Would you guys recommend the pixel to a friend or relative? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

hey guys my brother is due for an upgrade. he asked me for my suggestion. mind you, he will never root or install a rom.
i am torn between the pixel and the galaxy s7 (he doesnt mind touchwiz he isnt too much into techy stuff) he just wants something that works.
i kinda want to tell him get the pixel because i want one so bad LOL
any suggestions would be great
thanks bros

That's a tough choice as they're both great phones. I love the software, speed, and smooth operation of the Pixel. The S7 is awesome piece of hardware. Can't go wrong with either. The S7 is a little older thank the Pixel if that makes a difference.

I'd push the Pixel. It doesn't have any proprietary gimmicks, just good ol Android how Google envisions it. Fast, dependable, great device. I got both my in-laws into Pixels over the holidays through the VZW specials and they're getting along great with them.
I also pushed one to a co-worker and she loves it too although she says Samsung selfies are better lol.

thanks for the feedback. it helped a lot

I would definitely get the Pixel. Samsungs work fine, but TouchWiz is just awful. I can't get over the ugliness of their UI, but I guess it all boils down to what you prefer.

I second that.
Dell streak is tooooooooo big, N900 is tooo old (and a dying os), Leo is the best of your options. But, maybe you are considering other phones like the desire or Nexus One maybe????
Get the Samsung Vibrant(unless u care about front facing camera and flash get EVO). Galaxy S series is the smoothest Android phone in the market.

Nah, the i9000 is Samsung, remember the others???? I just don't think I'm ready to trust samsung with phones yet, plus the design looks tacky to me. I also hear bad things about the software and limits to custom ROMS....
i am not really intrested in samsung phones tbh (I don't like there visual appearance)
I also don't like the desires look.
And the nexus one is to expensive as i can get these devices for quite a bit cheaper.
less talk, more HD2. $250 on CL right now. If the explosion in Android development recently hasn't proven to you, people who matter love this phone. I haven't seen any phone get this much Android love so fast. Hell some native android phones don't get this much android love. The people we have working on the HD2 are amazing. They went from won't even boot to semi stable in like a week. There doing stuff people predicted 6 months to complete overnight. I'm very excited for the HD2 at the moment and see it living on for many years since all the phones from here out will be new gen locked down iphoney OS's. So HD2 may really be the last of the mohicans.

We've produced a large number of "why I love my Xoom" threads...well it's really great. I can do so much with it and it's always with me. My family's actually jealous of my relationship with it, lol.
There's a great community of developers and enthusiasts and everyone tries to help each other root and mod and test new stuff. The Xoom's great as a stock pure Google Experience tab, but it really shines when it's rooted and running custom roms/kernels. It's also built like a tank and is really hard to brick. So yeah, I think it would be a good trade.

[Q] Thinking of switching to the NS4G?

Now I know many of these threads have been made before, but currently I am considering switching to the NS4G from my Samsung Epic 4G (Original).
I understand the forum here will be a bit biased, but I am curious to see the what people's opinions are.
What makes me unsure is the fact that I am giving up a physical keyboard, SD Card slot, etc.
I know that the Nexus has way better development though, and I do eventually plan on rooting the device.
Still, it's a battle of better hardware vs better software.
Ideas? Thanks.
I just made the switch, and jumped on the free upgrade from Sprint. I found myself using the physical keyboard on the Epic less and less. Also, I never fill up my storage, and I never really buy sd cards. I am jumping on the Nexus for development purposes, and I like the feel of the phone way more than the larger E4GT and PHOTON. To me, those phones are too big for my hands. I'll let you know when I acutally get the phone, what my impressions are of it. I don't think you can go wrong any way.
I just recently got one and both as a developer as well as an avid system modder, I have to say this phone is just absolutely fantastic! I've only had it for about 5 days and I'm in love with it. I got the ballistic soft gel case for it and I'm never going back to my evo.
I just switched from an EVO Shift and had to give up a keyboard. I don't regret it. The only thing I miss is the Shift's screen was a lot sharper which was most noticeable when reading text...I assume because of the Pentile on this screen and the fact that the screen on the shift was only 3.6", not pentile but yet had the same resolution(480x800). However, that isn't an issue going from the Epic to the NS4G. Also, how full and how much do you really remove your SD card? I use dropbox for almost all file transfers even when I was using my Shift so that also isn't a big deal.
I assume performance will feel pretty much the same between the Epic and the NS4G so don't expect a huge performance boost.
I think the main thing would be whether you really want the HW keyboard or not and also whether or not you really need or want to have the newest OS vs a possible port on the Epic which has the potentil of being a lot more buggy. If you like to tinker I believe the NS4G is a much better phone because of all the development for it.
I have to believe selling your Epic and buying a used NS4G wouldn't set you back very much money since there are people who swear by a HW keyboard and the Epic is still arguably the best Android keyboard phone on Sprint (The Shift is the other one but they are quite different and I'm guessing people will strongly choose one or the other) so I would go for it.
Hey Acer, I remember you over in the Epic side of the bridge, LOL.. I still have my Epic 4G like you, so when the EVO 3d came out, I bought it out of pocket. I really like my EVO 3d, as development for it is amazing. I like the EVO 3d much, much better than I liked my Epic. IMO. The sense UI is very useful, and i like sense much more than i like TWiz. Anyhoo, since my owning the EVO 3d, I have come across a Nexus S 4G. And all I can say is WOW! The development for the nexus is off the hook! As for the look, feel, and the UI, well the look of it is slim, and slender, it feels nice in my hand. The UI on it, I can sum up in one word, SMOOTH! It doesn't have all the bells and whistels (? did I spell that right?) on it that sense has, but if you use "Android Pro Widgets" with it, you will have really nice sense style widgets to boot. All in all, I like both the EVO 3d and the nexus S the best. My advice is get the nexus s, I don't think you'll be disapointed. It's really nice.

I was ready to leave Android for WP7, but SGS3...

I was perfectly ready to leave the Android platform for WP7. Either for a Nokia Lumia 900 or HTC Titan II.
But with the release of the Samsung Galaxy S3, I'm kinda being lured back to Android.
Anyone in this kind of predicament? And if so... Any advice?
I'm currently using a HTC Desire. But by now it's very outdated, slow and likes to crash lately.
I really like the design of WP7 but I think it's no alternative to Android. Just think about the possibilities to customize ur system. I really need something new once in a while.
But the design of the SGS3 does not really satisfy me. I really don't like these plastic cases...
IMHO if you were about to jump ship the GS3 shouldn't really make you change your mind. It's definitely not a game changer. Sure it's a good phone, but if I still had my GS2 I wouldn't upgrade yet. If I'll ever go back to Android it will be for no less than a Cortex-a15 and an edge to edge SAMOLED+ HD. If I were you I'd get a Lumia 900 while I wait for the GS4, or even for the iPhone 5 or 6. At least you'll have the chance to try WP for a good while, and if you like it you may also consider getting an Apollo device when they come out. I'm very likely to go for this option, I've been pretty happy with WP7 in the last 5 months. No matter how hard I try, I can't really keep a phone for more than a year, I get bored easily I guess

Its not always about being able to customize your phone. Sometimes its just about being able to USE your phone. I must be getting old because working on android is starting to get boring. Is the Beta test over? I think when people say customize what they are really saying is updating to the latest version of Android because the manufactures aren't doing it. Why should we have to do something that is somewhat expected of the phone manufactures? I'm still waiting on official ICS for my Xoom and Rezound. One thing you can say about WP and iPhone when an update comes out EVERYONE gets it at the same time, not when a phone manufacturer gets to it. That is really starting to get old for me. Maybe I should go back to the old flip phones they never needed updates..
just my 2 cents.. (who cares right?)
Just purchase a used GS2, you have a Desire and you may keep your next device for a long time.

Honestly I don't mind "forcing" an update from time to time. Also, people should start to understand that once that a new version of the software comes out your phone won't brick itself. I mean, if I had an ICS device now I probably won't give a damn about JB when it comes out. ICS is pretty much a full experience, JB will definitely be a minor update, like 2.2 to 2.3. Anyway I must say that I feel pretty much like you. Toying with the phone all day can be fun for a while, but once you're not a teen with nothing to do anymore you may wanna have a phone that just works with no gimmicks. That's why I'm happy with WP7 now. I'm still a nerd tho, don't get me wrong: I'm getting an Android tablet as soon as a good one comes out (Exynos quad please), but basically just for fun. As to my PHONE it's all a different kind of business right now, if you get what I mean

Lots of truth. And with that in mind, I might be tempted to move to iOS or WP7.
But, although I don't live to flash new ROM's all the time or customizing the phone constantly, I do have my phone customized just the way I want it and the way it is most useful to me. This includes, having a custom ICS ROM (I tried 2, settled on one and haven't moved for months, except for updates which are OTA and pretty simple). I don't think I could get either iOS or WP7 (probably mostly because of the lack of some of the apps I have on Android) to behave the way I want them to.
In the case of iOS I speak out of current personal experience. My personal phone is a SGS with ICS. The company I work with gave us iPhones. It's a pain in the ass to use that thing. Simple things such as turning stuff on or off, and the notifications are a joke. Lack of widgets is another weak point for iPhone, among many, many other things. The only really strong point is the camer which takes great pictures. But I end up taking them with my SGS because getting them off the iPhone is another goddamned chore.
I can't begin to count the times when I was doing something on the damn iPhone that takes me a zillion finger taps and thinking "this would be so simple on my SGS with a widget or shortcut or w/e".
In my case it's not really about customization for customization's sake. it's about productivity and, like someone said, being able to use the phone in a simple way. The phone adapts to the way I think, not the other way around.
The GS2 is one step forward and three steps back. It won't be as smooth, as good looking, or as user friendly as WP7, I guarantee that.
i will still go for a S2, and with the S3, S2 price will definitely drop.
the rom community for S2 is pretty awesome too, so yeah another plus point
I find the iPhone bland and screen has washed out colours. Ppi doesn't make a huge difference

Yeah, Microsoft must improve the worldwide support, here in Italy Bing is "beta", and doesn't really work well, so we're stuck with beta software. God, they should at least give us the option to change the default search engine, being forced to use a third party app just to "google" for something is pretty lame.

I believe you should stick to android but SGIII shouldn't be the phone that brings you back. Plastic is a pretty bad material
I'd wait for the price drop and get a SG2. It's a great phone and there's a lot of great ROMs out there.
I bought an Omnia W and kept it for 3 days. Hated it. All of it!
Returned it to the store and got my self a 1 month used SG2... couldn't be happier!

Plastic is more durable than metal or any other material. Take a galaxy s2 and an iPhone and drop them at shoulder height. The galaxy s2 will have a little dent in the plastic. The iPhone would be completely shattered

You may also consider the Gnex actually. Right now you can find it at a lower price compared to the GS2: here in Italy I can find it online for 359€, pretty good considering that the GS2 can't be found for less than 400€, and it's kind of a more "dated" device...

[Q] get the GS3 or something else?

Hey guys
I am a best buy mobile sales consultant and I get a nice verizon concession line with 100 dollars off of a phone of my choice (except iPhones lol classic). all my old phones broke and i am too broke myself for a new one but this old blackberry curve has done enough damage haha so its time.
anyway i am looking for advice rather than dishing it out for once.
i was set on the nexus 4 but with no LTE version thats not sounding too great.
note 2 and the DNA are too big for my liking and RAZR HD im not a fan of motoblur.
has vzw announced anything else for the end of the year or should i just go with the black GS3. i am a sucker for AOSP roms, will jellybean stock be ported to the GS3 or do you guys find no need to get rid of touchwiz..
any advice is appreciated. thanks.
The GS3 is such a great phone. I run AOKP and it is fantastic. The LTE is fast, there are a lot of customizable options, the screen is crisp, etc, etc. There are also some great options in TW Rom's as well, and the development in this area recently took off with the release of the JB leak. I could go on but I'm others will chime in as well.
Love the GS3. Would agree with the post above that with all the JB leak stuff going on, it's even better and smoother. I'm using CleanRom 4.0 and couldn't be happier. Scott really knows how to make a fast and effficent custom ROM.
I'm a very happy GS3 user as well (you'll find a lot of them around here ). I've also been using CleanRom for a while now, and not sure I'll switch. I've used sense, aosp, and now touchwiz, and honestly, TW doesn't bother me in the least. I have a hard time finding much fault with it, but I do also use Nova for my launcher.
That said, the Razr HDs look really good. I can't say much about MotoBlur, but as I understand it, it's been "reduced' drastically in the latest iterations so I would recommend at least checking it out. Aside from a Nexus (which seems doubtful VZW will get), the only thing else I would consider jumping to is the Note 2.
I should also say that you can't really go wrong with the most popular Android phone on the planet (30 million sold and counting).
I came from a Verizon Nexus, I saved my upgrade for that and sorry I didn't save it for the SIII which I bought online to save my unlimited data plan, but it was worth it battery life is great signal is light years ahead of the Nexus. And the ROMS are well there are tons AOSP style touchwiz etc. Love AOKP and BeansTown's work. can't go wrong with this phone, it is really a nice device.
since you already ruledout the DNA id say go w the gs3
I have the gs3 and I love it. If you don't mind larger screen the note2 is coming and its the same as the gs3 with a kick as gallery. HTC is also about to announce a new device that may be worth looking into. (Nov.13) is the announcement.
I just love the S3. I've been using the CleanRom custom ROM with all the great jellybean features that are available and couldn't be happier. It's exciting times with all the development that is going on.
There are AOSP Roms already out but they are no way near as stable as the TW Roms we have. They are still working things out.
TW on the S3 is actually pretty useful and coming from the GNEX as well, I do not really miss AOSP. Would rather go for stability right now and I am totally happy with TW.
The only other phone I would be interested in right now is the Galaxy S4 : )
