Root 7.1.1 Verizon? - Google Pixel Questions & Answers

I'm on verizon 7.1.1 with an unlocked bootloader, is it possible to root this, or do I need to be on the previous version 7.1? Has anyone done this yet?

Now that you are unlocked it doesn't matter if it is VZ. So yes, the regular root methods work the same for all of us.

Downgrade HTC One X?

Does anyone know a method of downgrading the HTC One X to 1.85? I looked around hoping for an answer but nothing. Then I thought to myself (after having to download an ruu for my old vivid countless times) that I could just download the 1.85 RUU for the One X and run that. Unfortunatly that had failed. I'm wanting to root my One X but with it being 2.20, root capabilities have been eliminated. So, does anyone have a way of downgrading the phone? Results or not, Thanks.

Patience Luke. If you got to 2.20 before rooting you are effed for the moment, but sooner or later somebody will break it. Of you were already rooted and unlocked with a superCID you should be able to re rkotu

i'm about to break my F5 key waiting on this
I know this sounds dumb (it did to me too) but you can exchange your phone for a new one so you would then have 1.85. Thats what i did and now i'm happily running sense 4.1.

Yeah at AT&T.
Hopefully that someone has more success than the devs that have been trying to break the s-off barrier :/ I know it's not easy, and I sure appreciate the work that goes into it.

i just got out of an IRC chat with mike1986 (the creator of the rom you would be running if you have a tegra phone) and he said that nobody has this one xL phone. it's just us guys. the rest of the world got the quad core tegra that is unlocked to begin with. we would have to be lucky that of the few one xL users, one of them has the competency to hack the new OTA.. and i asked beaups if he could do it, and he hasn't found a way yet (he hacked the 1.85)
Hmm...that does sound kind of depressing. I'm kind of wondering if there is still anything we can do if we have unlocked bootloaders but no root. I really want to know more about how exploits are found and how the other hacks were discovered.
If you're bootloader is unlocked then you're ok. You can always push root via recovery.

I'm now flashing the Stock Rooted Odexed version of 2.20 from scottsroms.com. I wonder if I'm the only one who updated that previously had root and an unlocked bootloader and thinks their stuck. Again, thanks Gunny. I didn't know I could still do this!
Did you have to install the boot.img separately?
No. I started with a relocked bootloader. I unlocked the bootloader again with my unlock token, flashed the twrp img using fastboot and then just flashed the odexed stock rooted updated rom. Worked like a charm.
Ok thanks.
They put the system update on me before I left the store and I didn't notice until it was too late. I tried to exchange and they wouldn't do it, not even for a re-stocking fee. Hopefully I can find a store that will be more cooperative.

Can you please explain how to downgrade HOX with a stock RUU?
Many threads on this process but in order to downgrade hboot you need either s off or you need to use jet tool to downgrade. S off is alot easier process and there is a thread with step by step, if your hboot was recently updated ota it can't be downgraded at this time

Root, unlock, and s-off. If you took the JB update, there is no way to do it currently.

2.20 Root Status

I'm just wondering as to the status of gaining root access on the AT&T 2.20 update. I just bought my HOX via a third party, and it came with 2.20, so right now I'm SOL.
I know ETA's don't typically exist, but will creating a bounty help move this along?

Bump
Hopefully someone finds an exploit because I want to install a custom rom so badly!
:crying:
There's nothing to report. My gut feeling is we will need to be granted sanctioned bootloader unlock to get root again.

sorry I'm not so good with rooting. Does that mean that we need htc to let us unlock our bootloader so we can install a rooted android os?

Yes or someone needs to find a new exploit for the new 2.20 to allow root.

Yes. At the very least we need unlocked bootloader in order to install a custom recovery so we can install root.
I found this just a moment ago. I have no clue if these would work though.

Lol that rom is from one of our devs it's his website the rom is in the dev section its a rooted version of the update without the hboot. It does no good to anyone who took the ota that was locked and had no root prior to doing so.

I'm afraid I'm not as versed in Android phones as I am with Apple. It seems that Android is a bit more complex. Well, I tried to help, hehe.

If you have a retail outlet around you (i.e. Best Buy, etc.), you can do what I did. Return the new phone and buy one from old shelf stock. If they received it before August then it's guaranteed to have firmware of 1.85 or older.
This is really bad!
any news or updates about being able to root 2.20? I have a HOX on 2.20 and i'm wondering if I should just sell it or wait

As of now still no updates on when root will be achieved.

Is root required to unlock bootloader

I follow all root how to but fail due to permission denied error.
People say you can unlock bootloader without being rooted.
But all unlocking how to, state that phone must be rooted.
I have XL, 1.88.
Can anyone confirm that I can unlock bootloader without being root initially?
You have to be rooted. Sorry.

Not entirely true. You need to be rooted on AT&T, since BL unlock is not officially offered for us and we need to change the SuperCID.
Not sure if this is the case with SingTel. Most carriers are allowed to unlock their BL officially. If HTC offers the bootloader unlock for that carrier CID, you do not need root. And root is easily achieved after BL unlock (just install a custom recovery and flash SU).

Sorry. Unfamiliar with other carriers. Plus, I never saw the One X in the list on the dev site at all. Has it changed? Or, are you saying that some carriers don't lock the bootloader at all? I wonder why AT&T even cares about locking it down.
If your phone is NOT on AT&T, you can unlock the bootloader with HTCDev.com
That means you do NOT i repeat NOT need root.
Just choose "All other supported phones" in the list of phones.

To everyone else: The singtel phone has the tegra 3 chip, not ours

I'm waiting for my phone to fully charge, the unlock it thru HTCdev.
I will read thru how to flash TWRP recovery, I will let XDA know the results.

I lol'd at this. No offense taken. Actually, you are quite correct. I've been unhappy in general with AT&T, but not much of a choice is available. Glad we had that break-up of Ma Bell so long ago because of deregulation. Sounds like we need that again.

Are you sure? It is listed as a HTC One XL with LTE coverage and their firmware works on everyones S4 phones.
Where is your info coming from that the phone isnt a S4??
To add facts:
Singtel previously offers both: HTC one X and HTC one XL (LTE).
Now, I think Singtel only offers One XL.
Singtel 4G Network Just about 3 months old.
BTW, I successfully Unlock Bootloader and gain root upon Rom Flashed.
I encountered no trouble at all. And did the following:
. follow HTCdev literally
. flash TWRP recovery image using fast boot flash command
. flash custom rom zip file thru TWRP
=) +1 rooted HOXL

[Q] Unlocked Bootloader -> No OTA-Updates?

I've read in one Thread, that if my Bootloader is unlocked, i will not get any OTA-Updates anymore.
Is that true, has anyone experience with this or experienced it?
