Hey German people, or anyone else who lives in Germany,
I'm coming to Germany for a month or so in a few months. I was wondering if you guys would know what they best carrier would be to get a sim card with? I don't plan on roaming to any other countries. I will be mostly using Skype and Whatsapp, so I will need around 6gb or something of data to last me for the month. Or a weekly GB allowance. I won't be needing to call much, if at all. So maybe 20 minutes or something, and texts probably wont be needed.
Probably going to be in the north, I won't be going anywhere too rural, I will be sticking to relatively large cities, Frankfurt, Hamburg, Berlin. Possibly some smaller towns in the middle of Germany.
I am looking for whoever can give me the dirtiest cheapest data plan with a touch of calls.
I would appreciate any help, or any other cell phone information you might think is relevant to me!
Dankesehr
That isn't easy to say.
Germany is expensive with data plans and we only have three carriers (o2, Telekom and Vodafone) everyone else is a reseller.
If you want LTE you can forget nearly every reseller, because most of them just use 3g and thats crowded in bigger cities.
Telekom and Vodafone are more expensive than o2, but they have a stable and fast connection nearly everywhere, o2 on the other side is cheap but in most parts of germany it's not that fast (max 5-10mbit and over resellers it's slower).
You can also just pay per month, not per week and flats nearly doens't exist (if you don't want to pay 200€+)
You can choose between telekom Prepaid ( https://www.telekom.de/unterwegs/tarife-und-optionen/prepaid-tarife ) 1 time 10€, with 20€ on card but with just 750mb and 750mb more costs 10€ or
vodafone callya ( https://www.vodafone.de/privat/handys-tablets-tarife/prepaid-ohne-vertrag.html ) for 10€ with 750mb+100mb +100mb if you use the vodafone app and for 4GB more you have to pay 30€ ( https://www.vodafone.de/privat/callya-prepaid-karte/callya-tarifoptionen.html )
we also got more and more free hotspots with a decent connection, so that would be ok if you are in bigger towns.
Ich hoffe ich konnte etwas helfen und wenn Fragen bestehen dann versuche ich sie auch zu beantworten.

Hey all,
I'm off to Ireland at the end of the week and I'm taking my XDA with me, I'd like to be able to use GPRS to get onto MSN etc, but I'm not sure how much I'd be charged for this, I've spoken to O2 about phone call and text prices, but forgot to ask about GPRS.
O2 do appear to have their own GPRS settings for Ireland, so my question is: If I use the GPRS setting for Ireland, will the MB's be used from my inclusive ones ? or will I be charged extra for them..
Cheers
read somewhere that they were making tons of money with overpricing roaming
read that a person using a local phone company could expect to pay up to
10£ pr MB when traveling around in europe
of cause if it's the same phone company maybe it's much cheaper
so,
i am going to Amsterdam for flash in the can at the end of February, and am looking for a way to call home from there (i live in the us). can anyone recommend a SIM card that will get me a decent amount of talk-time for minimal price? i will staying downtown and coming from Shipol Airport. Also, how much would the card be and how much talk-time would i get out of it?
You could try this http://www.tele06.nl/en/ in combination with a prepaid card.
I'd suggest t-mobile, if i am not mistaking its 10 euro's for the sim and gives you 15 euro's of prepaid.
Calling numbers in the netherlands is 35 eurocents a minute.
Calling to the US is 1,25 a minute if rates didnt change. (thats not using the tele06) and if i am not mistaking that is still the cheapest since t-mobile is rather big in the US.
I am not sure how tele06.nl works, never used it.. but sounds intresting.
Havent used prepaid in ages, so if anyone is able to double check these
Wait Wait.. did some double checking o_0
t-mobile to Amerika is 50 cents p/m...
even cheaper *chuckles*
HiPrepaid to Amerika: 1,75 p/m (as far as i can tell, website is extreemly unclear about this)
Vodafone prepaid to Amerika: 0,75 p/m

So, looking at this, the plan i should select is SIM-ONLY? Also, where do i purchase it? here or there?
The best thing you could do is just buy a sim card in a localstore in Amsterdam. There are plenty of shops who sells prepaid simcards. Like Belcompany, T for Telecom, Phonehouse, Vodafone Store ect.
Only thing you need is a simlock free cellphone. Which works on 1800/900mhz frequency (USA uses 1900/800)
Most of them cost around 10-15 euro's and usually also included some credit to make calls. You can call local and international with these cards. But be aware calling international via a prepaid card is very expensive. That means you will run out of credit very quick. Upside though is that you have total control over your callcosts. Once you run out of credit, just go back to the store and buy new credit through a 'opwaardeerkaart' basicly a card containing a code to call which gives you new credit. You could buy it online through a website, but my advise would be to just buy it in a store. There the can also help you with problems you might run into.
This way you won't get anny unpleasant phonebill's when you get back home.
Have fun in The Netherlands.
Cya
Like nyx said just get the card when you are over here. I do beleive you can get your simcard at Schiphol nowadays as well. That way you can walk out of the airport with the phone working.
T-mobile is the best option at the moment in NL. Have fun when you are over here!
Hi everyone
I was looking for a new Android Phone and was shocked when i saw the price for the Atrix 2. It seems to be a great phone for little money so i decided to buy it, if it works here in Germany.
So my question is: Can i use an unlocked AT&T Atrix 2 in Germany with all features like Edge and 3G?
My second question is: I had an Atrix 4G a few months ago. Great phone but it got incredible hot after a few minutes of using. Is it the same with the Atrix 2?
Thanks in advance and greetings from Germany ;-)
I don't know about the edge or 3g being available. But my ATRIX 2 never overheats. Its always been a good, reliable phone. Glad to see u got one welcome! And enjoy your A2. I hope u like it as much as we all do!
Welcome!
ATRIX 2 / Victory Rom
Hi tengaar.

EDGE availability should work, but I cant say anything for sure about 3G. My Atrix 2 tends to heat up after extended use but nothing that bad...
Sent from my MB865 using XDA
After unlocking, it will become a global version
My A2 never gets too hot, maximum 38°C after hours gaming or torture haha (my country' temp is about 24 to 32°)
Edge, gprs and 3g (although the icon is 4g) are works.
I bought an unlocked atrix2 from here and i live in indonesia.
First time i use this phone it feels hot,but after pull push battery and reboot,it never came again.
It feels hot when you play games for hours, especially online games (on 3g) ,but the temperature and battery is still better than sgs2 (tested with my friend's sgs2).

I too had the Atrix 4G and it would occasionally overheat. My A2 will get warm when under stress, but even though it's overclocked it never overheats.
I'm using my unlocked, AT&T branded Atrix 2 (MB865) in Switzerland and I even have 4G connectivity with my provider (even though it's still in an experimental state with no real speed gains ) and other than there not being a german language available (not a big deal for me though) I have no issues whatsoever with the phone
You can check Atrix 2 hardware specs to confirm that it can works at your country. Mine performs full functions at Vietnam except 4G still in beta now.
You live in Germany and see that A2 is a "shocked price" phone because it included with USA AT&T contract. Price about ~$450-500 on grey market for unlocked one. So clearly it's not a bargain !
My unlocked A2 working fine on my local network (2100 MHz for 3G) and also on my recent business trip to Holland. I never had it overheated. Just pay attention - in doesn't have 900MHz band for 3G that maybe problem in some European networks.

I got mine off of ebay for 330 USD incl shipping to switzerland. That's a hell of a bargain considering equivalent phones in switzerland cost about 500 USD up...

I currently have the Atrix2 that I bought off contract with AT&T and will be moving to Germany. How do I get it "unlocked" so I can use it there?

Att has confirmed that they WILL GIVE you the code during the same phone call on or after april 16th. You call and tell them you purchased a device and need the unlock code and they will give it to you. They say it will be available on or after april 16 next week. . You dont even need to be a customer. This came directly from att themselves. Best part. .ITS FREE!!!!
Edit: and yes, im talking about our atrix 2. Lol. And yes i will be unlocking mine just to raise the value. And yes they will give you 2 codes incase of future updates. Lol. Hope i cleared anything questions up.

Mobile Phones are very expensive here in Germany. You pay nearly 400$ for a used Atrix 1 here. And a phone with similar specs like the Atrix 2 could easily cost 600-700$...
But I could not find a single online shop in Europe, who sell the Atrix 2 and if I buy it in the USA or somewhere in Asia, its far less interesting because of the tax...

Hi people,
Not sure if anyone has experience with this but on the old continent we have providers per country. This means that if I travel about 60 to 300km I will be paying like crazy for 1MB of data (at least 0.7€ or like US $1).
Now these prices are insane I know and yes I once had the pleasure of owning a wm6.5 phone that liked roaming and cost me .... a lot for a week.
Now I will be in France (Mount Ventoux area) for 2 weeks in July in the middle of nowhere and I want to have 3G or at least some data coverage so I can be in contact with my parents (read XDA) etc.
Does someone , preferably some French person here have any possibilities to find out if there is something like a prepaid card with data?
Thx in advance!

Bump
Do you have any information on / references / links to early order bundles?
I was able to order one at a German reseller (without any bundle information) but hoped that an addon could be ordered with a receipt as 2,5 years ago with the xz2 compact.
Some info on release dates here.
Those who pre-order Xperia 5 II by November 29 will get a gaming bundle worth over $400 including a gaming headset, a 10,000mAh power bank and 21,600 Call of Duty Mobile Points.

This deal might be in the US only, not sure, but the EU always gets some sort of bundle available.
Ordering at otto.de you can order free "»WF-1000XM3 True Noise Cancelling« wireless In-Ear-Kopfhörer" at: https://promo.sisc.de/gratispaket-sony-xperia-5-ii-wf100xm3-n313
I guess Poland only:
https://scentre.pl/shop/category/list?kategoria=xperia_5_ii
I got this from Sony:
(for Norway customers, but I guess you can change the country code "no-NO" in the adress bar)
https://www.estorepartner.com/no-NO/dr_product/sony-xperia-5-ii/
I have a pre-order with amazon.de which includes the free earphones deal. I think it involves a code provided with the phone that I enter on a dedicated website. Amazon.de is delivering to my home country Ireland (no dedicated estore for Ireland anymore).
Does anyone know (from previous experience with the 1 ii perhaps) how the promotion works? Will they only deliver to German postal addresses, do they require a German credit card number to validate residency or similar? Do they request the amazon invoice?
With the last promotions I needed to upload the invoice and some Metadata.
About the delivery to other countries:
"Teilnahmeberechtigt sind private Endkunden ab 18 Jahren sowie gewerbliche Endkunden, d.h. Selbständige mit Angabe einer Versandadresse in Deutschland, die ein Aktionsgerät bei einem teilnehmenden Händler in Deutschland erworben haben." (from more info in Amazon.de App)
Says, that the shipping address needs to be in Germany.

I can ship the headphones to an address in Germany no problem. But the phone itself will be delivered by Amazon to an Irish address, that might cause me a problem if they are checking the invoice.
Thanks for checking
As I understand it, that's no problem.
The phone just has to be purchased at the German Amazon, it's nothing sayd about limited delivery of the phone.
Honestly when reading it again the German shipping address might also apply to the mobile phone order.
German doesn't feel very deterministic there..
But maybe you can contact the Impressum address on this page and check with them: https://www.markenmehrwert.com/campaign/sonyxperiabundle/
Is there anyone offering the WF-1000XM3 earbuds that will ship to the US?
I'm in the Netherlands and got the cheap WBN 900 deal.
I cancelled my order with amazon.de as it seems more and more likely that I would not be able to get the earphones as part of the preorder offer. Instead I've used clove.co.uk which worked out a little cheaper and although they offer a different bundle (headphones) I think my chances of getting the deal are better.
So I can't find any info on there being anything other than one model of the phone, is the "UK model" different in terms of bands it supports than the models that will release in the USA?
*Edit* I read the bands, appears to all be good.
