Changing N5 display colour profile in Nougat. - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I have a preferred colour profile I have been using since forever but can't work out how to get it on my new Nougat ROM.
I was using Franco's Display app but it just seems to crash on Nougat... Is there any way to apply colour profile in Nougat? If so, am I able to load a profile designed to be used with the Display app?
Thanks

You may acomplish this by either installing a custom kernel which supports color calibration, (Franco, blue_spark, etc..), and use Franco's app, or you may install "Kernel Adiutor" and under screen settings apply one of the many profiles provided, granting that your current stock kernel supports color calibration, which is the case in most of the Nougat ROMS.

[Q] Android DPI

This is probably more of a general Android question and one that I've never been able to fully fix on any of my Android devices. When I change the dpi (currently on my RAZR HD VZW) it breaks several Play Store apps. Sometimes I can't download new apps because it will say "your device is not compatible..." and I can't even get updates to current apps I have installed. As soon as I change back to the default dpi and reboot, everything works perfectly. Is there a way around this when changing the dpi on an Android device?
Thanks,
caseym

Hi, where do you change it? Are you having a custom rom? basically you should fix the permissions, then all should be ok (on my HTC this was possible through the CodefireX settings, or an apk I used before being LCD modder); on stock I haven't seen these possibilities....

I just use Root Explorer, go into /system and open build.prop in Text Editor, change the line for lcd density, save & exit, reboot. It works and has always worked on all my devices, but like I said, it always breaks market apps.

right, do know (simply because I lost my root), but doesn't CMW have a "fix persmissions"? (coming back to my HTC I had 4ext & had this function) - basically when you fix the permissions all should be ok. remains the question now here where can you do it... (sorry, not that kind of a pro...)

Exactly! How do we do this now since we don't have CWM???
You can change the dpi of the Razr HD to 240 without breaking anything. Default is 320. And, if you use an alternative launcher, you can also set it to 200. I modified a script to allow the change easily... you can read about it here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2002914
It's primarily designed for lapdock usage, but if you wish to just change your dpi for visual reasons, it'll work as well.

OK thanks a lot for that. 240 is a little too small for me, especially since it doesn't change it to tablet mode (like my GNex did when you set it below 260). Is there any way to enable tablet mode? Like Paranoid Android look?

Using a custom launcher and setting to 200 dpi does change to a tablet mode, sort of. Make sure you pick a launcher that has tablet functionality too. Apex launcher supports 200dpi and has tablet functionality, for example. I haven't tried higher dpi with Apex but you just have to play with it.

[Feature Request] Advanced Display

Hi,
I used this rom and before it, i used cyanogenmod 10.2 on my galaxy s3 LTE. One feature that i miss from there was the ability to control the gamma of the screen, a feature called Advanced Display in cyanogenmod, like we have in touchwiz. Is it possible to include a feature like that in omni roms?
This is kernel related. Just flash a kernel that supports gamma control.

Oh ok, i didn't knew that
I think we have the control stuff required in the kernel, but we haven't gotten around to integrating the Settings side of it yet.

App to control display like nexus

Is there any app that allow to modify the values of single color and set profiles like this app that was made for nexus 4, 5 and 6?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2424467
Our "color control" with all kernel is not that good like that, we can only change colors, not the real gamma. For exapmle: i don't wanna get a white that becomes blue, i wanna get a white that is more brighter.
With synapse, franco.kernel updater and boeffla config i can't do that, i can only fake colors.
You need to use a custom kernel with colour control, like AK kernel. Then you can use the Synapse app to make those changes.

[Q] Lock Screen batter indicator [Lollipop]

Hi there can anyone help, I noticed Google has added an official battery percentage indicator into Lollipop. However it only shows up active when the phone is plugged into power charging and also only shows up on the lock screen (see screenshot from N5).
Is there a way to enable this permanently as none of the apps out there really cut it for this feature, is there a thread on this topic as I cannot seem to find one??
I guess on stock ROM you have to live with what you've got. There are a few apps out there which can show a notification on the left side of the statusbar. But that's not a good solution.
Nearly every custom ROM supports changing the battery symbol though (with percentage / without ...)

Much appreciated for the response experience7! sorry my bad, my poor explanation I'm happy to run a different ROM etc but was wondering if this modification can be done with say an adb cmd under root if it's just a flag within lollipop or is the only way with a ROM?? if so can you recommend one that's as close to stock as possible for Nexus 5 that allows this as there is so many?
You could try stock ROM with Xposed Framework.. I'm pretty sure there's some kind of customization module which lets you handle how battery icon / percentage should look like and when they should be visible. Not sure if GravityBox is compatible with Lollipop yet.
I read somewhere that Cataclysm ROM should be stock-based with lots of features! There's a thread here on xda-developers Maybe read OP / search / ask there if it has the option

How to have display temperature control??

Hey, guys. Is there any other ROM BESIDES PARANOID ANDROID that can give me the ability to control the display temperature? In Paranoid Android 5.1.1 (build 23rd of Aug) you get a slider in the Display settings that lets you control how the display looks. I really like this feature and it's the only thing holding me back from flashing a stock Motorola ROM. I REALLY DON'T want to install any blue light filter apps, like Twilight. They slown down the device. I use this feature to help me sleep better but I hate using 3rd party apps.
Alternatively, is there any way I can flash that feature into a stock Motorola ROM or any other ROM? Paranoid is giving me trouble and has no support anymore. Thanks in advance guys.
Even CM12 has LiveDisplay. If you do not want to flash anything over stock just install kernel aduitor and go to screen (This works provided you have a KCAL kernel). Here is a kernel for stock XT1032
