Silence phone while wearing watch option - Samsung Gear S3

Is there an option for this in Gear Manager like on Android Wear? I just got an S3 for Christmas and I need this functionality for my job. I don't want to open it if there isn't an option like this. Any input will help. Thanks!

There are several ways to keep the watch silent. It can be put in Do Not Disturb mode. You can control notifications passed through from the phone. You can set the various volume levels to 0 or vibrate only.

Download SoundProfile app and use location tasks to set phone to silent or vibrate when gear s3 is connected by Bluetooth and normal when disconnected. Works great for me.

This guy wants to silence the phone ringing noise, from his watch on an incoming call.

I want the phone to not make a sound at all like on Android wear. When my G watch R is connected to my phone, my phone automatically mutes. It's a setting built into Android wear.

Put the phone in Do not Disturb mode. Or leave the phone in your locker/desk.

If the phone is in do not disturb mode the watch won't get notifications.

Then silence the phone. Don't assign sounds to notifications. Set all the volume levels to zero. I've never seen a phone that couldn't be setup to not emit sounds.

Doing all that defeats the purpose of having the option. I dont think you understand. Doing all that means I have to undo all of that when I don't have my watch on. Android wear is just smarter than tizen I guess. The watch will just go back!

OK, another option is to create a Tasker script to automate the process. Lastly, the Frontier LTE can operate when remotely connected to a phone, notifications pass thru even if the phone is miles away, if you're not suppose to have a phone, leave it behind and just wear the watch.
But if you don't see the usefulness of the S3, then by all means return it and spend the money on something you want.

Of course it will, at least with a Samsung phone. My S7 Edge is set for DND right now and I'm still getting email and text notifications, phone calls, and notifications from other apps. The phone doesn't make a sound.

Watch is gone now so I'll never know. Thanks for all the answers and advice. Mods you can delete the thread.

Old thread, but FWIW, Tasker is a really easy way to take care of this, as noted.
I do believe it SHOULD be part of the Gear S3/S2 capability to do this natively (choose which device to have audible notifications on when they are connected) but w/Tasker you can set up a couple of profiles/tasks in just a few minutes and have the same result. I've got Tasker Profiles for when my phone is connected to my cars/watch at the same time (max phone volume) and for when my phone is only connected to my watch (set phone to vibrate).
What I don't have is a way to set my Gear S3 to silent when the phone is set to max volume when in one of our cars...I can't control the watch volume settings from Tasker AFAIK. But that's only when I'm in my car so I can live w/that.

This option should be native to S3 since they have both LTE and non-LTE most Smartwatches are capable of doing this such as the Apple Watch and Android Wear its just Samsung's Tizen refused to implement it. Im pretty disappointed with this watch.

Is there any way you could share what you did in Tasker? I am looking for this feature, but not sure how to write it up.

I switched from Android Wear to Gear S3 as well and found no option for that even using tasker (just cannot find a sound profile in tasker that works for Samsung for total silence, only got "vibrate").
Finally, simply choose the silence stock profile in the drop-down Notification panel. Sure you need to resume it (can be done by tasker for this) but that's the life for Gear S3. Nothing to do with Tizen but developers from Samsung.

I understand what your wanting to do. i own a Huawei watch and in android wear there is a setting to silence calls, Notifications on the phone itself once set for either or both. and when you place the watch on your wrist the phone automatically stays silent and your watch vibrates or rings .. (what ever you have it set to do) i have mine set to vibrate. so no matter where i am or in a meeting i never have to worry about the phone sounding off. its a very nice smart feature. i have LTE S3 Classic due in today... I hope it can be done with that as well.

Its a shame its not a built in option. I agree with OP. I have no time or desire to learn how to use Tasker. I've tried before and just didn't get it.
Your last comment is unnecessary and not very helpful. We don't use devices in the same way so users look for solutions, especially where they exist elsewhere.

Reviving this post again. I just bought a Gear S3. I come from Apple's world: iPhone6s and Apple Watch 1. I switched to Samsung S7 Edge because I do think it is a better phone than the iPhone 6s, and I bought a Gear S3 because I really used my Apple Watch and, added to this, I prefer the Gear S3's design.
Anyway, I am VERY used to the fact that when I worn my Apple Watch, the iPhone got silenced (and not only silenced, actually the notifications only arrived to my watch if I remember well), and when I took off my Apple Watch, the iPhone was active again. That is a BASIC for a smartwatch in my opinion.
Well, I have read this thread, and many others, and I did the Tasker trick, but, correct me if I am wrong: it does not get even closer to the desired behaviour. I mean by this, the phone is muted if the watch is DISCONNECTED from the phone (BT wise) which is not what I want. I want the phone to be muted when the watch IS NOT WORN, but it is still connected (when you take off the Gear S3, it does not disconnect from the phone).
Did I miss something? Is it possible to do it with Tasker?
I cannot conceive that the guys from Samsung would not implement such a basic feature, I mean, come on: just detect the "worn" status (which they already do anyway for other purposes) and offer the option to mute the phone.....come on, you can do it guys

I think you all missed post #3.

I am using the soundprofile app and it works perfect! As soon as my watch connects to the phone via Bluetooth, the phone silences and for example, when I turn off the watch, the phone goes back to normal sound profile.
You can also use different sound profiles related to where you are (based on geo fencing). I am a fan of this app, works super!
Yes, it is absurd that we have to use a 3rd party app for this, but hey, at least it works.

Quiet Hours-like solution for Stock Z3?

I'm not at the point where I'm considering putting another ROM on my shiny (literally!) new Z3, but the biggest thing I miss from Slimroms is the apparent total lack of Quiet Hours or anything like it. (In case you don't know, it lets you prevent the phone from making a noise, vibrating, lighting up etc when an incoming text, phone call etc occurs). Apparently, when I'm sleeping I'm always one piece of spam, or an alert that someone's replied to one of my posts here, from being woken up. And i'm not desperate to mute my phone because then i'll miss (potentially) important phone calls.
How are you dealing with this?

there is lots of planner/tasker app in play store for you to manage almost everything you want
:good:
Does the Z3 have the "Smart Connect" app? If so there are automation options there. For example, you can set it to go to complete silent, start the alarm and clock app IF the phone is plugged in and it is between x and y hours.
Smart connect set new event based on time, set time start, volume off, vibrate off, set end time volume up, vibrate on.

Smart connect should work fine, but if you want choices I use Agent and it works great.

Just tried it, but it's no good because I can't silence notifications without silencing incoming phone calls at the same time. The app suggests what I want isn't possible without a custom rom.
Have a look at this absolute fantastic app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nightskeeper
This is the best quite hours solution in Play Store imo and should be exactly what you need. btw you can define whitelists and the app has an excellent emergency function: when someone calls e.g. more than three times in 5 minutes, the app lets the phone ring although quite hours are activated

Gear S2 notification issues??

I have a new Galaxy Gear s2 and the Note 4 for At&t....im not new to the smart watch scene and have set it up correctly.....I get about 50% of my notifications on my watch....I hear my phone notification for new email, and wait to get it on my watch and get nothing...but sometimes I do get the notification on my watch...its so erratic...sometimes I get them and sometimes I don't...is this normal? if so its annoying.

Make sure the option to ignore notifications while phone is awake is not selected. Can't remember exactly where I found it but that was my problem when I first got my watch.

settings are all correct....I'm really starting to hate this watch...
There is option called limited notification, untick that.
Make sure you have selected all apps that you need notification.
I had the watch for 4 days and reset it about three or four times but could never get the notifications to work like they should. I would get some and not get others. All the setting were right. I finally returned it today. Mine was from Verizon. I really loved the watch but the main reason I got it from Verizon was the speaker and to see notifications on my watch when I drive. I found myself having to look at my phone about as much as I looked at my watch.
That's weird, the notifications on my watch actually alert me before my phone does. If not before then they both alert me at the same time with my Note 5.
Sent from my SM-N920T using Tapatalk
I decided to go back to Verizon and try another watch and the second one is working near perfect. It has not missed a single notification, knock on wood. It seems the first one was bad. I should have know when I had to reset it almost immediately when the heart rate monitor and steps would not function. So far so good with the new one.
Hate to say but paired to my iphone I get all notifications without any problem, except that I lost bluetooth connection a few times.
I had some notification issues over the network. Make sure you setup notifications proper in both the Samsung Gear app and the app itself (ie email). To solve my notification issues over the network in remote connection mode I had to "reinstall" the Samsung gear app which also forced my watch to do a light reset. See my post over in Connection modes for more details.
To bump this up, I have the same problem. Slow notifications regularly, no notifications at all when the phone is charging. I have disabled the option to not show notifications when the phone is active and no change. It's the only grip I have with the watch
I get 98% of the notifications so no big deal for me,but the only app that I don't get notification on the watch is YouTube

Timers not working on non-samsung phones?

UPDATE: This appears to be a problem for watches connected with non-Samsung phones.
Had my S3 Frontier for 4 days now. The Samsung timer does not vibrate or alert when it finishes. I purchased another time app (CookingTimer by SRPOL) and it does not run in the background. So as it stands now, no timer app is available for the S3 that will run in the background and notify upon completion.
Would someone test your timer app and see if it alerts upon completion?
Ive used my timer and alarm alot with no issues. Beeps loud and vibrates. Maybe uninstall and install the samsung timer again?
Count down timer? I did a hard reset and installed the timer only. Still not working. Doesn't matter if on vibrate or sound turned on. Arrrg

I set the time, start it, then either leave the watch alone or I press the home button and do something else with the watch.
My watch sounds the alarm when the time is up & I dismiss it by swiping from left to right as directed on the screen.

I have the Frontier T-Mobile LTE and just tested the Samsung timer app at 1 minute intervals with vibration only and sound with vibration. Both worked just fine. I also have AOD turned off in the event that the watch would go into some sort of sleep mode. Would you happen to have some Bluetooth device connected to the watch, like headphones, where it would want to send the alert to those rather than the watch itself? I'm not sure if it would do that or not but an easy thing to look into.
Put it in flight mode and no change. Only connection is with my phone. Gear S2 works fine. S3 not so much. I am going to go to the AT&T store and try it on the demo watch. If it works there, I will request an exchange.
My Timer works just as it did on my Gear S2. The only thing I notice is everyone complaining about the Timer not working correctly is using a non-samsung phone. Must be an issue there.
I use the timer app from Samsung Galaxy Apps in the Gear Manager. Type timer in search. Its the first one in the list.
Works perfect in the background with vibration and sound.
I am going to try setting the watch up on my wife's Note 5. That should answer let me know if it is because I am using a non-samsung phone. I hate having to set it up from scratch again. Samsung pay is the part that is a pain in the butt. I will report back.
Well, crap. The timer works as designed when paired with the Note 5. I am reconnecting with my Axon 7 and going to cross my fingers. Seems really odd that the phone it is paired to would make a difference in a timer.
Restore does not work as advertised. No apps or watch faces were restored. Samsung pay had to be redone from scratch.
Timer back to not working.
I had to return my Note 7 and did not want a S7. I am holding out for the release of the S8 or Note 8. S7 was not worth the expense and I like to upgrade yearly.

Glad you figured it out, hopefully Samsung can fix this with the Gear app for other phones in the future. I'm sure they will because you're not the only one to report it according to a google search.
Happening on non-Samsung phone for me too.
Gear S3 timer not woring
Same results for me. Timer does not work when connected to my Oneplus 3, works perfectly when using S7. Sending SMS via S Voice fails as well with the OP3. (SMS service is not available)
Shame as I like the Gear 3 and the OP3 - not so much the S7 - the home button angers me!
Seems like they fixed the timer. The app was removed briefly yesterday, and it's working with my Nexus 6P.

General issues with S2

So here's my list:
1. Cannot set a reminder off the watch ala Google Reminder.
2. Heart rate and distance measurement is not accurate.
3. Vibration is weak and easily missed.
Things I like:
1. Still the best looking watch out there.
2. I can make my own faces.
3. Links to my phone for messages.
Just sayin'.
You can change vibration strength in gear settings
You can download the app (on gear) for set reminders, from app or s voice.
Tried it. Can't set date and doesn't sync with phone. It really needs to sync with Google Reminders. Thats a finished product.

I agree with you. There are't any way to set a reminder in the phone from the whatch.
The gear alarm app only set alarm in gear and also you can't set a date or any message!!!
The reminder app can set a date and a message, but only will rise a notification in the gear that is easy to be unattended, this is not an alarm.
Do you know, guys, any app to set an alarm with a message in the gear? And to set an alarm to the phone? Or set an alarm at the phone that alert you in the whatch? I have been looking for it without any result.
And yes, the vibration is week to attend an alarm, even when you set it to 'strong' and 'large'.

An app called My Tasks isn't perfect, probably but comes the closest. Once installed on both devices, tasks can be created on either, and will sync across them, and be displayed on both. Notification sounds can also be assigned.

I liked how my android wear watch interacted with google's "clock" app (esp alarms) on my phone. That's probably what I miss most after switching to the S2. The S2 is oblivious to events from that app. The best alternative I've found is Samsung's "clock" app (easy on a Samsung phone, otherwise ??). It's not as versatile as Google's but you can have multiple, labeled alarms that appear and can be dismissed/snoozed with the watch. For me it's good enough.

Honestly! Samsung needs to pay better attention to what customers say! I'm at the point in my contract of changing phones and that means watches! If they want to keep customers they better damn well get their act to tether on both customer service and support! Focus on what CUSTOMERS (those annoying people who pay your salary) want! There ARE other choices! !

Watch only mode.
I would be very interested to know how accurate the S3 would be in watch only mode.
Presumably, in watch only mode, the device would have no phone or network connection so would not be able to auto-update itself?
I thought the interval setting (e.g. Permanent) for pulse measurement is also included in Tizen 3? At least on Gear Sport and Fit2 Pro it's included.

I don't understand what new functionally the watch only mode brings. The S3 can be put in airplane mode. This turns off cellular, WiFi, and BT, thus making the watch an island unto itself. It's not completely dumb, apps not requiring connectivity still work (ie. stopwatch, HR monitor, calendar, S Pay) and previously inputted data is still available. In this mode, the battery will last for several days. The biggest drain will be the watch face.
BTW, auto updates can be turned off. It's a setting in the Gear Manager app.
we are still waiting tizen 3
IMHO we have to wait longer...
Not expect too "soon".
If we have luck then maybe as Xmas "gift" in late December.
Best Regards
I'm not launching nuclear missles or solving the national debt so most of the upgrades don't impact me. Mine does what I want it to do now and I'm afraid an "improvement" will screw up a good thing. A new OS is a risk just to get rid of the little clock on the top when I'm in Standalone.

In watch only mode, the watch can last for several weeks, not just several days.
unfortunately they forgot to mention a terrible new feature: notifications are instantly dismissed by the sleep gesture.
the watch has a "wake up" gesture which wakes the screen when you turn your wrist to look at it, but enabling it would already force the inverse on you as well.
turning your watch away from your face(or towards you while not in an upright standing position, which is why it's such a failure) will make it go back to sleep.
this was annoying enough before version 3, but now this will also dismiss notification pop-ups.
this means the watch now frequently keeps marking new notifications as read and dismissing them before I even get a chance to read them.
so I receive a notification, I turn my wrist to look at it, and I'm presented with my watchface with no notification or unread-marker.
so now whenever I receive a notification I have to rotate the bezel or swipe into the notification history to see the notification, when I should just be able to see it instantly.
I was under the 2.3.2.4 version. I am to go under the 2.3.2.3 version and the miracle the update 3.0.0.1 came fast in case for information
Not yet rollout to my s3. Just curious If the whatsapp notification issue is fixed or not.

UA Record issue with Tizen 3
It also broke UA Record app. After update UA started, pause button worked (used for my rest between set of exercises performed in gym) but when I tried to use Resume button - application stopped and I had back again my watchface. No exercises recorded. So I decided to reinstall app and what? App is freeezing on it's start screen and after few minutes I have ma watchface back again. Till now it was the only app used by my so often and now it's a sh...t. Does anytime Samsung have to spoil good working things?
Update. Wow. today is working. However another issue - I tried to add new widget in a Quick panel and what? I have message "Installing ... " since two hours and nothing more
watch is lagging after 3.0.0.1 update, any fix coming
