Does the AT&T variant of the LG G4 support Qi wireless charging? I remember reading threads about it a while back, but I am unsure if the methods posted still work. I found a single thread from this year where a few people said an update disabled this feature on AT&T LG G4s. Does anyone know if this is true? If it is, what are my wireless charging options? If I am still able to use Qi, what is the best method to use so as to make my phone compatible with a wireless charging pad? Thank you for any and all assistance that can be provided in this matter.
I'm using the AT&T variant of the LG G4 (H810), and a cheap Chinese (eBay) Qi+NFC receiver "sticker", applied to my factory back cover. Removed the original NFC-only coil/sticker, and install the new Qi+NFC one. It works great with all of the various Qi charging docks that I have. (I haven't tested/used NFC since installing it., so I'm unable to confirm that NFC still works. I'm assuming it does.)
I have an early H810, (S/N 505..., "H/W: 1.0", and I'm on Android 5.1, LMY47D.

Not as tech savvy as most on this forum, so please excuse me if this is too basic. I have an AT&T model and understand that while LG baked in an FM radio and Qi charging, AT&T, in their typical way, disabled both. Would rooting my phone allow me to get back these functions? I really wanted the wireless charging cradle and disappointed it won't work with my phone. FM is nice, but less important. It would let me listen to music without data charges though. TIA

The only model that has the FM radio is the D855 European/International mode. As for the qi charging, this phone does not support it on the hardware level, however you can use power-mat via the quick-circle case from at&t. If you really want you can also remove the coil from the case and transplant it into your stock back cover to use wireless power-mat (PWA) wireless charging.
EDIT: I also put in a request to move this OP to the at&t G3 troubleshooting section.
Thanks for the info. I was under the impression the FM radio was still there, just disabled. Not really interested in a power mat since I like to have my screen at an angle I can see while it's charging. The Qi cradle seemed ideal for that.
Hi everyone,
I recently bought a used Nexus 5 from Glyde. Glyde requires purchasers to test the phone and let them know if it is in the condition the seller had advertised within 3 days. I had ordered an NFC tag that didn't arrive in time to test NFC before verifying that the phone was in excellent condition, which is how it was advertised. Everything else on the phone works flawlessly but, once the NFC tag arrived, I found that NFC doesn't work. I haven't tried wireless charging but am assuming that probably doesn't work either as the NFC and wireless charging are controlled by the same module on the motherboard. The model number of the controller is BCM20793M.
I tried a bit of troubleshooting. I took the phone apart, removed the NFC controller and had a look at the connection. All of the pins on the ribbon cable seem to be making contact with the pins in the socket on the mobo but still no NFC. I've done a factory reset and sideloaded Lollipop the day it was released. Unfortunately, NFC still doesn't work. I'm almost certain that it's just a defective controller. I called LG. Tech support had no idea what I was talking about when I asked for a replacement Broadcom NFC controller and referred me to the parts department. The parts department doesn't sell anything but batteries and chargers. They asked me to send my phone to them for 5-7 days. I'd like to avoid that. So, I set out on a search for one of these modules and can't find one anywhere. Does anyone know where I can find one of these for sale?
My wife also got a Nexus 5 and the NFC works. If it comes to it, I'll just swap the NFC controllers in mine and my wife's phone as she's told me she doesn't need NFC. If I can just buy a new controller and have two phones with working NFC, I'd rather go that route.
Thanks,
Matt
Hello everyone. I've been considering a purchase of the Nexus 9 and was disappointed to to read that it lacks Qi wireless charging built-in. I've found Qi to be a very useful feature for many of my Nexus devices, from my old Nexus 4 and 7 to the modern N6, so it seems odd for it to be omitted for the N9. Thus,, if I end up buying a N9, I'll be interested in adding Qi charging capability.
Qi charging receivers seem to come in two forms: those that use the external micro-USB connector on your device and those that don't. Those using the microUSB connector have the obvious drawback of "taking up" said connector as well as possible issues with the detection of wireless charging , so I'd ideally like to use one of the models that doesn't use the micro-USB plug. These models (such as some of those made for the Samsung Galaxy S4 and S5) are completely internal and interface with the battery via other connection points, typically residing under the back cover of the device. An example can be seen here - http://www.fonesalesman.com/collections/qi-wireless-receivers/products/s5-slimpwrcard . I am guessing the viability/ease of install for such a receiver is dependent on the device model, so I was wondering if anyone had performed a similar modification on their Nexus 9?
Any ideas? Thanks!
So the Samsung phones were designed this way so they could sell you a separate case to add wireless charging. So it was designed to add it easily... I've seen something like this added to a non Samsung phone but it required some soldering and I'm sure lots of skill. I agree with you that qi charging seriously should have been in the tablet. At the very least some form of quick charging. My least favorite part of the tablet.
I'm a big fan of wireless charging so I had to give an adapter a chance. I tried this adapter -
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074N38ZPX/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
- because an amazon review stated it worked on the Essential. Unfortunately the one I received did not work on my essential phone (tested with / without case). I also tested the adapter on my nexus 6P and it worked on that phone. I think I'm giving up on wireless charging the phone but wanted to put this out for anyone thinking about giving an adapter a chance.. I would try a different one.
First time creating a thread, but I have a OnePlus 8 UW running CRDroid 8.6 on Verizon. I have been loving the phone but am really missing wireless charging(I came from an s20 FE 5G). I found THIS video and am going to be attempting the Mod. And keeping this thread updated. Does anyone have any suggestions or experience in doing this mod or a similar one?
Modification successful.
Was relatively easy, soldered the the vbus+ section of the ribbon cable(4th pin). Phone is now able to wirelessly charge at 5w. Looking into at some point upgarding to higher wattage charging. Let me know if anyone has questions
Definitely something to consider when taking the phone apart anyway (eg replacing broken screen or battery).
I need to swap the USB C board on my 2XL, thank you for posting pictures, I'll give a go at it while it's opened up. Shouldn't be too different from the OP8
