If you have twrp, you can flash directly the updates packages via honor site..but for now they are releasing beta version of nougat...so its better to wait till huawei released an official nougat.

Will I lose TWRP?

To get updates extract stock recovery remove root and make sure you haven't deleted or edited stock apps or files

Still get OTAs while having ROOT?

If I root the latest stock 4.4.2, will I still be able to get future OTA Updates without braking the root or custom recovery, well if root gets lost I can always root it again. Just asking, maybe I won't be able to get OTA Updates at all after rooting but I don't know so that's why I'm asking it here.

The OTA will download but not install. You need stock recovery AND any system file that is updated by the OTA needs to be stock as well otherwise OTA install will fail.
Plenty of threads on XDA speak of this.
If you look at the OTA updater file you will see if uses MD5 (or similar) to check each system file it updates to make sure its as it was originally.
When you root it alters some system files.
Best thing is to install custom recovery and take a backup before rooted. Then root. When you get an OTA just restore backup and flash stock recovery. Then OTA will re-download. Let it install, then flash custom recovery and re-root.
Thanks, well I'll just stay unrooted and make the best out of it, the Moto G is just as amazing as Motorola developed it to be.
No stock recovery it's no need. I updated last ota with Philz recovery without problems.

Do you mean you downloaded OTA and flashed manually via recovery. You can do that I agree, but what you can't do is let OTA install naturally the way Motorola intended.
No. I had Philz recovery. System stock partition. Downloaded ota normally, reboot like ota update ask, phone reboots in philz recovery and this last flash ota automatically without any problem. There is not need to reflash stock recovery or flash ota update manually with custom rec, only need a non root stock system partition. I dont know if stock cwm or other rec like twrp work in same way but i doubt, always used only philz recovery.
You do not need stock recovery, I don't know who made this stupid rumour up. I use twrp and it flashes fine.

[?] Flash 23.1.A.1.28 OTA on rooted Z3 ? [SOLVED]

Hi all,
I have a rooted Z3 with dual recovery and locked bootloader running firmware 23.1.A.0.690.
Since the OTA to firmware 23.1.A.1.28 is minor, I was wondering if it is possible to flash an update zip file while keeping root and modified recovery.
any idea ?
thanks

Modified bootloader? Do you mean unlocked? If so then you cannot do OTA, is says so explicitly on the Sony site about unlocked bootloaders. But you can make a backup in recovery, flash a stock FTF of that version (System only) then just flash back your custom kernel (Before booting the phone) and restore data from a backup
If you mean locked bootloader then you can OTA, if its a small update then the chances are it wont format system so you will keep root, but if its a large file the chances are it will format system then re-install it so you will lose root.
Just flash a pre-rooted version of the updated ROM in recovery
Sorry, i meant keeping root and modified recovery (not bootloader).
My bootloader is locked indeed and i am on stock kernel.
So, to your point, i should be safe upgrading minor OTAs?
If so can I anticipate sony's rollout of the OTA and flash the update zip? And where can it be found?
Thx

Maybe.... it all depends on whether or not the OTA formats system and reinstalls it. If it a minor update they may not do that so root and recovery (Which is in system for locked bootloaders) are not deleted.
Its a gamble...
to be 100% safe, you will need to get a prerooted flashable zip and flash it
Hmmm... Ok, but upgrading with a prerooted zip involves flashing a full rom not just the update right?
I am ok with that but would rather save the hassle.
Thanks for the advise
Hi,
Happy to report back that OTA process went smooth.
I am now running 23.1.A.1.28 and still have full root & dual recovery!

Sorry friend but it was not clear to me... you updated via OTA and keep the root?
Yes that's right. I fixed the typo in my last post.

How do you do it? I mean, you were stock .690 berofe ota?you delete anything of stocks apps??because i test to do the ota update but at the end of processus it's says "verrification impossible" and i saw somewhere that's if we touch or delete stock apps we can't ota ....ans if possible, nobody van do a flashable ZIP with just ota update????
I was stock indeed, and you are right playing with system apps probably prevent OTAs.
That's why I deactivate system apps rather then delete them.
I guess you will have to do a full rom flash.
I'm on stock ROM rooted. Updated to. 28 via OTA just only. Root access still available!!

Applying system update 1.27.401.5 to my rooted HTC U11

I'm using a rooted HTC U11 with the latest TWRP and Magisk. Since yesterday I get a message that tells me to upgrade my HTC U11 to version 1.27.401.5. I can't install the downloaded ota so I need a complete rom. Where can I find that?
Maybe next door
Too much info error... So it's possible to flash an OTA over my rooted stock rom using TWRP?
Since the OTA is already downloaded to /data/data/com.htc.updater/files can I just copy it to the root folder and then flash it with TWRP?

No, TWRP cannot handle an OTA completely. You have to reflash stock recovery.
And even if you reflash stock recovery the OTA could fail to apply.
Have you modified your system partition after rooting? Any mods that install to system instead of data?
If you have modified the system partition the OTA won't apply. You have to reset to stock, i.e. by using an RUU

I'm still on the stock rom with TWRP as recovery. Afaik I didn't use any mods that install to system instead of data.
I just want to install the current version 1.27.401.5. If that's not possible by OTA then a full rom would also be welcome.

reflashing stock recovery
deinstalling Magisk

No you need to flash it white stock recovery
@magicozero
Do you have the ze552kl or the ze520? I can try to do it for the ze552 since I have that model.
@Rasque
If you can flash with stock recovery, you can flash with twrp. It has been discussed many times, and I flashed Oreo with twrp so I am speaking from personal experience.

what do you mean by "put room"? If you don't want to unlock your boot loader, you can still flash the stock unmodified rom through stock recovery.
If you don't want to unlock, you can try booting (not flashing) twrp through fastboot and then flash magisk. I've never tried it so I'm not sure if it'll work.

Yes, you can flash it with twrp. Edit the updater script, it works fine. I don't think I've ever used the stock recovery to flash anything, went straight to twrp and never looked back.

Yes, you can. No need to edit script or anything but before reboot you need to flash magisk or it wont boot.
You don't need any kind of recovery to install this update. Just download the rom file from asus website, put it in the main folder of your zenfone3 (remember the main folder, not the downloads. if you download the update from your phone it will directly go to downloads folder, so you have to move the update file to main folder) and in couple of seconds you will get a notification that says new update found. And it will update itself. You don't have to flash anything with any kind of recovery.
Only thing to pay attention is when you are downloading the update from official website which is HERE choose the World Wide (WW) version.

Firmware MIUI 8.8.30 for XIAOMI Mi5

Yesterday XIAOMI Mi5 has get a new update.
About TWRP aborts the update, because firmware MIUI 8.8.30 is required as a minimum requirement.
However, I find these not to download - does anyone have a link?
Regards & Thanks
Same here, does anyone can provide the download link ? Thank you
same here and the last update that worked has some bugs.
Apps crashing, battery drains etc.
Was hoping the new update would have fixed these issues but alas
I cannot get TWRP to flash giving the same error about MIUI 8.8.30

This is to all of you, you can't apply stock OTA updates on rooted devices or devices that have TWRP installed. Stock OTA updates require an unmodified system partition(meaning no root, no Xposed, no root mods of any kind).
OTA updates also require stock recovery, not TWRP.
You can all try flashing any stock firmware for your device then wait for the update notification then try the update process.
To those of you that have TWRP installed, this is a good example of why it is so important to create a nandroid backup of your stock ROM before you modify anything on the device. If you had that nandroid backup, you could restore the backup, then flash a copy of your stock recovery, then unroot the device, then wait for the update notification, then you'd be able to apply the current update. Then after applying the update, root the device again and flash TWRP again, then create a new nandroid backup of the updated stock ROM and delete the older backup from before the update.

I am running Lineage OS 15.1 when it applies the nightly update I get this error.
So what you are saying is they updated to MIUI 10 which as what I can see updates to MIUI 8.8.30 which includes new code
that TWRP and Lineage cannot install over. Also there is this Xiaomi's anti rollback that is installed as well so I am guessing
either live with the last Lineage OS update or install stock MIUI and call it day.

Oh, you mean a nightly update of LOS?
Maybe the MIUI update contained a bootloader update and the new builds of LOS were built to work with the new bootloader?

Interesting I encountered the same problem. Lineage Cannont update because 8.8.30 stock ROM Miui is required.
Simply download latest available miui firmware. Via TWRP install it and then immediately install latest LineageOS.
Here is the link to the new MIUI
