Any good apps for locking you phone down from kids???
Sometimes I forget to screen lock my phone.
On the weekends my kids take my phone when I am sleeping to play games and they sneak it back on the charger before i wake up, then when we go out my phone dies and I am like @#$% it was charging I look at battery meter and they had it for 3 hours playing games.
Also anything for locking down folders and files.
Maby some kind of parental controls. LOL
Under "Settings->Location & Security->Set up screen lock" you can turn on a pattern, PIN, or password lock for your phone. You can also turn it off easily if you want.

so i just recently saw that the android market got rid of any apps that download mp3 music but didnt google let people post any kind of app? or are they following there rivals evil ways (apple) of restricting certain apps?
Most likely influence from carriers are recording companies.

They let you post any kind of app to the market. They just don't promise that it will stay there. They will kick out apps that can get them in legal trouble.
Google is not Apple, because Android will let you install off-market apps out of the box. The option is right there in the stock settings menu. iOS will only let you shop at the competition if you're willing to jailbreak and void your warranty.

If you're phone is rooted you can try AdFree: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...DEsImNvbS5iaWd0aW5jYW4uYW5kcm9pZC5hZGZyZWUiXQ..
This is by far the most effective adblocking app.
I use AdAway from the Play Store, does the job for me. Any ad blocker will do though, as long as you're rooted.
Also, if the app doesn't require the Internet then you can turn the data connection off when using it. I used to do that with Angry Birds before I rooted my phone.

use adaway.. it's simple and very user friendly.. Ads also annoy me, we share the same prob.. so glad if it could help you out..
Are these apps for free? I want to remove the annoying ads as well.
The ads are there to support developer.
If you really want to remove them, the easiest way is to use your phone offline whenever you are using the add supported app

well, both apps require a rooted device. my tablet is not rooted yet, and I haven't even think of rooting it

yes, I know those ads are there to support the developers.
but, if I use my tablet offline, there's not much that I can do with it since a lot of apps require data plan to run

Use a firewall (e.g. Droidwall), set filtering to "whitelist" and only allow those applications that really must have internet access. That will not only block ads but also prevent apps from phoning home other sensitive data. Of course, you need a rooted device for this.

Hmm, it looks like the ad removing apps are gone from the play store (which I guess I understand from googles point of view - they probably get a few pennies for these ads also).. Is there another place to get these? Amazon app store has "ad-blocker pro", but the 3 reviews all say it doesn't work..
Is there non-store place for some of these.. We can load a rom yet with ads removed for the LG Motion 4G, but removing the ads would be good enough for me

Ah indeed.. Apparently I'm too much of a newbie to allowed to post links, but google "pcmag" and "ad-block" and I guess you'll see the article.. I do see that the apps are available on f-droid (which is an open source apps store that I can't post a link to either - google is usually your friend here)...

You can try to download and use Lucky Patcher, very usefull app. It can help you.
You can download Adblock plus from their official website because google has pulled these adblocking apps from play store or you can use the lucky patcher if you have a rooted device. Hope it helps!

For AdAway, check F-Droid. AdFree can be found at the Adfree Android Homepage.
As both work using a modified /etc/hosts file, one could also manipulate that manually. But that would be quite a hazzle :silly:
I remember there was one app that worked by disabling the ad modules themselves -- which would be much more interesting to me. I just cannot figure out which app that was. Any hints?

Also alot of other good suggestions here. Adaway jusy bugs the **** out of my phone though (Desire HD JTime R8).
If you just want a file host http://adf*ly/703YZ just copy and save as on notepad with name host. Then copy to your sdcard and copy again to /system/etc

root device and install adfree
Shake Me Lock Me, locks the phone via shaking.
Lock your phone just with a shake.
No need to press the power button to lock the screen.
With this application when you shake the phone, screen will be off and keys will be locked.
Application notifies you with a vibration whenever it's locked by shaking.

Would love to feature this in my new weekly Best Useful Apps for Android video on YouTube for my audience, but before that happens, i think this needs to be on the playstore. Any reason why it's not? Hey does anyone know why I have advertisements popping up on my phone all the time?
It's random and occurs in all apps and I checked for virus with a scanner and it doesn't say anything. Has anyone had this issue before and know a solution? Idk what I clicked that might have caused this bug. Ads usually are games that lead me to the play store and not anything explicit (if that helps)

Start in safe mode see if they still show up
If it is in games, if you're rooted try downloading an ad blocker. Since they blocked it from the Play Store you will need to Google it.

Still safe mode will disable all third party apps and any potential malware on your phone
think of it as a fail safe boot like how Windows has it

This is odd. Have you downloaded something from outside the play store? Do you have unknown sources enabled? If you didn't, then something is horribly wrong here. If you did download and install any APK, delete it.
If this is something from the Play Store itself, we have to report it.
To be completely safe, as others said, run the phone in safe mode. If they still pop up, flash the factory image...something went wrong. If they don't, it's an app.

There is also another trick that I found some days ago.....restart the phone and then let the google logo go, when the boot animation starts keep pressing the volume down button untill u get to the lock screen....ur safe mode should be there

Please take a screenshot of such an ad to help us see what the problem might be. Also have a look at installed apps to see which one may be causing it.(preferably list all 3rd party apps you have installed, or simply a couple of screenshots)
Also as mentioned you should try safe mode(long press the "turn off" button in the power menu), to see if it still happens.(if not, it is one of your 3rd party apps.)
You could try and use a nifty app from the Play store called AirPush detector. It will look through your phone to look through which apps might be showing you unwanted advertisements.

It was definitely an app that you installed, there are some apps in the playstore that if you install them will show ads. This is sketchy but I guess they want to make money somehow....

Popup ads? I understand ads in the game, but I've never seen ads that pop up in system apps. That's not allowed per the google play TOS. I'll be sure to report them if you give me the names of them. I have apps on there too, and most of them don't have ads, but the ones that do are always unobtrusive.

Oh I can't remember what app it was it was on my nexus 4, I installed something and everytime I would hit home it would popup like a sys warning message but it would be an ad.
I would run a virus/malware scan and stop using questionable apps.

This. People keep complaining about Android having viruses when they're downloading all kinds of things like "free smileys" from random sites. 99.9% of the time, Google Play has clean apps, but there are still some apps that Google needs to filter out better. They need to completely ban air push and other notification ads or really anything that doesn't stay within the app.
EDIT: This wasn't meant to bash the OP. I'm talking about other people, and hopefully the OP didn't download this kind of stuff.

yea. these apps open in the background. and since they are "open", their ads pop up. these arent the same kinds of ads that open in the app itself, theyll open in the status bar or just pop up. again, they are usually included in free apps/games that are usually of lower quality.

Wow. That's dumb. Oh well, I would never download any of those shady apps anyway, and neither would most people, but I still wish Google would have a bit more strict guidelines.
