[Completed] Equalizer making music sound robotic / doubling? - XDA Assist

I'm not sure why, but when I try to use equalizer for music on my LG Vista, the music comes out all weird and it's annoying. Especially when I used to do this perfectly fine on my Motorola Droid X.
I'm not rooted, running android 5.1. yes I've tried different music players. I use both .flac and .mp3, most of it all 320kbps. In the best case scenario, my current music app will just not do anything when I play .mp3, and if I play .flac, the distortion returns, but if I quickly turn EQ off and back on, it actually works. But only for .flac...
I understand this is an odd and specific situation but idk where else to go. Thank you in advance.

PowerAmp [HELP]!

Can someone tell me why in PowerAmp there is a 'Folders' button and 'Library' button.
I'm pretty confused by the interface and the app itself and how to use the folders/library and which is for what and how it should be used.
All my songs I put on the phone appear in the 'Folders' menu, but none of those songs appear in the 'Library' which really seems to be more of a sensible place for them to appear because the Library has all songs, artists, playlists etc and seems to be the normal area for the app to store its music.
I have no idea how to get the music in there which is where I want it.
When I am playing a song it shows the artist and title and below it a folder path location? But why? It's like a path of where it is on the phone's SD card and the path of where it was on the computer. I don't need this information in the player view.
Also, I have to have my volume on max to hear anything decently despite being told PowerAmp helps the issue of the low media volume with the default audio player. (Sennheiser CX870s). Anyone know why/how to get the volume working more 'normally'? (Desire HD)
Any tips are appreciated.
Any other good music player app suggestions are appreciated.
Never encountered this with the default music player (where the audio is not loud enough).
I use the full version of Power Amp (no difference from trial) and it works great for me because I find the stock music player sorely lacking, leaving a lot to be desired.
You could try messing with the equalizer, I don't have my phone on my person at the moment so my advice isn't as solid as I'd like...
Have you tried another music player such as DoubleTwist?
(look up on market place; i can't post links yet )
I use a pair of $50 Sony MDR EX85LP earbuds, they're great for the price and on my Droid X they are plenty loud for my tastes, could it possibly be the earbuds or specific piece of music you are listening to?
If what I mentioned doesn't help my last piece of advice would be to try and find some sort of digital amp that would amplify your music, or an actual pocket amp.
Sorry I forgot to say the volume issues is regarding the HTC Desire HD.
Thanks mithikx I'll check out DoubleTwist.
Anyone else who can answer my OP questions, that would be great
PowerAMP has both features for, well, convenience. A lot of people who're really into their music like to organise it themselves, with a folder structure of their choosing - eg. they might have it separated by genres, or by what mood the music reminds them of, or what place they like to play the music in. The 'Folders' tab gives you the same actual folder structure as is on the SD card, I find it quite handy myself, it makes a lot more sense to me because I can specify the structure any way I choose, much easier than making playlists.
The library, on the other hand, is just like PowerAMP tells you when you first tab to it - it's the default Android media library, and is managed by Android, not PowerAMP. It's the traditional media player structure, and sounds like that's what works best for you. If files aren't showing up in the library, you need to get the default Sense media player (Assuming you're on a stock DHD build) to scan that music, because in theory it shouldn't be showing up in the Sense player if it's not in the PowerAMP library. Try restarting the phone, unmounting/remounting the SD card, or downloading a widget that lets you trigger a media scan.
As for the volume, have you tried boosting the 'pre-amp' in the PowerAMP equalizer? The only other media player I'd recommend would be Winamp, don't like DoubleTwist myself.
Hope this helps.
Hi
I really do like powerAmp a lot. Specially the folder option, since I can play the music in the exactly order I put in the memory without needing to create a playlist. I tried the trial version an I was about to buy it , but then I found the SRS enhancement option on the default HTC Desire HD player and I really like how the music sounds with that option.
Does somebody know if this feature is or would be available on a future version of poweramp? Are these SRS enhancement and the other option Dolby mobile just digital equialization settings that maybe can be reproduce on the poweramp amplifier, or there is something more that is done by hardware or only possible to be done by HTC?

I don't see it happening honestly. SRS Labs licenses their technologies, which would make PowerAMP more expensive than it already is. You can probably mess around with the EQ to make the sound similar to SRS I bet.

Low freq. distortion with Sense Music Player

Has anyone noticed low frequency distortion when playing MP3s (and perhaps other audio formats) in the Sense Music Player? It's subtle, but definitely there. It's more noticeable in music with lots of bass. I know it's the Sense Music Player's fault because PowerAMP sounds just fine playing the exact same MP3s. Since SRS WOW can only be enabled in the Sense Music Player, that's the one I want to use. PowerAMP's equalizer, despite what people may say, is garbage. Aside from the low frequency distortion, the Sense Music Player sounds way better than PowerAMP when SRS is enabled.
The distortion I'm talking about doesn't seem to interfere much with the actual music quality. It's just an annoying, low-pitched popping noise that you can hear in the background so to speak. I hear the sound regardless of whether SRS is enabled or not. The equalizer can be on or off too. It's even there when listening to music via Bluetooth A2DP. I have several high quality headphones and the distortion effect is present in all of them.
I've tried several different ROMs and kernels (including the stock) and the issue has been present in all of them. Has anyone had the same experience? To be clear, I'm not looking for advice on what to use besides the Sense Music Player to avoid this issue. I've tried them all and they're all garbage. The Sense Music Player with SRS WOW enabled is the closest thing to my HD2 with the SRS WOW HD software audio driver. The HD2 (running WinMo 6.5.3) sounds better than any portable music player I've ever heard. You have to know what equalizer settings to use in the SRS control panel for the type of music you're listening to, of course. I just want to see if others can confirm my findings. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
I find the sense player to be almost worthless, particularly in dock mode. Is suggest go.do.g another player.

You must not have read my entire post. I specifically said that I'm not looking for someone to recommend using another music player. I am concerned about the sound quality. I know of no other music player that can take advantage of SRS WOW capabilities of this phone. Aside from the distortion I described, the sound quality of the Sense player is better than anything else available.
I have noticed weird pops too when I'm using Pandora

TB for Music...

So after some testing I really like using my Thunderbolt for Pandora, but not too sure about trading it out for my ipod...the ipod seems to give better output, as I have to crank it up to about 50 to match a volume level of 38-40 on my ipod. Even at that the vocals are struggling and the bass seems to drown it out a bit even with the bass turned all the way down. This may not be a TB issue but maybe a player issue (I use Poweramp Unlocked version). While Poweramp is nice its not exceptional. At this point I am not sure what to do as I would like to use Google Music instead of iTunes, but I am not sure if its ipod compatible or how big of a hassle is. I am hoping a really nice music player will come out soon...what do you guys think?
I was very unhappy with the default music player.
I would suggest getting doubleTwist, I find it to be waaaaay better than the default. And after you try out the free version, I would HIGHLY recommend getting the paid version with AirSync. It offers an iTunes like interface that can wirelessly (and pretty amazingly and bug free) sync music to your phone over your wifi network.

I was very very interested in this, and now that you mention it I will try it out. The reason I didn't try it was because of all the bad comments on it in the market, but those are always a bit hard to trust anyways, I will definitely give it a shot
I'm a music geek. I have to have all of my music in 320 mp3 or lossless. And I hqvent experienced low quality with poweramp and volume plus. Just make sure you have the eq off.

Give Google Music a try. It's spectacular! I uploaded 6,000+ songs from my iTunes library and now listen (with excellent quality) on my TB. Important note: I uploaded the songs from my Music folder not my iPod. I have not tried uploading from an iPod, although that is offered as an option in the Google Music Manager. Let us know how it works.

Tried google music but 225 of my songs weren't transferred for some DRM problem, even though they are all paid for music. It looks like I will be going back to my ipod. The sound quality is just no where near my ipod when it comes to car stereo. Still turning my music a good 15+ up than with my ipod. Also, for some reason after about 20 minutes of listening the music just suddenly gets quieter...this is a huge problem and I have no idea what it is

Dev needs help getting Speaker Boost working

I have mixed reviews from Galaxy Note users about my free Speaker Boost app (source code is here). The app is supposed to boost media volume (in the usual way, by using the Equalizer API). Most reviewers say it doesn't work, but one says it works.
I'd like to get to the bottom of this. To that end, I'm posting here. If anybody wants to try it (heeding all the warnings; if you use Speaker Boost at too loud a setting, you can bust a speaker--three or four reviews, for other devices, testify to this; my feeling is that it's safer for voice than music), I would appreciate reports.
If it works for some but not all people, maybe we can try to figure out what the differences are. If it works for nobody, I have another idea how to get it working, but I'll need help from users.
Working for me, Criskelo v8 & Speedmod Kernel 3-6 just incase it matters.
Is there anybody it doesn't work for?
It does not work on the Stock Music Player since it has its own equalizer presets but works on other players on ICS and I assume it will do the same on Gingerbread. The increase in sound is not that loud but this little boost is definitely nice.
Most sound boosting apps do not work on the stock music player. You should probably mention it on the description to avoid getting bad reviews.

Hey, you're right. On my Epic 4G Touch with 2.3.6, it also doesn't work in the stock music player (well, actually, I don't use Speaker Boost myself, but instead I use Earpiece, which has some additional functions, but it does the audio boost the same way). I've never used the stock music player before, actually (I never listen to music; I use sound boost for movies and audiobooks). Thanks for the hint that the stock music player's equalizer is overriding this. I think that at on some devices I can override the stock music player's equalizer by grabbing the session ID of the music player audio session from the log, and attaching an equalizer to it with higher priority than the music player's equalizer. I will experiment with that when I have some time.

Problems with audio playback

Hello,
I'm getting odd problems with audio playback on my OPO. Whether it be using audio through es file manager or play music. Sometimes the music cuts out midway through a song for no reason. Can only get it working be reopening the app and trying again. Anyone else?
No problems and haven't heard of anybody else having this problem.
Try another media player or a media file?

Its with most audio files so all mp3s I try it usually happens. I'm only using play music and es file music don't really wanna use poweramp or others as don't really like the way it looks ahwell I guess might flash a custom ROM soon anyway and I'll give it all a go on one I prefer.
I use poweramp and it works great, there are skins as well. Shuttle+ is another great music app, there's a free version available as well.
