, problem is Nex 5 is connected to my home wifi network but no internet connection/data transmission !! at that time I tinkered a little bit like forget network and reconnected it then it was fixed, after that this problem rarely appear. Then comes the real problem yesterday I rooted my phone then it wont connect to internet same as before connection is accepted and have full strength signal but not connecting to internet, I've tried rebooting, forgetting and connecting, troubleshooted PC etc but nothing seems to fix the problem !! I double checked my network like I connected my tab with wifi and it's working perfectly fine.
Is this a common/known bug with Nexus 5 ? Or it's just me ? (h/w issue)
Any known fix other than I mentioned ?
Does rooting caused this problem appear more frequently ?
Any response will be highly appreciated.
Thank you
Try connecting to a different network, it may be a compatibility issue. Also try rebooting your router/wireless. If that doesn't work then try restoring factory image.
If none of those options fix it then there could be a problem with your Nexus 5's hardware

I'm now flashing factory images, if that doesn't work I'll do a replacement.
I have this issue too, with different WiFi routers.
(Full stock Nexus 5)
Out of intetrest what countries are you connecting in. When I had a Desire HD I had trouble connecting to Turkish routers. Different frequencies? Have you ever connected to your router with an actual connection?
Have yu tried disabling wifi optimzation?

I did tried with each and every option toggled with but still no way.
Sometimes out of nothing it gets ok then goes bad again.
I'm from India and using Teracom router. Funny thing is my tab here working just fine with my home wifi network, I'll try with another wifi network tomorrow.

Merely rooting the device would have no effect on the Wifi connection. Did you also install a custom rom or kernel?

Yeah, so it's a wifi thing. Did you try changing the channel on the router? You can use inSSider to find the best one.

Major Data problems

Hi all, I am having major data problems with my phone. I am using Ting on the sprint CDMA/LTE network.
I am currently running CM12.1 nightlies but the problem existed on Android stock L and CM 12.
What happens is, after 5 min to several hours i lose data connectivity and end up with an exclamation point on the signal bar meter. When this happens the only way to fix it is to reboot the phone. I have tried to do a Carrier update and PRL update but both give network errors and fail. I also tried to type the *#DATA code but it doesnt work, it just deletes what I type in an nothing happens.
Also, even when my data is working (and it says LTE on the signal bars), my mobile network data slider in settings is always off and can not be turned on, no matter what.
I am on the 5.1 radio and even tried to reflash it. Any ideas?
Thanks

Also experiment with Radios. Nexus 5 for me has been the worst for Radio reliability. The latest one for me gives the issues you describe. Its not the only one to do so either.

On my tablet, the 5GHz signal is holding steady under Marshmallow, whereas it would drop from time to time under Lollipop.

Wifi connected, but no internet access

I get connected (no internet access) from time to time when I automatically connect to my school's network. It connects automatically and works in some buildings and doesn't in others. Turning wifi off and on fixes the issue. However, it is annoying to keep doing this. I had this issue on EMUI 4.1 and 5.0 (through charles and dload) so I don't think it's the version of android. Is anyone else having the same issue? Could it be the school network's issue? Thanks.
Have you tried using a different internet browser?

Sorry for the late reply. It's the WiFi in general. Apps that require Internet don't connect either. I did a factory reset and that didn't fix anything.
I have similar problem. When I first got my phone it was on firmware B160 without any problem. I updated to Nougat using firmware finder and the problem started to surface. I rolled back to B160 using their rollback tool, which then got updated to B162. It's much more stable than Nougat but not as good as the original firmware that I was on. Each time I had done factory reset after the update to make sure I am not in some dirty state. (L04 variant)
I have similar problem sometimes on my honor 8, it shows up excellent internet connectivity but failed to lunch apps like facebook or youtube etc(says no internet connection) while other hand samsung A8 run just fine with same wifi network at same time. I have done factory reset but nothing miracle happen still same problem. Frustrating....
If it's been on both 4.1 and 5 its either a hardware issue or the school network is bad

Yes but if it can't connect even when you update to emui 5 then it will be the network.

I have restarted my phone several times, but not the AP because it is at my work and there are about 50 AP's all over campus and I doubt they will restart them for me lol. Amazon sent me a replacement phone as well so now I have 2 phones doing the same problem, just at work.

Then the problem is with the router itself. On my experience, some routers will let you connect but will not give you an internet connection.

Definitely the issue is from the router
There was this point where my laptop can connect to the router but can't connect to the internet. After a few days it got fixed automagically.
Have you checked to see if your internet connection is active? If it isn't then you would need to contact your ISP for more assistance with this issue.

WiFi on 47.1.A.12.34

Updated today on customised UK. Having major issues with WiFi, it connects to router fine but drops out really often.
Anyone else having problems?
Hi,I was update to this.34 and WiFi works ok,but i had the always on location icon bug, many People too i seen, still waiting for a fix...
In on Open UK, 34 wifi is fine for me.. i did a factory reset after install though
It's strange, it only seems to be an issue on my home wifi, works fine on other networks. No one else is having problems. And it definitely started happening after I updated the firmware.
It gets stuck on the up arrow next to the wifi symbol and just stops working. I've tried changing channels in the router but no joy.
Anyone technical with any ideas? I'll try a factory reset as a last resort but just wondering if there's anything else I an do...
Cheers

You are not the only one. I clear cashe of Google Play and now everything is OK. If that don't help try reseting settings of your phone. This is Google problem (it is still there on Android 8.1.0) so wait for fix either from Sony or Google.
It's definitely only an issue with this firmware for me. I've now reverted to the previous version, it was driving me mad!!

Is it just on your home network too?
I've found if I disable security on the network it works fine, though obviously not a good solution
Not only home network. It happens at work as well and most likely other ones...
I had a problem like this ages ago when I first got my xzp. I found it to be an issue with the newer versions of dual band routers that combine the 2/5ghz bands into one access point. By disabling this feature and connecting separately I solved the issue.
Home wifi has different ap names for 2/5ghz networks so that's not the issue.
