Galileo or GNSS - Nexus 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Someone can tell me if with nougat rom on nexus 5 can you use galileo for location? Thanx!

No answer?

It looks like Qualcomm is giving software Updates and Support only for this SoC Snapdragon 427, 435, 617, 625, 626, 650, 652, 653,*820, 821 e 835, Wear 1100 and 820 Automotive.
So even if our Snap 800 and even the 808 have iZat8gen GPS chipset seems like they'll not be updated, surely when the updates will be delivered (Q3 2017) someone will have to work on it and bring a custom driver for the other devices.
We can have BeiDou and Glonass but they're old comparing to the new standards carried by Galileo!
Unluckily this is the market and it's based on built-in obsolescence and new features are shown only on the last flagships.

[Q] Is swapping out the Snapdragon CPU possible?

With the Nexus 6 announced, I was quite disappointed, as I was expecting Google to release an updated version of Nexus 5, just like they did with Nexus 7 back in 2013. I'm not a fan of phablets, and 6 inches seems too big for a phone, while Nexus 5 sure hit that sweet spot.
So I had this idea - would it be possible to replace the old existing Snapdragon 800 with 801/805? What about the new 808/810 models? Problems that come to my mind are:
Do the newer processors have the same pin layout as the 800 version? I managed to find information that the 801 is, but I'd like to know about 805 or even 808/810.
Do different Snapdragon 8** series processors use the same instruction-set? If not, are the newer versions backwards-compatible with old versions, like for example Intel's x86?
Would the Nexus 5 chipset be able to take advantage of a faster processor? I know ROMs with custom kernels allow overclocking up to 3 GHz, although that's just stupid. With a 805/808/810 though... Would it be as simple as getting for exapmle CyanogenMod, "overclocking" the 805 to 2.7 GHz (what it's actually rated at), and that would be the end of the story? Or am I missing something?
How hard would it be physically to replace the processor? I imagine a skilled engineer with a soldering station would be able to do the job, or are the connections so small that it's practically impossible to do by hand?
How does one obtain a stand-alone Snapdragon processor? I can't seem to find any on Amazon. Do they even sell retail, like Intel/AMD? If not, how do I get hold of one?
What else am I missing? How feasable is this idea really?

while just swapping out the cpu is most likely possible, if not extremely difficult. getting it to run on the nexus 5 would be nearly impossible. where are you going to get the drivers to make everything work? they need to be exactly for the nexus 5 and only for the nexus 5.

Does it need any drivers though? If the processor instruction set doesn't change, I don't see why any software changes would have to be made...
Sorry if I don't understand what I'm talking about, I'm a PC developer and know close to zero about android / snapdragon. I'm just thinking of it as if it was a soldered-in PC cpu with built-in graphics.

of course itll need drivers, its a completely different piece of hardware. youll need drivers for everything.
I think it's safe to say that it will probably never, ever happen.
You can't. It's a SoC meaning the CPU is integrated and can't be replaced
Project ARA will be the first phone able to swap core components

[Q] Moto G running in quad-core mode all the time on Android 5.1?

Yesterday Francisco Franco posted this where he says that on Android 5.1, the Nexus 6 is running all the time in quad-core mode. This is possible at kernel level. As far as I know all Moto G 2013 are quad-core too.
So, it´s possible that this can be adjusted also for Moto G when Motorola releases stock 5.1 or GPE 5.1? Or this is exclusive for the Nexus 6 processor?
Thanks in advance!
And it will it eat up the battery.No,thanks.

And our G has a very weak battery compared to that Semi-God Nexus 6... Our Snapdragon 400 will die if it runs in that mode!

Will Win 10 work on Mi4C?

I don't see why not, we have the Snapdragon 808, which is the minimum requirement for windows 10 mobile, and we have 3GB ram.
So it should work.
We'll have to wait and see.
This is my spare play phone, will be great to try win 10 on a phone. Brings back memories of my HTC HD2 days.

Windows 10 will run even on lumia 520 that is a far far cry from snapdragon 808 and 3 GB.

I don't think xiaomi will be making a rom for this device. Would be totally awesome if some dev could work a way around

To me it is actually weird it debuted on the Mi4 and not the Mi4C in the firdt place. The Mi4 is more than a year old and the Mi4c has more power and have just been released.
That said, I hope we'll see official Win10 from Xiaomi, as developer support for the Mi4c is weak and I doubt we'll see a port, even if it is a relatively easy one. (The NT kernel, relative similar hardware also from Xiaomi, and a Qualcomm SOC with source)

Windows 10 for Mi 4 (LTE version only)
I don't own a Mi 4, but I do very much wish to run Windows 10 on android..
Does anyone know of a way to flash a rom meant for one phone to another phone model with similar hardware? (edit: Upon further research, it appears the core components of my phone, the LG G4, are identical to that of the Mi 4. The differences in the G4 are only a larger screen, higher resolution, and higher MP cameras. The CPU, RAM, GPU, and chipset, are identical to the Mi 4, so I am tempted to simply flash this rom to the G4 directly. Slap my hand quick if this is a bad idea.)

The processor on the Mi4 is snapdragon 801. The one on G4 and Mi-4c is snapdragon 808. So yeah, it's a really bad idea you will surely brick your device... ?

Looks like z5 wont get support for vulkan api.
https://developer.qualcomm.com/software/adreno-gpu-sdk/gpu
Our gpu adreno 430 dont support that api.

The nexus 6p has the same gpu and supports vulkan
Yes i see that now.
Maybe qualcomm did google i special favor.

it supouse that snapdragon 810 support Vulkan... am i wrong?
Support Sony said that we will not have Vulkan API.
Perhaps in the future we will see support, but not the fact.
ow.ly/guHo308vgb9
People Adreno 430 supports Vulkan API on Nexus 6P, and this means that our smartphone also supports it. And there is firmware S. Team for HTC M9 which adds support for Vulkan.
I took out the Nexus 6P graphics driver but Vulkan doesn't work (OpenGL ES working).
Maybe someone knows how to enable support Vulkan API ?

Kirin 970 SoC Announced

Kirin 970 SoC Announced
Huawei just shared details about the new Kirin 970 chipset. As you know, the Honor 9 is equipped with the Kirin 960 and the performance on this phone is fantastic. So whats new with this new chip?
Internal tests show this performance capability allows the Kirin 970 to process 2005 images per minute, which is up from 97 images per minute without the NPU. The new chipset from Huawei is similar to the previous Kirin 960 but sporting higher frequencies, being an eight-core SoC with four being Cortex-A73 cores clocked at 2.40 GHz and the other four being Cortex-A53 cores clocked at 1.80 GHz. The GPU Huawei has chosen to go with is the newer ARM Mali-G72MP12, but the company has yet to announce its clock speed.
They did, however, confirm it will have a dual ISP, but again, didn’t go into detail about its performance. It will be equipped with the Kirin 970 Integrated LTE modem (a Category 18 modem) with download capabilities of 1.2Gbps. The last bit of information that was announced at IFA this year was that it would be built on a 10nm process from TSMC. The company normally has big press events for their new chips, and since that wasn’t the case at IFA, it is likely why they didn’t reveal any more details about it.
