Galaxy S6, random shut downs and reboots. - Galaxy S6 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So ever since i updated to 6.0.1 my Galaxy S6 have been shutting down and restarting randomly, happens about once a day by now. I have tried pretty much all the "solutions" posted around the web, clearing cache, doing a wipe etc. The phone have been in for repair 3 times now at the place i bought it at (3 Denmark), or well, its been send in 3 times, 1st time it came back and actually shut down while i was in the store, so they send it back in, but still had the same problems when i got it back. 3rd time it got send in i then get an email back from them saying the Knox counter is tripped and that they wont repair it unless i pay 400$ because the warranty is now void.
I have put off rooting and installing roms because of this, but could that in any way maybe help the problem? Which is also why im kinda confused that the knox counter was tripped.

Why don't you just flash the firmware through Odin and do a factory reset?

Not 100% sure what you mean? Its currently running stock firmware. I have hold off rooting and flashing due to all the problems, just to make sure i did not void the warranty, which then for some reason happend anyway.

Just flash the stock firmware again in Odin. It's not going to trip Knox. And it won't hurt to try this method to see if it fixes your reboot issue. Which is usually a kernel issue.

[Q] Skyrocket is lagging a few times a day

Hi so I have been dreading bothering anyone and I have tried many things but no success.
The issue: My phone all of a sudden gets super super slow during the day. Happens with or without my apps i like on my phone. If it happens while I am not using the phone I will not get any texts or any phone calls. I can sometimes unlock the screen but clicking on things it just lags to the max. Nothing Force Closes or anything but its just super slow. It gets so slow I have to hold the power button to shut it off and then restart it. This happens at least 2 times a day.
What I have: I have a stock Rom that was rooted using the easy root command on a Windows 7 Machine. I also have CWM installed and the features all work.
What I have tried: I have tried a few different things including using odin to root the phone. I have restored the stock recovery using odin and also wiped and re installed stock Rom with odin. the same thing is happening after all of that work. Its not an app that is doing it because I used a os monitor app and nothing is using the CPU 100% or anything.
I need help otherwise I am going to see if I can exchange it with AT&T but unfortunately trying to repair this thing I had to set off the counter 2 times so I don't know if that will prevent me from being able to do a exchange under warranty.
Freeze the bloatware. If that does not help flash a custom rom
Thank you for the quick response. I did freeze the bloatware and I did try TPC rom and the same exact thing happens.
Then i would exchange it if i was you.
Yea I think i am going to just worried about the flash counter being at 2 now. Right now there is still no way to reset it correct?
No no way to reset. But odin the stock tar. They wont even check the flash counter anyway. Atleast thats been the case for most people.

Go on eBay and purchase a USB JIG and it would reset it. It only cost about $2.00 USD but you would have to wait about a week since it ships from China...
That what happend to my phone too. I install CWM and root then phone get verry slow. I think there was bloatware so i install custom rom, but then bluetooth stop working and have some more issue with phone not responding. So i install stock and want to start from scrach, but after this i steel had some problem with bluetooth and incoming calls ( phone not pick them up ). I go to ATT store and replace for new one and with orginal software no problem at all for last 45 days. No root no CWM and no problem.. . I use samsung infuse 4G for all software games and works exelent on custom roms and all..

Apparently they aren't working at the moment with 2.3.5, you might want to look more into it.

[Q] Rebooting issues?

I have occasional reboots while the phone is sleeping (you have to re-enter your pin after it happened).
Reboot were occuring ~2 times a week.
I had root installed and I am thinking of sending it to warranty, so I re-flashed the original firmware and made a factory reset. I am not thinking that root or Ad-Block is causing this, but I don't want to have root installed when I send it.
I also read in a german forum that I am not alone with this. My firmware is I9103XWLA4_I9103DRELA1_I9103NELA1 (android 2.3.6 with Drei branding). (original Drei branded phone in Austria)
http://www.android-hilfe.de/samsung-galaxy-r-forum/208721-hilfe-galaxy-r-schaltet-sich-aus-ein.html
Does anybody else have any reboot issues? Pls also name firmware and if root is installed.
Thanks!
Yes some of our users (mostly indian as far as I remember) experienced random reboots. It usually ended up in service with motherboard's or device's replacement. That has nothing to do with root. Root is just an application located in system/app that gives you permission to perform operations in system partition....etc. Of course it's possible to induce such behavior if you use some let us call them "dangerous" applications that requires superuser's permission, but su-application doesn't do anything by itself.
I also use this rom XWLA4 with my regional CSC. My device is rooted and have never experienced such issues (I own it since october 2011).
Thanks for the info, so I think more and more that this could be a hardware issue.
I am kind of preparing of giving it back to samsung to exchange it, this is the real reason I removed root and root apps.
I am just not really sure if this is a software or hardware issue, so this is why i posted.
I completely understand. To unroot, restore stock fw and send it to service is the best u can do in such situation.
I've done it now, but it did not happen, since I unrooted it and did a factory reset.
Lets see if it will happen again (then I will send it in) and how long I can survive without root.

i was also facing similar kind of issue, I've done factory reset and cleared the cache. now i am not facing that problem..
IMO sending it to the service center should be a last ditch effort.. Coz those guys take so much time plus they always go after the motherboard... I have a feeling its the cache issue or battery calibration issue. Coz even i faced the prob and like mj.vikram suggested - I did a wipe cache and calibrated battery and it seems to have worked.
Cheers.
Factory Reset and Cache Clear did not work, so i've given it to the service center. They've exchange a part of the motherboard, I did not have any reboots since.
If I get reboots again I will write here.

[Q] Random reboots after 4.2.2 official update

Hello, after installing official 4.2.2 update (not ROM's or something, just while on Wi-Fi in phone poppen up window about upgrading my android version) and a day later it started randomly rebooting. It doesn't matter what you are doing (playing something, keeping locked screen, or charging) it still reboots around once in 2 hours or so. I tried hard reset or just wipe the cache but that doesn't solve the problem, but after doing hard reset for a day or so there are not so many reboots (maybe coincidence, i don't know).
I tought of downgrading to 4.1.1, but i'm a bit scared of doing that since my warranty is still valid. I tried bringing phone to warranty but all they did was hard reset and that's all.

downgrading to your country's firmware is okay
won't lose your warranty

I know about that, but what I am afraid of is bricking it while downgrading.

Downgrading cant hard brick your phone just soft brick. And soft bricks can be undone.

I am bumping this thread because I am experiencing the same problem. My phone reboots if it is running a task while my screen is off. When I am downloading a big file and I turn off my screen for example, the phone just turns off.
if all they did for you was hard resetting your phone so why do you care about warranty?

Please help, stuck in Bootloop !!

Recently I unlocked bootloader, installed twrp and succesfully rooted my device, but while I was tinkering with my device I accidentally wipe all data, partition, etc in TWRP now I guess I wiped out everything including OS !!!
How can I restore ? Do I need to flash new hammerhead image ?
Right now I'm following this tutorial
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2513701
It'll be great if anyone of you can point me right way.
You can just flash any custom rom using this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2575150
Or
Follow the thread you posted to restore a factory image..
But restoring a factory image will unroot your device..
You have twrp so the first thing you did was make a nandroid, right? Live and learn.
Thanks for the help, I just flashed new image. Everything works good except wifi, random drops + slow speed.
I contacted google for replacement and they send me RMA form. Unrooted the phone, bootlocker locked + flag reset.

Before rooting wifi problem was rarely occur now after rooting problem arise more frequently, now even after unrooting wifi is super slow sometimes not even connecting. I hate RMAing but seems like no other way.

Awesome advice. I made a nandroid of my N5 first thing after getting all my apps straight. Playing with flashing a rom in TWRP I did a manual "wipe data" which proceded to wipe out the entire SDCARD in the process including my nandroid. Sooooo.... Yes, make a nandroid but also back it up to your computer or dropbox right away.

Don't RMA it, there's nothing wrong with the hardware. All you have to do is reflash the factory image. If you didn't know what you were doing, you shouldn't have been messing around with your phone in the first place. Reflash your phone back to its factory state and next time do your homework before you start tinkering. People like you are going to cause Google to change their return policy so that returns are much more heavily scrutinized.

You know how to read right ? also I did reflashed to stock image and unrooted + locked bootloader but problem persists, what do you propose I do now ? I started loving my phone now I'm getting new one, it's hard for me too, it's like adopting a son.

[Q] does stock rooted device supposed to say "custom" upon boot?

does stock rooted device supposed to say "custom" upon boot? it has an unlocked lock logo. I rarely reboot the phone so I don't know the answer. there was a fast food app(1) that it wouldn't let me make a online order due to it detecting the phone not being fully stock rom so I uninstalled the app. its no big deal but am wondering if this has something to do with a counter that I could reset. I have no idea what I'm talking about as its been a long time since this was done but I remember something about people resetting the counter in certain situations.

I suspect it is showing Custom because you are rooted.
TriangleAway is the app that resets the counter. I don't know if that changes the Custom back to whatever it was.

As mentioned by dawgdoc you can reset the counter. I have a VZW S3 with an unlocked bootloader but it does not have any type of lock that shows up during the initial boot
Sent from my N5
I also have vzn. I'll have to read up on the triangleaway and report back. Thx
Well, i checked in download mode and it said official binary and with Triangleaway confirming and saying counter is 0. I shutdown phone and booted it w/o custom logo and just rebooting phone and it didnt show custom logo which is great. I then tried the latest version of the fast food app that detected a non fully stock rom i had in years past and it seems an online order would go thru! It must be random as i didnt do anything and will consider this resolved. Thx.
