Dev Support? - HTC One A9

Hey everyone! Basically I've gotten myself into a situation where I'll be jumping from device to device through work every few months, but sometimes my job will ask for the phone back early. I have a 10 right now, but there's no point in letting that collect dust. I figured I'd sell it and grab an A9 for those in between times. The dev community for this thing is sparse though, which is sad. Even if we could attract someone to port another rom down to us, that'd be an improvement! Anyone else willing to try and reach out/pledge some money to attract devs? I'd be able to do fifty dollars at first, more once a rom comes about!

Even though the A9 is a great device, the lack of popularity/interest in it has effectively killed it development-wise. Really, it's a miracle that we even have CM and s-off available.
That being said, we do have stock based and Cyanogenmod available, which most people seem to be satisfied with. Is there a specific rom that you'd like to see ported?
Really what I'd like to see is a custom kernel with uc/uv and oc support.

If he's on Sprint as his signature suggests there actually isn't even a CM device tree for the phone.

Good eye...I didn't catch that. Yea the Sprint variant is the black sheep of the A9 family.

WOW - this is NOT the tweet I wanted to read...

Kmobs just tweeted this: "So.... looks like I don't have a mytouch 4g anymore... ups says delivered... and there is nothing at my door. Fml"
No - I wish I could say I'm joking - but I'm not...
I wonder what the impact on us getting CM is going to be...
Kmobs already had a MT4G, so i am not really sure what UPS was delivering
He just posted an update, "Guys the mytouch I have now I bought full price and am going to remorse. Got it early to work on for you. the other was cheap and is gone."
Yeah, I'm a bit confused as well.

I bought a full price mytouch to work on (and then remorse) as my cheap one came from my friend. The cheap one was supposed to be delivered today but nothing came to my door. I have to return the mytouch I currently have in my possession to T-Mobile.
I'm going to contact UPS tomorrow.
I'd be willing to make a donation to help replace it - I don't have a lot but if it would help?
Thank you for the offer, but I really don't want to accept money. I plan on moving on when the Nexus S comes out so I do not feel it would be fair.
Looks like I'll be sending this phone back tomorrow. Seems this phone is not gonna get to much love from the devs.

This is exactly the kind of crap that's bringing these forums down. A handful of devs make stuff for a phone, and thousands of people follow. Nobody is willing to do anything for themselves anymore. So you're going to return your phone(which is a fantastic phone by the way), because somebody isn't going to make themes and there won't be a bajillion different roms available?
I first started with xda back in the day when I had my t-mobile SDA. I got ahold of an mda with a then unreleased WM6 rom from a microsoft mvp and I uploaded it to xda. I made a few windows mobile roms for myself and shared them in the forums. And I modified some apk's in the nexus one forums. I don't just 'know' how to do this stuff. I learned it because I wanted to. I didn't wait for somebody to give me what I want. I did it for myself, and then I shared.
This is how it used to be at xda. Now it's just 'gimme gimme gimme'.

It's not even that for me, it's more that daunting feeling that something newer and better will come out shortly and I might regret not having waited. I'm not saying the Nexus S will be better, but it's intriguing enough that part of me thinks I should at least give it a try. No harm in comparing right? That's how I decided between the G2 and MT4G and boy am I glad I didn't settle for the G2. I realize how unsustainable and dissatisfying this attitude is since there will always be something "bigger and better" right around the corner, just can't help it

I'm not at all pissed. I'm sad. I'm sad that a forum that was once full of people willing to contribute is now full of people that are 'too busy'. Last week, I worked just under 50 hours, painted my kitchen, replaced the counter-tops, installed a new sink, faucet, and garbage disposal, painted the cabinets, pulled the motor from my motorcycle, cleaned the gutters, raked and mowed my lawn(last time for the season), picked up my 3 girls every day(like I do every day), made dinner every night(wife doesn't get home til after 6)....and guess what? I STILL found time to pull apart rosie.apk and started modifying xml's because people are getting excited now that the mytouch is rooted and I wanted to contribute.
You are NOT too busy. I can assure you of that.
Well, for me, I'm gonna tough it out...

Ya I hear you there. I get like that sometimes. But mainly because I just like gadgets. I bought the nexus one while I was watching their press release. I pressed the refresh button in my browser until the order page went live.
I too got the g2 when it came out, while it was a great device, I found that I didn't need the keyboard, and the added thickness that comes with it. So I traded it in for the mytouch.
The problem with these devices is that they're not THAT different from each other. They all have this or that little feature, but it's all the same underlying hardware. 1ghz cpu, bunch of ram, hd recording...blah blah blah. It gets old after a while. If my company didn't take over my phone contract and pay for my upgrade, I would have gladly kept my nexus one. To this day, it's still my favorite phone. It's just so damn solid.
The mytouch is similar in form, but without all the metal of the nexus, it's just not the same. Anyways, I forgot the point I was trying to make, but we have to tell my girls this all the time "you get what you get, and you don't get upset". You picked that device for a reason, now ride that ***** 'til the wheels fall off!
just my 2 cents i personally feel if cyanogen isnt handling the rom for the phone it never seems to get done the right way look at the vibrant i still think devs will make roms for it no disrespect to anyone..

I'm thinking of starting to mod this device, just not sure where to start looking for information. I've never messed with it much before, it's been years since I've done any programming and I've pretty much forgotten everything. But, I'm always willing to learn new things
Kmobs had a working CM6 besides camera and a couple of other features on his MT4G... it should all get sorted out and we will get CM6. Instead of complaining and resorting to another phone because it was out earlier and has CM6 already... Why not actually contribute by helping trying to work and mod the phone you picked and for that reason.

Anyway i'm gonna go ahead and say thanks to the devs and anyone else who is going to contribute.
Anyone know how difficult it would be to port a Captivate Rom to th Infuse? They do have similar hardware.
If I may chime in, the quickest way I've seen to get dev's developing for your phone is to start a multi donation page where you amas funds (some may give 20 bucks each donator, etc) and then buy a couple of the devs the device and ship it to them. This is how the Nook got CM7 as well as many other devices.

please this is not true. assuming thing are easy to port from sgs is not a good way to go. there is a similar processor. and that's about all you can confirm. this phone has more ram, mhl hdmi support, new gps hardware, maybe a new radio, though it may be the same as in sgs4g which in it's self is hard enough to port anything beyond the apks and maybe the rom, new camera, a flash, new screen type, and posibly an new audio chip as some samsungs such as the galaxy player and sgs2 are using yamaha audio componants while the sgs line is wolfson.
you dont see ports to and from captivate to fascinate, or to sgs4g, or to the droid charge and those phones are more similar to the captivate than this is. this may have more in common with the galaxy tab than the captivate.
these are not minor differences but it may be posible to maybe port the framework over and apk's. it may be posible to use the whole rom but not the kernel. ports will be projects and maybe not a great idea other than maybe an aosp gingerbread or icecream sandwhich project.
I just got this phone as well and awaiting some development
Since I don't know Cyanogen, we'd need to talk to someone like "rhcp0112345" or "EugeneKay" to reach out to them....same for MIUI devs.
If we can get more people showing an interest to donate we can get this going.
See the below thread as a successful instance of this, I know it happened also for the captivate with cognition I think.

Ok I guess we've done enough talking i guess I'll start another thread later today to start accumulating a list of those who'd be willing to donate. If the list gets substantial, we'll reach out to the devs.
to be honest id rather it stay small. i would like 3-4 roms more than a couple dozen. and id like there to be better comunication between devs, intermediate users, and newbe's rather than the cluster [email protected] seen in some forums. when there are too many parties involved it gets to a point that lower level users stop learning and advanced users suddenly take on expectations from the comunity. id rather it stay small. we can get help when we need it but most of the stuff in the sgs forums that we wont see are not that significant in my oppinion. i got rid of the captivate and got this because i thought id know enough about it to get it like i want it and not be sucked into the rom frenzy while also being a contributing member of the board. im not saying im against bounties for your favorite devs to come over but id rather put up a bounty for a second phone for the devs that actually wanted to buy this phone.

Looking for a couple brave testers

So I just bought a Slide on eBay, but I wanna go ahead and get things started.
I can do most of the work I think right now before the phone (since it's Sense 3), but I'll need a few brave testers with ADB knowledge and who aren't afraid to flash things.
Somebody help this bro out, he does good work.
You should try this forum:

It seems like most of the people on here like our phones and want to root and rom them, while the people on the t-mobile forum want to complain and cry. I'm sure you'd have pretty good luck on there lowballing someone for their phone!
Got one on eBay a couple of minutes ago. See you guys on the other side . Thanks for the replies.
Sweet can't wait to see what you can do with this phone!
If you don't mind me asking, how much was it on eBay?
I currently have a MT3GS I bought from Craigslist awhile back - got a pretty good deal from someone who decided he'd rather have an iphone, it came with the original box and all the stuff.
Been debating on whether it was worth an update to a 4GS.

I've been one of the ones to dive in headfirst around here so i'll help as I can.
This week, and next, are gonna be real tight on time for me. I still have a few threads around here I have to update...and just can't get more then a few minutes in front of a terminal at a time.
When I get the chance to update my threads, I can sit here and have the phone installing (or whatever) while I do.
Glad to see another dev jumping into the pool here with the MT4GS - it's a sick piece of hardware.
Your list has made it incredibly easy to list out all the apps (I usually have to go through them one by one and try and figure everything out, usually takes 1-2 hours per phone )
Anyways, I can't test it as I don't have the phone yet but Bloater should be setup for it. At least for the apps and stuff. I'll have to add WiFi calling later.
Test it out and let me know what works and what doesn't. I tried not to include anything I wasn't sure about or anything that could be potentially harmful to remove.
If it doesn't recognize something as installed or uninstalled it just means my MD5s mismatch what it was expecting, easy fix.
Install it as a normal APK
I can new a lab rat if needed as I still haven't committed to this as a dd
Sent from my HTC Doubleshot using xda premium
I'll be willing to test!
Are any of you guys familiar with IRC? This may be easier to do everything there instead of posting back and fourth.
We could try #mt4gs @ freenode
Other than that, I may have my statusbar mods ported today. Just need to fix the resource IDs up I think. I'll need to have someone test.
I'm using Paul's deodex as a base for now since I couldn't find an RUU. So if anyone is running that, you'll just have to flash two files over to test if this works or not .

I'm not strange, I am sick and tired of wiping and installing some wanna be rom and have my tf101 reboot every single time the Wireless tries to startup. Testing is key when releasing something you hope others will use...and that is just not being done.
TeamEOS is not Roach2010...he only just starting developing with them. Until I seem a full on, tested, release from them with his Stamp of Approval. I won't believe it.
All the others are amateurs, noobs, and don't bother testing on every model or documenting the fact that they only tested on model a, model b, or model c.
I tried all of the AOSP roms yesterday and none of them had any issues with wifi. They all had excellent stability. But my TF is B70 sbk 1.

Develop your own then, or quit complaining. You flash these at your own risk, even a thoroughly tested ROM can brick your particular device..also, how do you think the devs TEST these on every device type? They release it here so WE can HELP by reporting bugs back to them and then they FIX them. ICS has been out for barely a month, and the STOCK ICS is full of bugs as it is, why do you expect devs who do it on their own time to be any better than Asus is when they are a corporation?? Wow that was a disrespectful post...

Thats super great and I am very happy for you. That doesn't help me. I have a B60, and none of them work on it. My main complaint is that none of the devs bother to report which models their rom is tested on.
They are such noobs that they just compile and release and claim the blanket "oh we are not responsible for .... " crap. When they are responsible when they don't document which models they have tested on. They are responsible when they don't give all possible information to people so they can make educated decisions.
This I am not responsible crap is just a way of saying I may or may not be a ****ty developer, and if you find out I suck...its not my problem.
Its no wonder so many people flock to XDA and other site and beg for donations...because they could never make it in the real world as a developer where making quality software was how they eat and pay bills.
I think XDA should vet any developer before just letting them on the forums to release whatever. Sorry, but with all the phone/tablets out there...the room for crappy devs is just growing. Now is the time to start qualifying people.
Anyway...who cares right. "Oh mine works" sorry yours doesn't!
So you expect all of the devs to have every available hardware versions of TF101? That's ridiculous. Maybe send them your TF if you want them to test their ROMs on it?
They do this for FREE. If the ROMs don't work for you, too bad. Not sure how you can complain about something that is completely free. No one is forcing you to use the ROMs.
Think this thread is just to create drama.........
If the op had a sensible case to argue then it would be interesting.
Like its been said before - i have a b40 and ive tried them all with no issues - so theres a 40 & 70 tried and tested........maybe porking the micro sd slot isnt doing your tf any favours.
Going to test out the ignore feature again bet it works as well.
Thread needs binned.......its even in the wrong sub section

Exactly. It's just a hobby for most developers, and none force you to use them. Get another tablet if you're seriously going to complain about the developers work you choose to use.
I've tried AOKP, CM9, Revolver, and Android Revolution, and other than flashing non-stock overclock kernels (which don't work with wifi, apparently) I've had no more problems than stock ICS (Sleep of Death, etc etc)
Also, where is OP's magic ROM that works on every version of the TF101, TF101G, and SL101??? I'd love to give it a shot!

First point, they are called 'recognized developers'. Don't download anything that isn't from a recognized developer..sounds like a failure on your part there..
Second point..crappy devs = every dev when they start. It's called a learning curve. This is where we learn. You want polished software, stick with a stock ROM. They have the money to put into PAYING developers to FIX EVERY SINGLE BUG before they release it, oh, and they also EMPLOY BUG TESTERS..
Get off your soapbox. And close this thread already..you are wrong, and being rude. XDA isn't for you, that's obvious. Stick with stock ROMs and you will be happy (LMAO).
So if youre so much better than all the current rom devs, why dont you cook up a completely bugfree rom, tested on all TF models, in your free time, without getting paid?
If asus themselves, who have the resources and hired coders, cant sort out the random reboot issue, why the hell do you expect a group of enthusiast, who code in their spare time mostly for fun, to magically sort it out?
Get down to earth and get a grip on how coding works before flaming.
i normally wouldn't bother giving such post a thought. but its ridiculous to be complaining about something you are getting for free. these devs put in TIME and EFFORT to make something. SO what if there are bugs here and there. almost every piece of software out there has bugs. even the paid ones. And its certainly not an easy task to test every combination of a software.
Yes it can be frustrating having a ROM give you so many issues. But unless you are going to hire them as your personal programmer dont complain. or maybe give up some of your own time to read through their source code and help find the bugs.
XDA is a forum where people HELP one another. We know what it means to have an OPEN environment. We should be appreciative that there are devs willing to make ROMs for our devices and SHARING it with everyone.
off course your solution is to sell your TF and get an iCrap

I don't care what kind of flaming I get from this, but I am just sick and tired of taking a chance on the current list of developers for the TF101 only to find that my pad ends up in a continuous boot loop with constant Wireless module issues.
I think that if you haven't tested your rom on every possible model of transformer that you should note that, and make it very clear that anyone with a model not tested should take caution.
Yes..I am talking to you sportstart89, ricardopvz, teameos, timbit123, and whoever else thinks that by just compiling a rom, adding Superuser is all it takes to make it in this scene.

Yeah, and we all know how stable YOUR ROM is, huh? Oh wait, you haven't released a ROM, have you??
Hmm, there is a thought- create the 'perfect' ROM yourself if it's so easy!
Unbelievable.... I cannot believe how un-appreciative and immature some of the people are around here!

I have tried all of them on my B60 transformer...and every last one of them has a crashing Wireless with constant reboot loop.
THE ONLY ROM THAT IS STABLE ON MY PAD IS STOCK WITH VIPERMOD ROOT.

Hi there I own a B60 and have 3 different roms that will work on it and 1 that has no reboots at all also found an oc kernel that is playing nicely for now.
You can't put issues down to what model you have if the same car is manufactured 5 years in a row not to much is gonna change and base parts can usually be swapped.
I mean I have the same model as you but I may just be able to tweak a rom to work on mine where on yours it has issues or visa versa.
You seem to forget that icys is new and that even completely stock TF101 icys has issues at the moment. I think if anything the devs here are trying to find solutions and actively working quicker than the Asus company themselves also they dont have to go through all the stuff Asus has to to get an update out. Most of the devs here have done great work and have continued to support and develop from honeycomb they could of just left when icys arrived. I mean some are new but a few are not and are well respected.
1st You have a B60 tried a clean NVflash ?
2nd With your wireless are you using the right kernel on the right Rom? Are you doing things correctly?
3rd If its just compile and done do you think cm9 would be making progress?? Do you think modified stock would be as quick or have etc?
4th Kernels are not exactly an easy thing to build or improve on so you cant expect rock solid with everything at the moment its to early!!!!!!
5th Most of these guys have day jobs or university the fact they even do this is huge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think maybe you should calm down have a rethink and suss it out or ask for help or maybe move away from custom and rethink what hardware/software you want to use
Sorry for the long post guys but had to answer such an insulting set of comments

Hah everyone and their mom taking a shot at the OP because he made it just too easy and irresistible. This could be a very subtle troll.
This is just rude and obnoxious!
This is basically a devoper site. They make it, you test it.
And get your facts straight! There's an issue in the kernel that not everyone experiences. The source is out and people are trying to pin down the reboot issues.
If ya don't like to test and contribute to finding the issue, then go to some other site and whine there. Make your own damn kernel from the source and find the issue yourself!

Blasting people who do what you are seemingly unable to do is wrong, and does not belong at XDA. We exist for the developers, and if you don't want to provide a decent amount of respect, you can leave.

Ubuntu for phone & Blaze?

So the big release is tomorrow for the Ubuntu for phone release for the GNexus and N4.... Anyone planning on porting this for us? I would really love to have Ubuntu on my phone as I can run my 3d printer software on my phone instead of buying another laptop for the garage. I am real excited about the Ubuntu phone though I wish we had a x86 cpu so we could run wine. Speaking of wine...... they are developing it for Android though it seems it is about a year away.
Would it be possible to create a dual boot Android/Ubuntu like the HD2 or are we too short on internal storage?
Wow, don't want much?? I am sure when it is released and we have a chance to see it we may be able to port it.. Until then enjoy what we have...
Oh count on a nice donation if we get Ubuntu working. Double that for a dual boot. I had Ubuntu on my old Glacier but I cant seem to get it to work well with the Blaze. I should of noted it wasnt a free request
Release date's were issued today
Images and open source code for the Touch Developer Preview of Ubuntu will be published on Thursday 21st February, supporting the Galaxy Nexus and Nexus 4 smartphones. But more important than the release of two pre-compiled images will be a mass of un-compiled code. On the same day that Nexus owners face an ‘Android of Shiny New Preview’ dilemma, the Ubuntu Phone source code will also be made available.
This ‘milestone’ will be significant for the Ubuntu Phone project as it will mark the first that developers can dive in to the code. As an open-source project, devs will able to fix, refine and add features, as well as port it to run on other devices
Great! Well my offer is still there, put me down for $20 at least for a decent working port for the first dev/team to do it. We got some great devs here, I know it wont take too long.
Honestly man, no one is going to care that you have a $20 sitting there waiting to maybe be thrown into a developer's donate box in the future. Fact of the matter is, people that do stuff for phones do it because they like to do it. Their little donation button has nothing to do with giving them incentive to do anything, it's that they would be willing to spend more time working on a device, but it really is much easier to do with the device in hand.
Then you have the simple obvious fact that porting things takes a lot of work...the donate buttons there are to help a dev recover costs, and as often jokingly said, "Buy them a beer"....that's about it.
Say what you will about the absurdity of asking if Ubuntu will be ported to the Blaze, before the OS is even available to anyone, but to say, "I got money, I got money, I got money!" probably just comes off as a little insulting.
Maybe insulting is a bit excessive, but annoying surely fits.

Dude, did you really just scold somebody for wanting to donate? Wow... Don't take it personal, but you should have let that one go. He didn't hurt or insult you or anyone for that matter. Let em spend his money where he wants. Now let's keep it clean and play nice.

Wow, man calm down. the money is just to show the developer how much they mean to community. To show the support or a way to build up hope for hard ideas to come to life. He's not waiving the money like he's trying to buy their work, just showing how much he cares.
On Friday, 22nd February we are going to take the wraps off the Ubuntu Touch Porting Guide, which will go into detail how Ubuntu Touch can be ported to other devices.
This will be a great way to get involved and get Ubuntu onto all kinds of devices.

Thanks Racing19969, I am very grateful for your enthusiasm to get this rolling. You have been such a big help here lately and I thank you a lot for it. Please PM me if you need a tester or any help. I'll make sure and send you some 3d printed stuff for your phone next month btw, do you have another phone besides the Blaze? I might be able to make something for it too....
Downloading source for ubuntu phone now ... porting guide is up and will hopefully have something to report by the end of the day... It's probably going to be an uphill battle as ubuntu phone is based off cm10.1 and we still do not have a working kernel for 10.1..

WOW holy crap you are fast! Its ok, I'm down to wait, I'm just happy someone was interested in the project. Also more good news today, my printer is set to arrive Monday or Tuesday which is about 4 weeks early!! I emailed Samsung but they wont provide me with a render of our phone I just started a new job so hopefully I have some extra time to model up our phone to put on thingiverse soon. If not I might look into hiring someone to model our phone so we can get some 3d printed accessories.
Good luck man... I hope you success

Here's some good news idk if it'll help racing but just read it maybe u can try to look at some other phones port and it'll help
!¡!¡!¡!¡!¡!PLEASE click THANKS if I helped!¡!¡!¡!¡!¡!¡!
If any others are interested all you have to do is go here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Devices to see what devices are being worked on..
porting information can be found here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
We are going to be stuck though until we can get a working kernel for cm10.1 as ubuntu for phone is based off of it...
Until then I have left this alone.. We really need a Kernel Dev here to figure out our issue.. I have been working on it for weeks trying to figure it out.
I know it has to do with the ramdisk and how 4.2.2 stores and looks at the files...

Even if the port was not very functional.
